Meanwhile, in a factory on planet Quartu, Chairman Alonzo Drek oversees the construction of a mechanical army built by Dr. Nefarious, an evil scientist who was previously defeated by the Rangers and was presumed dead. However, a defective warbot manages to escape using a stolen ship. After the ship crashes on Veldin, Ratchet rescues the defect, who explains that he needs to warn the Galactic Rangers of Drek's plans.

With his confidence restored, Ratchet rejoins the Rangers and heads to planet Kalebo III, where he retrieves a Holo-Guise after winning a race championship. Using the Holo-guise, Ratchet disguises as Qwark and infiltrates the Deplanetizer. The plan is to remove the gravity stabilizer used to hold the Deplanetizer over its target, so that the Rangers can use high-powered magnets to drag it away from Umbris and prevent the planet's destruction. An increasingly disillusioned Qwark confronts Drek for breaking his promise not to attack the Rangers any further.

This was part of his plan to destroy the Solana Galaxy under the Rangers' watch for they would be the ones to be blamed. He turns Drek into a sheep by using the Sheepinator, one of his personal favorite weapons, and taking control of the Deplanetizer. Doctor Nefarious also created the RYNO (Rip You a New One), the most powerful weapon in the series, which causes him to be struck by an energy blast when Ratchet hits him near the end of the film where he plummets to his death.
Following the discovery of key defects in one of his bogus Gadgetron products, the Personal Hygenator, Qwark was revealed to be a fraud and a disgrace to Solana for previously working with Drek. Due to his illegal sales of his product, the galactic court ordered Qwark to pay 6 billion bolts to those of suffering Personal Hygenator Syndrome. Qwark refused to pay for the damages and he was eventually arrested two days later trying to flee to Pokitaru and placed in prison awaiting his trial. After escaping from prison by during the events of the second game, Qwark hasn't been seen for six weeks and re-adopted his alias as Steve McQwark before continuing to sell more of his Personal Hygenator which he used to finance his comeback.
