Kilmacrennan has a soccer club called Kilmacrennan Celtic, founded in 1977 and formerly known as Lurgy Celtic. They have a senior and reserve team in the Donegal League and also have underage teams from u-8 level to u-18 level.

Kilmacrennan lies on the N56 10 km northwest of Letterkenny, which is the largest town in County Donegal. The village's name 'Cill Mhic nÉanáin' means 'the church of the sons of Éanán'. Two rivers flow through the village, the Lennon and the Lurgy. Traditionally, the river Lennon was renowned for salmon fishing; however, the salmon numbers have dropped dramatically in recent years.

Daniel McIvor (14 February 1871 - 2 September 1965) was a Liberal party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in Lurgy, County Tyrone, Ireland. He was the father of Canadian aviator Dan McIvor. McIvor graduated from Manitoba College in 1905 and became a Presbyterian then United Church of Canada minister. McIvor married Gertrude Margaret BissettManitoba BMD Registration Number: 1908,003982 (30 December 1908).

In earlier times the townland was probably uninhabited as it consists mainly of bog and poor clay soils. It was not seized by the English during the Plantation of Ulster in 1610 or in the Cromwellian Settlement of the 1660s so some dispossessed Irish families moved there and began to clear and farm the land. The 1790 Cavan Carvaghs list spells the name as Lorga. A map of the townland drawn in 1813 is in the National Archives of Ireland, Beresford Estate Maps, depicts the townland as Garworragh, Gorworragh and Lurgy.

While being treated by ambulance workers, Williams is said to have "lashed out" at those helping him. The ambulance staff filed an incident report, but did not recommend further action. Williams' wife Jane (a registered nurse) said her husband was suffering from "Chinese lurgy" after having just arrived back from an exhausting 10-day trip to Korea and China as a guest of both those governments. She described the incident as an unconscious reaction of Williams as the medics treated him, and expressed surprise that the media had been told of it even though it should have been covered by patient confidentiality.

At Christmas, Harry invites Luna on a platonic date to the party hosted by Horace Slughorn. Despite wearing a spangled silvery dress, she looks quite nice, Harry notices, and her conversation about the Rotfang conspiracy (wherein the Aurors are allegedly attempting to bring down the Ministry via a combination of Dark Magic and gum disease) has Harry coughing into his drink with laughter. Luna also does the Quidditch commentary for Gryffindor's game against Hufflepuff, during which she says little about the play – talking instead about "interestingly-shaped clouds" above the stadium and how nice Ginny is and referring to one of the Hufflepuff players as suffering from "Loser's Lurgy". Minerva McGonagall does not quite know what to do with her, but some fans find her commentary highly amusing.
