Since it is often uttered by service employees to customers at the end of a transaction, particularly in Israel and the United States, its repetitious and dutiful usage has resulted in the phrase developing, according to some journalists and scholars, especially outside of these two countries, a cultural connotation of impersonality, lack of interest, passive–aggressive behavior, or sarcasm. The phrase is generally not used in Europe, as some find it artificial or even offensive. Critics of the phrase characterize it as an imperative, obliging the person to have a nice day.

Inspired by its success, the band thought of making a country-influenced Bon Jovi album in Nashville. Jon contacted L.A. Reid from Island and told him about the idea and through the conversation he realized the downside of making that kind of album, but he still wanted to do it because he wanted to express his artistic freedom. However, the day before the exhibition was to start, organizers noticed that his piece entitled "Revolting Brick" had been stolen and replaced with a fake brick. The fake brick held the words "Thank You Have a Nice Day, Next" and was part of a set of 500 that was given away at the exhibition. "Revolting Brick" was number eight in a series of ten that Turk had created and signed.

The Comic Strip Presents... debuted on 2 November 1982, the opening night of Channel 4. Each episode was prefixed by an animated lead-in consisting of the words "The Comic Strip Presents" accompanied by a soundtrack consisting of a drum machine and a Farfisa organ rendition of "Quando quando quando", together with a bomb labelled "Have a nice day", falling towards a map. J. Broad wrote in his 2007 book Some Day Never Comes that the phrase causes people to feel they have an obligation to have a nice day. Mike Royko wrote in his 2002 book For the Love of Mike that people may have a bad day, not a nice one, because they "confront a demanding boss, a nasty customer, a crabby teacher". According to author John Tschohl, the tediousness of the phrase is exemplified by employees uttering the words so faintly as to be barely audible. "Anyone" is a song by Swedish pop music duo Roxette, released on 10 May 1999 as the second single from their sixth studio album, Have a Nice Day. Composed by Per Gessle, the song was inspired by the work of Burt Bacharach and Phil Spector, and the album version of the song was mostly performed in a single take at Atlantis Recording Studio in Stockholm. In Japan, the single was released as a double a-side with "Pay the Price", although no music video was created for that song. The music video for "Anyone" was directed by Jonas Åkerlund and proved controversial upon release.

In late 2000, she got her first job as an editorial assistant job at HarperCollins, where she worked behind-the-scenes with two senior editors on several books, including Have a Nice Day! From 2001 until 2002, she was an assistant editor at Crown Publishers There, she created and edited several books, including The Luxe. Rights to the pre-1989 WCCW tape library belong to WWE (the post-1988 rights are owned by International World Class Championship Wrestling) and select episodes from 1982 to 1988 are available on the WWE Network. World Class Championship Wrestling experienced tremendous success from 1981-1985, shattering attendance records and achieving global exposure through their syndicated television program.

The Change is the first English language solo album by Roxette vocalist Marie Fredriksson; she had previously released five Swedish solo albums between 1984 and 1996, and seven albums as part of pop duo Roxette between 1986 and 2001. Plans for her debut English solo album had been underway since the mid-1990s. "Bad Moon" is the oldest song on the record; it dates back to 1996, and was first recorded during early sessions for Roxette's sixth studio album Have a Nice Day, which was released in 1999. On 11 September 2002, Fredriksson had an epileptic seizure and collapsed in her bathroom, with the impact of the fall fracturing her skull.

Shante's "Have a Nice Day" had aimed some barbs at the principal two members of a new group from the Bronx called Boogie Down Productions (BDP): "Now KRS-ONE you should go on vacation with that name soundin' like a wack radio station, and as for Scott La Rock, you should be ashamed, when T La Rock said "It's Yours", he didn't mean his name". Three official Hell in a Cell matches transpiring in the summer of 1998 made this particular four-way feud unique, as well as the WWF championship title changing hands within its confines. From the world of business and finance came new terms (merger, downsize, bottom line), from sports and gambling terminology came, specific jargon aside, common everyday American idioms, including many idioms related to baseball. The names of some American inventions remained largely confined to North America (elevator, gasoline) as did certain automotive terms (truck, trunk). New foreign loanwords came with 19th and early 20th century European immigration to the U.S.; notably, from Yiddish (chutzpah, schmooze) and German (hamburger, wiener). A large number of English colloquialisms from various periods are American in origin; some have lost their American flavor (from OK and cool to nerd and 24/7), while others have not (have a nice day, for sure); many are now distinctly old-fashioned (swell, groovy).

Though there is no visible time limit, a number of pre-scripted events require players to act quickly in order to reach the next sequence. Have A Nice Day: A Tale of Blood and Sweat socks (p.2) This was in reference to how poorly Foley thought he was booked during his WCW career when Flair was on the booking committee. Flair responded in his autobiography by writing: "I do not care how many thumbtacks Mick Foley has fallen on, how many ladders he's fallen off, how many continents he's supposedly bled on, he will always be known as a glorified stuntman". They had an altercation in 2004 in Huntsville, and in 2006 they worked a program where Flair took part in some of the bloodiest and most violent matches of his career, particularly at SummerSlam 2006, in an "I Quit" match which had spots involving barbed wire and thumbtacks—trademark weapons from Foley's days as Cactus Jack.

Eaton is often regarded as one of the nicest people in the wrestling business, even though he wrestled as a heel for a majority of his career. In his 1999 book Have a Nice Day, Mick Foley praised Eaton as being one of the most underrated superstars in the business, and its nicest, commenting that "it was damn near impossible to pay for anything with Bobby around, though I will confess to not trying that hard". His generosity was not limited to picking up tabs, either: Jim Cornette and Sean Waltman have noted that Eaton would regularly travel with an extra suitcase filled with toiletries, socks, and other oft-forgotten items that he would give to anyone who needed them. The original album was not released in the United States. However, it was released in Canada, where it peaked at number forty and was certified gold by Music Canada – then the Canadian Recording Industry Association – in 1996 for shipments in excess of 50,000 units. It was finally issued in the US in 2000, with an amended track listing: all of the new songs, aside from "You Don't Understand Me", were cut, along with the singles which were never released in the US (namely "The Big L." and "Vulnerable"). Like the demos created by Gessle, Fredriksson's recordings contained an elaborate level of production, incorporating live instrumentation such as piano, keyboards, drums, electronic organs and various brass instruments—namely tenor saxophones, trumpets, flugelhorns and trombones. Several of her demos have since been officially released: "New World" and "Myth" appeared as bonus tracks on the 2009 reissue of Have a Nice Day, and "All I Ever Wanted" featured among the bonus content on the reissue of their next studio album, Room Service (2001). A re-recorded Swedish version of "Always the Last to Know" (retitled "Det som var nu" and featuring Patrik Isaksson), was released as a single from her greatest hits compilation, Äntligen – Marie Fredrikssons bästa 1984–2000. In response to this, the Outlaws locked Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie in a dumpster and threw it off the entrance ramp on to the concrete floor. Although his general move-set stayed the same save for one or two moves that were used by each character, Foley would have different motions and even different catchphrases for each character (Cactus Jack: "Bang Bang!", Mankind: "Have a Nice Day!", Dude Love: "Owwww, Have Mercy!"). When developing the Mankind character he would spend whole nights under the wrestling ring or in that week's arena's boiler room. In addition, as he had been in his previous days in different wrestling circuits, Foley, the "Hardcore Legend" was often involved in the Attitude Era's most violent and dangerous matches, including hardcore matches that took place outside the ring and matches that sometimes even involved sharp objects such as barbed wire, thumbtacks, broken glass and also various blunt objects- and most of Foley’s matches included at least one dangerous bump.

Cliff are the only producers credited on Good Karma who had not appeared on previous Roxette albums: Clarence Öfwerman produced all of their albums since 1986, while Christoffer Lundquist had been involved with the group since 1999's Have a Nice Day, co-producing their two previous studio albums, 2011's Charm School and 2012's Travelling. Gessle said he wanted Good Karma to sound like a modern pop album, albeit one that "leaned towards the classic Roxette tradition," elaborating: "We wanted to combine our classic Roxette sound with a modern and slightly unpredictable production to create a soundscape where you would both recognise our sound and find something new." One of hip hop's most important producers and innovators, Marley Marl found Cold Chillin' Records and assembled various hip hop acts, including MC Shan, Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie, Roxanne Shanté, Kool G Rap & DJ Polo, and Masta Ace. His Juice Crew collective was an important force in ushering the "golden age" era of hip hop, with advances in lyrical technique, distinctive personalities of emerging stars like Biz Markie and Big Daddy Kane, and attaining crossover commercial success for hip hop music. Marley Marl's first production was an "answer record" to "Sucker MCs" in 1983 entitled "Sucker DJs" by Dimples D. Soon after came 14-year-old Roxanne Shanté's answer to UTFO's "Roxanne Roxanne", "Roxanne's Revenge" (1985), sparking off the huge wave of answer records known as the Roxanne Wars. More disses (insults intended to show disrespect) from Shanté followed: "Bite This" (1985), "Queen of Rox" (1985), introducing Biz Markie on "Def Fresh Crew" (1986), "Payback" (1987), and perhaps her greatest record, "Have a Nice Day" (1987).

As a result of the Monday Night Wars, professional wrestling became a prime-time tradition on Monday nights in America. It also lessened the prevalence of squash matches (where star wrestlers would defeat jobbers) on television, as both companies were compelled to show competitive, pay-per-view quality matches on a weekly basis in an effort to increase ratings. The Monday Night Wars resulted in the creation of millions of new wrestling viewers. Consequently, the late 1990s are commonly referred to as professional wrestling's most recent boom period. Stars such as Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Bill Goldberg and Sting became household names, and some attempted to parlay their newfound fame into other mediums and found success in them, much like Hulk Hogan of the 1980s and early 1990s: notable examples being Mick Foley, who became a New York Times best selling author with the first volume of his autobiography, Have a Nice Day, and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who branched out to become one of the highest grossing actors of all time.

Also, Japanese listeners have interpreted the lyrics, "Dansa med oss, klappa era händer" ("Dance with us, clap your hands"), as "Barusamiko-su Yappa irahen de" ("(I) don't want any Balsamic vinegar after all" in the Kansai dialect). Thus, the song has a different interpretation in Japan than in Sweden. In April 2008, Japanese music distributor Quake Inc. gained the rights from the original Caramell producers, Remixed Records, to distribute the sped-up version of the original song in Asia, releasing first an album which included Caramelldansen and other popular meme songs at the time, this follows up an album sung by Toromi, the voice actor who played Mii in Popotan who sang her own version of the song, and follows a single and an album dedicated to the Swedish band. On May 25, 2008, Caramelldansen achieved number one in the international music chart in Japan for two weeks, and on June 2 managed to obtain number sixteen in the Japanese combined chart, beating Bon Jovi with their song "Have a Nice Day" the last one who entered that chart three years ago.

The record was a commercial success in the Asian and European markets, debuting at number one in the UK and spending four consecutive weeks at the top. In Japan, the album topped the Oricon chart with first week sales of 379,000 copies, becoming the second fastest selling international album in chart's history. Its lead single "This Ain't a Love Song" reached number 14 in the US and number six in the UK. Crush (2000) became the band's sixth and fifth consecutive number one album in Australia and the United Kingdom, respectively, and reached 2× Platinum in the US. The success of the album was largely due to its lead single "It's My Life" which was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group, while the album was nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2001 ceremony. Bounce (2002) and Have a Nice Day (2005) debuted at number two on the Billboard 200, Bon Jovi's highest debuts in the band's 20-year history up to that point.

In his memoir Have a Nice Day: A Tale of Blood and Sweatsocks, Foley called it both the best and worst chokeslam he ever took, saying that despite its looks, he would have likely died if he had landed properly. He also cited the fact that the ring onto which he landed had a harder surface than that of modern rings, which stopped his momentum once he landed. Foley would later explain that the roof of the cell was supposed to sag sufficiently so that Undertaker could kick him through, allowing him to dangle by his feet and eventually fall in a rotation to land on his front. Years later, The Undertaker would note that just before executing the chokeslam, he had been standing with his left foot on the same panel that Foley fell through, but at the last second decided to instead place it on the support bar the panel was attached to so that he would have more stability for lifting Foley; had he not done that, he would have fallen through and probably landed at least partially on Foley, thus potentially injuring Foley (and himself) far worse.
