The Japanese pirates (wokou, also known as wako or kaizoku) in the 16th century were reported to have used the bo hiya which had the appearance of a large arrow.

The satirical hiya or hichá ridiculed enemies, although this form is much more prominent in Arabic poetry. In the Creek and Seminole traditions the Meko or "king" [Chief] is the primary ceremonial authority. The name Jiabong is a combination of the terms “Hiya-an” which means a “place of preparation before an attack” and “bong” which is actually “the sound of a canon gun”. According to the legend, during Spanish time, villagers from Motiong, Paranas and San Sebastian fled to Casandig (now Jiabong) to seek refuge from the invading pirates who killed, robbed and held them as captives. To rescue the villagers, the Spanish soldiers and guardia civil camped at Casandig and mounted their preparations for an eventual pirate attack. The Spanish soldiers cried “Ensiqueda Fuego, Hia-bong!” as cannons were fired on the invaders.

Based on studies, surveys, opinions, anecdotes, and other literatures made by experts and researchers in relation to Filipino social values or Filipino core values, along with the Filipino character or Filipino identity of a person or an individual known as the Filipino, the Filipino value system are found to possess inherent key elements. One can note how Hiya (propriety/dignity), Pakikisama(companionship/esteem), and Utang na loob(gratitude/solidarity), are merely Surface Values—readily seen and observed values exhibited and esteemed by many Filipinos. These three values are considered branches from a single origin—the actual Core Value of the Filipino Personality—Kapwa. It means 'togetherness', and refers to community, or not doing things alone.

Station Theatre The Station Theatre is a small amateur dramatics theatre located in the village of West Town, Hayling Island, Hampshire, England which is run for the people of Hayling Island and surrounding areas. The theatre was converted from the derelict railway goods shed into a 144-seat theatre by Hayling Island Amateur Dramatic Society (HIADS). The theatre is run entirely by volunteer members from the non-profit making Hayling Island Amateur Dramatic Society who put on around six shows a year, including a pantomime, and one show performed by HIYA an affiliated group of young actors. The theatre also hosts both professional and amateur visiting groups from on and off the island.

Kirya (an ancient Hebrew nickname for Jerusalem) was Ofra Haza's 1992 follow- up to the internationally successful Shaday (1988) and Desert Wind (1989). They were 1982 UPA U.S. National Champions, earning the right to represent the U.S.A. at the first ever Ultimate World Championships in 1983, in Goteborg, Sweden, which they won.
