Fred Garms was looking to sell the wheel by 1983, as he was getting older and unable to manage the wheel. At the time, Deno D. Vourderis had been interested in buying the wheel whenever Garms was willing to sell. At the time, Vourderis was in a hospital recovering from a stabbing attack, but Garms approached Deno's son Dennis on the possibility of purchasing the ride. On June 7, 1983, Vourderis bought the Wonder Wheel from Garms and his cousin Walter Kerner Sr., and it became "Deno's Wonder Wheel".

To help with the Wonder Wheel's upkeep, the Garms family lived under the Wonder Wheel during the summers. By the 1960s, Herman Garms's son Alfred "Fred" Garms took over operation of the Wonder Wheel. Coney Island started to decline during the mid-20th century, and by 1964, it had seen its lowest number of visitors in 25 years. Despite subsequent failed attempts to redevelop the area as a casino area or theme park, the Wonder Wheel continued to operate.

She was sunk by a direct hit from Luftwaffe bombers while anchored near her sister ship at their Sognefjord base of Bjordal on 26 April. Five German bombers attacked the two destroyers and one of the around thirty bombs dropped hit Garm right behind the front funnel, detonating two of her torpedoes and some other ammunition. The ship was almost broken in half by the explosion and burned for hours before sinking. All members of the crew had abandoned ship when the attack came as she had no effective anti-aircraft weapons to defend herself with, hence no casualties were endured during Garms sinking.

During the German attack on Bergen Garm intercepted the last ship of the enemy flotilla, the cruiser , and tried to carry out a torpedo attack. This failed due to the distance between the two ships being to great for a quick surprise attack by the tiny Norwegian destroyer. As Garms commander, Captain Sigurd Skjolden, attempted to close to torpedo range of the cruiser (the distance between the ships was about and the torpedoes were pre-set for range) Königsberg opened fire and straddled the Norwegian ship with 15 cm shells. After a number of near misses from the German guns Garm broke off her attack and fled to the north, pursued by Luftwaffe bombers.

The Tivoli Theatre was originally built as Adams Bakery in 1917 and boasted having the finest gourmet cakes in Queensland. It was later used by the State Library of Queensland to store rare books, but with Expo 88 in the city, a new owner, Ann Garms, who transformed it into The Tivoli Restaurant and Theatre - modeled on the Paradis Latin in Paris (1803) one of France's most famous cabaret theatres. In August 1989, the venue opened with Putting on the Ritz, a show celebrating the Golden Age of Hollywood and featuring hits from composers George Gershwin, Irving Berlin and Cole Porter. 2017 marked the building's 100-year anniversary, and in that year, the Brisbane Festival partnered with The Tivoli, offering a program of local and international work.

The Wonder Wheel is a eccentric Ferris wheel located at Deno's Wonder Wheel Amusement Park in Coney Island in New York City. The wheel is located on a plot bounded by West 12th Street to the west, Bowery Street to the north, Luna Park to the east, and the Riegelmann Boardwalk to the south. As with other eccentric Ferris wheels, some of the Wonder Wheel's passenger cabins are not fixed directly to the rim of the wheel, but instead slide along winding sets of rails between the hub and the rim. Built in 1920 as one of several Ferris wheels on Coney Island, the Wonder Wheel was designed by Charles Hermann and operated by Herman J. Garms Sr. for six decades.
