Advertisers can use doublespeak to mask their commercial intent from users, as users' defenses against advertising become more entrenched. Some are attempting to counter this technique with a number of systems offering diverse views and information to highlight the manipulative and dishonest methods that advertisers employ. According to Jacques Ellul, "the aim is not to even modify people’s ideas on a given subject, rather, it is to achieve conformity in the way that people act." He demonstrates this view by offering an example from drug advertising.

Clean comedy is a comedy genre that is generally free of ribaldry: racism, rape jokes, pejoratives, profanity, obscenity, incest, illicit drugs, off- color humor, toilet humor, explicitly sexual content, and similarly objectionable material. Comedians may try to circumvent clean-comedy restrictions by using innuendos, euphemisms, doublespeak, double entendres, and gender-neutral language. Clean comedy is not necessarily unprovocative. Clean comedy is considered by some to be a higher form of comedy than bits that rely on the shock of profanity or sexual content to elicit laughs.

She ran as a candidate for the Australian Democrats in Western Australian and Australian elections during the period 1989-1993. She wrote a 20-page illustrated booklet entitled Uranium mining in Western Australia : exploration doublespeak which was published by Goldfields Against Serious Pollution in Kalgoorlie in 1989. In 1995 she was awarded the Bessie Rischbieth Conservation Award from the Conservation Council of Western Australia for her contribution to environmental conservation in Western Australia.

However some Islamists see the party as having lost an opportunity to reverse the "social framework" of secularism in the country. The party is generally described as socially centrist with mild support for economic liberalism and has been compared to European Christian democrats. However, liberals accuse its leaders of "doublespeak" in this regard.

Doublespeak is a term sometimes used for deliberate euphemistic misuse of words to distort or reverse their meaning, as in a "Ministry of Peace" which wages war, and a "Ministry of Love" which imprisons and tortures. It is a portmanteau of the terms Newspeak and doublethink, which originate from George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. The word euphemism itself can be used as a euphemism. In the animated TV special Halloween Is Grinch Night (see Dr. Seuss), a child asks to go to the euphemism, where euphemism is being used as a euphemism for outhouse.

On February 7, 2019, The Globe and Mail published an article that spurred investigation into the SNC-Lavalin Affair. The article claimed that the Prime Minister's Office had pressured Jody Wilson-Raybould while she was Attorney General of Canada into pursuing a deferred prosecution agreement for SNC Lavalin. The article also claimed that Wernick had rebuked Wilson- Raybould for having suggested that politicians had engaged in doublespeak on Indigenous issues. Wilson-Raybould resigned her current post as Minister of Veterans Affairs on February 12, 2019. On February 21, 2019, Wernick appeared before the House of Commons Justice Committee.

Terrence P. Moran of the US National Council of Teachers of English has compared the use of doublespeak in the mass media to a set of laboratory experiments conducted on rats. In the experiment, a sample of rats was first deprived of food, before one group was fed sugar and water and the other group a saccharin solution. Both groups exhibited behavior indicating that their hunger was satisfied, but rats in the second group (which were fed saccharin solution) died of malnutrition. Moran parallels doublespeak's effects on the social masses to the second group of rats upon whom an illusionary effect was created.

The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Committee on Public Doublespeak was formed in 1971, in the midst of the Watergate scandal. It was at a point when there was widespread skepticism about the degree of truth which characterized relationships between the public and the worlds of politics, the military, and business. NCTE passed two resolutions. One called for the Council to find means to study dishonest and inhumane uses of language and literature by advertisers, to bring offenses to public attention, and to propose classroom techniques for preparing children to cope with commercial propaganda.

In 1997, an article in the New York Times characterized the New CAN as an affiliate of the Church of Scientology, stating: "now it's in the hands of a Scientologist and proselytizes for the church". The New CAN has been accused of giving away the identity of a caller, a concerned mother, to the cult she was inquiring about, which resulted in further damaging the relationship with her daughter. Penn writes in False Dawn that the New Cult Awareness Network is "dominated by Scientologists". In describing what he refers to as the "doublespeak" of the (New) Cult Awareness Network, Tuman states that Scientology and CAN utilize the term "religious freedom" as a hallmark of its defense against critics.

Since 1911, NCTE has provided a forum for the profession, an array of opportunities for teachers to continue their professional growth throughout their careers, and a framework for cooperation to deal with issues that affect the teaching of English." "Orwellian" is an adjective describing a situation, idea, or societal condition that George Orwell identified as being destructive to the welfare of a free and open society. It denotes an attitude and a brutal policy of draconian control by propaganda, surveillance, disinformation, denial of truth (doublethink), and manipulation of the past, including the "unperson"—a person whose past existence is expunged from the public record and memory, practiced by modern repressive governments. Often, this includes the circumstances depicted in his novels, particularly Nineteen Eighty-Four but political doublespeak is criticized throughout his work, such as in Politics and the English Language. The New York Times has said the term is "the most widely used adjective derived from the name of a modern writer".

The opening of the school caused controversy, with some in the Muslim community in Derby opposing the scheme. However a high demand for places at the school was reported when enrolment started in 2012. The idea of a segregated religious school was opposed by the Derby Campaign for Inclusive Education (DCIE) on the grounds that education should be inclusive with children from different backgrounds being educated together so they can make up their own minds as to what to believe as adults. There were also concerns amongst the Muslim community regarding the competency of the founders, doublespeak, political agendas, personal agenda and financial irregularities at a previous charity resulting in a public q&a; meeting organised by the Derby Community Education Forum, which the founders refused to attend.

Heavy rains in the afternoon caused flash floods, affecting Liat Towers and other areas around Orchard Road, Balestier, Cambridge Road, Monk's Hill, Cuscaden Road, Lincoln Road, United Square, Moulmein Road and the junction of Bukit Timah junction and Sixth Avenue. Within hours of the floods, national water agency, Public Utilities Board(PUB), released a media statement stating, > "There was no flooding at Orchard Road. However, water ponded at the open > area of Liat Towers, the underpass between Lucky Plaza and Ngee Ann City, > and the basement of Lucky Plaza due to the sustained heavy downpour". PUB subsequently wrote in to newspaper Today to assert that they were not understating the situation and using doublespeak, after a reader's letter pointed out that it was sad that the agency had to "resort to word usage to dissipate the impact of these floods" when the event was clearly a "flooding" and not "ponding".

On 19 December 2008, nine men were arrested on charges of homosexuality in a private flat in Dakar, allegedly after police received an anonymous tip. One of the arrestees was Diadji Diouf, the owner of the flat and a well-known Senegalese activist who heads AIDES Senegal, which provides HIV / AIDS prevention and treatment services to men who have sex with men. She suggested that the programme stereotyped males and females, portraying girls as "emotional", "want(ing) security" and wanting to "look attractive", while boys "need respect" and "don't want a girlfriend that questions their opinions and argues with their decisions all the time". The programme material also featured lines such as "a guy can’t not want to look" and suggested that girls indulge in doublespeak while boys mean exactly what they say. Focus on the Family Singapore was appointed by the Ministry of Social and Family Development to conduct such modules for junior college students. Focus has since issued an official response, claiming that the content of the workshop was based on material by experts, including Gary Chapman (author of The Five Love Languages) and Jeff and Shaunti Feldhahn (author of For Women Only: What You Need to Know About the Inner Lives of Men) Focus also defended its programmes by pointing out more than 85 per cent of the students polled had rated it as "Very Good/Good" while 89 per cent of students saw he presentation of its facilitators as "Very Good/Good".
