The maypole itself survived until 1547 when a Puritan mob seized and destroyed it as a "pagan idol". May Day celebrations, banned under the Commonwealth, were revived in 1660. In 1644 the Capucines organised a procession. Crossway (the form used by the Ordnance Survey) or Crossways (the form preferred by most residents) is a hamlet near the village of Newcastle in north Monmouthshire, Wales. The route between Monmouth and Redbrook was part of the main road between Monmouth and Coleford. In the early 1970s, Gabe Kaplan, who at that time was an unknown stand-up comedian, repeatedly pestered Barbarino for a job at the Crossway. More equipped high performance and specialist vehicles are used by the forces Traffic Unit and Tactical Firearms Unit (TFU, deployed to more high risk incidents predominantly involving firearms) for use in traffic enforcement, highways policing, and specialist/high risk needs, they include the Volvo V70, Volvo V90, BMW 530D, BMW 330D, BMW X5, Land Rover Defender (armoured variant), Jankel Armored Vehicle and OVIK Crossway Armored Vehicle. Motorcycles also include the BMW R1200RT for traffic enforcement and highways policing and the Yamaha WR450F for off-road policing.

Historically, an armorer is a person who makes personal armor, especially plate armor. In modern terms, an armorer is a member of a military or police force who works in an armory and maintains and repairs small arms and weapons systems, with some duties resembling those of a civilian gunsmith. There is increasing evidence that companies specializing in the manufacture of armored vehicles or applique armor for application onto vehicles of all types (cars, boats, aircraft) are referring to themselves as armorers; such as the UK company OVIK Crossway - which describes its services as Armorers and Coach Builders. In some ways, this is a reversion back to the original meaning of the term insofar as these companies forge, adapt or integrate physical armor onto platforms in order to protect human life.

On August 25, 1917, Joaçaba was established as Cruzeiro, and through its history has also been called Limeira and Cruzeiro do Sul, until federal legislation in 1943 prohibited cities in Brazil from sharing the same name (there is a Limeira in the State of São Paulo). The current name Joaçaba is derived from the Tupi, with the meaning of "crossway." Today, the city is known for its medical center, which brings medical students and patients from all over Santa Catarina, as well as for its university (UNOESC – Universidade do Oeste de Santa Catarina) which attracts students from all over the country. It is also noted for its Carnaval and the high quality of life for its inhabitants, which was ranked 1st for the state of Santa Catarina and 8th for Brazil.

Another graphic novel project in a similar vein was Wenzel and writer Douglas Wheeler's adaptation of some of the Brothers Grimm's fairytales for NBM in 1995. In 1998 Wenzel teamed with acclaimed comics writer Kurt Busiek on The Wizard’s Tale, the story of Evernight, a land ruled by a consortium of evil wizards who discover that one of their kind harbors a "dangerous" glimmer of good. The Wizard’s Tale was designed to be a crossover book that blended children's book elements with the format and readability of a graphic novel. Other notable projects Wenzel has done include Robert L. May's Christmas bestseller Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (Grosset and Dunlap, 2001); Max Lucado's A Hat For Ivan (Crossway Books, 2004); and several books in the Little Bear series which were art-directed by Maurice Sendak (HarperFestival, 2003–2004).

Chalke's views drew much support as well as criticism, with numerous articles, blogs and books being written on both sides of the debate. The continuing controversy led to the Evangelical Alliance organising a symposium in July 2005 to discuss the issue. A record of this symposium includes a chapter by Chalke and his views are also contained in "the atonement debate". A group of three conservative evangelical theologians responded to Chalke with their book, Pierced for our Transgressions (Crossway Publishing, 2007), which strongly criticised Chalke's position as inconsistent with some evangelical confessions of faith. However, N. T. Wright endorsed Chalke and spoke out against the latter book, commenting, for instance, that ‘despite the ringing endorsements of famous men, it [Pierced For Our Transgressions] is deeply, profoundly, and disturbingly unbiblical.’ Both sides of the debate have attempted to claim the higher, and more accurate, view of scripture.

According to legend, she is often equated with Nü Wa, as she has long been worshipped on the same mountain, but actually, Lishan Laomu has her own number of stories. Her disciples and apprentices are legendary female heroes, such as Zhong Wuyan, Fan Lihua, Bai Suzhen, Zhu Yingtai, Mu Guiying, Liu Jinding, these women are heroine era. During the Tang Dynasty, Taoist Li Quan (618-907) a commoner fond of the way of the immortals, who often travelled to spiritual places in the mountains, met with Lishan Laomu at the foot of Lishan Mountain, and Laomu taught him Huangdi Yinfujing (The Yellow Emperor's Scripture on "Unconscious Unification"). The Song dynasty leishu encyclopedia Taiping Yulan quotes a Han dynasty source, the San Qinji (三秦記), and provides a legend about the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang, encountering the goddess at Mount Li. At the time of the First Emperor, there was a crossway of eighty li to Mount Li. People walked over the bridge, carts drove under the bridge.
