Colin Nightingale and Stephen Dobbie's installation, titled "Getting To The Rave", immerses the visitor in the dark and furtive adventure of it all: the petrol stations where would-be ravers would congregate to wait on word; the phone boxes and clunky mobile devices; the designs printed on ecstasy tablets; the walks through unlit surroundings, suddenly opening up into light and music.

But in February, just as Paris Fashion Week began, a group of high-profile models — Jourdan Dunn, Edie Campbell, Leomie Anderson, Candice Swanepoel and Joan Smalls — voiced their support for James Scully, a casting director, who had taken to Instagram to condemn two colleagues, Maida Gregori Boina and Rami Fernandes, for keeping models in an unlit stairwell for several hours.

Matheson reported that she'd quit on the spot after this experiment, which made no sense—they'd used the same Internal Directive on Jenny, during an Intimacy Team Relational Experiment, during which she and Kurt were alone in an unlit room monitored by infrared as they each used small devices to convey to each other, through a sort of Morse code, what level of physical intimacy they each consented to.

The way Jamel Shabazz has the unlit corners of black communities as his primary studio for decades without even a care for what institution is going to honor the work is as important as Deborah Willis having done incredibly powerful work from at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, then at the Smithsonian, and then at NYU, so that she's able to expose those who might not know about black photography to its force and power.

The show is carefully veined with images of incompleteness: a forever unlit cigarette in the mouth of a violinist (George Abud); a clarinet concerto that has never been completed by its composer (Alok Tewari); a public telephone that never rings, guarded by a local (Adam Kantor) waiting for a call from his girlfriend; and a pickup line that's dangled like an unbaited hook by the band's aspiring Lothario (Ari'el Stachel, whose smooth jazz vocals dazzle in the style of his character's idol, Chet Baker).
