Lo Sconosciuto owes this nickname to his second name, "Unknow" (without the final "n", misspelling intentional). He is a disillusioned, former mercenary who tries to forget the wounds of his past, usually without success. This past is only partially shown: as a former member of the Foreign Legion in Algeria and Vietnam, he learnt combat techniques and the use of weapons. After a conscience crisis, he tries to escape the horrors he had experimented searching for jobs all around the world.

Magnus' panels add deepness to the crude realism of the stories, through a perfectionist rendering of the landscapes and the events themselves. Violence apart, the uncensored representation of a sex scene gave Sconosciuto's stories the mark of pornography for several years in the 1970s. This, together with other problems and the slowness of the meticulous Magnus in finishing the panels, forced the monthly series to end with N°6. As an end, Magnus showed Unknow being shot twice in the belly while trying to prevent a slaughter in a hotel.

The band was formed in 2012 by singer-songwriter Joshua Pritchard and his identical twin brother John. The Pritchard brother's previous musical group, Ruin/Renewal, released two EP's on the independent Portsmouth, New Hampshire based music label Burst and Bloom. The record, which features Catherine singing, was released by Sub Focus on Mercury on 4 November 2012, and reached No. 12 in the BBC Official Singles Chart on 12 November 2012. "Tidal Wave" is also a track on Sub Focus LP "Torus" released on 30 September 2013. Sub Focus and Alpines were awarded a silver disc for Tidal Wave by the British Recorded Music Industry (BPI) on 14 February 2014.2014 BPI Certifications No 05129 Catherine also sang on The Maccabees' LP Given to the Wild on the track "Unknow" released 9 January 2012 and sang it with them at the Little Noise Sessions in November 2012 which was shown by Channel 4 on 20 December 2012. Catherine has co-written and sung "Fall From Grace" which is on Maya Jane Coles' debut album, Comfort, released on 1 July 2013.
