The development of the gonads starts during the winter and the shrimps reach sexual maturity in their second summer. Sexually mature males have an extended reproductive capacity and are able to mate throughout the year, however the females mature seasonally. In the Strait of Sicily the females maturate and spawn from spring until autumn, with a peak in summer- autumn. This species gathers in shoals when mating and spawning.

Keratohyalin is a protein structure found in cytoplasmic granules of the keratinocytes in the stratum granulosum of the epidermis. Keratohyalin granules (KHG) mainly consist of keratin, profilaggrin, loricrin and trichohyalin proteins which contribute to cornification or keratinization, the process of the formation of epidermal cornified cell envelope. During the keratinocyte differentiation, these granules maturate and expand in size, which leads to the conversion of keratin tonofilaments into a homogenous keratin matrix, an important step in cornification. Keratohyalin granules can be divided in three classes: globular KHG (found in quickly dividing epithelia, such as the oral mucose), stellate KHG (found in the slowly dividing normal epidermis) and KHG of Hassall's corpuscles or type VI epithelioreticular cells of the thymus gland.

S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike lead SLFP won the general election and as a result, the United National Party was routed and reduced to eight seats in Parliament, only two former Cabinet members managed to survive, namely the Prime Minister Sir John Kotelawala from Dodangaslanda seat and Minister of Education M. D. Banda from the Maturata seat. Such was the admiration and high esteem his constituents held him for his great public service. In 1960 at the delimitation of seats two new seats came up replacing Maturate - Hanguranketa and Walapane and M. D. Banda was elected through the Hanguranketa seat. He was appointed Minister of Agriculture and Lands, Minister of Food, Commerce and Trade under the Hon.

At the end of the summer, approximately 15 days to one month before the snow has completely covered the study area, individuals start overwintering under large plants or stones. Overwintering is common in species of Timarcha, as well as other chrysomelids, and it occurs in most high mountain species, which are active only during the warmest period of the year. The short periods of activity (usually restricted to summertime) limits the breeding season to a few months in which these species have to maturate reproductive organs, mate, breed, and develop. Although adults lay eggs during the whole summer, larval activity is restricted to a short period (early to late June) after snowmelt.

Striped recently metamorphosed frogs have a relatively large liver, in comparison with unstriped ones, and their weight increases more rapidly. Tadpoles of striped Rana arvalis need more time for completing metamorphosis but, after metamorphosis, their growth is faster than that of unstriped froglets. In a frog widespread in Turkey and the Caucasus, Rana macrocnemis, the proportion of frogs with the stripe increases with the altitude in mountains of the Lesser Caucasus, but not in the Greater Caucasus. Given the same altitude, non-striped frogs from the Greater Caucasus grow slower and maturate later than the striped frogs from the Lesser Caucasus, which provides them selective advantage in high mountains, but their tadpoles are likely to be less resistant to overheating than those of the non-striped frogs.

UV-inactivated SeV can cause dendritic cells (DCs) to maturate and to infiltrate a tumor, and ex vivo infection of DCs with recombinant SeV induces maturation and activation of DCs within 60 minutes. When activated DCs that carry variants of recombinant SeV are administered, survival of animals injected with malignant melanoma, colorectal cancer, squamous cell carcinoma, hepatic cancer, neuroblastoma, and prostate cancer is significantly improved. It has been shown that the administration of such DCs prior to tumor cell injection prevents metastasis of neuroblastoma and prostate adenocarcinoma to the lungs. SeV can replicate to high titers in human monocyte-derived DCs. With the multiplicity of infection of 2, approximately 1/3 of the DCs begin to express encoded SeV proteins 8 hours after infection.
