The Rococo Revival style became fashionable from roughly 1845 to 1860. Classicism gave way to Romanticism and a fascination with the past became the basis for an entire range of "Revival Styles". The most popular was the French Revival Style that recalled the days of Louis XV and Madame de Pompadour - the Rococo Revival style. The style was popularized in the United States by cabinetmakers such as Henry Belter and Prudent Mallard.
A Belter refers to a resident of the Asteroid Belt around Sol, sometimes known as the Sol Belt to differentiate it from Alpha Centauri's Serpent Swarm. Rugged and highly individualistic, Belters make their living by mining the ores from the asteroidal rocks. Belters inhabit the main belt, trojan asteroids of the outer planets, centaur planetoids and NEA's. Transient by nature, the only home they typically own is their pressure suit, and perhaps their singleship.

In his review for Spin, James Grebey described the song as combining Clarkson's commanding vocals and Sia's songwriting prowess to great effect, and like "Heartbeat Song" before it, the track is an earnest and empowering tour de force with a truly anthemic chorus. Reviewing for Idolator, Bradley Stern doubled that remark, saying that the song is as one might expect a pairing between the quirky singer-songwriter and the masterclass belter to be — emotionally earnest and vocally explosive.

What a hook, and what a voice; Paul Mac's most commercially successful single is an all-time funky house belter that's probably still getting thrashed on pub jukeboxes in regional towns".

As a form of heraldry, Belters decorate their skintight suits with elaborate (and often expensive) torso paintings. Most Belters, male and female, sport what is known as the Belter Crest: shaving their heads on the sides, leaving a strip of hair down the center resembling a mohawk. However, the hair in the back can be of any length, particularly for women. In lieu of (or perhaps in addition to) a wake for their dead, Belters have a custom known as the ceremonial drunk.
They noted it was implausible for her to be able "to smell things and spot tiny details that unsettle all who visit her" while behind glass. With her signature silver hair and tight mermaid dresses, she became an early African-American sex symbol, garnering such nicknames as "The Bronze Blond Bombshell", "the black Marilyn Monroe", "The Belter" and "The Voice You'll Always Remember". Bryant left the industry in 1955 at the height of her popularity to devote herself to the Seventh-day Adventist Church. A decade later, she returned to show business as a trained classical vocalist and later became a vocal coach.
Newt has been noted as the first "emo" character for Hollyoaks and has been shown to follow certain emo characteristics, such as a reluctance to communicate with those around him. Producer Bryan Kirkwood stated: "He's a little belter who after a couple of years in the background will hopefully prove to be a really big character." Actor Nico Mirallegro was cast into the role. In March 2010 it was announced that Mirallegro would be leaving the serial after almost three years to pursue other projects, although his departure was included in the list of 11 other departees that new series producer Paul Marquess had axed.

Vocally, Grant runs the whole gamut from rock chick to blue eyed soul diva while the production, from husband Bernie Herms, is top rate. From the uptempo belter 'I Will Not Be Moved' to the soft piano ballad 'Make a Way', her distinct vocals are flawless and cement her status as the Christian pop star of our time. Lyrically, the album addresses a number of issues; struggling with cancer ('Our Hope Endures'), finding hope in the midst of life's difficulties ('Make It Matter')—a power pop song with an R&B; kick, and 'Let Go', about living in the moment. Let's hope Grant takes this advice herself and can enjoy the success this album will surely bring.
Prior to the concert Morissette revealed that she envisioned it to be a means where she could showcase her versatility as an artist. Specifically, she wanted to break free from her stereotype as a belter, and show her skill in dancing as well as demonstrating her softer side, which she did not get to show often. She topped the 2017 2nd Wish 107.5 Music Awards with a total of eight awards, far more than any artist nominated. Amon won all the six categories she was nominated in, and joined the Wishclusive Elite Circle with two Bronze Awards for her version of Mariah Carey's "Against All Odds" and Little Mix's "Secret Love Song".
Lar has been described as an ardent Middle-Belter, an active participant in the Middle Belt Forum. In Plateau State he championed a policy based on the idea that the state should help indigenes realize the benefits of their "emancipation" from Hausa domination, and that the centuries-old Hausa and Jarawa communities in Jos and Yelwa should be relegated to non-indigene status. In an interview in February 2009 he said that the Middle Belt was being neglected despite the great contributions it made to national unity, a reference to sacrifices in the Nigerian Civil War. He also complained of discrimination against Christians in the North, to the extent that they could not get land to build a church.
Upon his arrival, he captures a Belter (a worker from the asteroid belt) named Jack Brennan, who is infected by Phssthpok's store of tree-of-life root and is transformed into a protector (or at least a Human variant). They land on Mars where Brennan kills Phssthpok and is rescued by two Humans, Nick Sohl and Lucas Garner, who had set out to meet the alien. The first half of the novel ends with Brennan telling his story to the Humans before he heads for the outer reaches of the solar system. The second half of the book follows the path of a Human named Roy Truesdale who has been abducted with no memory of the event.
"Curious" has garnered acclaim from music critics. In January 2018, Time's Raisa Bruner recommended "Curious" among "5 Songs You Need to Listen to This Week", describing it as a vulnerable "frothy pop confection" the author believes is more socially conscious than Katy Perry’s "I Kissed a Girl" (2008). Gay Times' Nick Levine called the track "super-catchy". The Guardian's Michael Cragg reviewed the song as an excellent "electropop belter", throughout which Kiyoko does "what she does best", while Neil Z. Yeung of AllMusic called it "an endearing gem that chronicles a girl-likes-girl-likes- guy triangle". Abbey Perrin of Affinity Magazine welcomed "Curious" as the single "we’ve all been waiting for", praising Kiyoko's "smooth, effortless vocals".
"Invincible" received positive reviews from music critics. 4Music commended the song as an "empowering belter", while Nolan Feeney of Time praised the record, saying that of all the artists Sia has collaborated with, few are more suited to the spotlight-averse songwriter's brand of "victim to victory" anthems than Clarkson. In her review for HitFix, Courtney E. Smith described the song as having the looks to combine that Clarkson backbone everyone so loved from tracks like "Since U Been Gone" (2004) and the aural architecture of David Guetta and Sia's "Titanium" (2011). Reviewing for Entertainment Weekly, Taylor Weatherby complimented the track, writing that "Invincible" is more focused on reminding fans of the powerhouse vocalist Clarkson is, and that she that her "Stronger" spirit hasn't changed.
Her voice has a distinctive raspy sound to it, similar in vein to that of Pink and Amy Winehouse On "Party in the U.S.A." (2009), her vocals feature belter refrains, while those on the song "Obsessed" (2009) are described as "husky". Releases such as "The Climb" (2009) and "These Four Walls" (2008) feature elements of country music and showcase Cyrus' "twangy vocals". Cyrus experimented with an electropop sound on "Fly on the Wall" (2008), a genre that she would explore further with the release of Can't Be Tamed (2010), her third studio album. It was initially intended to feature rock music elements prior to its completion, and Cyrus claimed after its release that it could be her final pop album.
As an accompanist he played with such artists as Pepe Marchena, Niña de los Peines, Pepe Pinto, Juanito Valderrama, Niña de la Puebla, Niña de Antequera, Pepe Aznalcollar, Pepe Guillena, Niño de la Huerta amongst others. Pepe was cited by Carlos Montoya, in the New York Guitar Review, as being one of the very finest flamenco guitarists of his generation along with Manolo de Huelva, Sabicas, Mario Escudero and Niño Ricardo. Pepe Martínez made many recordings throughout his career, in Spain, France and the UK, on Columbia, Belter, Discophone, HMV, Odeon, Hispavox, Decca, Odean, Guilde Internationale du Disque and Discophon. The BBC made a documentary about his life called My Friend Pepe Martinez which was part of a series of programs about the spirit of Spain.
Mike Newdeck writes on his review for Alternative Addiction that "Green proves to be the main strength of the album, sounding remarkably like Patrick Wilson in places, yet adding his own distinctive personality". Andrew Hart writing for Rock Relapse describes Green as "a prototypical hard rock belter, the kind of vocalist who lends a nice twinge of gruffness to his superbly clean voice," which makes him a fine substitute for the band's last frontman. Brian Campbell of Starpulse opines that "by the end of the tremendous opening track "Life After Anger", you should know just about all you need to know about Emphatic’s Another Life. Chunky riffs, soaring vocals, and melodic hooks all coated in a glossy, radio ready sheen".
After sailing back to Adelaide the MCC were to play South Australia in the run up the Adelaide Test. Their captain "Pancho" Ridings won the toss and batted on a belter of a wicket, but was let down badly by his team as they were rolled over for 185 on the first day as all the England bowlers took wickets. Only Ridings himself (40) and wicket- keeper Gil Langley (53) made any resistance. With Peter May in charge Len Hutton, Godfrey Evans, Trevor Bailey, Frank Tyson, Brian Statham went to the races at Cheltenham Park Racecourse and Tyson won £50 (his tour fee was £600). When he returned he regretted it as Denis Compton had made a century of genius, 182 gold-stroked runs as he added 234 with May (114).
Evans is a supporter of the proposal to make 23 June a public holiday in the United Kingdom, to be known as British Independence Day. Following a Parliamentary debate on the topic, the announcement from the government of the United Kingdom to not proceed with the holiday at present, he said it was "a shame the government has made this decision, this is an absolute belter of an idea." On the issue of climate change, Evans has expressed his belief in the solar variation theory and the causes of warming on the earth and on other planets being sunspots, and praised the television documentary The Great Global Warming Swindle as "one of the best and most controversial programmes I've ever seen on television, particularly for those who don't like being spoonfed by Al Gore".
Floating into the Night was produced and written by Badalamenti and Lynch; Badalamenti composed the music and Lynch wrote the lyrics. Cruise initially regarded herself as "a Broadway belter" and had a reputation for letting "angry and aggressive emotions power her work," but Lynch "felt that Cruise had a 'soft, sad side'" and encouraged her to sing in a softer tone and in a higher register; Cruise's vocal style on Floating into the Night has been often regarded as "ethereal" and drawn comparisons to Elizabeth Fraser on the earlier releases by the Cocteau Twins. Cruise's vocals on Floating into the Night feature heavy use of digital reverb. Early recording sessions were difficult until Cruise heard her vocals treated with effects, upon which she recognized that Badalamenti was creating "mood pieces," and also took to Lynch's lyrics.
One variant (known as O'Toole's corollary of Finagle's law) favored among hackers is a takeoff on the second law of thermodynamics (related to the augmentation of entropy): In the Star Trek episode "Amok Time" (written by Theodore Sturgeon in 1967), Captain Kirk tells Spock, "As one of Finagle's laws puts it: 'Any home port the ship makes will be somebody else's, not mine.'" The term "Finagle's law" was popularized by science fiction author Larry Niven in several stories (for example, Protector [Ballantine Books paperback edition, 4th printing, p. 23]), depicting a frontier culture of asteroid miners; this "Belter" culture professed a religion or running joke involving the worship of the dread god Finagle and his mad prophet Murphy. "Finagle's law" can also be the related belief "Inanimate objects are out to get us", also known as Resistentialism.
The song was written and produced by Gaga, Mark Nilan Jr., Nick Monson, and Paul "DJWS" Blair with Aaron Raitiere providing additional writing. The ‘A Star is Born’ End Credits Song May Remind You Of Some Of Lady Gaga’s Other Iconic Ballads TATIANA TENREYRO It is Ally's ode to Jackson (characters in A Star Is Born), painting a picture of their romance as Gaga alternates between tender storyteller and throaty power belter, declaring "wanna see your face when I fall with grace at the moment I die". The song is performed in the key of G major with a moderate tempo of 105 beats per minute in common time. It follows a chord progression of G–G/B–Em–C during the verses and G–Em–G/B-G during the chorus, and the vocals span from E3 to E5.
But then, Desilu Productions thought that maybe too much had been crammed into one half-hour and since Ball and Vance (who both were great friends of Merman) were having such a marvelous time working with the legendary Broadway belter, they decided to expand it into two episodes, thereby taking advantage of Merman's formidable talents. So, a second filming was scheduled. In Part 1, Ethel was to be the houseguest of Lucy and Viv for a few weeks, and then in Part 2, a full blown episode was created that included scenes of Lucy once again, trying to get into the act. An all new Boy Scout show was filmed also, with Jerry once again hosting, Sherman dancing, and Lucy, Viv, and Ethel, this time joined by Mr. Mooney, singing and dancing through a history of show business.
" Entertainment Weeklys Mikael Wood wrote that "on A Different Me, this Oakland-born belter turns her focus from heartbreak to happiness only a few years after Blige promised she was done with drama. Fortunately, Cole still sounds plenty intense singing about finding a guy who completes her; in her experience- ravaged vocals you can hear relief, but also the knowledge that stability has a way of attracting trouble." USA Today writer Steve Jones found that Cole "is in a sexier, more playful mood on her third album. Her songs still wring the emotion, but there is much less pain than on previous works [...] It seems the still-evolving singer just keeps getting better." Similarly, Barry Walters from Spin remarked that "despite her third full-length’s title, Cole doesn’t mess with the formula established on her previous platinum albums, and that’s a blessing.
Ulf Reichstein-Markham was born on Wunderland in 2390, the son of a solar system Belter. Following the occupation of Wunderland by the Kzinti in the First Man-Kzin War, at the age of 18 he joined the "Free Wunderland Navy," what purported to be a resistance group but was little more than a band of space pirates occupying the Serpent Swarm (Alpha Centauri's asteroid belt). He was responsible for the capture of the United Nations spaceship Catskinner, whose crew later were responsible for the assassination of Chuut-Riit. He also came under the control of a Thrint who escaped its Slaver stasis field before being destroyed by the Catskinner AI. By the time Wunderland was liberated in 2420, Reichstein-Markham had become an admiral, and then was chosen to be Minister of War for the free Wunderlander government.
In September 2018, Maggie Rose released the LP, Change The Whole Thing with headlining tour dates in Hollywood, Dallas, Atlanta, and Nashville. Rolling Stone included the album as a “Must Have” along with Prince and Macy Gray and “positions Rose as a gifted and versatile pop-soul belter” in the vein of Bonnie Raitt and Joe Cocker’s Mad Dogs and Englishmen — a convincing assertion that Rose belongs right at the same intersection of musical style. In September 2018, she made her 50th Opry Show appearance with the legendary Jeannie Sealy making the introduction. Maggie Rose is a YouTube's Emerging Artist and a member of their Artist in Residence programs, and is a Pandora Artist to Watch 2018. She is regularly listed on red carpet Best Dressed Lists for her fashion sensibility with Vogue naming Maggie Rose as an “It Girl”, and Glamour calling her sophisticated and flawless.
The most famous heroic tenor of his age, Tamagno performed in 26 countries, gaining renown for the power of his singing, especially in the upper register. Tamagno was among the rare species of singers known as a tenore robusto or tenore di forza, and critics likened the sound of his voice to that of a trumpet or even a cannon. Tamagno's vocal range extended up to high C-sharp during his prime, but he was no mere ”belter” of high notes; his recordings provide evidence of his ability, even at career's end, to sing softly when required, modulating the dynamic levels of his voice with skill and sensitivity. Best known as the creator of the protagonist's part in Verdi's Otello at La Scala, Milan in 1887, he also was the first Gabriele Adorno in Verdi's 1881 revision of Simon Boccanegra, a far more lyrical assignment than the "Moor of Venice".
Variety said the film has a "heartwarming story, some lively songs and professional animation", adding that it is "a sweet, enjoyable romantic tale more likely to succeed as an afternoon diversion on home video than on the big screen". The New York Times wrote "The tunes Mr. Manilow has written for the movie are, like his familiar pop standards, bouncy and catchy", and commented that "the animation is fine". Washington Post Staff Writer Hal Hinson wrote that "A flourishing opening number—titled 'Here and Now'—proves that Short can belt out a song with the best of them", adding that the "Bluth studio style of animation is passable, and, in the case of a Brecht-Weill flavored production number, occasionally inspired." SFGate described the "show-tune- style songs" as "pleasant but forgettable", adding that "the singing by Short, Belushi, Curry and Broadway belter Golden is the best thing about the film".
Stories of asteroid mining multiplied after the late 1940s, accompanied by descriptions of a society living in caves or domes on asteroids, or (unscientifically) providing the asteroid with an atmosphere held in place by an "artificial gravity". The idea of such isolated settlements, coupled with existing stereotypes of American mineral prospectors in the 19th century "Wild West", gave rise to the stock character of a "Belter" or "Rock Rat" – a rugged and independent-minded individual, resentful of state or corporate authority. Among such works is Ben Bova's Asteroid Wars series. Another way in which asteroids could be considered a source of danger is by depicting them as a hazard to navigation, especially threatening to ships traveling from Earth to the outer parts of the Solar System and thus needing to pass the Asteroid Belt (or make a time- and fuel-consuming detour around it).
Dobson is seen and heard in the official video at the recording studio as she lent her vocals. Dobson's involvement with the Olympics continued on March 12, 2010 as she performed "I Want You" and "Watch Me Move" at the Opening Ceremonies for the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games.(Archived by WebCite at link on March 16, 2010) She covered "River Deep – Mountain High" for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 25th annual induction ceremony at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City on March 15, 2010.(Archived by WebCite on March 4, 2010) It inspired a reviewer to state that it, "...was an eye-opening version of Greenwich & Barry's "River Deep, Mountain High" by Canadian belter Fefe Dobson that was so good it makes you want to go out and buy all her music." Dobson performed on a twenty city tour across Canada in March and April 2010 on Hedley's The Show Must Go...On The Road Tour.
The novel centres around an eleven year old school girl, Tippy Chan and her babysitting Uncle Pike and his boyfriend Devon, who together form a secret amateur detective club "The Nancys" to try and solve Tippy's teacher's murder in her small town over one summer. Craig Sisterson, reviewer and founder of the Ngaio Marsh Awards said of the book "First-time novelist McDonald has opened his account with a real belter, a unique and enthralling tale." Vanda Symon review of The Nancys in Landfill Review stated "It is a bold author who writes a crime fiction novel from the perspective of an eleven-year-old girl, but Rob McDonald has captured the essence and heart of his young narrator, and with it brought a view of her world that is illuminating, funny, bewildering, heart-breaking and determined." Auckland Libraries listed McDonald and The Nancys in their Top 10 New Voices as part of their 2019 Top 100 list.
Nick Levine of Digital Spy gave the song a positive review stating: > With his last two singles stalling outside the UK top 20, his Third Strike > album yet to threaten the UK top 40, and the Brits panel forgetting > conveniently that he exists, it's hard to avoid the conclusion that pretty > much every clap of his grime-pop crossover thunder has been stolen by > another fashion-conscious MC from our fair capital whose semi-comic nom de > plume begins with "T". A troika of officers - Belter General Lucas Fry, flatlander Major Yankee Clandeboye, and Wunderlander Admiral Blumenhandler - established a semi-covert training center on Barnard's Starbase where unconventional officers devise plans for fighting hyperdrive- equipped Kzinti in the second war, as human tactics in the first were restricted by their own ignorance and by the ARM's structure (besides the liberation of Wunderland, only two other planetary assaults, on Down and Hssin, succeeded). They devise two ways to help prepare the rest of the human military: a war game called Trolls and Bridges, and a book, The Heroic Myth of Lieutenant Nora Argamentine. Written by Clandeboye, they are a fictionalized account of the diary of his cousin, Nora Argamentine, a U.N. officer caught by Kzinti who later rebelled against them before being gradually lobotomized. The book becomes extremely popular and helps raise morale, as well as the belief that the Kzin will attack again.
Music noticed that Coyle's "budget didn't stretch as far as cutting edge production" but ultimately described the album as "a consistent, strutting and reasonably on the button pop record". Charlotte Heathcote from Daily Express wrote that Insatiable "holds its own [...] but its pop-by-numbers approach lacks the individuality to stand out in a marketplace saturated with expensively produced pop" and noticed that "it squanders [Coyle's] killer ingredient: that belter of a voice". Lucy Jones of The Daily Telegraph gave the album a mixed review, saying that "once you sweep away William Orbit's glittering production and the hyper-stylised image of the Derry-born pop princess, there’s few outstanding songs here to leave the listener satisfied". Ian Gittins from Virgin Media wrote that Coyle "fails to use her deadliest weapon – her voice – to full effect on this proficient but somewhat personality-free album, preferring to warble gently over generic pop/R&B; cuts".
On 12 December, he netted for the first time in the domestic league to contribute to a 2–1 home win against league leaders Manchester City, also at Stamford Bridge. On 18 March 2012, Meireles scored a goal and provided two assists to Torres, who ended his 24-game goal drought in the 5–2 home triumph against Leicester City for the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. On 4 April, he scored a belter in the final minutes of a Champions League quarter-final 2–1 victory over Benfica, setting up a last-four tie with reigning champions FC Barcelona; he won his first title in English football on 5 May, after a 2–1 win against his former club Liverpool in the FA Cup final where he replaced Ramires for the last 15 minutes. He sat out the Champions League final against FC Bayern Munich by receiving a yellow card against Barcelona at Camp Nou, but was still given a medal for his participation after the 4–3 victory on penalties.
Most contemporary music critics and journalists described the song being a heavier, rock-oriented song. The New Music Express called "Black Bull" a "gnarly fucker that flexes their rock muscles – but this time it’s to bursting point. With razor-sharp riffs and a paranoid menace throughout, it’s a full-on onslaught so relentless that it feels constantly under threat of collapse". Laura English, writing for Music Feeds called "Black Bull" "a crashing belter of a song that fully showcases the band’s rock muscles". DIY called "Black Bull" an "absolutely fucking huge track" saying that "the opening guitar licks of ‘Black Bull’ build up into a thrashing rock number that sees frontman Yannis Philippakis undoubtedly straining a few vocal cords as he screams the lyrics over the tumultuous soundtrack. Tackling conflicted masculinity and delusions of grandeur, it’s biting and brilliant, the perfect introduction for ‘Part 2’." In an interview with NME, frontman Yannis Philippakis described "Black Bull" as well as Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 2 as "a heavier listen, the guitars are more emphasized and there’s some big riffs on it. It’s a rock record and it definitely carries on the narrative from part one".
" Writing for Idolator, Robbie Daw, Carl Williot and Mike Wass reviewed "Dangerous Woman" during their "Pop Perspective" article, with Daw calling it "one walk of danger worth taking", Williot praising her vocal performance and highlighting the "clever little flip of '(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman'", and Wass naming it a "decent song" but noting that "[she] still hasn't found her own lane." Lewis Corner from Digital Spy praised Grande's vocals, describing as "angelic" and completed writing it "almost sound too pure over the seductive guitar line and prowling beat, which threatens to blindfold you and tie up your wrists within one listen.". Reviewing the album with the same name, the editor from Sputnikmusic described the song as "the first moment that the album really shows flashes of becoming something special," and continued, "as it sways to a seductive beat that feels like it was extrapolated from the most revealing scene of a James Bond film." Quinn Maryland of Pitchfork shared similar opinion, the reviewer described it as "a slinky, empowered, Bond theme of a belter;" Brennan Carley of Spin opined that "without a doubt, the most mature piece of music she's released to date.
Tracey Wilkinson is an English actress primarily known for her role as Di Barker (then later by married names, Grayling and then Fenner before finally reverting to Barker) in the series Bad Girls. She joined the prison drama in Series 2 as a prison officer new to G-Wing, but by the end of her time on the programme (Series 7) Di was herself behind bars in the prison in which she had served as an officer, suspected of killing her second husband, corrupt Wing (latterly promoted to Acting Governing) Governor, Jim Fenner (played by Jack Ellis) - though she was in fact innocent of the crime. Tracey Wilkinson left Bad Girls in between the filming of the 2005 Christmas Special (now established as an additional episode to Series 7) and the beginning of Series 8 and the fate of Di Barker (last seen on remand for Jim's murder) remains unresolved, though she has presumably been transferred from G-Wing. Tracey Wilkinson is from the North East England and her acting CV includes a number of productions set in and filmed in the region, including the films Billy Elliot and Purely Belter (both 2000) and the BBC drama Our Friends in the North (1996).
