Many of the songs feature prominently within the film, with "Wise Up" even being sung by the cast at one point, but only two of the songs were written expressly for the film, those being "You Do" and "Save Me". "Save Me" would garner Mann an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song, losing to Phil Collins's song "You'll Be in My Heart" from Tarzan. The tracks "Deathly", "Driving Sideways", and "You Do" show up on Aimee Mann's following album, Bachelor No. 2, though the track "Save Me" replaces "Driving Sideways" on EU editions.

For instance, the Wise Up programme gives girls the ability and confidence address MPs and Ministers, give TV, radio and press interviews, hold functions and deliver group sessions. The participants develop skills in leadership, communication, teamwork and self-motivation. The services provided for young women include informal educational, information and advice on all manner of things, courses, workshops and drop-in sessions, counselling and one-on-one sessions as well as crèches. YWCA services can be accessed in 14 centres across England and Wales; in Government regions of the South West, London, South East, the East and West Midlands, North West, Yorkshire and Humber in England and in South Wales.

In 2011, Costello appeared as himself on Sesame Street to perform a song with Elmo and Cookie Monster, titled "Monster Went and Ate My Red 2", a play on "(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes". On 26 February 2012, Costello paid tribute to music legends Chuck Berry and Leonard Cohen, who were the recipients of the first annual PEN Awards for songwriting excellence, at the JFK Presidential Library, in Boston, Massachusetts, on 26 February 2012. In September 2013 Costello released Wise Up Ghost, a collaboration with the Roots. On 25 October 2013, Costello was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Music from the New England Conservatory.

As with The Collection, the songs are arranged in reverse chronological order. There is a special edition of the album that also contains a bonus DVD. The album contains at least one song from all of Grant's non-Christmas studio albums at the time of this album's release, with the exception of Never Alone (1980), Legacy... Hymns and Faith (2002) and Rock of Ages... Hymns and Faith (2005). Notably missing from the collection are several of Grant's hits, including "Everywhere I Go", "Wise Up", "The Next Time I Fall" (a duet with Peter Cetera), and her cover version of Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi".

In 1974, Victoria Carroll became one of the first actors to join The Groundlings (formerly known as "The Gary Austin Workshop"), a newly formed acting/comedy troupe The Groundglins - At The Beginning "Early members were "unknown" Craig T. Nelson, Laraine Newman, Edie McClurg, Cassandra Peterson (Elvira), Mary Edith Burrell and Paul Reubens. Tim Matheson, Anne Ruyman, Pat Morita, Jack Soo, Steve Bluestein, Adriane Barbeau, Jaye P. Morgan, Jeannie Berlin and Victoria Carroll had established themselves career wise." Up until that point of her career she hadn't really shown her comedic skills. Very soon that changed as she played a variety of characters in her seven years with the improv team, such as blond bimbo author Lureen Sue Franchot.

The day before the Liverpool match, Swansea manager Garry Monk criticised Shelvey's disciplinary record, telling him to "wise up" and put a stop to an accumulation of yellow cards earned through "laziness". In July 2015, Shelvey signed a new, four-year deal with the Swans, which would have kept him at the club until the summer of 2019. On 10 January 2016, following a shock 3–2 defeat to League Two team Oxford United in the FA Cup, Shelvey appeared to become embroiled in a row with one Swansea fan and then appeared to invite the man to meet him outside. Manager Alan Curtis responded stating "we expect more from Jonjo, it is as simple as that".

The original soundtrack release omits two songs sung in the film: Rocky's "The Sword of Damocles" and the Frank-N- Furter-led "Planet, Schmanet, Janet" (often referred to as "Wise Up, Janet Weiss"). Also omitted was "Once in a While," which was filmed but later cut. All three songs were restored for the 25th anniversary release of the album ("25 Years of Absolute Pleasure") however "Planet, Schmanet, Janet" lacks the final verse (don't get hot and flustered) and they are in mono and ported directly from the film itself and so include all the sound effects and dialogue that would normally be omitted from a soundtrack album. In 2011 these three songs were released, as MP3 format only, in their stereo, studio mixes on the download-only release The Rocky Horror Picture Show Complete Soundtrack: Absolute Treasures 2011 Special Edition.
