Their version was released two weeks before The Toggery Five's planned distribution. The Hollies achieved a number one hit, preventing the Toggery Five from reaching national success. They were then offered a Hollies' composition, "Going Away", which they recorded but never released. Renshaw left the band to play behind Wayne Fontana, and they regrouped with several new line-ups to perform until their disbandment in 1966.

The band began playing around Manchester, gaining a local following by playing R&B; standards. Renshaw sang the majority of the vocals as Smith could not sing to the style of music, limiting his role to tambourine player.

In 1901, Shoong opened a store in Vallejo called Sang Lee Dry Goods together with Hon Chui Choy, Doh DohWing and a fourth unknown person. Two years later, he bought out his partners and moved the store to Fillmore Street in San Francisco. In 1905, he changed the name to China Toggery, or Chung Hing in Chinese, meaning "revival" or "rejuvenation", and moved the headquarters to 927-929 Market Street. The stores sold clothes and household goods: quality merchandise offered at low prices.

The building, located on a 20-foot-wide and 90-foot-deep lot facing Sixth Street, was in use as a hardware store as early as 1887. Previously home to the United Woolen Mills Co., Kaiser's clothing store opened in the building in 1914 and went out of business in 1957."Kaiser's Toggery", Racine History, vindustries.com In 1928, Frank J. Hoffman designed a new Art Deco-style glazed terra cotta facade for the building, which was built in early 1929.

Young was born on 17 June 1947 in the Wythenshawe district of Manchester, England. After joining The Toggery Five and releasing a number of unsuccessful solo singles between 1967 and 1975, Young came to prominence as the frontman of 1970s rock band Sad Café, with whom he achieved multiple UK Top 40 and US Billboard Hot 100 hits. He formed Sad Café in 1976 and recorded with them until 1989. He enjoyed further chart success sharing lead vocal duties with Paul Carrack in Mike + The Mechanics, the pop-rock band formed in 1985 by Genesis guitarist Mike Rutherford.

"I'm Alive" is a 1965 number-one UK hit single by The Hollies, written for them by American songwriter Clint Ballard Jr. However they originally passed the song over to another Manchester band, the Toggery Five, before changing their minds and recording the song, which became their first No 1 hit in the UK Singles Chart. It spent three weeks at number one in the UK and was also a No 1 hit in Ireland. The song was released as a single in the US, entering the Cash Box singles chart on July 17, 1965, and peaking at No.84 week of August 14, 1965; it also appears on the US version of the 1965 Hollies album, Hear! Here!.

The proposed casino location is such that all the traffic to and from would likely pass through the middle of the town. On February 7, 2003, the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs held a meeting to discuss the environmental impact report produced by the Jamul Indian Tribe in support of the casino project. Hundreds of Jamul residents showed up to express almost unanimous opposition to the casino. On September 13, 2006, casino organizers held a meeting with the townspeople on site to address their concerns. The casino plan was further clarified, with an artist's conception of the proposed six- story casino and 12-story hotel complex on display. A court reporter was on hand to receive comments for or against the proposal, and of the 40 who did so, three were in favor. Most of the negative comments were in regard to increased traffic on California State Route 94, which narrows to a two-lane road at the proposed site of casino. On March 10, 2007, the tribe evicted three residents (not tribal members) who had been living on the Indian Village land but who opposed the casino: Karen Toggery and her son and Walter Rosales.
