Rebecca "Bec" Hyde, played by Ava Potter, is first introduced in the 18th episode of the 7th series. She is seen as a difficult person when Sid and Taz want to introduce themselves. She seemed hard to talk to but it's revealed they know that Bec was both bullied and also treated 'like a skivvy' by her grandmother, who took her in after her mother died. This created tension between her and the other residents, especially at the welcome meal where she won't eat with the others.

It was closed for good on 3 January 2010, and most of the vast collection of taxidermy pieces, historical artefacts and vehicles was auctioned off in April 2010. Two of the waxworks tableaux: Valentine Grey, the little sweep and "The Skivvy" are on display in the building which is now a visitor centre with shops and food outlets. The railway station building, as well as remaining an operational railway station has been restored as a café, railway memorabilia shop and small rail museum. The non-operational signal box has been restored to the state it may have been in during the steam era.

After being beaten by Barnsey, Nick applies for a cell swap, but he immediately regrets it when he is moved in with the even more abusive Queenie, who beats Nick several times, and then uses him as his skivvy; although Nick finds someone else to bully, the emotionally unstable Trevor Kellow (Peter Doran), who ends up committing suicide. Nick is denied bail, and is told by the magistrate that his trial is to be held in June 1989.

Lethbridge is the author of a history of the largest single occupation in 20th century Great Britain: Servants: A Downstairs View of Twentieth Century Britain (Bloomsbury, March 2013). She examines the difficult and changing relationships between employers and domestic workers in the 19th and 20th centuries. Servants in the 19th and 20th century were found in all but the very poorest houses, ranging from a single "skivvy" in a poor household, to country houses whose staff numbered in the hundreds. Lethbridge has drawn from a wide range of both oral and written accounts to create a book that is "empathetic, wide-ranging and well-written".

Stegar was born 15 November 1882 in Lambeth, London and she is the daughter of house-painter Wilfred Isaac Oaten and Lousia Dennis. In 1891 father and daughter migrated to Australia and it is said that her mother, Louisa, walked off the ship before it sailed and never saw her daughter again. Father and daughter settled in the Darling Downs in Queensland where they took up unprofitable land, that was infested with Prickly pears, and they experienced severe hardship. Due to their poverty Stegar started working at a young age as a nursemaid and, later, as a 'skivvy' (maid). After falling pregnant to Charles Stegar, an itinerant shearer, at 16 the couple married on 7 December 1899 at the St John's Church of England in Dalby, Queensland. The couple had 4 children together before, after being threatened by her husband with a gun, she left him and their children and traveled to Western Queensland. Stegar worked as a barmaid for 7 years before meeting Ali Ackba Nuby when they were both working at Mungallala, Stegar at the hotel and Nuby running a general store in another, disused, hotel. Stegar called Nuby an 'Indian Hawker' and the two formed a romantic relationship and would go on to have 3 children together.
