Even though few on-screen heroes looked like me back then, I couldn't have identified less with the story of a nameless insomniac office drone (Edward Norton) who attends support groups in church basements because they're the only places he can cry, has intense sex with a woman who steals jeans from laundromats and resells them at thrift stores (Helena Bonham Carter), and starts underground fight clubs with an off-the-rails soap salesman (Brad Pitt).
There were still a lot of surprises, such as a Spider-Man game made by Ratchet and Clank's developers Insomniac, the return of Crash Bandicoot, a zombie apocalypse biker adventure called Days Gone, an almost unrecognizable Resident Evil 7 that is full of decrepit eeriness and no trace of rocket launchers or Albert Wesker, and the first game from Hideo Kojima after his release from Konami, Death Stranding, its tense and surreal trailer suggesting it may have roots with PT/Silent Hills as both star actor Norman Reedus.
Climbing down into the courtyard, you go from chamber to chamber, spotting uncles and aunts and cousins you've never met in real life, and you find Watak near the cow's shed, sleeping just behind the doorway of a room filled with women, as if to protect them, and, after you aim your tranquillizer gun and send Watak into a deeper sleep, your grandmother, a lifelong insomniac, rises from her toshak and strikes you in the shoulder with a machete and calls for the men in the house, of whom there are many, to awaken and slaughter the Russian who has come to kill us all in our sleep.
