In 1948 Gaud retired at age 82 and his equity in the school was purchased by Berkeley Grimball for $125.00. Grimball began to build his school, a grade at a time, until he had about 180 students. The building on East Bay Street became too small for the growing school. In 1961 Grimball bought the Rutledge mansion on Broad Street, where the students had classes until 1964.

Founded in the early 1970s by Linda O'Quinn and her daughter Anna, the pre-school quickly became known for its personality and southern charm. The school quickly rose to prominence as the regions major feeder for many private schools and expanded to a second campus. Today the O'Quinn School is a subsidiary of Porter-Gaud, maintaining two campuses on James Island and in Mt. Pleasant.

Jhumroo is a 1961 Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy film directed by Shankar Mukherjee. It stars Kishore Kumar in the titular role along with Madhubala in lead roles. The screenplay is written by Madhusudan Kalekar, dialogue by Vrajendra Gaud and story by Kishore Kumar. It revolves around a wealthy girl who falls in love with a local tribal but her father disapproves of the match.

James played high school basketball for Porter-Gaud School in Charleston, South Carolina. He was named Gatorade Player of the Year in South Carolina after averaging 29.1 points, 12.4 rebounds, 5.3 blocks and 4.9 assists per game. James led the team to three state titles. He set Porter- Gaud's single game scoring record with 45 points in the Cyclones’ 84–49 win against Northwood Academy.

Later, he worked in Geneva in the studios of the landscape painter Léon Gaud (1844–1908). Colvakars, or people from Colvá, love fish and seafood. The cuisine is influenced by Hindu Gaud Saraswat Brahmin origins and four hundred years of Portuguese governance and recently a blend of modern techniques. The locals enjoy rice with fish curry (xitt kodi in Konkani), which is the staple diet in Goa. Colvá cuisine is famous for its rich variety of fish dishes cooked with elaborate recipes.

Charleston Day School participates in many sports, including basketball, volleyball, soccer, golf, tennis, and sailing. Rivalries exist with the elementary and middle schools at Porter-Gaud School and Ashley Hall. They compete under the nickname Scorpions and take pride in their sportsmanship as well as success. The school is also heavily associated with local charities and events, such as the now ended Run for Adela.

South Canara Saraswats, both Gaud Saraswat and Chitrapur Saraswat affectionately refer to their dialect as āmcigelẽ (Ours) This region has recently been bifurcated into Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts. Konkani speakers in South Canara are trilingual; they are conversant in Konkani, Kannada and Tulu. Some of the towns in South Canara have separate Konkani names. Udupi is called ūḍup and Mangalore is called kodiyāl in Konkani.

Heslop was born in Cierp-Gaud, France, the only son and youngest child of William Heslop, a horse trainer. His mother was Vera Molesworth Muspratt, a lepidopterist who had species of butterflies named in her honor. Heslop mentions in his book that he had a wife, named Vi, and a daughter, born in 1944. In 1970 he spoke of his wife in the past tense.

The Waring Library Gaud, born in Canada, had a master's degree from the University of Chicago, and had been headmaster of Lawrence Academy in Groton, Massachusetts. After marrying a Charleston woman, he founded the Gaud School in 1908 with 34 students. In 1912 he turned the school over to others in order to teach at Phillips Exeter and then to serve during World War I. He returned to Charleston in 1919 and again took over his school. The school was first located in a building behind his home at 25 3/4 Legare Street, but in 1920 it relocated to 77 Church Street. From 1928 until 1941 and again from 1957 to 1961, the school was located at 90–92 East Bay Street on the corner of Adger's Wharf. In 1949-50 there were some 20-25 students in three grades in a 1-room school on East Bay Street.

Madhvacharya established many Mathas by defeating various acharyas of different sampradayas. The followers of Madhva mainly belongs to three distinct groups, Tuluva Brahmins, Deshastha Brahmins and Gaud Saraswat Brahmins. Thus there are twenty-four separate institutions of the Madhva-Vaishnava faith. In the first quarter of the 17th century, Vidyadhisha Tirtha (16th pontiff of Uttaradi Matha) converted Gayawal Brahmins of Bihar to Madhva fold, who still profess allegiance to Uttaradi Matha.

Purushottam was born in Krupal Hemraj Chawl located on Gamdevi Street, Chowpati, Mumbai in a Gaud Saraswat Brahmin family to Laxman Trimbak Deshpande and Laxmibai Laxman Deshpande. His maternal grandfather, Vaman Mangesh Dubhashi, was a poet and connoisseur of literature. He had translated Rabindranath Tagore's Gitanjali into Marathi under the title "Abhang Gitanjali". The family used to stay at Kenway House, Procter Road in the Grant Road locality in Mumbai.

The ceiling panels in the little foyer are by Léon Gaud. Several artists—painters and sculptors—were commissioned to decorate the inside and the outside of the building in an eclectic style. The house was decorated in a style with gold highlights on light tones. Around the central cupola, from which hung a magnificent chandelier, a panelled ceiling with fifteen medallions featured portraits of nine actors and six singers.

On this Panchaganga ghat, mother Ganga has turned the corner of her stream to become ishyanyaplava (oriented towards the North-East). We belong to the Gaud Saraswat Brahmin community from the distant land of Aparant, but we are deeply devoted to Mother Ganga in the holy land of Kashi.

Nagaradhane, or snake worship, is also practised according to the popular belief that the Naga Devatha go underground and guard the species above. Konkani speaking Gaud Saraswat Brahmins have their own tradition of celebrating Rathotsava and Deepotsava like the Kannada speaking Brahmins. The Christians in Manjarapalke celebrate a special feast called Saanth Maari, also known as Attur Church festival, for 3 days. Thousands of people from all over India attend.

The inscriptions found in Goa bear testimony to the arrival of Brahmin families in the Konkan region. The Shilahara kings seem to have invited supposedly pure Aryan Brahmins and Kshatriyas from the Indo-Gangetic plain to settle in Konkan. These castes are the Gaud Saraswat Brahmins and Chandraseniya Kayastha Prabhus. Sahyadrikhanda and Mangesh Mahatmya allude to migrations of Saraswat Brahmins, constituting ninety-six families, who settled in eight villages of Goa.

Those Gaud Saraswat Brahmins (GSB's) settled in Cochin spread to neighbouring suburbs and villages. Some families came and settled in Chennamangalam. Since they did not have any place of worship in the village, they had to visit the nearest temple at North Parur by foot for spiritual needs. To remedy the situation, they joined together under Chennoth parambil Sri Dasa Prabhu and started efforts to establish a temple.

The Tulu speaking Madhva brahmins are Shivalli Madhva Brahmins. They are present in the coastal districts of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada of present day Karnataka state, Kasargod and other parts of Kerala state. The Konkani speaking Madhva Brahmins are Gaud Saraswat Madhva Brahmins, who are spread throughout the Coastal Karnataka, Goa and Kerala . The Bihari, Magahi and Hindi speaking Madhva Brahmins are Gayawal Brahmins, who are spread throughout the Gaya and Benares.

Kent graduated from high school in 1985 at Porter-Gaud School in Charleston, South Carolina. He graduated in 1989 with an A.B. in Russian History & Literature from Harvard University. He then earned an M.A. from the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University in 1992. Kent later graduated with an M.S. in national resource strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces of the National Defense University in 2012.

Saint Gaud was born to a wealthy family of Evreux around the year 400. Touched by the profanations perpetrated by the inhabitants after the death of Saint Taurin, he undertook to restore the Christian religion in his region. He immediately preached the gospel and built churches. He was Bishop of Evreux for 40 years before retiring in 480 to finish his life in the forest of Scissy, where he died around the year 491.

According to legend, the miracles that occurred near his relics were innumerable; the people paid tribute to him by the following adage: "Blessed Saint Gaud heals all evils". He is reputed to heal especially nervous diseases of small children and depression. He is revered at Saint-Pair-sur-Mer, where an altar is dedicated to him. Parents used to come there to bless their children's swaddles and thus preserve them from disease.

In 1986 the Middleton singers directed by Robin Rogers and Page Kelly represented SC in a national vocal competition in California. They were placed second, with their lead soloist Leland Simmons winning the top soloist in the nation. Charleston parents began removing their children from area private schools (Porter Gaud, Ashley Hall, Bishop England) and enrolling them in Middleton. All of the former Middleton High School alumni can be found on the alumni site.

Goan cuisine is influenced by Hindu Gaud Saraswat Brahmin origins and Portuguese cuisine as well as a blend of modern techniques. Locals enjoy rice with fish curry ( in Konkani), which is the staple diet in Goa. Coconut and coconut oil are widely used in cooking along with chili peppers, spices and vinegar, giving the food a unique flavour. Various seafood delicacies include kingfish (, the most common delicacy), pomfret, shark, tuna and mackerel are also popular.

Middleton was named Most Valuable Player of the Porter-Gaud Holiday Classic, scoring 22 points in the championship. He was nominated for the 2009 McDonald's All-American Boys Game, but was not selected to participate. ESPN ranked him the 64th best prospect in the Class of 2009, and noted he was the best shooter at his position. Middleton was recruited by Texas A&M;, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Michigan, and Saint Joseph's.

In 2013 he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters (honoris causa) from Virginia Theological Seminary. He served as President of the Association of Anglican Musicians (1988-1989) and the Royal School of Church Music in America (1999-2006). He served as instructor and director of choral music at the Porter-Gaud School (Charleston) from 1969-1985. Simultaneously, he was Organist and Choirmaster at the (Episcopal) Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul.

The Gaud family bought the Sword Gate House in 1949 following almost two decades of vacancy and repaired and furnished the buildings. They operated a guest house in the house for a time. Eventually, by 1959, they chose to pursue a subdivision of the property and sell off two lots facing on Legare Street to make ends meet. The plan was met with strong neighborhood opposition, but a city zoning board eventually approved the subdivision in late 1959. Mrs.

This temple has a history dating from about the 14th century when the Jain Bhairarasa Odeyars ruled Karkala and surrounding places. The Gaud Saraswat Brahmins were given land by the Jain Odeyars so that these people can lead a happy life. They also gave them lands for agriculture as these Brahmins had it as an occupation. The priests of this community namely Joishys, Puraniks and Tantris were the main people who had an existence from the 14th century.

The Kingdom of Kamata was between the 11-12th Century A.D. by the dynasties of Pala & Sena. Then after by the Khen dynasty in the 14th century AD until 1498 AD. Then the King Nilambar was defeated by the Sultan Hussein Shah of Gaud, who had it ruled by the Koch dynasty from early on in the 16th Century. When the English came along they Anglicized the term Koch to Cooch, hence the name Cooch Behar State.

Bhau Singh was a younger son of Man Singh I, Raja of Amber, born of Rani Sahodra Gaud, daughter of Raimal. He had one full brother named Durjan Singh. Prior to his accession to the throne, Bhau Singh had been posted in Bengal, working alongside the Deputy Subedar of the region. Following the death of his father in 1614, Hindu custom dictated that Maha Singh, the son of Bhau Singh's late elder brother Jagat Singh, inherit the throne.

Malvan Municipal Council has total administration over 4,620 houses to which it supplies basic amenities like water and sewerage. It is also authorized to build roads within Municipal Council limits and impose taxes on properties coming under its jurisdiction. This area of the Konkan is predominantly Hindu and the majority of these Hindus are Kshatriya Marathas, Bhandaris, Gabits and Kudaldeshkar Gaud Brahmins, Rajapur Saraswat Brahmins. Anganewadi Jatra and 'Bramhan Dev Jatra' are the major fairs in the region.

In the Maratha community, the maternal uncle is given the honour of the first snip during the ceremony. In Brahman, CKP and Gaud Saraswat Brahman communities when a male child reaches his eighth birthday, he undergoes the initiation thread ceremony variously known as Munja (in reference to the Munja grass that is of official ritual specification), Vratabandha, or Upanayanam. Marathi Hindu people are historically endogamous within their caste but exogamous with their clan.Cross-cousin alliances are allowed by most Marathi Hindu communities.

Some of the smaller ethnic groups who reside in Tamil Nadu are the Marwaris, Gujaratis, Sindhis, Punjabis and Biharis. Sikhs from the Punjab and Jains from Rajasthan are found in fairly appreciable numbers in the cities of Chennai, Coimbatore, Salem, Tiruchirapalli, Madurai, Tirunelveli. The city of Coimbatore has a significant population of Konkani-speaking Gaud Saraswat Brahmins who had migrated from Karnataka. Tamil Nadu also has a population of about 300 Zoroastrians most of whom reside in the neighbourhood of Royapuram in Chennai.

Naagdev is a 2018 Indian, Bhojpuri language action- drama film directed by Dev Pandey and produced by Neelabh Tiwari, Ram Karan Gaud and Ramesh Singh under banner of "Rambha Entertainment" and "Neelabh Tiwari Films". It stars Khesari Lal Yadav in the lead role and Kajal Raghwani in an opposite role. Awadhesh Mishra, Dev Singh, Ritu Pandey, Vinod Mishra, Anoop Arora, Samarth Chaturvedi, J Neelam, Maya Yadav, Reena Rani, Prakash Jais, Sanjay Mahanand, Priya Sharma, Rohit Singh "Matru" and Sweety Singh play supporting roles.

A good number of writings are available in four of the dialects mentioned above: Goa Hindu, Bardes Christian, Canara Christian and Canara Saraswat. The Canara Saraswat dialect includes the speech of the Gaud Saraswats as well as that of the Chitrapur Saraswats as the differences between these two varieties of speech are minor. Sashti Christians generally use the Bardes dialect for writing. The Goan Hindus use the Devanagari script in their writings but the Goan Christians use the Roman script.

Tidd was born on March 26, 1956 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is a second-generation surface warfare officer. He is the son of Vice Admiral Emmett H. Tidd, who was the commander of all naval surface forces in the Pacific during the Vietnam War and his brother, Rear Admiral Mark L. Tidd, was the 25th Chief of Navy Chaplains. Tidd grew up in various cities on the East and West coasts before graduating in 1974 from the Porter- Gaud School in Charleston, South Carolina.

Blue and white striped-jumpers are immediately visible in the streets and are seen to reflect not only their pride in all things to do with the sea, but also in their région, Brittany. The town centre leads from the port down to the coast, through cobbled streets filled with restaurants, cafés and bars. The town centre includes the Quartier Latin. It was at La place du Martray that Pierre Loti chose to put the house of Gaud, the heroine of his novel Pêcheur d'Islande.

Cochin GSB's are a branch of the Konkani language-speaking Gaud Saraswat Brahmins community belonging originally to Karnataka and Goa. They form the majority of Konkani- speakers in Kerala. GSBs of Cochin form the southernmost subsect of Saraswat Brahmins of West coast. GSBs of north Kerala are same as GSBs of Canara in speech and customs, whereas GSBs of Cochin and Travancore have developed their own Konkani dialect and Customs, which distinguish them from rest of GSB community, this subsect is now called Cochin GSBs.

James Khristian Middleton (born August 12, 1991) is an American professional basketball player for the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He attended high school at the Porter-Gaud School in Charleston, South Carolina. As a junior and senior, he was named South Carolina Player of the Year, and was a McDonald's All-American nominee. After being recruited by Scott Spinelli, he went on to play college basketball for Texas A&M; University, where he started the majority of the games in his freshman year.

The trade in Goa was mainly in the hands of three communities classes, being the Gaud Saraswat Brahmins, the Vanis and the Sets. Conflict between Daivadnyas and Vaishyas, in 1348 in Khaṇḍepar or Khaṭegrama, is mentioned in Khaṇḍepar copperplate.This issue was solved in Gaṇanātha temple in Khāṇḍepār, its antecedents are not known."Gomantak Prakruti ani Sanskruti" by B. Satoskar, published by Shubhada Publication Another conflict in the 17th century, between Shenvi Brahmins and Shets of Goa, these over social status was evidenced in arguments about use of traditional emblems like Suryapan, parasol etc.

Before the show went into production, Rashmi Desai was chosen to play the character of 'Angoori'. But Desai rejected the role because of age differences between her and co-actor Rohitash Gaud and the role went to Shilpa Shinde. Actor Aasif Sheikh revealed that before production started, he suggested the makers cast Shilpa Shinde, when he heard about the character of 'Angoori' for the first time. After one year in April 2016, approximately 80 actresses auditioned for the role of Angoori and Shubhangi Atre was selected after the unexpected exit of Shinde from the series.

In 1964, the original Porter Military Academy campus in downtown Charleston was sold to the Medical University of South Carolina, and the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad (now CSX) donated the current campus on Albemarle Point. In July 1964, the three schools merged and dropped the military program. The new entity, Porter-Gaud School, opened its doors to 435 male students in grades 1–12. As modern school facilities began taking shape across the Ashley River on the property donated by the railroad, classes met at the old Porter campus.

Zucker is part of the Coastal Community Foundation and Trident United Way, and is a trustee of the Saul Alexander Foundation and the Jewish Endowment Fund. She has served on the boards of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, the MUSC Foundation, and Porter-Gaud School. In November 2014, she donated $4 million to The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina for education programs. In return, The Citadel named its School of Education after the Zucker family, the first of The Citadel's five schools to be named after a major donor.

Beyond this, a hall with a recently renovated polychrome marble floor led to the house. The two flights of stairs leading to the foyer and the upper tiers were decorated with six large-scale paintings by Léon Gaud representing six types of music : military, pastoral, religious, light, Orphic and Dionysian. These panels, of a highly academic nature, alternated with medallion portraits of famous composers. All the decorative elements of the upper vestibule (door frames leading to the balconies, ceiling panels) were lost in the great fire of 1951.

Barbazan is a Spa town in the Comminges region located some 13 km south-west of Saint-Gaudens and 12 km north of Cierp-Gaud. The western border of the commune is also the departmental border between Haute-Garonne and Hautes- Pyrénées. Access to the commune is by Route nationale N125 which comes from the end of the A645 autoroute and passes down the western side of the commune south to Ore. The D26E road comes from Labroquère in the north-west and passes through the north of the commune ending in the village.

The lady heeded to the people and Jains only one condition that > "There are four powerful Ganas [Lord Shiva's servants] who should be > worshipped and given sacrifices of coconuts, green pumpkins, Turmeric and so > on; unless they would get angry. Also a yearly sacrifice should be performed > as no unholy things may happen in and around here." The Gaud Saraswat Brahmins and the Jain king openly said yes to lady, and the temple was built. Initially a huge platform was built and four pillars were made to stand in the corners.

There were regional variations among the Saraswats, such as those among Bardeskars, Pednekars and Sastikars. The Konkana mahatmya, from the 17th century CE, deals with the internal rivalry of the Saraswats and strained relations between these groups.In Kalhana's Rajatarangini (12th century CE), the Saraswats are mentioned as one of the five Pancha Gauda Brahmin communities residing to the north of the Vindhyas. The GSB ancestors identified themselves as of the Saraswat section of the northern Gaud division, in contrast to their Maharashtra and Karnataka Brahman neighbours of the southern division.

Malhar is associated with torrential rains. Besides the basic Shuddha Malhar, which was the original Malhar, several Malhar-related ragas use the Malhar signature phrase m (m)R (m)R P, including Miyan ki Malhar, Megh Malhar, Ramdasi Malhar, Gaud Malhar, Sur Malhar, Shuddha Malhar, Desh Malhar, Nat Malhar, Dhulia Malhar and Meera ki Malhar. In fact, this phrase is prominently heard in the raga, Vrudavani Sarang. It can be determined that raga Malhar or rather Miyan ki Malhar is a mixture of ragas Vrudavani Sarang, raga Kafi and raga Durga.

The temple is generally busy every month only during the full moon, and at Amavasya (new moon). In the past, it was a favorite of the Malabar pirates who used to frequent the islands during the 16th and 17th centuries. It is currently the site of an annual Hindustani classical music festival, which in 2005 featured musicians like classical singers Rajan and Sajan Mishra, and Santoor maestro Shivkumar Sharma. Branches of Shri Kavle Math and Shri Kashi Math, famous religious seats of Gaud Saraswat Brahmins, are located on the northern and western banks of the tank, respectively.

The meend from D to M via P is the heart of the raga. This phrase is repeated again and again. The G is used lightly as a grace note in the transition from m to P. The movements in the raga from one swara to another are quite complicated, and the extent of use of the different swaras often depends on the singer. Kedar is one of the five ragas that form the Kalyan Panchak or also called Panchya/Pancha Kalyan - Group of five similar ragas of Kalyan Thaat, namely Hameer, Gaud Sarang, Kamod, Chhayanat and Kedar.

The main ethnolinguistic group of the Konkan region is the Konkani people. Specific caste and communities found in the region are the Vaishya Vani, Malvani, Aagri, Kunbi, Koli, Vadavali, Maratha, Bhandari, Mahar, Billava, Bunt (community), Goud Saraswat Brahmins, Daivadnya Brahmins, Kumbhar, Rajapur Saraswat Brahmins, Gabit, Padti, Chitpavan Brahmins, Brahmins, Chandraseniya Kayastha Prabhu, Somvanshi Kshatriya Pathare, Pathare Prabhu, Dravu Prabhu, Kudaldeshkar Gaud Brahmins, Kuruba, Namdev Shimpi and others. Tribal communities in Konkan include the Katkari, Konkana, Warli, Mahadev Koli and Kolcha in southern Gujarat, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Maharashtra's Palghar district. The Katkari are found in Raigad and Ratnagiri districts.

After the decline of the Vijayanagara Empire, much of Tulu Nadu came under the control of the Keladi Nayakas of Ikkeri. A typical red tile-roofed house in Tulu Nadu Over the following many centuries, more ethnic groups migrated to the area. Various Hindu Konkani people namely Gaud Saraswat Brahmins, Daivajnya Brahmins, Karhad Brahmins, a few Chitpavans (Konkanastha Brahmins), Vaani, a few Rajapur Saraswats arrived by sea during the religious persecution by lawless Portuguese pirates and ex-jailbirds. Mangalore was a major port that served not only the Portuguese but also the Arabs for maritime trades.

Vaikuntha Chaturdashi is a Hindu holy day, which is observed on chaturdashi, the 14th lunar day of the waxing moon fortnight (shukla paksha) of the Hindu month of Kartik (November–December). The day is sacred to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. They are worshipped individually or together in different temples in Varanasi, Rishikesh, Gaya and Maharashtra. The holy day of Vaikuntha Chaturdashi is also observed in Maharashtra by the Marathas as per the custom set by Shivaji and his mother Jijabai for this occasion and by the Gaud Saraswat Brahmins, though in a slightly different format.

According to Rahul Sankrityayan's book Himalaya Parichaya: Garhwal (), the Dabrals were originally inhabitants of Maharashtra state of the Western India region, from where they migrated to the Himalayas in the north as a result of the Islamic invasion in the 14th century A.D. Some sources cite that two Gaud Saraswat Brahmin brothers from Maharashtra named Raghunath and Vishwanath migrated to the Garhwal region in the year 1376 A.D. where they first settled at the hilly village Dabar in Pauri Garhwal district near the town Lansdowne in present day Uttarakhand thus given the surname Dabral. Modern day Dabrals are considered their descendants.

Maybank was born in Charleston, South Carolina, into one of the city's most prominent and wealthy families. He was the direct descendant of five former South Carolina governors: Thomas Smith, Rawlins Lowndes, Robert Gibbes, James Moore and William Aiken, Jr. Additionally, he was related to U.S. Senator Robert Barnwell Rhett. Maybank graduated from the Porter Military Academy (now known as Porter-Gaud) and went on to earn a degree from the College of Charleston. He served in the United States Navy during World War I. Burnet Maybank was born to Dr. Joseph Maybank VI and Harriet Lowndes Rhett, the first of ten.

Baji Rao I, the second Peshwa of the Maratha Empire, was a Konkani and belonged to the Chitpavan community The first wave of Vedic people came and settled from Northern India in then Konkan region about 2400 BC. Some of them might have been followers of Vedic religion. They were known to speak the earliest form of Prakrit or Vedic Sanskrit vernacular. This migration of the northerners is mainly attributed to the drying up of the Sarasvati River in Northern India. Many historians claim only Gaud Saraswat Brahmins and few of the other Brahmins to be their descendants.

Hutto held memberships in Sigma Chi social fraternity, Omicron Delta Kappa university leadership society, the American Guild of Organists, the Association of Anglican Musicians, the Royal School of Church Music, and the Cosmos Club. Hutto wrote several Anglican chants for The Hymnal 1982 and has several published anthems. On the September 11, 2015, episode of the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Stephen Colbert apologized to Hutto, his choir teacher at the Porter-Gaud School, for being a poor student.Stephen Colbert apologizing on air to Ben Hutto for being a poor student He died of gallbladder cancer on 29 September 2015.

Bishop England, Porter-Gaud School, and Ashley Hall are the city's oldest and most prominent private schools, and are a significant part of Charleston history, dating back some 150 years. Public institutions of higher education in Charleston include the College of Charleston (the nation's 13th-oldest university), The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, and the Medical University of South Carolina. The city is also home to private universities, including the Charleston School of Law. Charleston is also home to the Roper Hospital School of Practical Nursing, and the city has a downtown satellite campus for the region's technical school, Trident Technical College.

Henry Nutt Parsley, Jr. was born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1948, son of Henry Nutt Parsley, Sr., a priest, and his wife Barbara. He attended the Porter-Gaud School, an Episcopal college preparatory school in Charleston, South Carolina. He received his undergraduate education in English literature at the University of the South (magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, 1970), and his Master of Divinity from The General Theological Seminary (1973). He has studied at Oxford University in the areas of spirituality and soteriology, and received honorary Doctor of Divinity degrees from both the University of the South (1998) and The General Theological Seminary (1998).

The next day, British consul Maurice Gaud met with the governor of the island, Pierre Aubert, proposing to pay the French administration on British treasure if La Réunion would fight on. The proposal became public when Radio Mauritius broadcast it. Aubert consulted with local notabilities, but faced with the choice of illegally surrendering the island to a foreign government, he decided to stay loyal to Marshal Philippe Pétain's Vichy France government. Supporters of the French exile government of Charles De Gaulle, General secretary Angelini and captain Plat were transferred, and the president of the colonial commission Adrien Lagourgue was discharged, as well as Nativel.

Its bold lines and innovative architecture have helped make this building a leading example for many dental schools currently building new clinical facilities. With over 120,000 square feet, all departments and clinics have enough room to grow as needed while continuing to deliver the highest level of dental care. The Basic Science Building and Dental Clinics Building sit on land that once housed the Charleston Arsenal during the Civil War. The land was later donated to form the Porter Gaud School, which moved to a new campus, thus allowing for the creation of the Medical University of South Carolina at its current location in downtown peninsular Charleston, SC.

All the three institutions namely, Canara Bank,Canara High School and Canara Girls' School started by him have grown in size and stature. Among his important contributions to the GSB (Gaud Saraswat Brahmin) community was the setting up of the ‘Poor Boys Education Fund’ (which became ASRP Memorial Fund as per the decision taken at a meeting of the GSB community held in the Bhuvanendra Hall on 1st August 1909) under the aegis of Gowda Saraswath Brahman Parishad, of which he was one of the founders. He believed in creating an institution focused on social responsibilities. 'Focus on your goals and profits will follow' was his dictum.

One year later, Manning resigned from the Army and became a teacher in Berkeley County. Manning's teaching career was interrupted by the U.S.-Mexican War, and he left for Texas in June, 1916 as commander of the Charleston Light Dragoon, a National Guard unit. Following his return from Texas, Manning served briefly as Commandant of Cadets at the Porter Military Academy (now the Porter-Gaud School), before leaving to serve as an artillery officer in World War I. Manning served with the 316th Field Artillery in France and was promoted all the way to Lieutenant Colonel before returning to South Carolina in 1919. He worked as a farmer and businessman until beginning his political career in 1930.

During his adolescence, he also developed an intense interest in fantasy role-playing games, especially Dungeons & Dragons, a pastime which he later characterized as an early experience in acting and improvisation. Colbert attended Charleston's Episcopal Porter-Gaud School, where he participated in several school plays and contributed to the school newspaper but was not highly-motivated academically. During his adolescence, he briefly fronted A Shot in the Dark, a Rolling Stones cover band. When he was younger, he had hoped to study marine biology, but surgery intended to repair a severely perforated eardrum caused him inner ear damage severe enough to preclude a career involving scuba diving, and leaving him deaf in his right ear.

Renaud had the idea of creating a monument honouring Pierre Loti which would be inspired by two characters from Loti's "Pêcheur d’Islande", Moan and Gaud Mevel learning of Yann Goas' drowning, and presented his plaster model to the Salon des artistes français in 1932 winning a gold medal. Several versions were then made in terracotta. Then Renaud produced a much larger maquette of the work, 2 metres high, and this is held by the Musée de Saint-Brieuc. For many years the Association Pierre Loti in Paimpol toyed with the idea of having a monument created using the maquette as a model and it appears that this project is now well advanced.

Baburao Thakur, a Gaud Saraswat Brahmin (GSB), was a noted journalist, freedom fighter and social worker who led the establishment of the Belgaum Jilha Prathamik Shikshan Samiti on 1 October 1937. The Samiti established its second primary school in the remote village of Gavali and 206 schools were established and managed by the Samiti by 1939. Although the teachers faced housing issues, poor sanitation, inadequate water supply and low wages, the schools became a model for the Government of Bombay (now Mumbai). In the course of the work in the remote communities, the Samiti developed adult education courses, built roads, advised on agricultural issues and developed programs for sanitation — all of which raised the local standard of living.

In a village in Rajasthan, Durga Singh (Raakhee) is a poor woman raising her two beloved sons Karan (Salman Khan) and Arjun (Shah Rukh Khan). When Munshiji (Ashok Saraf) of Thakur Sangram Singh, comes to talk to Durga, Durga reveals that their father was the Thakur's son, who had married her against his father's wishes. Durjan Singh (Amrish Puri), a relative of Thakur, killed Durga's husband to prevent him or his family from inheriting the Thakur's estate. Durjan kills Thakur and when he learns of his plans to sign over the estate to Karan and Arjun, he brutally murders both with the help of his brothers-in-law, Nahar (Arjun) and Shamsher (Jack Gaud).

Before becoming pontiff of the monastic institution Uttaradi Math, he was known by three names after taking Sannyasa. He was first ordained Sannyasa as an ordinary ascetic with the name Vidyanatha Tirtha by Krishnadwaipayana Tirtha (the disciple of Vedavyasa Tirtha), for second time he was named Ranganatha Tirtha by Dandaparivritti of Vedanidhi Tirtha and finally for the third time by Satyanidhi Tirtha, with the name Satyanatha Tirtha. In 1660 he took the seat of Uttaradi Math as the peetadhipathi, taking the name Satyanatha Tirtha. According to the account in Sagara Ramacharya's ', Satyanatha Tirtha visited Benares at a time when Mughal emperor Aurangazeb was harassing the Hindus there, and Satyanatha himself seems to have suffered persecution and to have been helped out of a difficult situation by the high priest of Gaud Saraswat Brahmins.

Moreover the region is commonly associated with gold - the soil of Bengal is known for its golden color (gangetic alluvial), golden harvest (rice), golden fruits (mangoes), golden minerals (gold and clay) and yellow skinned people. Bengal is described in ancient Sanskrit texts as 'Gaud-Desh' (Golden/Radiant land). During the reign of the Bengal Sultans and the Mughal Empire, central Bengal was home to a prosperous trading town called "Sonargaon" (Golden village), which was connected to North India by the Grand Trunk Road and was frequented by Arab, Persian and Chinese travelers, including Ibn Battuta and Zheng He. Even today, Bengalis often refer to their land as 'Shonar Bangla' (Golden Bengal), and the national anthem of Bangladesh - Amar Shonar Bangla (My Bengal of Gold), from the omonym Tagore's poem - is a reference to this theory.

Karan Arjun is a 1995 Indian Hindi-language action film directed and produced by Rakesh Roshan, starring Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Mamta Kulkarni, Kajol, Raakhee, and Johnny Lever in lead roles, with Amrish Puri portraying the antagonist and Arjun, Jack Gaud, Ranjeet, and Aasif Sheikh in supporting roles. It tells the story of the titular two brothers who seek revenge from their greedy uncle for murdering their father, but are killed by him and are reincarnated to complete the revenge. Karan Arjun was theatrically released in India on 13 January 1995. The film received positive reviews from critics and grossed (), emerging as a "blockbuster" and the second highest-grossing Bollywood film of 1995, behind Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, which also featured Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Amrish Puri.

Because most of the city of Charleston is located in Charleston County, it is served by the Charleston County School District.
