Local geology of Chimaera flames, at exact position of flames, reveals contact between serpentinized ophiolite and carbonate rocks. Fischer- Tropsch process can be suitable reaction to form hydrocarbon gases.
Bendix also reveals the secret weapon they received in return for the spirit of Hitler: Fenris, the mythological wolf of Norse myth. King, Bendix and Fenris attack Chimaera as well. Together they defeat the troops of Chimaera and Trelane leads Malcolm and Addie Vochs to combine their powers, curing Chimaera's corrupted center. Trelane recruits a young boy named Matt who has the power to create superhumans and takes the Monarchy to the Throne, a mobile world and their new headquarters.
The source of this variety or hybrid is from the Italian Renaissance gardens. Today it is considered to be a lemon × citron hybrid. It's well known to be one parent of the Bizzaria chimaera.
However, some have argued that the remains of E. kawai are actually those of another prehistoric cartilaginous fish, Ischyodus, which lived about the same time and has also been compared to the rabbitfish Chimaera monstrosa.
However, Issa manages to overcome Ten and transfers her body to Haxaya's soul so that the fox-type chimaera can keep up a disguise so as not to arouse suspicion. Ziri: Ziri is described as being Madrigal's "little Kirin shadow", and was madly in love with her. Like Madrigal, he was Kirin (see Madrigal, below) and ended up being the last of his species to occupy his natural flesh. When Madrigal was beheaded, he is said to be the only chimaera who never cheered.
Ischyodus is an extinct genus of cartilaginous fish belonging to the subclass Holocephali, which includes the modern-day chimaeras. Fossils are known from Europe (including Russia), North America, and New Zealand. Ischyodus was rather similar to the present-day chimaera Chimaera monstrosa, which is found in the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. Just like C. monstrosa, Ischyodus had large eyes, a long whip-like tail, small lips, large pectoral fins and dorsal fin, and a dorsal spike attached to the front of the dorsal fin.
The Black Crusade was first published in Australia in January 2004 by Chimaera Publications in trade paperback format. It won the 2004 Aurealis Award for best horror novel and the 2004 Golden Aurealis for best novel.
This species was first described by Dominique A. Didier in 2002. Although it had been recognised the description of this species was regarded as being important because of the increase in the commercial fishing of chimaera.
Cechenena transpacifica is a moth of the family Sphingidae. It is known from the Philippines. This moth is similar to Cechenena chimaera, but the basal area of the forewing underside is reddish-ochre. Adults are sexually dimorphic.
It is mentioned by Pliny (v. 31) and Ptolemy (v. 3). Pliny places it opposite to Chimaera (geography); and both Pliny and Ptolemy name it Dolichiste. Doliche or Dolichiste, is a long island, as the name implies.

Eliza Jones is a 24-year-old is a researcher in Washington, D.C., where she is working on her Ph.D. As a girl, she escaped a cult that worshipped her as a prophet and descendant of the angel Elazael. She has visions in her dreams of monsters coming from the sky. When the recently abandoned camp of the Chimaera in Morocco is found and the pit is excavated, her boss is called in to analyse it, and she travels with him. Seeing the corpses of the Chimaera triggers more visions.
Thiago sends out an army including Ziri, Madrigal's "little Kirin shadow", to what he says is the Hintermost to help other chimaera, but in reality is an attack mission. The chimaera actually go to the Hintermost to help, and all die except for Ziri, who manages to glean the souls of the dead before attacking angels, who attack him in return. Karou says that she could try to heal him. After he is healed, Ziri tells Karou everything, including how Akiva summoned birds to let the Kirin escape.
The carpenter's chimaera is found in the southwest Pacific Ocean and the eastern Indian Ocean, particularly in Tasmania, Australia and New Zealand. Its exact population is unknown; however, a large number of specimens have been found in deep waters from fishing and scientific research. Due to this, it is thought that the species is common in the parts of oceans it lives in. The species is threatened by trawls, which, when searching for other species that live in deep waters in the same area as the carpenter's chimaera, will sometimes catch this species incidentally.
Whitworth was born in India in 1945. He graduated from Merton College, Oxford. His work appeared in Poetry Review, The Times Literary Supplement, London Magazine, The Spectator, Quadrant, New poetry, The Flea., Chimaera, The HyperTexts, Light, Qualm, and Shit Creek Review.
The chimaera bahamaensis displays a combination of morphometric features which include a short pectoral-pelvic space with a long pelvic-caudal space, a long pre-narial length, and a relatively large body that is uniformly caramel brown with dark brown fins.
Bulbophyllum chimaera is a species of orchid in the genus Bulbophyllum. It was identified by Schltr. in 1913. The species grows within montane forests at an approximate elevation 1000 meters on tree trunks devoid of moss, in Papua and New Guinea.
The paddlenose chimaera or paddlenose spookfish (Rhinochimaera africana) is a species of fish in the family Rhinochimaeridae found near China, Japan, Mozambique, South Africa, and Taiwan. Its natural habitat is open seas. It is threatened by habitat loss.Dagit, D.D. 2005.
The total maximum length of the longspine chimaera for males is typically roughly 93.9 centimeters, and roughly 103.4 centimeters for females. It is brown in color and has deciduous skin, with males having short claspers 11-13% of their body length.
In June 2018 the New Zealand Department of Conservation classified the carpenter's chimaera as "Not Threatened" under the New Zealand Threat Classification System. The International Union for Conservation of Nature lists it as Least Concern, as of 18 February 2015.
A second, smaller cusp, the hypoconulid, is present on the lingual side of the talonid, connected to the hypoconid by a postcristid. The pectinate (comb-like) shape of the anterior teeth is a shared characteristic of the colugos and highly unusual among mammals. Dermotherium chimaera resembles the Sunda colugo in that the c1 and p3 are also pectinate; in the Philippine colugo, these teeth are not pectinate. In Dermotherium chimaera, the p4 and m1 through m3 are similar to each other (and unlike the i3, canine, and p3) and appear to form a series of decreasing size from front to back.
On May 18, 2010 it was announced that Chimaera had entered a new deal with SpecFaction NSW who would administer the awards for 2010. Later in 2010 SpecFaction NSW announced that they reached a deal with HarperVoyager to be the exclusive sponsor for the 2010 Awards which would be held in May 2011. After three years of running the awards, SpecFaction NSW, decided they would not continue hosting the awards. On the 7th of May 2013 it was announced that Chimaera Publications had reached an agreement with Conflux Inc, who will host the awards for the next two years.
The TVR Chimaera is a two-seater roadster sports car manufactured by TVR between 1992 and 2003. The name was derived from Chimera, the monstrous creature of Greek mythology, which was made of the parts of multiple animals. First debuted at the 1992 Earl's Court Motor Show, the Chimaera used the same backbone chassis as the Griffith and used the same derivatives of the Rover V8 engine. The car was intended to be the long distance tourer of the range and as such was longer, more spacious and had slightly softer suspension than its sister car.
"Egg capsule morphology provides new information about the interrelationships of chondrichthyan fishes." Journal of Systematic Palaeontology 12.3 (2013): 389-99. However, there are some key morphological differences that are specific to chimaeras. The spotted ratfish chimaera is also known as Hydrolagus colliei.
Chimaera monstrosa is classified as a benthophagous species. This means that its main diet comprises bottom-feeding invertebrates. This includes animals such as crabs, molluscs, octopuses, sea-worms, and sea urchins. However, studies have also shown that C. monstrosa are opportunistic feeders.
In their description of Dineobellator, Jasinski et al. (2020) corroborated this position for Dakotaraptor, but also noted the likely status of Dakotaraptor as a chimaera, casting doubt on this placement as too basal due to the potential composite nature of the taxon.
Their bodies were probably broad and flattened, like modern rays. "Bradyodonti" can also refer to the present-day Chimaera or ratfish of the order Chimaeriformes, which have an upper jaw fused to the braincase and a flap of skin covering the gill slits.
The narrownose chimaera is found off Nova Scotia and in much of the rest of the Atlantic Ocean, and in parts of the Pacific Ocean to depths of 3100 metres. Very little is known of their biology due to their deep water habitats.
1275) says 'rex Chimeriensis' chimaericum plane est ('is an obvious fantasy'), since there was no city of Chimaera. The story claims that Charlemagne named Syagrius and his monastery Count of Cimiez, but neither counts nor counties yet existed.Gallia christiana III, p. 1275. Duchesne, pp.
Three hundred and fifty years have passed since humans first settled the Balkan star system, located approximately 150 light years from Earth, where a number of planets have been terraformed to resemble Earth. Two 11-year-old twins, Thor and Rai, live on the space colony Juno until they come home to find their parents have been murdered. The unknown assassins drop Thor and Rai on Chimaera, a secret planet used as a penal colony. Thor learns about Chimaeran society's four "Rings" and how to leave Chimaera by becoming the Beast King from Zagi, who rescued Thor and Rai after they immediately run into trouble on the planet.
Karou has taken up the job taken up of her adopted father Brimstone: the art of resurrection, which will bring the dead members of the broken chimaera army back to life to defeat the seraphim. Karou's best friend Zuzana and her boyfriend Mik begin looking for her after a mysterious e-mail and reports that a phantom girl has been stealing teeth. The son of the Warlord and new commander of the chimaera army, Thiago, has been courting Karou during her resurrection process and has offered up his own pain for the tithing process multiple times. He has specific resurrection instructions for her: make everyone larger, stronger, faster, and winged.
Karou, a 17-year-old art student living in Prague, goes about her daily life attending classes and hanging out with her best friend Zuzana, while simultaneously trying to evade her ex-boyfriend Kazimir. It is soon revealed, however, that Karou was raised by four chimaera living in a workshop on a trans-dimensional plane between the human world and Eretz, from where the chimaera originate. The workshop is owned by Brimstone, who is her father figure. While with Zuzana, Karou is summoned by Brimstone to do a job, which requires her to collect teeth - both of human and animal origin - from her world and bring them to him.
The perpetrators turn out to be an angel named Akiva and his, essentially brother and sister, Liraz and Hazael, belonging to a race of seraphim at war with the chimaera in their local Eretz. When Karou returns to the workshop for another mission, the chimaera tell her of their fears of her "taking her freedom" and abandoning them. Feeling uncomfortable with the thought of leaving her family, Karou ventures into Morocco to purchase human teeth from an old graverobber, Izil, who is burdened with a cursed angel, Razgut, on his shoulder. In her meeting with this man, the graverobber tells her Brimstone once asked to purchase baby teeth.
Metopacanthus is an extinct genus of cartilaginous fish from the Early Jurassic epoch in Europe. It is known from the Toarcian of the Posidonia Shale of Germany. It is unusual due to being an extrange aberrant Chimaera, with a jaw-like structure over the skull.E. Fraas. 1910.
The sicklefin chimaera (Neoharriotta pinnata) is a species of fish in the family Rhinochimaeridae found near Angola, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Mauritania, Namibia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Western Sahara. Its natural habitat is open seas.
They filter feed, with small shellfish making up the bulk of their diet. The plough-nosed chimaera lays eggs on the ocean floor that hatch at around 8 months. They are currently not a target of conservation efforts; however, they may be susceptible to overfishing and trawling.
YouTube also provides this location as the example address when setting the location of an uploaded video. Until 2000, the ground floor was home to a Palo Alto institution, Chimaera Books & Music. Like many independent bookstores, its closure was due, in part, to competition from the dot com economy.
Female O. chimaera is a montane species found in the Central Range montane rainforests. The larvae feed on species of the genus Aristolochia including Aristolochia momandul. The female lays up to 20 eggs on the leaves. Adults feeds upon the nectar of Spathodea (an invasive species) and Hibiscus.
The dark ghostshark (Hydrolagus novaezealandiae) is a shortnose chimaera of the family Chimaeridae, found on the continental shelf around the South Island of New Zealand. In June 2018 the New Zealand Department of Conservation classified the dark ghostshark as "Not Threatened" under the New Zealand Threat Classification System.
However, as the years went by, Horodecki eventually had to sell the building due to financial troubles, after which it changed ownership numerous times before finally being occupied by an official Communist Party polyclinic until the early 2000s. When the building was vacated, its interior and exterior decor were fully reconstructed and restored according to Horodecki's original plans. The building derives its popular name from the ornate decorations depicting exotic animals and hunting scenes, which were sculpted by Italian architect Emilio Sala, since Horodecki was an avid hunter. The name does not refer to the chimaera of mythology, but to an architectural style known as chimaera decoration in which animal figures are applied as decorative elements to a building.
According to the IUCN Red List, Chimaera monstrosa is categorized as vulnerable. Due to its high levels of lipids, the species has gained interest in fisheries for its liver oils to manufacture dietary supplements. Aside from its values for oil, the C. monstrosa is mainly discarded as bycatch product in fishing.
Akiva plans how to kill Joram, his father, to end the war with the Chimaera. When he is summoned to a council with Joram, he uses the opportunity to kill him. However, Jael has orchestrated the whole event, and used it to gain power. In the resulting battle, Hazael is killed.
Petalodus ohioensis Petalodontiformes ("thin-plate teeth") is an extinct order of marine cartilaginous fish related to modern day chimaera found in what is now the United States of America and Europe.Lund, Richard, E. D. Grogan, and M. Fath. "On the relationships of the Petalodontiformes (Chondrichthyes)." Paleontological Journal 48.9 (2014): 1015-1029.
The fifth-century BC philosopher Plato, in his dialogue Laws, mentions, in passing, "Briareus, with his hundred hands".Plato, Laws 795.c. The first-century AD Latin poet Horace, twice mentions "centimanus" ('hundred-handed') Gyges. In one poem Gyges and the "fiery Chimaera" are given as examples of fearsome creatures.
In 1883 W.A. Kiprijanow created a Poekilopleuron schmidti, of which the specific name honours Friedrich Schmidt, based on some indeterminate ribs and a sauropod metatarsal. This chimaera is a nomen dubium. A much later named species is Poekilopleuron valesdunensis created by Ronan Allain in 2002. In 2005 it was renamed Dubreuillosaurus.
Ogilby's ghostshark (Hydrolagus ogilbyi), also known as the whitefish, is a species of chimaera endemic to the waters of Australia. It lives near the ocean floor on the continental shelf and continental slope deep. It reaches a maximum size of . Reproduction is oviparous and eggs are encased in horny shells.
There is no stomach (that is, the gut is simplified and the 'stomach' is merged with the intestine), and the mouth is a small aperture surrounded by lips, giving the head a parrot-like appearance. The only surviving members of the group are the rabbit fish (Chimaera), and the elephant fishes (Callorhinchus).
Gorgon Pool () is a lake, or perhaps lagoon, between the Chimaera Flats and Kraken Cove in Candlemas Island, South Sandwich Islands. It was named by the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee in association with nearby Medusa Pool. The Gorgon is a mythical creature of Homer's Iliad, linked in other mythology with Medusa.
Dermotherium is a genus of fossil mammals closely related to the living colugos, a small group of gliding mammals from Southeast Asia. Two species are recognized: D. major from the Late Eocene of Thailand, based on a single fragment of the lower jaw, and D. chimaera from the Late Oligocene of Thailand, known from three fragments of the lower jaw and two isolated upper molars. In addition, a single isolated upper molar from the Early Oligocene of Pakistan has been tentatively assigned to D. chimaera. All sites where fossils of Dermotherium have been found probably developed in forested environments and the fossil species probably were forest dwellers like living colugos, but whether they already had the gliding adaptations of the living species is unknown.
In 2000, however, Brian Stafford and Frederick Szalay argued that Dermotherium might not be a colugo, since the fossil is so poorly preserved that few traits can be unambiguously recognized and some purported dermopteran features of the fossil are in fact also seen in other placental groups. Mary Silcox and colleagues reaffirmed the colugo affinities of Dermotherium in 2005 on the basis of detailed similarities in molar morphology. In 2006, Laurent Marivaux and colleagues described a second species of Dermotherium, D. chimaera, from material from the Oligocene of Thailand. They gave it the specific name chimaera (Latin for "chimera") because it shares characters with both the Philippine colugo (Cynocephalus volans) and Sunda colugo (Galeopterus variegatus), the two living colugo species.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone is a fantasy novel written by Laini Taylor. Published in September 2011 by Hachette Book Group, an imprint of Little, Brown and Company. The story follows Karou, a seventeen-year-old Prague art student. Karou was raised by chimaera, or creatures that have attributes of different animals and humans.
Its claspers have areas of bristles on them and are somewhat short and thin. Its appearance is similar to that of the abyssal ghostshark, another species of chimaera to which it is closely related; however, the black ghostshark's dorsal spine is longer than that of the abyssal ghostshark and its claspers are darker and smaller.
The southern chimaera is distributed in areas off the coast of Australia, from the New South Wales in the east to Western Australia. It lives in the southwest Pacific Ocean and the eastern Indian Ocean. It is a relatively uncommon species, but its population is currently stable. The exact population of the species is unknown.
Consequently, these are also among the few species from the chimaera order kept in public aquaria. They have elongated, soft bodies, with a bulky head and a single gill-opening. They grow up to in length, although this includes the lengthy tail found in some species. In many species, the snout is modified into an elongated sensory organ.
Thor returns to Chimaera to live with Chen, Zagi and the rest of the planet's inhabitants. In the end, it is revealed that Thor's genes have adapted once again, causing him to take on Third's physical appearance. He and Chen appear to be together. He adopts an orphan girl they both found, naming her "Tiz", saying it means hope.
This crest is displaced towards the front in the living colugos, but less so in D. chimaera. Two strong crests descend from the front and back faces of the protocone in a buccal direction. These crests end in small cusps (protoconules) that are directly lingual to the paracone and metacone. The living colugos lack these protoconules.
The son of the Warlord, he took over the chimaera cause when his father was killed. His gonfalon was a wolf's head with the words "Victory and vengeance" underneath. Thiago has just received from Brimstone when Karou first stumbles across the space underneath Brimstone's shop, and Karou accidentally disturbs him. He goes to attack her, but Brimstone saves Karou.
The sculpture was found among other small pieces that served as votive offerings to the God Tinia. This sculpture may also have served as an Etruscan religious dedication. After discovery, it began its residence in Florence, where it was moved to the Uffizi Palace in 1718."The Chimaera of Arezzo: July 16, 2009–February 8, 2010".
The Caprine have a poultice to help Sarazal. When the seraphim, including Akiva, are looking for the Caprine, Sarazal wakes up to see Rath and screams. Akiva pretends that it was just a bird and leads the other seraphim away. Zuzana and Mik decode the "puzzle" of Karou's e-mail and find where the chimaera are hiding.
She is forced to tell them about her life as Madrigal and her job as a resurrectionist. This thrills Zuzana, who demands to help. Karou refuses to let her and says that they need to get out as soon as possible. While they are told to leave, they amuse the chimaera and enjoy it in their presence.
Acta Neuropathologica. 2017;133 (1):79-90. . Braak's early research focused on the morphology of the central nervous system of chondrichthyan fishes. In the holocephalan species Chimaera monstrosa (ratfish), he described, in the basal midline of the diencephalon, a previously unknown ependymall structure adjacent to the rostral part of the optic chiasma referred to as the ‘organon vasculare praeopticum’.
Iniopteryx was a chimaera-like fish, described as "plump". It is known that the species average size was around half a meter long in length. While the species had specialized spines and fins superficially similar to that of a flying fish, there is much speculation about whether it could glide like a flying fish, or was actually benthic.
A deep-sea chimaera. Its snout is covered with tiny pores capable of detecting animals by perturbations in electric fields. The deepest recorded oceanic trench measured to date is the Mariana Trench, near the Philippines, in the Pacific Ocean at . At such depths, water pressure is extreme and there is no sunlight, but some life still exists.
The award was originally known as the Convenors' Award for Excellence and was renamed in 2002 after Peter McNamara (d. 2004), the original award Convenor, shortly after he was diagnosed with an incurable disease. It is given out at the discretion of the Convenors. After six years of being the administrator, Fantastic Queensland ended their partnership with Chimaera Publications.
Area near Yanartaş. Some say this geothermically active region was the inspiration for the myth of the Chimera. Mount Chimaera was the name of a place in ancient Lycia, notable for constantly burning fires. It is thought to be the area called Yanartaş in Turkey, where methane and other gases emerge from the rock and burn.
The back wall of main chamber is the only wall with frescoes painted below the gable. The tympanum of this wall is decorated with a fresco of a man on a horse on the right. He is opposed to the Chimaera on the left. Below the tympanum and above the two doorways is a fresco with two erotic scenes.
The two species are similar in size, but again differ in details of the dentition. In two specimens of D. chimaera, the length and width of the m2 are 5 and 4.3 mm and 5.4 and 4.8 mm respectively; this tooth is 5.4 mm long and 4.9 mm wide in the only known specimen of Dermotherium major. The Pakistani M2 of Dermotherium is 4.3 mm long and 6 mm wide, compared to 4.7 and 6.6 mm in the only known M2 of D. chimaera from Thailand. The lower jaw of Dermotherium major resembles that of living colugos in the presence of a strong angular process (a projecting piece of bone at the lower side of the back of the jawbone) and a retromolar space (a flat space behind the last molars).
The interior of the pelvic clasper is supported by cartilage and separates into two branches, ultimately ending in a fleshy lobe on the posterior end. The cephalic clasper (tentaculum) is a unique, club-like organ not found in any other vertebrates.Raikow, R. J., & Swierczewski, E. V. (1975). Functional anatomy and sexual dimorphism of the cephalic clasper in the pacific ratfish (Chimaera collei).
Chimaera egg case NOAAS Okeanos Explorer. Visible on its snout are tiny pores which lead to electroreceptor cells. Chimaeras live in temperate ocean floors down to deep, with few occurring at depths shallower than . Exceptions include the members of the genus Callorhinchus, the rabbit fish and the spotted ratfish, which locally or periodically can be found at relatively shallow depths.
The metaconid is stronger than the protoconid in the molars, but it is not clear whether this is the case in the p4. In the living colugos, the protoconid is higher than the metaconid in both p4 and m1. The trigonid is longer in the p4 than in the molars. In D. chimaera, the trigonid is broader than in D. major.
When she wakes up in a Caprine village and sees his head, she lets out a scream that gives away their location. Akiva pretends, however, that the scream was just a bird and saves them. First appears in Days of Blood and Starlight. Rath: Rath is a Dashnag chimaera, meaning that he has the head of a saber-toothed tiger.
First appears in Days of Blood and Starlight. Bast: Bast is a cat-type chimaera whose soul is, according to Karou, "delicate" and "ill-suited to a soldier". Her original body had the head of a cat and the body of a slender woman. Karou resurrects her into a much more animalian body, more muscular with paws for hands and leopard haunches.
She and Madrigal were once friends, and now that Madrigal is Karou their relationship still seems to stand steady. When Ten is killed by Issa's snakes, Karou slits Haxaya's throat and moves her soul into Ten's body. She then acts like Ten until she, Karou, and the others can escape from the other chimaera. She first appears in Days of Blood and Starlight.
However, Razgut survives and goes back to Eretz to meet with the other seraphims, who make him whole again. Razgut then tells them what he knows about Karou as well as the chimaera secret of resurrection. First appears in Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Joram: Joram is the emperor of the seraphim and father of the Misbegotten legion, his illegitimate children.
According to mythology, she was raped by the sun. Zamzumin: According to seraphim mythology, Zamzumin was the last Gibborim, a race of hideous monsters. He became the ancestor and creator of the chimaera. The Godstars: The serephim believed that there were once a race of bright warriors who traveled from their far away world to engaged in a long war with the Gibborim.
She returns one last time to Prague for the sake of seeing Zuzana's puppet show. In Prague, however, Karou is once more pursued by Akiva. She confronts and defeats him in a mid-air battle, and takes him to her apartment, where she questions him about Eretz and the chimaera-seraphim war. She strikes up a careful friendship with the angel.
Some of the most famous heroes from Greek mythology are brought to life in the stunning artwork. Hercules slays the half-man, half-horse Centaur. Pelops wins the hand of a king’s daughter by sabotaging his racing chariot. The handsome Bellerophon kills the fire-breathing Chimaera monster with the help of his flying horse Pegasus and a lance tipped with lead.
However, as it is formally impossible to change a named species into an unnamed one, George Olshevsky in 1991 used the new combination Megalosaurus schmidti. It is a chimaera. In 1993, Ernst Probst and Raymund Windolf by mistake renamed Plateosaurus ornatus Huene 1905 into Megalosaurus ornatus by mentioning the latter name in a species list. This can be seen as a nomen vanum.
In 2004, Tortoli et al. proposed the name M. chimaera for strains that a reverse hybridization–based line probe assay suggested belonged to MAIS (M. avium–M. intracellulare–M. scrofulaceum group), but were different from M. avium, M. intracellulare, or M. scrofulaceum. The new species name comes from the Chimera, a mythological being made up of parts of three different animals.
Radiation of cartilaginous fishes, derived from work by Michael Benton, 2005.Benton, M. J. (2005) Vertebrate Palaeontology, Blackwell, 3rd edition, Fig 7.13 on page 185. Cartilaginous fishes, class Chondrichthyes, consisting of sharks, rays and chimaeras, appeared by about 395 million years ago, in the middle Devonian, evolving from acanthodians. The class contains the sub classes Holocephali (chimaera) and Elasmobranchii (sharks and rays).
Petalodontidae is an extinct family of marine cartilaginous fish related to modern day chimaera found in what is now the United States of America and Europe. With a very few exceptions, they are known entirely from teeth. All fossils range from the Carboniferous to the Permian, where they are presumed to have died out during the Permian/Triassic extinction event.
Holy tourism activities are organized in Myra and Patara where St Nicholas was born and lived. The eternal flames of Chimaera that was the inspiration for the Chimera myth is also located in Antalya. In the area of Belek, . east of Antalya, there is a big potential for golf tourism with the bonus of the cultural, historical and natural sightseeing of the region.
Christine arrives and greets Malcolm, while Addie Vochs calms Morro. The Monarchy regroups and opens their attack on Chimaera following the plans Jackson left in Morro's head. Elsewhere Bendix, now allied with the Weavers, finds the spirit of Jackson King and resurrects him as a being of pure willpower. King contacts the essence of Farmer and shapes it into a sword.
The Secret Wars were a series of conflicts between the Loric and the Mogadorians, but it was covered up by the Loric government to keep the image and idea that Lorien was a utopia. This all took place before Lorien became its full potential, before the Garde received Legacies and the Chimaera came out of hiding. At this time ten Elders of Lorien were present, but some time during the Secret Wars the Tenth Elder of Lorien died; this has then been proven to most likely be Setrakus Ra, due to Raylan (Ella/Ten's father) being a descendant of the Tenth Elder that 'died' during the war. After the war, and there was peace once again, the Loric were gifted with the Phoenix Stones which led to them being gifted with Legacies and the Chimaera came out of hiding.
The subclass Holocephali ("complete heads") is a taxon of cartilaginous fish in the class Chondrichthyes. The earliest fossils are of teeth and come from the Devonian period. Little is known about these primitive forms, and the only surviving group in the subclass is the order Chimaeriformes. This group includes the rat fishes in the genus Chimaera, and the elephant fishes in the genus Callorhinchus.
Hydrolagus matallanasi, the striped rabbitfish, is a species of very rare, deep-water chimaera that lives in the ocean at depths to 600 m. The species is 150 million years old. It was discovered in 2001 by a team of Brazilian scientists. These 40-cm-long fishes have an unusual appearance; they have wing-like pectoral fins, a pointed dorsal fin, and a long, whip-like tail.
Chimaera monstrosa are fish that have distinct sex from birth. They reproduce by internal fertilization of male and female. For reproduction, C. monstrosa displays a small club like structure with a bulbous tip armed with numerous sharp denticles located on the top of the head. This structure is suggested to be used by male fish to grasp the pectoral fin of the female during copulation.
In the chimaera language, the word "karou" means "hope". In Days of Blood and Starlight, with Brimstone dead, Karou works for Thiago as the resurrectionist, as she is the only one left who truly knew the task. Zuzana: Zuzana is described by Karou as being like a rabid, tiny fairy in appearance. She is Karou's best friend in Karou's human form and Mik's girlfriend.
First appears in Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Liraz: Liraz is the sister of Akiva and Hazael and member of the Misbegotten. When Akiva declares that he is going to kill Joram to free the seraphim and chimaera from this war, Liraz stands with him. After Hazael is killed, Liraz distrusts Karou when she says that without a thurible of the soul she cannot bring him back.
The bight ghostshark or blackfin ghostshark (Hydrolagus lemures) is a species of chimaera endemic to the waters of Australia from Queensland to Western Australia where it is found near the ocean floor of the continental shelf and upper slope. Its depth range is between from the surface. It reaches a maximum total length of . Reproduction is oviparous and eggs are encased in horny shells.
Oleson sees the rider in the tympanum fresco as Bellerophon. According to Holloway the Etruscan artist did not copy the Greek iconography of Bellerophon and the Chimaera, but adapted it to an Etruscan setting. He identifies the rider as Troilus because he wears a Phrygian cap and has a large knot of hair. The scene signifies his voyage to the underworld after his sacrificial death.
The cephalic clasper, or frontal tentaculum, of the spotted ratfish chimaera is shown in color. Male spotted ratfish have multiple secondary sexual characteristics, which include paired pelvic claspers, a single frontal tentaculum, and paired pelvic tentacula. The pelvic claspers are located on the ventral side of the fish. They protrude out from the pelvic fins and are responsible for the movement of sperm to the oviduct of the female.
Like other members of the class Chondrichthyes, chimaera skeletons are constructed of cartilage. Their skin is smooth and naked, lacking placoid scales (except in the claspers), and their color can range from black to brownish gray. For defense, most chimaeras have a venomous spine in front of the dorsal fin. Chimaeras resemble sharks in some ways: they employ claspers for internal fertilization of females and they lay eggs with leathery cases.
Chimaera monstrosa, also known as the rabbit fish or rat fish, is a northeast Atlantic and Mediterranean species of cartilaginous fish in the family Chimaeridae. The rabbit fish is known for its characteristically large head and small, tapering body. With large eyes, nostrils, and tooth plates, the head gives them a rabbit-like appearance, hence the nickname “Rabbit fish”. They can grow to and live for up to 30 years.
Joram personally kills Brimstone and so Karou has to take over the resurrection trade. First appears in Daughter of Smoke and Bone and appears in flashbacks in Days of Blood and Starlight. Akiva: Akiva is a seraph and member of the Misbegotten, or the illegitimate sons and daughters of Emperor Joram. He is known among his people as "Beast's Bane" because of the amount of chimaera that he has killed.
Due to his mother's Stelian ancestry, he has an unusually large amount of magic for a seraph. To stop Jael's army from hatching their evil plot, he plans to burn all portals from Eretz to the human world, but is too late. First appears in Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Thiago: Thiago is a chimaera with wolf haunches and clawed fingernails, although he was originally stag-headed like his father.
This is a list of all the characters in the Daughter of Smoke and Bone novel series by Laini Taylor. Due to the large number of characters that appear over the course of the story, the list is divided by species with the exception of major characters (chimaera, seraphim, or human), along with the respective novel they have appeared in: Daughter of Smoke and Bone or Days of Blood and Starlight.
Nesting has not been reported, and the salt water crocodile population in the GBRWHA is wide-ranging but low density. Around 125 species of shark, stingray, skates or chimaera live on the reef. Close to 5,000 species of mollusc have been recorded on the reef, including the giant clam and various nudibranchs and cone snails. Forty-nine species of pipefish and nine species of seahorse have been recorded.
Hydrolagus pallidus is a marine species of fish in the family Chimaeridae found in the Northeast Atlantic Ocean, specifically near Iceland and the Canary Islands. It is commonly known as the pale chimaera or pale ghost shark, although it is not a true shark. Its natural habitat is deepwater seas and near the mid-Atlantic ridge. H. pallidus is found at a depth range of 800 - 3650 m.EOL.
While she dislikes it, she is afraid to offend Thiago. Meanwhile, two deer-like centaurs called Dama by the names of Sveva and Sarazal have escaped from slavery and are on the run. Sarazal has an infection from her manacles chafing her while she was enslaved. A boy named Rath of the Dashnag, chimaera with saber-toothed tiger heads, comes and helps them by carrying Sarazal to a Caprine village.
The bigeye chimaera (Hydrolagus macrophthalmus) is a species of fish in the family Chimaeridae. It is found in Chile and possibly Ecuador. Its natural habitat is open seas. It is only known from the preabyssal zone off Valparaiso, and may occur as far south as Valdivia and as far north as the Galápagos Islands and Nicaragua and Guatemala, so may be more widespread, but species research is not abundant.
The 4.3 litre engine option was replaced by the 4.0 litre High Compression option. The Chimaera was mildly updated in 1996. Updates included a rear bumper shared with the Cerbera, push button doors with the buttons located under the wing mirrors, a boot lid shared with the Cerbera and the replacement of the front mesh grille with a horizontal bar. The GKN differential was also replaced by a BTR unit.
Garibay has also worked with Alicia Lemke, also known as Alice and the Glass Lake, on her album Chimaera. Lemke passed away from leukemia in August 2015, after which Garibay took five months to perfect the posthumous album and work on tracks such as "Coals". Over the course of his career, Garibay has also collaborated with Simon Curtis, Sky Keller, Semi Precious Weapons, G-Eazy, Kiesza, and many other well-known artists.
The fossil deposits, located in the Cha Prong pit in a coal mine called Nong Ya Plong, are dated to the Late Oligocene. Other mammals found here include the rodent Fallomus ladakhensis, the rhinoceros Diceratherium sp. cf. D. lamilloquense, the carnivoran Chaprongictis phetchaburiensis, the lipotyphlan Siamosorex debonisi, and a pteropodid bat. Paali Nala, where the M2 tentatively assigned to Dermotherium chimaera was found, is in the Bugti Hills of Balochistan, western Pakistan.
She was one of the few chimaera who thanked Karou for the new body the resurrectionist constructed. Bast tells Karou that Thiago has killed Amzallag, Tangris, and Bashees and to go to the pit, and Karou is unsure whether Bast was a "conspirator or pawn" to Thiago. First appears in Days of Blood and Starlight. Razor: Razor is a member of Thiago's army and former Heth bone priest, meaning that he began with myrmecine traits.
Hazael: Hazael is the brother of Akiva and Liraz and member of the Misbegotten. When Akiva declares that he is going to kill Joram to free the seraphim and chimaera from this war, Hazael stands with him. After Joram is killed and the other soldiers, led by Jael, attack Akiva, Hazael, and Liraz, one soldier stabs Hazael in the heart. His soul is not collected in time and he is doomed to death.
In 2000, TVR announced that the Griffith production was going to end. A limited edition run of 100 Special Edition (SE) cars were to be built to mark the end of production. Although still very similar to the previous Griffith 500 model, the SE had a hybrid interior using the Chimaera dashboard and Cerbera seats. Noticeably, the rear lights were different along with different door mirrors, higher powered headlights and clear indicator lenses.
The Aurealis Awards have been running since 1995 and were developed to award work in speculative fiction. They were administered by Fantastic Queensland from 2004 to 2010 in partnership with Chimaera. The Aurealis Awards were created to differ from the Ditmar Award and the Australian Children’s Book Council Awards which don't distinguish between different genres of speculative fiction. The Aurealis Awards give separate awards for fantasy, horror and science fiction works across different age ranges.
The Aurealis Award was established in 1995 by Chimaera Publications, the publishers of Aurealis Magazine. Unlike the other major Australian speculative fiction award, the Ditmar Award, it divides work into subgenre and age categories, and is judged as such. The award was originally given out in the following divisions: Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, and Young Adult. Two separate awards are given in each of those divisions, one for novels and one for short stories.
In 1971, a resistant line of cassava, the predominant host of the pathogen, was established and used by the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture in Nigeria. This resistance worked as an effective control for many years. However, in the late 20th century, a more virulent virus broke out in Uganda and quickly spread to East and Central Africa. This highly virulent strain was later discovered to be a chimaera of two distinct Begomovirus species.
His first published poetry appeared in 1979 in the Tasmanian literary quarterly Island (originally The Tasmanian Review). From 1986 to the present he has been subeditor of Island and was poetry editor between 1989 and 1994. He is the author of seven books of poetry. As well as extensive publication of his verse in print media, Stephen Edgar has published poetry in online poetry magazines such as Snorkel, The Poetry Foundation, The Chimaera, and The Flea.
He wrote over forty poems and over 1,300 haikus in a five-month marathon, and a number of short stories. In February 2005 he accepted an offer to pencil and ink the interiors and covers of the new ongoing monthly title Of Bitter Souls from studio Relative Comics, originally published by Speakeasy Comics. It was written by Chuck Satterlee. Shortly before Speakeasy Comics went out of business, Relative Comics joined with Chimaera Studios and moved to publisher Markosia Comics.
The spotted ratfish (Hydrolagus colliei) is a chimaera found in the north- eastern Pacific Ocean. Often seen by divers at night in the Pacific Northwest, this cartilaginous fish gets its characteristic name from a pointed rat-like tail. The ratfish lays leathery egg cases on the bottom of muddy or sandy areas, which are often mistaken by divers as something inanimate. While mainly a deep-water species, it occurs at shallower depths in the northern part of its range.
Dermotherium major was found in a lignite pit known as Wai Lek in Krabi Province, southwestern Thailand. It is part of the Krabi Basin fauna, which contains at least 40 mammalian genera, mostly artiodactyls but also including some primates, such as Siamopithecus, Wailekia, and Muangthanhinius. This fauna has been dated to about 33 to 35 million years ago, during the Late Eocene. Fossils of Dermotherium chimaera come from Phetchaburi Province, further to the north in Thailand.
The species is also oviparous, meaning that the embryo development happens in eggs, and not in the female. Specifically, the reproductive tendencies of the Chimaera monstrosa show sexual segregation in different depths of water, with the females living at lower depths. This segregation of thesexes is attributed to two main factors: the regulation of sperm in males in warmer and shallower waters, and less aggression of sex. For males, they live in water 500–600 m to regulate sperm.
Impressed by his bravery and noble appearance, Diomedes inquired if he were an immortal in disguise. Although Athena has previously told him not to fear any immortal, Diomedes displayed his humility by saying, "I will not fight any more immortals." Diomedes and Glaucus Glaucus told the story of how he was descended from Bellerophon who killed the Chimaera and the Amazons. Diomedes realized that his grandfather Oeneus hosted Bellerophon, and so Diomedes and Glaucus must also be friends.
Ten: Ten is a wolf-type chimaera that works personally for Thiago. In Days of Blood and Starlight, Ten is in charge with looking after Karou to make sure that she doesn't escape. Ten shows enthusiasm in this and wishes to begin resurrection work herself, although Karou denies her this right. When Bast says that Amzallag and the Shadows That Live were killed by Thiago, Karou runs into Ten on the way to the pit and gets attacked.
Issa: Issa is one of the Naja chimaera, meaning that she has a snake tail, the hood and fangs of a cobra, and clothes herself with snakes. She raised Karou, sharing the job with Yasri, and was believed to be killed with Brimstone and the others. However, Brimstone and Twiga killed her and Yasri and gleaned their souls, hiding them in different places. Issa's thurible went with Akiva, who gave it to Karou so as to resurrect the Naja.
At first, Thiago is hesitant to allow Issa to remain there, as Naja do not have the wings that are needed by the chimaera army, but Karou talks him into keeping her, as she has resurrection experience. First appears in Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Twiga: Twiga is one of Brimstone's assistants. He has a giraffe neck and spends the majority of his time cleaning teeth and banding the teeth together with silver for Brimstone's work.
Parton describes his invention as "the game for Future Players in the Next Millennium", feeling that to be sufficiently challenging for later generations a variant should possess a larger board and increased possibilities. The distinction between moving and capturing methods of most of the pieces is a feature characteristic of the game. The Gorgon, Ximaera (Chimaera), and Fury are all terrifying female monsters from Greek mythology. The Dragon is also referred to by Parton as female .
"Catabolic Magic" was first published in April 2004 in Aurealis #32, edited by Keith Stevenson and published by Chimaera Publications. It was published alongside five other stories by the authors Paul Haines, Stephen Dedman, Sue Isle, Tansy Rayner Roberts, and Brendan Duffy. "Catabolic Magic" joint-won the 2004 Aurealis Award for best fantasy short story along with Louise Katz' "Weavers of Twilight" and was a short-list nominee for the 2005 Ditmar Award for best Australian novella or novelette.
Iniopterygiformes ("Nape Wing Forms") is an extinct order of chimaera-like cartilaginous fish that lived from the Devonian to Carboniferous periods (345–280 million years ago). Fossils of them have been found in Montana, Indiana, Illinois, and Nebraska. The Iniopterygians are characterized by large pectoral fins, wing-like projections on their backs, mounted high on the body and denticulated bony plates on the head and jaws. Iniopterygian sharks were small, and their average length was about .
It represents a juvenile individual. It is part of the collection of the Erlianhaote Dinosaur Museum. The fossil had already been prepared by the traders. Due to differences in colouration and the fact that the proportions of the postcrania, especially the long legs and large feet, resemble those of Azhdarchoidea, it was suggested in the peer review that the piece might be a chimaera, the head having been added to the rump to increase its value.
It has been suggested that the fires are the inspiration for the fire-breathing Chimera in Homer's Illiad. The site was identified as the ancient Mount Chimaera by Sir Francis Beaufort in 1811, and described by T. A. B. Spratt in his Travels in Lycia, Milyas, and the Cibyratis, in company with the late Rev. E. T. Daniell. The discussion on the connection between the myth and the exact location of Chimera was started by Forbiger in 1844.
The band spent early 2009 in Banff, Alberta, recording their first full-length album as part of a Winter Music Creative Residency at the Banff Centre. After postponing the release date of September 23, they revamped and re-recorded some of the songs in private studios in Vancouver and finally released Mount Chimaera on March 2, 2010. \- The tracks "Old World Lies" and "Requiem for a Scene" were used in the soundtrack for the game WET.
Monias benschi had an estimated population of 115,000, while the Uratelornis chimaera population was estimated at fewer than 15,000. A survey published in 2005 reported that 59 species of reptile were identified near the eastern shore of Lake Ranobe in the southern Mikea Forest, five of which were vulnerable. Some of these species include Matoatoa brevipes, Oplurus fierinensis, Furcifer antimena, Furcifer belalandaensis, Phelsuma standingi, and Pyxis arachnoides. The flora includes the baobabs Adansonia za and A. rubrostipa.
A research team led by Michael Coates from the University of Chicago Medical center has found that ghosts sharks, also named chimaeras, are related to the 280 million-year-old fish Dwykaselachus oosthuizeni. Chimaera-like features including tell-tale shapes of cranial nerves, nostrils and inner ears suggests that D. oosthuizeni was included in the group symmoriiform. Although resembling sharks in appearance, Dwykaselachus was not actually a shark, but rather had diverged from a common ancestor.
Strabo and Pliny are the only surviving ancient sources who would be expected to discuss a Lycian toponym, but the placename is also attested by Isidore of Seville and Servius, the commentator on the Aeneid. Strabo held the Chimaera to be a ravine on a different mountain in Lycia, placing it unhesitatingly in the vicinity of the Cragus Mountains, the southern part of the present Babadağ, some 75 km due west as the crow flies, and Isidore quotes writers on natural history (see below) that Mount Chimaera was on fire here, had lions and goats there, and was full of snakes over there. Servius goes so far as to arrange these with the lions on the peak of the mountain, pastures full of goats in the middle, and serpents all about the base, thus imitating Homer's description of the monster. The site was identified by Sir Francis Beaufort in 1811, as the modern Turkish Yanar or Yanartaş, which was described by Thomas Abel Brimage Spratt in his Travels in Lycia, Milyas, and the Cibyratis, in company with the late Rev.
Work by the fossil dealers had at that point generally exposed the left side of the skeleton. The synchrotron revealed that the bones continued into the rock and that the piece was probably not a chimaera, an artificial assembly of bones of disparate species, though the top of the snout had been restored with plaster and some elements had been reattached to the rock by glue. The skeleton is largely articulated and not compressed. It represents a subadult individual, about one year old.
He helps Zuzana to find Karou in Days of Blood and Starlight and then stays with them for a short period of time before they are sent back. His violin amuses the chimaera. When Zuzana thinks that Mik will ask her to marry him, he tells her that there are still two tasks he must perform before that can happen. He first appears in Daughter of Smoke and Bone, but plays a larger part in Days of Blood and Starlight.
All models use a five-speed manual transmission from Rover and TREMEC. Although the Griffith was almost mechanically identical to its sister car, the Chimaera, it had a different body design and was produced in much smaller numbers. The Griffith was a lightweight, high-power, and well-balanced car. A low-cost speed six Griffith proposal never became a production reality; by the time it was launched alongside the Griffith in 1999, it had morphed into the Tuscan Speed Six.
"Whispers of the Mist Children" is a 1999 fantasy short story by Australian writer Trudi Canavan. "Whispers of the Mist Children" was first published in Australia, in April 1999, in the twenty-third edition of the Aurealis magazine by Chimaera Publications. It was published alongside six other stories by the authors Robert Hood, Cameron Fade Gurr, Rjurik Davidson, Alistair Ong, Anthony Fordham, and Helen Sargeant. "Whispers of the Mist Children" won the 1999 Aurealis Award for best fantasy short story.
The longspine chimaera occurs exclusively in waters off the coasts of Australia. It lives on the west coast in the eastern part of the Indian Ocean and on the east coast in the western Pacific Ocean, and is native to New South Wales, Queensland, and Western Australia. However, one specimen was seen near the coast of Tasmania, south of Victoria, on 1 April 1988. The population of the species or its relative trend is unknown, but it is not severely threatened.
Karagatsis has been characterized as primarily a prose writer of the illusory reality of persons and situations. His writing is bold, sensual, with great imagination and a unique narrative style, and is often studied by Greek students. His first three novels (Colonel Liapkin, Chimaera and Junkermann) compose a trilogy named Acclimazation under Apollo, about foreigners who live and work in Greece. Karagatsis sets these books in modern, cosmopolitan Greece, in contrast with the stereotype that Greek life is conservative and countrified.
The mouth is small and contains one pair of forward-directed, incisor-shaped teeth in the bottom jaw and two pairs in the top jaw. Unlike sharks, which have sharp teeth that are easily replaceable, spotted ratfish teeth are plate-shaped, mineralized, and permanent, which assist them in grinding their prey. Like many bony fishes, but unlike its sister group, the Elasmobranchii, the upper jaw of the chimaera is fused with the skull.. [null ↑] Stevens, J.; Last, P.R. (1998). Paxton, J.R.; Eschmeyer, W.N., eds.
Known material of Dermotherium includes a handful of jaw fragments and isolated teeth. Dermotherium major is known only from a fragment of the left lower jaw bearing the third lower molar (m3) and a poorly preserved second lower molar (m2). The holotype of Dermotherium chimaera is a lower jaw fragment in which remnants of the deciduous third lower premolar are visible. X-ray microtomography reveals the unerupted lower third incisor (i3), canine (c1), third premolar (p3), and fourth premolar (p4) still inside the jaw.
The i3 of Dermotherium chimaera is an elongate tooth bearing six tines (narrow, high "fingers" as in a comb) arranged from front to back. The frontmost is larger, the next four are about equal in size, and the sixth is smaller. The number of tines resembles that seen in the Sunda colugo, which has four to seven; the Philippine colugo has three to five. The c1 is also an elongate, narrow tooth; at the front, it is slightly curved towards the midline of the jaw.
More specifically, this chimaera species is characterized by a slow-growth rate, and a long life expectancy. In the study of one population, the theoretical asymptotic length of this fish was estimated at 78.87 cm with a yearly growth rate of 6.73% per year. With these estimates of growth, the study also suggests the maximum ages of the fish to be 30 years for males and 26 for females, with the maturity age of the sample being 13.4 years for males and 11.2 years for females.
In the middle of Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Kishmish comes flying in at top speed on fire with his last note from Brimstone, requesting help. He dies in front of Zuzana as well as in front of Karou, so Karou is required to explain everything about the chimaera to Zuzana. Madrigal: Madrigal was Karou's original form. She was of the Kirin species, meaning that she has large bat wings on her back, gazelle horns, and gazelle-furred legs with hooves from the knee down.
Yod is the tenth cyborg (a robot with human appearance and programmed human characteristics) in a row of previously failed experiments whose programming has partially been completed by Malkah, Shira's grandmother. While Shira and Yod build up a (sexual) relationship, Shira's childhood sweetheart Gadi, Avram's son, also comes back to Tikva. Gadi returns due to his banishment for sleeping with a young girl. When Malkah is working on a chimaera (security software) to protect the city from online attack, she is attacked by Y-S.
Anne Roes "The Representation of the Chimaera" The Journal of Hellenic Studies 54.1 (1934), pp. 21–25, adduces Ancient Near Eastern conventions of winged animals whose wings end in animal heads. An autonomous tradition, one that did not rely on the written word, was represented in the visual repertory of the Greek vase-painters. The Chimera first appears at an early stage in the repertory of the proto-Corinthian pottery-painters, providing some of the earliest identifiable mythological scenes that may be recognized in Greek art.
The Corinthian type is fixed, after some early hesitation, in the 670s BC; the variations in the pictorial representations suggest multiple origins to Marilyn Low Schmitt. This outline of Chimera motifs follows Marilyn Low Schmitt, "Bellerophon and the Chimaera in Archaic Greek Art" American Journal of Archaeology 70.4 (October 1966), pp. 341–347. The fascination with the monstrous devolved by the end of the seventh century into a decorative Chimera-motif in Corinth,Later coins struck at Sicyon, near Corinth, bear the chimera-motif. (Schmitt 1966:344 note.
The myths of the Chimera may be found in the Bibliotheca of Pseudo- Apollodorus (book 1), the Iliad (book 16) by Homer, the Fabulae 57 and 151 by Hyginus, the Metamorphoses (book VI 339 by Ovid; IX 648), and the Theogony 319ff by Hesiod. Virgil, in the Aeneid (book 5) employs Chimaera for the name of a gigantic ship of Gyas in the ship-race, with possible allegorical significance in contemporary Roman politics.W.S.M. Nicoll, "Chasing Chimaeras" The Classical Quarterly New Series, 35.1 (1985), pp. 134–139.
C. argiloba is not widely used for commercial distribution purposes, but is subjected to other minor threats. One arising threat is the capture of this species by fisheries originally set on teleost fish and prawns off the coast of northwestern Australia.2 Companies such as the North West Slope Trawl Fishery and Commonwealth Western Deepwater Trawl Fishery operate around these areas where the Whitefin chimaera reside.2 They implement trawl gear that go to depths greater than 300 m, having the potential to inadvertently catch C. argioloba.
The claspers of a spotted wobbegong shark (Orectolobus maculatus) The claspers of a young spinner shark (Carcharhinus brevipinna) In biology, a clasper is a male anatomical structure found in some groups of animals, used in mating. A close up view of a chimaera clasper (Hydrolagus collie). Note the many small tooth-like projections covering the exterior surface. Male cartilaginous fish have claspers formed from the posterior portion of their pelvic fin which serve as is used to channel semen into the female's cloaca during mating.
Dean became an assistant for Professor John Strong Newberry who studied Devonian armored fishes. From the 1880s to the early 1900s, his scientific research allowed him to travel to Europe, Russia, Alaska, Japan, and the Pacific coast of the United States. He became professor of zoology in 1904. In 1909, Dean published "Studies on fossil fishes (sharks, chimaeroids and arthrodires)", published in Memoirs of the American Museum of Natural History and other articles on the Arthroleptid frog Astylosternus robustus and on the egg capsules of Chimaera.
A brief review of putative titanosaurids from Europe was authored by Jean Le Loeuff in 1993, and covered the supposed genera known so far. The Barremian (middle Early Cretaceous) species Titanosaurus valdensis, named decades previous by Huene, was kept as the oldest of the titanosaurid and given the new genus name Iuticosaurus. The French taxon Aepisaurus was removed from the family and placed in undetermined Sauropoda. Macrurosaurus was considered a chimaera of titanosaurid and non-titanosaurid material because of the presence of both procoelous and caudals.
Typhon is thus the chthonic figuration of volcanic forces. Serpent elements figure among his offspring; among his children by Echidna are: Cerberus (a monstrous three-headed dog with a snake for a tail and a serpentine mane); the serpent-tailed Chimaera; the serpent-like chthonic water beast Lernaean Hydra; and the hundred-headed serpentine dragon Ladon. Both the Lernaean Hydra and Ladon were slain by Heracles. Python was the earth-dragon of Delphi, she always was represented in the vase-paintings and by sculptors as a serpent.
The long-tailed ground roller (Uratelornis chimaera) is a species of bird in the ground roller family Brachypteraciidae, placed in the monotypic genus Uratelornis. Endemic to arid spiny forests near the coast in southwestern Madagascar, this ground roller occurs at extremely low population densities throughout its habitat. This species requires shade and a deep layer of leaves on the ground, and it is absent from parts of the spiny forest lacking these features. It has no recognized subspecies, and its closest relative is the scaly ground roller.
Chimaera obtained this way is phenotypically changed and passes it to the next generation). In 1966 Tarkowski developed a technique which enabled observing chromosome in oocytes, which has been widely used in early studies of embryo (Tarkowski, 1967; Cytogenetics). This publication is often cited, although has been publicised over 50 years ago. In later years professor Tarkowski with his collaborators showed for the first time in history that parthenogenetically activated mouse oocytes are able of developing until mid- gestation (Tarkowski, et al.,1970;Nature).
The problems begin with the brother of Charlemagne, Carloman, who was born in 751, making it most unlikely that his son Syagrius was made a bishop only twenty-six years later.Gallia christiana III, p. 1275. Charlemagne's presence in Nice was motivated (Vincentius says) by a desire to convert pagans in the area, during which he defeated the King of Chimaera (Chimeriensis); but there were no kings in the area, and most of the local people were Christians and had been Christians for centuries.Gallia christiana (III, p.
A 4.5 litre model was added to the lineup in 1997. It was originally intended to be fitted with the AJP8 V8 engine but due to the engine not being ready on time, a bored version of the Rover V8 was used instead. In 1998, the rear light styling and the number plate mounting angle was updated while the base 4.0 litre model was discontinued. In 2001, the Chimaera was again facelifted and now featured the Griffith's headlights as well as seats from the Cerbera.
A secret planet used as a penal colony where day and night last 181 days each and the planet is marked by extreme weather patterns. Plants dominate the planet's ecosystem. Their varied defensive adaptions, as well as carnivorous varieties, are a constant hazard to the people of Chimaera. The violent seasonal bloom of muses, where the plants erupt from deep below the surface to spread their canopies to the sun, are the main source of water for Chimerans; most of the water lies deep in the planet's crust.
Akiva and Liraz escape and bring his body to Karou, but because they did not glean his soul, he cannot be resurrected. After she kills Thiago while he is attempting to rape her, Karou puts Ziri's soul into his body so that she will not be forced to resurrect Thiago. Zuzana and Mik are sent away for their safety, but return with news: Jael and his Dominion, wearing the white robes of angels in human mythology, have invaded Earth. Akiva returns with a proposition: unite the Chimaera and the Misbegotten to fight Jael.
She and Mik have a puppet act, but it is failing now as Zuzana lacks the patience to keep it up much longer. Karou often kept her secret errands from Zuzana, but after witnessing the death of Kishmish, Zuzana learned everything. In Days of Blood and Starlight, Karou sends Zuzana an e-mail that the latter takes to mean as a code for rescuing, but it is only when she gets to the chimaera hideout that she learns Karou never wanted to be rescued. Rabbit-fish, Chimaera monstrosa Hardy was born in Nottingham, the son of Richard Hardy, an architect, and his wife, Elizabeth Hannah Clavering. He was educated not far away at Oundle School. He had intended to go to Oxford University in 1914, but on the outbreak of war he instead volunteered for the army, and was made a camoufleur, a camouflage officer. Hardy wrote that he had been He was selected for camouflage work by the artist Solomon J. Solomon, who apparently mistook him for a different Hardy who was a professional artist.
Coccodus is an extinct genus of extinct pycnodontid fish that lived during the lower Cenomanian. The various species had a pair of massive, curved spines emanating from the lower sides of the head, and one curved spine on the top of its head. Unlike most pycnodontids (which tend to have short, marine butterflyfish-like bodies), Coccodus species had a comparatively long body, giving the living animals a superficial resemblance to a scaly chimaera. Coccodus is closely related to the similarly spined genera Trewavasia, Corusichthys, Paracoccodus, and Hensodon, which also lived during the Cenomanian of Lebanon.
When Akiva is summoned to a council with Joram, he has his opportunity to kill the emperor. He uses the glamour to disguise his sword and, upon hearing the news that Joram killed his mother Festival, kills the emperor. Jael then steps in and kills Japheth, the crown prince, so that he can be the new emperor. Jael then commands that white robes and harps be given to everyone in an attempt to invade the human world and make the chimaera look evil for trying to fight the holy angels.
The TVR Tamora is a 2-seater sports car built from 2002 by British automobile manufacturer TVR, filling the gap left by the company's Chimaera and Griffith models. Introduced at the 2000 Birmingham Motor Show, the car is named after Tamora, a character in William Shakespeare's play Titus Andronicus and served as an entry-level model in the TVR range. Peter Wheeler was no longer directly responsible for design and the car was designed by a team led by Damian McTaggart (also responsible for the interior), but Wheeler still had final approval.
When Cleutin arrived in Scotland there was an interlude of peace with England resulting from the Treaty of Ardres. However peace between Scotland and the Holy Roman Empire was not completely concluded. The Imperial ambassador in London François van der Delft became aware of Henri Cleutin, who he called "Oysif," in Scotland in December 1546. The English Privy Council joked about his concerns and said that Cleutin carried letters of Bellerophon, the figure of classical myth set the impossible task of killing the chimaera after murdering his brother.
Much of it has been reserved as Olimpos Beydağlari Parki. Within the park on the slopes of Mount Olympus is a U-shaped outcrop, Yanartaş, above Cirali, from which methane gas, naturally perpetually escaping from below through the rocks, feeds eternal flames. This is the location of ancient Mount Chimaera. Through the cul-de-sac between Baydağlari and Tahtalidağlari, the Alakir Çay ('Alakir River'), the ancient Limyra, flows to the south trickling from the broad valley under superhighway D400 near downtown Kumluca across a barrier beach into the Mediterranean.
On average, the whitefin chimaera has a horizontal head length of 10.7 cm, and a vertical height of 0.68 times the horizontal head length.1 In total, C. argiloba has a body length of 40 cm and a total length of more than 90 cm.1Another prominent characteristic is its large gill opening that is separated with a posterior flap that protrudes from the head base, and is interconnected with the back of the gill cover by a short tube.1 Color-wise, C. argiloba is grey-silver, both laterally and dorsally.
She is last seen helping Sam and Malcolm escape, while John stays behind to find his own way out. In the beginning of "The Revenge of Seven" she is currently in an abandoned warehouse with John, Adam, Malcolm, Bernie Kosar, Dust, Sam and the Chimaera rescued from Plum Island. Later on Sarah and Bernie Kosar go off to meet with Mark James to find more information about the Mogadorians. In the "Fate of Ten" she goes to the sanctuary with Mark and Lexa to help Six, Adam and Marina fight the Anubis.
Adamus sacrifices himself, so Malcolm and Sam could escape, and battles several Mogadorians including Ivanick. Due to his time as a Mog captive, he is the initial suspect of giving over information to the Mogs, but it is revealed to in fact be Five. Four allows Ella to be captured in order to save Malcolm's life at the end of The Fall of Five. In the beginning of "The Revenge of Seven" he is currently in an abandoned warehouse with John, Adam, Sam, Bernie Kosar, Dust, Sarah and the Chimaera rescued from Plum Island.
The Song of the Tears is set ten years after the final scene of Chimaera. The self-proclaimed "God-Emperor" Jal-Nish Hlar holds almost absolute power over the world of Santhenar, though after the escape of his son Nish, with the aid of Maelys, the Defiance begins to rise. The people of oppressed Santhenar secretly await Nish's honouring the promise he made ten years ago, before he was imprisoned: assumption of the role of the Deliverer, the only man with a chance to overthrow the God-Emperor.
AAPG Review of CuuLong Basin and Seismic profile showing basement horst as trap for biogeic oil. A major component of mantle-derived carbon is indicated in commercial gas reservoirs in the Pannonian and Vienna basins of Hungary and Austria. Natural gas pools interpreted as being mantle- derived are the Shengli Field and Songliao Basin, northeastern China. The Chimaera gas seep, near Çıralı, Antalya (southwest Turkey), has been continuously active for millennia and it is known to be the source of the first Olympic fire in the Hellenistic period.
Macrotarsomys petteri and Microgale jenkinsae are unique to the forest and were only discovered in the 2000s. The popular ring-tailed lemur (Lemur catta) also occurs in Mikea Forest, though it seems to always have been present in very low densities. Since the habitat has started to disappear, the remaining populations appear to have become isolated. As of 2000, of the 27 threatened species of bird in Madagascar, only two (Monias benschi and Uratelornis chimaera) were not found in protected areas, but both were fairly common within the unprotected forests of Mikea.

Odin also reveals no new children are being born in the colonies, and that Thor is humanity's last hope for survival. Finally, Odin reveals a long-kept secret: that Earth was destroyed by an asteroid collision long ago, and humanity cannot return there, so they must adapt to survive in the Balkan Star System. However, Odin's plans involve dissecting Thor in order to mass-produce more genetically engineered humans capable of surviving in Balkan, and terraforming Chimaera, which would kill the planet's current inhabitants. With the help of Third, Thor stops the terraforming process, though Third dies in the process.
Some features of the teeth differentiate Dermotherium from both living colugo species, but other features are shared with only one of the two. The third lower incisor, lower canine, and third lower premolar at least are pectinate or comblike, bearing longitudinal rows of tines or cusps, an unusual feature of colugos (the first two lower incisors are unknown in Dermotherium). The fourth lower premolar instead resembles the lower molars. The front part of these teeth, the trigonid, is broader in D. chimaera than in D. major, which is known only from the second and third lower molars.
Brimstone: Brimstone is a chimaera with a ram's head, lion haunches, raptor feet, and reptilian eyes, with the rest being like a man's. He runs an otherworldly shop in which hunters and graverobbers give him teeth for wishes, although there are certain requirements for the teeth so that they can be used to create a proper body for resurrection. Having raised her from infancy, Brimstone is the closest thing to a father figure that Karou knows. When Madrigal was executed by Thiago, Brimstone gleaned her soul and fashioned her a new body of a human infant so that he could raise her.
The chimaera she lives with demand teeth in exchange for wishes and send Karou to fetch these teeth for them. In the beginning, Karou has yet to discover what the teeth are eventually used for and why there are rules such as "no baby teeth" and "no rotting". While on one of these missions, Karou finds a seraph named Akiva who finds something familiar in her. Daughter of Smoke and Bone received high reviews from critics such as Chelsey Philpot from The New York Times, and Universal Pictures has acquired the rights for a film adaptation.

The first-century BC Latin poet Virgil, in his Aeneid, may have drawn on the same version of the story as that given in the lost Titanomachy. Virgil locates Briareus, as in Hesiod, in the underworld, where the Hundred-Hander dwells among "strange prodigies of bestial kind", which include the Centaurs, Scylla, the Lernaean Hydra, the Chimaera, the Gorgons, the Harpies, and Geryon.Virgil, Aeneid 6.282-294. Later Virgil describes the "hundred-handed" Aegaeon (the Iliad's Briareus): Here Virgil has the Hundred-Hander as having fought on the side of the Titans rather than the Olympians, as in the Titanomachy,O'Hara, p.

It won the Jury Prize at the inaugural Bentonville Film Festival, which was co-founded by actress/activist Geena Davis to advance women and diversity. The film also won the Audience Award for the Best Narrative Feature, the Jury Award for the Best Feature Narrative and the Director Prize for Best Young Actress (for Taylor Richardson's performance as a severely autistic child) at Woods Hole Film Festival 2015, and The Chimaera Project Award at the Catalina Film Festival 2015.
The taxonomy of Protoavis is controversial, with several palaeornithologists considering it to be an early ancestor of modern birds, while most other in the palaeontological community regard it as a chimaera, a mixture of several specimens. American palaeontologist Gregory Paul suggested that Protoavis is a herrerasaur. In a paper by Phil Currie and X.J. Zhao discussing a braincase of a Troodon formosus, they compare the bird-like characters of Troodon and Protoavis. In the paper, they make a number of corrections involving both Chatterjee's and Currie's own misinterpretations of parts of Troodon cranial anatomy before the particular braincase being described was found.

The theropods Eustreptospondylus and possibly Megalosaurus are also known from the Oxford Clay Formation, but slightly younger deposits (the Middle Member). In addition, the theropod Metriacanthosaurus is from an unknown level and age in the formation. Hundreds of invertebrates are known from the marine deposits, including bivalves, gastropods, scaphopods, ammonites, teuthoids, a nautiloid, foraminifera, coelenterates, bryozoans, brachiopods, annelids, crustaceans, ostracods, cirripedes and echinoderms. Fish are known from the clades Elasmobranchii, Chimaera, and Actinopterygii, and the ichthyosaur Ophthalmosaurus, the plesiosaurs Cryptoclidus, Muraenosaurus, Tricleidus, Liopleurodon, Peloneustes, Pliosaurus and Simolestes, the crocodilians Metriorhynchus and Steneosaurus, and the pterosaur Rhamphorhynchus were all present.
Aeneas buries Misenus and he and the Sibyl prepare a sacrifice to enter the Underworld. Acanthothoraci (spine chests) is an extinct group of chimaera-like placoderms who were closely related to the rhenanid placoderms. Superficially, the acanthoracids resembled scaly chimaeras, or (relatively) heavily armored ptyctodonts. They were distinguished from chimaeras by the presence of large scales and plates, a pair of large spines that emanate from their chests (thus, the order's name), tooth-like beak plates, and the typical bone- enhanced placoderm eyeball. They were distinguished from other placoderms due to differences in the anatomy of their skulls, and due to patterns on the skull plates and thoracic plates that are unique to this order.
He acts as a supporter of Thor when he declares that he intends to become the Beast King. He says that he cannot love Chen the way she wants because he is in love with another woman from Earth -- this is most likely a lie. In the last few episodes, his true intentions surface: he was using Thor to complete a mission given to him by his commander so that he could go to Earth, but much to his dismay, on a mission to save Chimaera, he discovers that Earth had been destroyed 130 years ago. He commits suicide in order to force Thor into escaping from Hecate.
Player's Secrets of Baruk-Azhik is a supplement for the Birthright campaign setting, which focuses on the dwarven domain of Baruk- Azhik, found within the Iron Peaks. The player character is a newly-appointed Overthane, and privy to riches in the form of minerals, gemstones, and Moraskorr ore. Lying within the shadow of the Gorgon presents a constant threat to the dwarven race, as does the awnshegh known as the Chimaera settled in the Promontory province of the domain, and the rumor of another creature trapped within a north-western province. Also, the expanding orog hordes under the dwarven settlements provide a prominent danger, an army the dwarves cannot defeat.

Nigel Albon, Tommy Lee and T. Hamman won in their Porsche 911 GT3. In 2003, the race got more serious with BSA Racing entering a Radical SR3 and a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup with Wolf Henzler as its lead driver, while Amprex Motorsport entered the BMW M3 GT for Charles Kwan, Matthew Marsh and Genji Hashimoto.
The eyes of Winteria telescopa differ slightly from those of other opisthoproctids by their more forward-pointing gaze. Barreleyes, also known as spook fish (a name also applied to several species of chimaera), are small deep-sea argentiniform fish comprising the family Opisthoproctidae found in tropical-to-temperate waters of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. These fish are named because of their barrel-shaped, tubular eyes, which are generally directed upwards to detect the silhouettes of available prey; however, the fish are capable of directing their eyes forward, as well. The family name Opisthoproctidae is derived from the Greek words opisthe ("behind") and proktos ("anus").
Some ancient sources considered it to be the origin of the myth of the monster called the Chimera, because of similarities described below. Ctesias is the oldest traceable author to offer this euhemerizing theory. We know of this because of a citation by Pliny the Elder, who in his second book of Historia Naturalis identified the Chimera with the permanent gas vents in Mount Chimaera, in the country of the ancient Lycian city of Phaselis, which he described as being "on fire", adding that it "...indeed burned with a flame that does not die by day or night." Pliny was quoted by Photius and Agricola.
Some observations categorize the difference between this species and other members of its family is the absence of said fin, whilst others claim that it does have the anal fin and that it leads to the caudal fin. The name ‘Rabbit Fish’ originates from its large tooth-plates within its upper and lower jaws, giving it a rabbit like appearance. This family is also often referred to as “Rat Fish” as well due to its long tapered tail . The combination of these parts resembling a variety of animals is what gave its family the name Chimaera - representing the creature by the same name in Greek mythology that combined a multitude of beasts.
Beipiaognathus (meaning Beipiao jaw) is a dubious genus of coelurosaurian theropod from the Early Cretaceous Yixian Formation of Liaoning, China. The genus was initially assigned to the Compsognathidae based on the presence of two traits: fan-shaped dorsal neural spines and a robust I-1 phalanx on the hand. However, it also differs from other compsognathids in several ways: the teeth are unserrated and conical; the ulna is proportionally longer; the II-1 phalanx on the hand is longer and more robust; and the tail is much shorter. However, Andrea Cau has informally noted a number of points in the fossil that are indicative of it having been artificially assembled, thus rendering the specimen a phylogenetically uninformative chimaera.
The Convenors' Award for Excellence is one of the Aurealis Awards presented annually by the Australia-based Chimaera Publications and WASFF to published works in order to "recognise the achievements of Australian science fiction, fantasy, horror writers". The Convenors' Award, awarded at the discretion of the convenors, recognises "a particular achievement in speculative fiction or related areas" that cannot otherwise be judged for the Aurealis Awards, usually because it does not fit into any of the Aurealis categories. Works nominated for the Convenor's Award for Excellence can be non-fiction, artwork, film, television, electronic or multimedia work. The work can be speculative fiction, or a speculative fiction related work "which brings credit or attention to the speculative fiction genres".
A seventeen-year-old Prague art student named Karou leads an interesting life: she has blue hair that grows from her head, speaks a variety of languages, has three bullets in her stomach, and has been raised by creatures with human and animal features called chimaera. These are Brimstone, with lion legs and ram horns; Issa, with a snake's lower body, hood, and fangs; Twiga, with a giraffe neck; and Yasri, with a parrot beak. Kishmish, a crow with bat wings, acts as a messenger from Brimstone to Karou. Karou is often sent on missions to gather teeth for Brimstone, although she does not know what they are used for and why there are certain rules such as "no baby teeth" and "no rotting".
Karou: Karou is a seventeen-year-old Prague art student who speaks a variety of languages, has three bullet wounds on her stomach, and has blue hair that grows from her head. In Daughter of Smoke and Bone, she runs tasks for her foster father Brimstone by gathering the teeth of various creatures, including humans, and draws pictures of her chimaera guardians in her sketchbook. When she is in Marrakesh on a task, Akiva, a seraph, is about to kill her when he recognizes that she is truly Madrigal reborn. When Madrigal was killed, Brimstone gleaned her soul and made a new body out of a string of human baby teeth, creating the body of a human infant that he then raised as Karou.
Helga is a fashion designer whom Clover notes as an icon in the industry. In the season 1 episode, "Wild Style", she masterminds the abduction of cruise ship passengers along with her assistant where she makes a serum that transforms people into animal-like creatures in order to harvest their fur coats. When she clashes with the spy girls, she is infected by her own serum and transforms into a massive Chimaera-like monster, but is defeated and then captured. She returns in the season 2 episode "Fashion Faux Pas" where, having broken out of prison, she hatches a scheme where she creates a fashion line called Mystique whose clothing becomes popular, but in reality it will constrict its users to death when activated.
The Enrichment Center Percussion Ensemble is a musical group based at the Enrichment Center, Winston-Salem, North Carolina formed from adults with developmental disabilities and professional musicians. It was founded in 1997 by director Aaron Bachelder from members of the existing student body of the Enrichment Center, an arts-based alternative day program for adults with disabilities. In spite of its members' lack of prior musical experience, the group began performing within months, and was soon attracting the attention of many in the arts and human services communities. Before long, they had performed for thousands of people, alone and in collaboration with such groups as The African American Dance Ensemble, Chimaera Physical Theatre, and more recently, The Open Dream Ensemble.
He sets his sights on the Wayland storehouse of the late Emperor Palpatine, which contains a massive array of Spaarti cloning cylinders and a working cloaking shield. To this end, Thrawn and his subordinate Gilad Pellaeon, captain of the Star Destroyer Chimaera, enlist the help of smuggler Talon Karrde and his second-in-command Mara Jade to obtain several salamander-like creatures called ysalamiri. Thrawn uses the ysalamiri, which possess the natural ability to disrupt the Force, to subdue the storehouse's guardian Joruus C'baoth, a twisted clone of a Jedi Master whom the Grand Admiral had killed years before. C'baoth offers his allegiance in exchange for two acolytes to bend to his will: Darth Vader's twin children, Luke and Leia.
Two-colored rose chimera A genetic chimerism or chimera (/kaɪˈmɪərə/ or /kɪˈmɪərə/ , also chimaera (chimæra)) is a single organism composed of cells with more than one distinct genotype. In animals, this means an individual derived from two or more zygotes, which can include possessing blood cells of different blood types, subtle variations in form (phenotype) and, if the zygotes were of differing sexes, then even the possession of both female and male sex organs (this is just one of many different phenomena that may result in intersexuality). Animal chimeras are produced by the merger of multiple fertilized eggs. In plant chimeras, however, the distinct types of tissue may originate from the same zygote, and the difference is often due to mutation during ordinary cell division.
Pioneering work of Andrzej K. Tarkowski initiated in 1950s formed the basis not only for modern mammalian developmental biology and progress in animal breeding, but also in such techniques as assisted reproduction (in vitro fertilisation) or preimplantational diagnostics. In 1959 Tarkowski showed that a single blastomere isolated from a 2-cell stage mouse embryo is fully able to develop and the result is healthy and fertile mouse (Tarkowski, 1959, Nature). His next achievement was, reported in 1961, birth of first chimaeric mice produced experimentally by injecting blastomeres from one embryo to genetically different embryo (Tarkowski, 1961;Nature). Since then the chimaera has become a useful tool, used in producing genetically modified animals (in this technique genetically engineered stem cells are aggregated with developing embryo.
His Formula Nippon career started disastrously at Suzuka after crashing his Reynard 99L Mugen at 250 km/h at the daunting 130R in qualifying and forced Yoong to miss the race. At Motegi, a mechanical failure stalled his car at the start at Mine after starting seventh, where he went on to cause a multi-car pile-up in desperation to climb back up the field. Yoong's team manager, K. Homma told him he needs to calm down and finish races, and his father Hanifah encouraged him to take off the pressure. Yoong returned to Malaysia for the annual Merdeka Millennium Endurance sports car race at Sepang and shared a TVR Chimaera to second place with Adam Lokman and Saladin Mazlan.

The shortspine chimaera is a subtropical species, inhabiting the upper to mid continental slope on the east coast of Australia, at depths of around 450-1,080 m, although it most commonly lives in waters deeper than 1,025 m. In particular, the species is found near Tuncurry, New South Wales; sightings have been reported in other spots on the east coast, from Ulladulla to Queensland, but it is probable that these are actually a different species. It is not targeted commercially, and most fisheries trawl in waters shallower than where the species typically lives, so no conservation actions are currently taking place for the species; however, it may be a bycatch for deepwater fisheries. The exact population of the species is unknown, but is listed as least concern by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
I shall use as synonymous with it the words, unit, individual, and entity. The first two emphasize the fact that every term is one, while the third is derived from the fact that every term has being, i.e. is in some sense. A man, a moment, a number, a class, a relation, a chimaera, or anything else that can be mentioned, is sure to be a term; and to deny that such and such a thing is a term must always be false" (Russell 1903:43) Things are indicated by proper names; concepts are indicated by adjectives or verbs: "Among terms, it is possible to distinguish two kinds, which I shall call respectively things and concepts; the former are the terms indicated by proper names, the latter those indicated by all other words . . .
Cologne is usually the voice of experience and knowledge to most of the cast, a contrast to the devious master Happosai (who exclusively serves as a constant foe). She is a grand master of the Chinese Amazon martial arts, and occasionally teaches Ranma and his rivals new techniques, such as the Kachū Tenshin Amaguriken, Hiryū Shōten Ha and Bakusai Tenketsu. She is the only martial artist in the series whose skill rivals that of Happosai, enabling her to, for example, casually defeat either Ranma or Taro's chimaera form. In addition to Cologne's immense skill, she is able to manipulate water and ice, create whirlwinds by using an opponent's aura against them, shatter inanimate objects with a simple touch, fire chi- blasts, and touch pressure points to make a person feel like they are burning with even the slightest amount of heat.
He reappears in "Iron Squadron", where he orders the incompetent Admiral Konstantine to deal with rebels and rebel sympathizers in the Mykapo system; after Konstantine's ship is disabled, Thrawn arrives in his personal Star Destroyer, the Chimaera, and is revealed to have previously encountered rebel Commander Jun Sato. "An Inside Man" reveals Thrawn now in charge of the Imperial occupation of the planet Lothal, overseeing the factory where the new TIE Defender and various other pieces of equipment are manufactured. He puts an end to rebel acts of sabotage by enforcing a policy of the workers testing their creations and is also shown to be studying pieces of artwork that grant insight into each member of the Ghost crew. He also determines that there is a rebel spy within the Imperial ranks, but intends to use this to his advantage.
The TVR Speed Eight was the name of a normally aspirated V8 car engine designed and manufactured by TVR. The engine was intended to power the TVR Griffith and the TVR Chimaera but delays in its production meant that it powered only the TVR Cerbera and the TVR Tuscan Racer. The reason behind the engine's development and production was that in that particular time Rover was bought by BMW and Peter Wheeler the boss of TVR in that time, feared that BMW would drop the Rover V8 engine used in TVRs since the early 80's, so he contracted car engine designer Al Melling to design a brand-new V8 engine to power the TVR Cerbera as well as an engine that TVR could sell to other car manufacturers. The engine itself was designed by engine guru Al Melling along with John Ravenscroft and the then boss of TVR Peter Wheeler.

In antiquity the region was inhabited by the Greek tribe of the Chaonians. "Epirus was a land of milk and animal products...The social unit was a small tribe, consisting of several nomadic or semi-nomadic groups, and these tribes, of which more than seventy names are known, coalesced into large tribal coalitions, three in number: Thesprotians, Molossians and Chaonians...We know from the discovery of inscriptions that these tribes were speaking the Greek language (in a West- Greek dialect)" The town of Himarë is believed to have been founded as Χίμαιρα,An Inventory of Archaic and Classical Poleis: An Investigation Conducted by The Copenhagen Polis Centre for the Danish National Research Foundation by Mogens Herman Hansen, 2005, page 340. In July 2012, in a change from the traditional small-engined cars, but maintaining the rally's tradition of catering for a specific motoring sector from the 1950s and just after, the rally was run for Jaguar XKs (Authentic Category) and E-types (Spirit Category). Winners of the XK category were Ian Fyfe and William Fountain in a 1953 XK 120 FHC, and of the E-type category were Roger Bricknell & Dennis Greenslade in a 1969 Series II roadster. In July 2013, the rally was run for TVRs, the winners being David & Adrian Turner in a 1998 Chimaera 400. After five years' break, the event returns to celebrate its Diamond Jubilee in 2018, when it will run from July 11 to July 22 for the same microcars that competed in 1958, with an additional category for slightly later, slightly larger-engined microcars. Night halts will be - Liege - July 11 & 22; Karlsruhe - July 12; Munich - July 13; Misurina - July 14; Ljubljana - July 15 & 16; Carezza - July 17; Brescia - July 18; Marlengo - July 19; Bernried - July 20; Bretten - July 21.
At the beginning of The Revenge of Seven, Four, Sarah, Malcolm, Adam, Sam and the Chimaera (Bernie Kosar, Dust and the ones rescued from Plum Island) are hiding in an abandoned warehouse; Sarah comes across the site They Walk Among Us, her and the others read the page. The page has written positive things about the 'Loric heroes' and very negative descriptions of the Mogadorians, it is first assumed that the editor is one of the ones captured by the Mogadorians; but then Sarah finds the editor's username is 'JollyRoger182'. Sarah smiles widely and explains that it was a name used by the Paradise High School quarter-back; this suggests that Mark James is the new editor and the next few chapters will follow one from the book I Am Number Four: The Lost Files: Return To Paradise.] In United as One, he begins to be brainwashed into exposing the Loric secrets to the Mogadorians, but begins to resist it and is then killed by Phili-Dun-Ra.

In order to attract more customers, TVR offered the first batch at a discount of £16,000 plus VAT for entrants with a condition that they commit themselves to compete at least six of the twelve races in the championship. Should that fail, the purchaser would agree to pay the discounted amount at the end of the season. With the instant success of the series in its first year in 1989, plans for a road car were cancelled as TVR was busy with the 'S' and the older wedge models as well as with the design and development work for the forthcoming Griffith and Chimaera models.
The first known literary reference was in Homer's Iliad, and the epic poetry of Hesiod in the 8th century BCE also mentions the Chimera."The Chimaera of Arezzo: July 16, 2009–February 8, 2010". J.
