In 1978, Gerritsen began building a naturalistic, unregimented garden in the Netherlands, where seed heads and bare stems were left to stand through the winter, in collaboration with his partner, the photographer Anton Schlepers; he lost Schlepers to complications of AIDS in 1993, before being diagnosed himself with H.I.V. and dying in 2008.

The founders wanted the organization to be unconventional and unregimented. Its one aim would be "to foster the health, happiness, and long life of its members". In a spirit of fun, names for some of the officers were inspired by Lewis Carroll's The Hunting of the Snark. The Hoo-Hoo emblem is a black cat with its tail curled into the shape of a figure nine.

With the merger, Interstate held two national bread divisions: Butternut and Wonder Bread. The divisions had different cultures: Butternut was unregimented, with each bakery a self-contained profit center, and Wonder Bread was structured; this caused early problems. In both divisions, snack cakes were more profitable due to economy of scale and logistics. When extended-shelf-life enzymes were developed for bread, it was hoped to convert small, less-efficient bakeries into a network of large bakeries like their snack-cakes operations.

Naturalistic design features curvilinear paths, the informal planting of flowers, unregimented, borders, wild flowers, and asymmetrical forms. Jefferson first toured English gardens in 1786 and grew especially fond of the naturalistic gardens he observed, compared to the more formal Parisian gardens.

507 (Independent) LAA Bty remained unregimented under AA Command during 1943. On 4 November the battery's A, B and C troops were ordered to disband (the process being completed by 21 November). However, Battery HQ (BHQ) was mobilised on 14 November and joined 178th Heavy AA Rgt, a composite unit comprising both heavy and light AA batteries serving in the garrison of the Faroe Islands. On 24 January 1944 BHQ took command of 563 LAA Trp (as A Trp) and C Trp of 205 LAA Bty (as B Trp). However, 178th HAA Rgt returned to Kilmarnock in Scotland on 19 March and was disbanded on 17 May, including B Troop of 507 LAA Bty.

Its headquarters are located at Hodo-in temple Toshima, Tokyo, Japan, and it maintains a chapter at each local temple. Hokkekō groups tend to be organized fairly loosely and are generally unregimented. Whereas some members are very active in temple-based propagation and other activities, others come only for a monthly service called o-kō (or, more formally, , "meeting to show gratitude to the Buddha"), the annual Oeshiki ceremony on the anniversary of Nichiren Daishonin's passing, and other temple events. Though Nichiren Shoshu still considered individual Soka Gakkai members to be lay followers until a rule change in September 1997, most members mistakenly believed that they had been excommunicated along with the Soka Gakkai organization and its executive leaders.

The Virginian provincial troops who participated in the Braddock Expedition of 1755 and suffered defeat at the Battle of the Monongahela were unregimented: at the behest of General Braddock, they had been organized into two companies of carpenters, six companies of rangers, and one troop of mounted rangers, about 450 men in all. The remaining 350 men from the original ten companies of the Virginia Regiment had been allocated to the two regular regiments of the expedition.Eckenrode 1913, pp. 6-7.Nichols 1947, pp. 130-131. After Braddock's defeat, the Virginia Regiment was immediately reformed, with the Assembly voting in 1755 to increase its size again, to 1,500 men organized in 16 companies. The actual strength of the Regiment in 1756 was 1,400 men, but in 1757 it was reduced to 1,000 men.

In 1949, he recommended that the American Medical Association (AMA) and the American Dental Association (ADA) consider endorsing a plan for the federal government to offer health insurance policies with low deductibles to cover "medical, surgical, hospital, laboratory, nursing and dental services."
