Gun played three gigs in December 2011, The Twa Tam's in Perth and King Tuts Wah Wah Hut, Glasgow, giving fans a taster of the new album (due out in 2012) with their new tracks "Last Train to Central" and "14 Stations".
He was a pivotal link between early New Orleans piano pioneers such as Tuts Washington and later names such as Fats Domino, Art Neville, Allen Toussaint and Dr. John. His 1950 single "Bald Head" hit No. 5 on the R&B; charts, and became his only national hit. The song's lyrics advise anyone wishing to visit New Orleans to go to the Mardi Gras celebration and witness its various sights, such as to "see the Zulu King on Saint Claude and Dumaine." In 1959, at time of the recording, the Zulu parade, hosted by the Zulu Social Aid & Pleasure Club, took an improvised route each year on the day of Mardi Gras, which would often pass this street intersection.
A dispute arose between the band and management of the Undercover Festival in 2016, following clashes between security staff and band members, during the performance of the headline act The Selecter. In January 2019, The Tuts claimed to have turned down the opportunity to represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 due to it being held in Israel. The band was not mentioned in the shortlist for the preliminary contest for UK entry, Eurovision: You Decide, which preceded the competition in February. In July 2019, it emerged that Javed is one of several musicians being sued by the singer/rapper Jonny "Itch" Fox, seeking aggravated damages and an injunction for alleged libel.
In 1974 he appeared on the PBS series Soundstage (with Dr. John, Earl King, and The Meters). In 1980 he co-starred (with Tuts Washington and Allen Toussaint) in the film documentary Piano Players Rarely Ever Play Together which was produced and directed by filmmaker Stevenson Palfi. That documentary (which aired on public television in 1982 and was rarely seen since), plus a long interview with Fess (which was recorded two days before his sudden death), were included in the 2018 released project "Fess Up"."Fess Up" - Information, excerpts and reviews from the film maker's website Professor Longhair died in his sleep of a heart attack while the filming of the documentary was under way (and before the live concert, which was planned to be its climax).
In May and June 2017, The Tuts embarked on their own "Give Us Something Worth Voting For" tour, with reference to the impending UK general election and their eponymous anti- Conservative album track. Later the same year the band collaborated with Girli on a new version of the song "Mr 10pm Bedtime", previously released on her Hot Mess EP. Javed and the band received TV coverage as part of the ITV series Young British and Muslim in April 2018. In June 2016, during their appearance at the Glastonwick festival (where The King Blues were also playing), The Tuts addressed allegations against Itch, dedicating their final song to "all the women who have been mentally or physically abused by Itch from the King blues". Immediately after the festival they uploaded a video to their YouTube channel, along with the full text of their speech. In March 2017, Itch released a statement addressing multiple online reports of assault and abuse of women, including several former partners. Itch stated that while he was "no angel", he was the victim of an "organised smear campaign" and that three former partners of his had sent a text to him before this began, with a picture of them smiling together stating they were going to "take me down".
The band have performed with, and for, various artists and organisations of the broad Left including Attila the Stockbroker, Robb Johnson, Chris T-T, Grace Petrie, Colour Me Wednesday, The Tuts, Billy Bragg, TV Smith, The Hurriers, Mark Steel, Josie Long, the SWP, the Welsh Communist Party and the Jeremy Corbyn Labour Party leadership campaign. The band appear to be unaligned with any particular organisation or tradition but are noted for promoting ideas associated with guild socialism, democratic socialism, classical Marxism and left communism, while supporting a range of left-wing and trade union causes. Notwithstanding the band's use of Ostalgic tropes and apparent (possibly parodic) anti-revisionism, in a 2013 interview they declared themselves "libertarian socialists of one kind or another". Thee Faction have however attracted criticism for their political views; notably, a 2012 gig review by Ruth Dudley Edwards for The Daily Telegraph angered the newspaper's Conservative readership.
