The early part of the tune to "The Gonk" was used in "The Ladies' Bras", a track by Jonny Trunk and Wisbey which, at only 36 seconds long, became the shortest ever UK top 40 single when it made number 27 on 30 September 2007. The ability to produce clucks is due to a specialized fibrous mass attached to the frog's vocal folds, creating an unusual vocalization similar to the two-voiced songs found in some birds. In the common toad, sexual competition is driven in large part by fighting—successful males often physically displaced other males from the backs of a female in order to gain access to mating with that female. Characters' names like Bessy O'Messy and Serena Slurp implied their personalities: Bessy was untidy, whereas Serena was rude and greedy because slurping is considered bad table manners. Johnny Bullneck is described as "short-haired, flat-footed, white-fleshed and pudgy" but "bull neck" describes a thick neck, which is possibly what he had also. The locations in "The Dumb Clucks" relate to the intelligence of the family: they live in the Dork village full of other Dorks, in the land of Stargazy Pie (a Cornish desert) located between two mountain peaks, Feak and Weeble (a spoonerism for "weak and feeble").
