(The position of Vice-Chancellor at the Scottish universities is not analogous to that in England; see Chancellor of the University of Glasgow.) The Rector wears a gown of "black cloth, with square collar and full-length capelike sleeves: five gold bands on each sleeve".

The pack was founded in 1891 following a chance meeting between Dawson Jowett and Tom Clark, the former becoming the huntsman and the latter the kennelman. The pair are believed to have made use of hounds from the Bradford Harriers which was disbanded several years earlier. The pack was trencher fed until 1922 when kennels and a huntsman’s house was built in Eldwick, the pack is now kennelled in Silsden. Since the passing of the Hunting Act of 2004, the pack hunts scent trails and rabbits and is very occasionally called to locate hares that have been injured following a shoot, all of which is permitted under the legislation.

Trencher salt by Bartholomew Le Roux, between 1690 and 1710, in the Metropolitan Museum of Art Bartholomew Le Roux (1663 – August 1713) was an early American silversmith, active in New York City. Le Roux was born in Amsterdam, the son of Pierre Le Roux, a goldsmith and son of Huguenot exiles. Pierre emigrated to London in 1680, became a naturalized citizen in 1682, and the family followed in 1683. Le Roux himself landed in New York City sometime before 1687, and worked thereafter as a silversmith and goldsmith in New York City, with his shop and residence on the west side of Broadway at Beaver Lane (now Morris Street).

Late Roman spoons, Hoxne Hoard, England Elites in most ancient cultures preferred to eat off precious metals ("plate") at the table; China and Japan were two major exceptions, using lacquerware and later fine pottery, especially porcelain. In Europe the elites dined off metal, usually silver for the rich and pewter or latten for the middling classes, from the ancient Greeks and Romans until the 18th century. Another alternative was the trencher, a large flat piece of either bread or wood. In the Middle Ages this was a common way of serving food, the bread also being eaten; even in elite dining it was not fully replaced in France until the 1650s.

He has worked on titles owned by several different companies including Woodgod, All Star Comics, Drax the Destroyer, Heckler, Nick Fury's Howling Commandos, Reign of the Zodiac, Suicide Squad, Trencher, T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents, and Vext. He was responsible for the English adaptation of the Battle Royale and Ikki Tousen manga, as well as creating "I Luv Halloween" for Tokyopop. He worked for Dark Horse from 1994 to 1995 on their Comics Greatest World/Dark Horse Heroes line, as the writer of two short lived series, Division 13 and co-author, with Lovern Kindzierski, of Agents of Law. For Valiant Comics, Giffen wrote X-O Manowar, Magnus, Robot Fighter, Punx and the final issue of Solar, Man of the Atom.

It was his work on the Legion that rocketed him to comic book artist fame and gave him a creative control with the national companies that few artists achieved. He peppered his artwork with in-jokes such as upside down Superman logos, hidden Marvel characters, eyeball creatures, and scrawled humorous messages on signs in the background of his panels in the alternate futuristic alphabet Interlac. As Giffen's style loosened up, he found himself drawn to the work of José Muñoz (see Controversy). Soon thereafter he developed a scratchier, more impressionistic style, using a highly stylized method of drawing directly with ink, on titles such as Trencher, Lobo Infanticide and Images Of Shadowhawk.

This was documented in the physician's account book on 27 August 1456: "while I was treating Donato called Donatello, the singular and principal master in making figures of bronze of wood and terracotta... he of his kindness and in consideration of the medical treatment which I had given and was giving for his illness gave me a roundel the size of a trencher in which was sculpted the Virgin Mary with the Child at her neck and two angels on each side." The reverse of the roundel is hollowed out, creating a mould for casting replicas of the image in molten glass. In order to test out this unique feature, copies of the roundel were made from which glass versions were cast.

The fable of the bear and the bees by Jan van Kessel, oil on copper, 1672 A different moral reading of the fable occurs in another Emblem book, Eduard de Dene's De Warachtighe Fabulen der Dieren (true animal fables, 1567). The illustration there of "The Bear and the Honey-bees" by Marcus Gheeraerts the Elder was eventually used for a trencher in England with a translation of the moral about the rim: “The bees do feircely sting the Beare/ While he their hony Hives do tear/ So some that Pleasure seek in Haste/ With sower Sawce their Sweet do taste.”British Museum It is not the bear's angry response that is emphasised in De Clerck's version of the fable but its despotic greed. English and French writers adopted this interpretation in different ways.

Sisson (London: Everyman 1998) p. > 183 This episode is alluded to in Allen Tate's poem "The Mediterranean", although Tate calls them "plates". The Middle Ages, Everyday Life in Medieval Europe by Jeffrey L. Singman (Sterling publishers) offers the following observation: "The place setting also included a trencher, a round slice of bread from the bottom or the top of an old loaf, having a hard crust and serving as a plate.

During the same year, the first Ditch Witch international office opened in Australia. Meanwhile, the DWP led to the creation of the compact trencher industry, which today produces all types of equipment for efficiently installing any type of underground utilities including water, sewer and gas lines, as well as telecommunications, CATV, and fiber-optic cables. By 1969, customers included utility, telephone, and cable television companies, government agencies, and general contractors. In March 1622 the treasurer, the Earl of Mar delivered the silver plate in his keeping to Auchmoutie.
