They are most commonly found in the mountains of western North America where a deep snowpack accumulates during the winter and slowly melts through the spring and summer, often shaded by coniferous forest. They may be saprotrophic, mycorrhizal, or in the case of Caloscypha fulgens, pathogenic.

Fruit bodies of Tricholoma vernaticum grow singly or in groups under conifers in late spring and early summer. A fairly common species throughout its range, it is found at high elevations in California north to Oregon and Washington. It is a snowbank fungus, meaning it is commonly found at the edge of melting snowbanks. Fruit bodies are often buried under humus, forming hardly visible "mushrumps", apparent only as cracked bumps on the ground.

De La Hoya did not fight for the 15 months and in this time the rivalry between him and WBA champion "Ferocious" Fernando Vargas (22–1) grew. They knew each other as amateurs and it is said the rivalry began when Vargas was angered by De La Hoya laughing at him after he fell into a snowbank. De La Hoya said he would never fight him. Founded in 1881, NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital was the first Methodist hospital in the country. The original Romanesque Revival-style building was replaced in the 1930s. On December 16, 1960, a mid-air collision over Staten Island left 134 people dead; one of the two aircraft that had collided crashed in Park Slope in Brooklyn. The only initial survivor, Stephen Baltz, an 11-year-old boy from Illinois, was thrown from that aircraft onto a snowbank.

He was soon contacted by O'Banion, who agreed to help him. He told Duffy to meet him at the Four Deuces, a South Wabash club run by the Torrio-Capone organization. On February 5, 2008, a Swearingen SA-226AT Merlin IV Aircraft operated by McNeely Charter Service was involved in an incident. Found in the US states of Idaho, Washington, and Wyoming, it is abundant in some high-elevation locations in the Rocky Mountains. It is referred to as a "snowbank mushroom" because fruit bodies typically appear around the edges of melting snowbanks. Fruitings occur most frequently in June and early July, about the same time as snowmelt at the elevations in which the species occurs.

Pholiota nubigena fruits singly, in groups, or in small clusters on rotting conifer wood, especially fir and lodgepole pine. Fruiting in spring and early summer, it is a snowbank fungus, meaning it is often found near melting snow or soon after the snow has disappeared. In the United States, it is common in the Sierra Nevada and the Cascade Mountains, and usually found in elevations ranging from . The fungus has been collected from the US states of California, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.

The storm played havoc with travel home from work and school. "Thousands were stranded in offices, in schools, in buses. The white blackberry is an unusual white variety of blackberry developed by plant breeder Luther Burbank,Luther Burbank also known as the iceberg white blackberry or snowbank berry, probably originating as a pun on the name "Burbank". He originally found a wild pale coloured blackberry in New Jersey, named 'Crystal White'. He then mixed that berry with the Lawton blackberry, and then other pale berries. Mycena overholtsii, commonly known as the snowbank fairy helmet or fuzzy foot, is a species of fungus in the family Mycenaceae. The mushrooms produced by the fungus are relatively large for the genus Mycena, with convex grayish caps up to in diameter and stems up to long. The gills on the underside of the cap are whitish to pale gray, and initially closely spaced before becoming well-spaced at maturity after the cap enlarges. The mushrooms are characterized by the dense covering of white "hairs" on the base of the stem.

Plectania nannfeldtii, commonly known as Nannfeldt's Plectania, the black felt cup, or the black snowbank cup fungus, is a species of fungus in the family Sarcosomataceae. The fruit bodies of this species resemble small, black, goblet-shaped shallow cups up to wide, with stems up to long attached to black mycelia. Fruit bodies, which may appear alone or in groups on the ground in conifer duff, are usually attached to buried woody debris, and are commonly associated with melting snow. Plectania nannfeldtii is found in western North America and in Asia, often at higher elevations.

Robert "LaVoy" Finicum FBI surveillance footage shows Robert "LaVoy" Finicum's truck being pursued by police vehicles on U.S. Route 395. In this one-minute excerpt, Finicum encounters a police roadblock and drives into a roadside snowbank. Finicum immediately walks away from his truck, and an OSP officer with a Taser approaches from his right, while OSP officers and FBI agents with rifles position themselves to his left. Lednia is a monotypic genus, containing the single species Lednia tumana (the meltwater stonefly)--a rare, alpine, aquatic insect that is endangered due to likely loss of glaciers and snowpacks in the Glacier National Park and other habitat in the Rocky Mountains due to climate change. The insect lives in the coldest streams just downstream of the glacier or snowbank sources and is considered as an early warning indicator species of climate warming in mountain ecosystems. The Fisheries and Wildlife Service is being petitioned to protect the species under the U.S..Endangered Species Act.

While the friends were in Saskatoon, a 20-year-old nursing student, Gail Miller, was found dead on a snowbank. Additionally, all roads, trails and lands off of Highway 200 are closed.

In March 1979, the United States Air Force Security Service (USAFSS) activated the 6949th Security Squadron at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska. The squadron provided intelligence information to Strategic Air Command. When USAFSS became Electronic Security Command, the squadron became the 6949th Electronic Security Squadron. In January 1980, the 6949th was expanded to a group and assigned the 6985th Electronic Security Squadron as a subordinate unit. Members of the 6985th flew aboard Cobra Ball RC-135 aircraft, collecting information on Soviet missile launches. On 15 March 1981, the Cobra Ball II aircraft crashed into a snowbank while attempting to land at Shemya Air Force Base, Alaska.

While driving through a snowstorm, Paul accidentally hits Stephen King with his car, causing Paul to swerve off the road and crash into a snowbank. Paul is knocked unconscious in his car, while King, thrown aside by the impact, manages to conceive and write an entire novel in midair before hitting the ground completely unscathed. Paul is rescued by Stewie Wilkes (Stewie), Paul's self-proclaimed number-one fan, who takes the injured Paul to his/her remote cabin.

Plectania nannfeldtii is typically found at higher elevations in coniferous forests growing on wet twigs or other rotting woody debris, often in or near snow.
