Scott Fitzgerald's Amory Blaine, protagonist in This Side of Paradise, published in 1920, states plainly, "I want to go to Princeton...I don't know why, but I think of all Harvard men as sissies, like I used to be, and all Yale men as wearing big blue sweaters and smoking pipes." Harvard and Princeton ceased the football series for nearly a decade, 1926 – 1934, in part because of an over the top Harvard Lampoon spoof issue of The Harvard Crimson distributed during the 1926 contest that announced the death of Princeton's head coach, Bill Roper, a man who had a history of serious illness. Roper, who coached Princeton's Team of Destiny,Princeton Football, Arcadia Press, Mount Pleasant, SC, by Mark F. Bernstein, 2009, pg. 50 is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.

He followed his debut album with The Gospel According To Levi, confronting religion and its unhealthy views on sexuality, specifically as it relates to the LGBT community and conversion therapy (Levi did six years with Exodus International.) Levi's early music articulated the growing pains of young gay men and their relationships when it was still not a widely embraced topic of conversation. In 2009, Levi won the OutMusic Award for his song "Stained Glass Window", a song inspired by the Del Shores play Southern Baptist Sissies. In addition to Levi's early musical activism, his compositions have been featured on Days Of Our Lives, Young And The Restless, The Vampire Diaries, Sons of Anarchy, So You Think You Can Dance, Mob Wives, and films The War Room and Kiss The Bride. He has released nine albums to date.

While Bas identifies himself as a painter, he has also experimented with other mediums such as film and also photography. He has built himself a dark room in the basement of his studio to continue experimenting with photography. Bas' first solo exhibition in a commercial art gallery took place in 2001 at Fredric Snitzer Gallery called Hernan’s Merit & the Nouveau Sissies'. In 2004, Bas' artwork was displayed at the 2004 Whitney Biennial at the Whitney Museum in New York City. One year later, in 2005, Bas participated in two more group exhibits, The Triumph of Painting: Part III, at the Saatchi Gallery in London, England and in New Worlds - New Romanticism in Contemporary Art, at Schirn Kuntshalle, in Frankfurt, Germany. Also in 2005, Bas earned a fellowship to Giverny, France, where he got to paint on Claude Monet's estate. In 2007, Bas had a major presentation at the Rubell Family Collection in Miami, which travelled to the Brooklyn Art Museum in 2008. In 2009, Bas participated in the group exhibit "the Collectors," curated by Elmgreen & Dragset for the Nordic and Danish Pavilions at the 53rd Venice Biennale.

The return of football was not universally embraced by the student body, and in the inaugural season, 200 students protested in the middle of Stagg Field, which delayed the game and resulted in four arrests.Marooned!; After a 30-year hiatus, varsity football returned to the University of Chicago in the 1970s—sort of, Chicago Magazine, October 2006. Later in the decade, however, 1,100 students petitioned the administration for the promotion of Chicago football to the varsity level.
