Phyllis Stephens (Mabel Albertson) is Darrin's strait-laced mother who visits occasionally but never learns of Samantha's supernatural powers. Phyllis makes inopportune surprise visits (which often cause Samantha to use magic to clean up the house quickly). Phyllis often becomes discombobulated and complains of "a sick headache" after accidentally witnessing something inexplicable. She and Endora do not get along, as Endora often displays contempt for her mortal counterpart.

She has a seemingly inexhaustible correspondence, and spends much of her time in her room writing letters, when she is not nursing a sick headache. She has a Persian cat named Muriel and a maid called Chester. She appears in Something Fresh, but by the time of Leave it to Psmith has been replaced as chatelaine by her sister Connie.

Albertson was best known for her role as Phyllis Stephens, Darrin's neurotic, interfering mother, on the television sitcom Bewitched, who invariably ended her stays at the Stephens' home by saying to her husband, "Frank, take me home. I have a sick headache." During 1972-1973, she played Mabel, the mother-in-law of Paul Lynde on The Paul Lynde Show. She appeared in at least one episode of the courtroom drama series Perry Mason: as Carrie Wilson in the season 6, 1962 episode titled "The Case of the Hateful Hero".

Ertapenem (trade name Invanz) is a carbapenem antibiotic medication for the treatment of infections of the abdomen, the lungs, the upper part of the female reproductive system, and diabetic foot, used in the form of infusions or injections. The most common side effects include diarrhoea, nausea (feeling sick), headache, and problems around the area where the medicine is infused. It can significantly reduce the concentrations of valproic acid, an anti- seizure medication, in the blood to the point where it loses its effectiveness. The drug has been available in the US since 2001 and in Europe since 2002.
