Other collaborators, such as Drew McDowall and Danny Hyde, would frequently record with the band, some becoming members for a time. By the time Coil arrived at Nothing Records, they had released three studio albums. Scatology and Horse Rotorvator were released on Force & Form, which was manufactured and distributed by K.422, a sister label of Some Bizzare Records.

Ian Gibson, in The Erotomaniac speculates that My Secret Life was really written by Henry Spencer Ashbee and therefore it is possible that "Walter" is a fiction. A famous German erotic work of this time, published in two parts in 1868 and 1875 entitled Pauline the Prima Donna purports to be the memoirs of the opera singer Wilhelmine Schröder-Devrient. Various discrepancies with known facts of the singer's life, however, have led many to doubt the veracity of this book and the erotic adventures contained in the second volume, at least, appear to be very implausible. These include the author indulging in lesbian sadomasochism, group sex, sodomy, bestiality, scatology, necrophilia, prostitution and vampirism: all before she had reached the age of 27.Clifford J. 1971's Histoire de Melody Nelson, a first- person concept album depicting the meeting and eventual seduction of doomed English teenager Melody Nelson, was Gainsbourg's first major success in the LP market and helped form his reputation as a controversial figure. Not one to shy away from controversy, Gainsbourg had formed the nucleus of what would become Vu de l'extérieur when he suffered a heart attack at the age of 45. By the time he was back to health, he resumed composing the songs for the new album, among them one of his biggest hits, "Je suis venu te dire que je m'en vais". While not quite a concept album, especially when compared to other Gainsbourg albums such as Histoire de Melody Nelson, Rock Around the Bunker and L'Homme à tête de chou, certain thematic elements–such as scatology and childishness–do run through the album.

Frustrated by the close censorship of Japanese adult videos under the Nihon Ethics of Video Association (NEVA), also known as "Viderin", the voluntary ethics group which regulated most of the AV companies in the 1980s and 1990s, Toyoda started up his own company using the label in 1996. The company, , located in Tokyo's Shibuya ward, was founded in April 1996 and "King of Realism" (the Japanese name also means "King Lear") began issuing videos in August 1996. In the years following other labels were also created including in September 1997, in July 1998, and "GOLD" in April 2000, in November 2000, "D's" in January 2001 and "SILVIA" in October 2002. The company issued about a dozen new videos per month including installments in such popular series as "Eromesu" (凌辱エロメス), "Royal Anal Kingdom" (名門アナル王国) and the scatology series "Exodus Gold" (エクソダス ゴールド).
