Haban argued against nearly all forms of gun control, and specifically opposed a bill that would have made it illegal to own inexpensive guns, commonly known as saturday night special.

Titled Being John Lennon, the book is a humorous account of life on the road in The Beatles' tribute "Sgt. Pepper's Only Dart Board Band", written by the group's founder, Martin Dimery. In 2003, Mandonna, an all-male tribute to Madonna, was formed in response to the rise of all- female tribute acts such as The Iron Maidens, Lez Zeppelin and AC/DShe. In 2005, original Lynyrd Skynyrd members Ed King (co-author of "Sweet Home Alabama"), drummers Artimus Pyle and Bob Burns, and "Honkettes" Leslie Hawkins and JoJo Billingsley all played with The Saturday Night Special Band, a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute from New York.

On 22 February, Terry and Jessie Godderz defeated Jason Wayne and Shiloh Jonze for the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship. The team's reign ended on 7 April, when Godderz and Rudy Switchblade, who was also recognised as part of the champions under "The Family Rule", were defeated by Anarquia and Raul LaMotta. After supposedly defeating stablemate Mohamad Ali Vaez on 21 April in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the OVW Television Championship, and losing the title back to him four days later, Terry defeated Johnny Spade on 12 May at OVW's Saturday Night Special event to win the OVW Heavyweight Championship. Terry was stripped of the title on 27 June.

At a press conference to announce the study's results, multiple real guns like those involved in the accidental deaths were placed next to toy lookalikes; few of the reporters in attendance could tell them apart. His research on Saturday night special handguns, especially a 1994 study he published entitled "Ring of Fire", has been credited as the main reason for the California government's efforts to impose strict regulations on them. In 2017 he has published a study showing that gun owners with an alcohol-related criminal conviction are more likely than gun owners without such a conviction to be arrested for a subsequent gun-related crime.

Its lyrics refer to the cheap handguns popularly associated with the term Saturday night special, and associates them with impulsive violence. Each of the three verses presents a different example: a man being shot by a home intruder, or shooting a cheating man in bed with his wife; a poker player killing his friend after accusing him of cheating, and accidentally shooting oneself while intoxicated. Notably, it argues that they "[a]in't good for nothin' / But put a man six feet in a hole." Ronnie Van Zant once said in a radio interview that "we should sink them all to the bottom of the sea" (in reference to guns).

She has occasionally used other weapons, including a Glock 19 and an RG14 "Saturday night special" revolver when she was completely devoid of other weapons, and she is an expert shot with any firearm she has been shown using. While Irene is her actual name, she chose the alias "Rally (or rather, Larry)" as a pseudonym and cover name to not clarify her gender and demoralize her clients. It was not clear from the Japanese whether Rally's name is intended to be "Irene" or "Eileen" but the official English translation uses Irene. In several European editions of the manga, most notably in the Italian one, it is "Aileen".

In March 2009, Marlin participated in and won the Saturday Night Special, a charity event at Bristol Motor Speedway which included NASCAR Legends. He led the entire event in a car painted similar to the one he drove with Morgan McClure Motorsports, and wearing an older-style Coors Light uniform from his days while driving for Chip Ganassi. No. 09 Cup racecar in 2008 For the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Marlin continued to run a limited schedule in the No. 09 Phoenix Racing Miccosukee Resort & Gaming Chevrolet. His best finish for the 2009 season was 35th at Martinsville, which also proved the last of his 748 career starts.

Terrell made her in-ring debut on the November 17 episode of OVW, where she defeated Heidi Lovelace with Hendrix as special guest referee to win the OVW Women's Championship. On the November 24 episode of OVW, Terrell defeated Scarlett Bordeaux in a non-title match, but was attacked by Hendrix post-match. On the November 28 episode OVW, Terrell attacked Hendrix during a in-ring segment, but was stopped by Bostic. OVW announced that Terrell issued a challenged to Hendrix at OVW's Saturday Night Special with the OVW Women's Championship on the line, with the stipulation that the loser will swim in a pool of "animal feces".

Jessie would trade victories with Shay over the next couple of weeks. On the July 2 edition of OVW's Saturday Night Special, The Smothers Twisted Daughters defeated Shay and the reigning Women's Champion Lady JoJo after Izza Belle pinned JoJo. On the July 20 edition of OVW episode 622, Jessie teamed up with Randy Terrez to defeat Adam Revolver and Epiphany in a mixed tag team match. On the August 3 edition of OVW episode 624, The Smoothers Twisted Daughters teamed up with The Blossom Twins to defeat C. J. Lane, Epiphany, Solo Darling and Taryn Shay in an 8 divas-tag-team match.

On August 6 at OVW's Saturday Night Special, Jessie accompanied Izza Belle Smothers where she defeated Lady JoJo with Taryn Shay to win the OVW Women's Championship for the first time. On the August 10 edition of OVW episode 624, The Smothers Twisted Daughters competed against The Blossom Twins, in a winning effort. On the August 31 edition of OVW episode 628, Jessie teamed up with Tracy Smothers to defeat C. J. Lane and Mysterie in dark match. On the September 14 edition of OVW episode 630, Jessie teamed up with The Blossom Twins in a losing effort to C.J. Lane, Epiphany and Solo Darling in dark match.

During the next few weeks, a masked man would come in the ring and attack all female wrestlers in OVW during their matches, who would be revealed as Randy Royal on March 1 at OVW's Saturday Night Special, where Belle defeated Tapa and won the OVW Women's Championship for a second time. After the match, Belle would pay Royal for attacking all of the females in the locker room, turning heel for the first time in OVW. She lost the title to Tapa on April 6. After trading victories with Mary Elizabeth Monroe and Rebel, she left the company for the second time, and returned in mid–2015.

On September 11, 2013, Burke returned to Ohio Valley Wrestling and defeated Flash Flanagan to win the Television Championship. After defeating Flanagan to retain the OVW Television Championship in a rematch the following week, Burke successfully defended his title twice against Raul LaMotta and Rockstar Spud before losing the title to Shiloh Jonze on October 5 at the OVW Saturday Night Special. On October 9, 2013, Burke teamed with Eddie Diamond to defeat The Marauders (Joe Coleman & Shiloh Jonze), then made a challenged to Jonze for a title rematch. On October 16, Burke faced Shiloh Jonze in a Steel Cage match for the Television Championship but was unsuccessful.

Lyman Woodard (March 3, 1942 - February 25, 2009) was a Detroit-based jazz organist noted for fusing his music with Latin and Afro-Cuban-inspired rhythms. From the late 1960s, Woodard recorded with a number of Motown acts, and served as musical director for Martha and the Vandellas. But releases – such as his 1975 Saturday Night Special – and the legacy of his namesake outfit, the Lyman Woodard Organization, helped define Motor City's lesser- known jazz-funk heritage. Before establishing the Lyman Woodard Organization, he comprised a jazz trio with drummer Melvin Davis and guitarist Dennis Coffey; the ensemble made its reputation playing numerous shows at a nightclub called Cobb's Corner.

The following weeks, Hendrix started a rivalry with Josette Bynum, formerly known as Lady JoJo, once again after Bynum pinned Lovelace in a non–title match earning a future championship match. The two divas teamed up in a tag team match against The Blossom Twins on the October 18 edition of episode 687, but lost the match because of miscommunication. Hendrix in 2011 Hendrix got her rematch clause at OVW's Saturday Night Special during a triple threat match against Bynum and Lovelace, but lost the match after Heidi Lovelace pinned her to retain. On the November 8 edition of OVW episode 690, Hendrix interrupted Taryn Terrell during an interview and provoked her, only to get attacked for her troubles.

On the January 4, 2012 episode of OVW, Epiphany defeated C.J. Lane. Epiphany also pinned Taeler Hendrix on the February 15 episode of OVW during a dark match. Epiphany then won a three-way match against both Lane and Hendrix. On the April 18 episode of OVW, Epiphany teamed with Randy Royal against Taeler Hendrix and Dylan Bostic in a winning effort, earning a championship match against Hendrix. The following week at the April 25 episode of OVW, Hendrix defeated Epiphany to retain the Women's Championship. On May 12 at OVW's Saturday Night Special event, Epiphany and Royal defeated Blair Alexxis and Paredyse and Taeler Hendrix and Dylan Bostic in a three-way tag team match.

The band referred to this unique new setup with King as the "Three Guitar Army".If I Leave Here Tomorrow: A Film About Lynyrd Skynyrd, Passion Pictures, Directed by Stephen Kijak, 2018 King's guitar playing and songwriting skills were an essential element of Lynyrd Skynyrd's first three albums: (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd), Second Helping and Nuthin' Fancy. King co-wrote one of the band's most recognizable hits "Sweet Home Alabama", and his voice counted the "one, two, three", before he launched into his famous riff to start the song. Other songs that King wrote or co-wrote for Lynyrd Skynyrd include "Poison Whiskey", "Saturday Night Special", "Whiskey Rock-a-Roller" and "Workin' for MCA".

Tapa debuted in TNA's developmental territory, Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), on 22 May 2013, defeating Hannah Blossom in a dark match. Tapa made her debut at 15 June episode of OVW TV, defeating Jessie Belle. On 22 June episode of OVW TV, Tapa defeated Heidi Lovelace after once again executing her spinning diamond cutter. Tapa faced off against Holly Blossom on the edition of 3 July of OVW episode 724, which ended in a no-contest, following Epiphany came to ringside and pulled down the hood on one of the cameramen to reveal Eddie Diamond which Epiphany believed Tapa was his secret girlfriend that would set up a singles match at the Saturday Night Special, winning Tapa the match.

Tapa defeated The Bodyguy after interference from The Assassin to win the Women's Championship for a second time. Tapa would also make an appearance in the Nightmare Scramble match on 25 January episode of OVW and become the first woman to ever compete, but she was attacked by a masked man, who would be revealed as Randy Royal on 1 March at OVW's Saturday Night Special, where Tapa lost the Women's Championship to Jessie Belle, and after the match Belle would pay Royal for attacking all of the females in the locker room. Tapa would have the championship vacated from her on 1 November 2014 due to OVW discontinuing with their women's division at the time.

"Saturday Night Special" is on the soundtrack of the 1978 movie Blue Collar, starring Richard Pryor, Yaphet Kotto and Harvey Keitel. The song is featured in a Season 2 episode of the American television show Supernatural titled "What Is and What Should Never Be." The song is also featured in the scenes involving the police in both the original The Longest Yard from 1974 and the remake from 2005. The appearance in the original film is notable since it was added to the film just after being recorded and nine months before the single was released. The song is played in Season 3 episode 5 of The Walking Dead, during the staged fight scene.

On November 4, 2012, Terrell made her debut for Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA)'s then-developmental branch, at OVW's Saturday Night Special event, being introduced as the special guest referee for the OVW Women's Championship match between Josette Bynum, Taeler Hendrix, and Heidi Lovelace. During the match, Terrell ignited a feud with Hendrix after Terrell cost Hendrix the match, after she put her hands on Terrell. On the November 10 episode of OVW, Terrell was interrupted by Hendrix during an interview, who then provoked Terrell, only to get attacked in return. Later that event, Terrell refereed a tag team match between Lovelace, Jessie Belle against Hendrix and Epiphany.

A live album of the performance was released in July 1996, debuting at number three on the Billboard 200, and was accompanied by a home video release, both of which received platinum certification by the RIAA. Following the Unplugged concert, Alice in Chains performed "Again" on the TV show Saturday Night Special on April 20, 1996. The band also made an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman on May 10, 1996, performing the songs "Again" and "We Die Young". Alice in Chains performed four shows supporting the reunited original Kiss lineup on their 1996/97 Alive/Worldwide Tour, including the final live appearance of Layne Staley on July 3, 1996, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Van Zant and Collins both felt that the band was seriously missing the three-guitar attack that had been one of its early hallmarks. Skynyrd auditioned several guitarists, including such high-profile names as Leslie West, but its search continued until Cassie Gaines began touting the guitar and songwriting prowess of her younger brother, Steve. A crowd of 120,000 fans at Knebworth House in 1976 Then Steve Gaines, who led his own band, Crawdad (which occasionally would perform Skynyrd's "Saturday Night Special" in their set), was invited to audition onstage with Skynyrd at a concert in Kansas City on May 11, 1976. Liking what they heard, the group jammed informally with the Oklahoma native several times, then invited him into the group in June.

Speight released debut album as a Country band "Dick Jr. & The Volunteers" called The Dance and How To Do It (2019) produced by Jason Manns. Speight is a beloved guest performer at Saturday Night Special concerts by the indie rock band Louden Swain, held all over North America averaging a dozen shows a year. Along with the cast of Supernatural, a live recording album of the same name was released by Louden Swain in 2017. The album made several music charts - Billboard chart peaked at #1 on Heatseekers West North Central, #13 on Heatseekers, and #40 on Independent Albums, and iTunes highest ranking at #78 in the U.S. ; He is also a contributor to album Sky Alive by the same band.

On the June 27 episode of OVW, Ken Wayne (member of the Board of Directors) vacated all of the championships in the promotion, leaving Epiphany's reign at 25 days. This led to a match between Epiphany and Hendrix for the vacant championship on July 7 at OVW's Saturday Night Special in an evening gown match which Hendrix won after Dylan Bostic distracted Epiphany. On the August 1 episode of OVW, Epiphany defeated Scarlett Bordeaux, and Heidi Lovelace, Jessie Belle Smothers and Taeler Hendrix in a fatal-four-way match on the August 8 episode of OVW in a dark matches. On the October 31 episode of OVW, Epiphany started a feud with Jessie Belle after defeating her in a singles match.

On the edition of 2 August of OVW, Tapa competed in a nine-woman gauntlet match to determine the number one contender for the OVW Women's Championship, where she was thrown over by Heidi Lovelace who reversed her powerbomb into a hurricanrana. After that she competed in a contest to crown the next "Miss OVW" with several other female wrestlers on the roster as well as feuding with then-OVW Women's Champion Trina. She was scheduled to face Trina for the belt at the edition of 7 September of OVW's Saturday Night Special, but Trina had to pull out due to suffering an injury. Later that night, Tapa would compete in a battle royal and emerge victorious, with lastly eliminating Taeler Hendrix.

The two divas teamed up in a tag team match against The Blossom Twins on the October 18 episode of OVW, but lost the match because of miscommunication. Both divas got their respective matches for the Women's Championship at OVW's Saturday Night Special during a triple threat match against Heidi Lovelace, but lost the match after Heidi pinned her Taeler retain. On the November 7 episode of OVW, Bynum (who was calling somebody in the previous episodes) was seen backstage as a masked man attacked Frank Miller (also known as Trailer Park Trash), hinting to get back to her old position. On the December 8 episode of OVW, it was revealed that the masked man was Flash Flanagan and that JoJo asked for his help to take down Trash.

Jessie Belle made her debut for Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) on the April 27, 2011, edition of OVW episode 610, where she teamed up with her kayfabe sister Izza Belle Smothers in a losing effort to The Blossom Twins (Hannah and Holly Blossom). On the May 11 edition of OVW episode 612, The Smothers Twisted Daughters teamed up with Shiloh Jonze in a losing effort to The Blossom Twins and Johnny Spade in six-person-mixed-tag-team match. On the May 14 edition of OVW's Saturday Night Special, Jessie competed in a gauntlet match for the OVW Women's Championship, but was unsuccessful in capturing the title. On the May 27 edition of OVW episode 614, Jessie would enter a feud with Taryn Shay after losing to her in her singles debut match.

On the 17 July edition of OVW Episode 726, in a pre-show dark match, The Blossom Twins teamed with Heidi Lovelace in a winning effort defeating Lovely Lylah and The Mean Girls (Hendrix and Envy) after Lylah was pinned by Lovelace. On the 21 September edition of OVW episode 735, Hannah won a fatal four–way ladder match to win the OVW Women's Championship for the third time, while also turning heel when she knocked Holly off the ladder to take the title. At OVW's Saturday Night Special on 5 October, the evil Hannah lost the title to Lei'D Tapa, ending her reign at 17 days. On 7 January 2014, the twins announced that they are taking a break from wrestling and stating that they are no longer a part of OVW and they took time off wrestling.

On the November 17 edition of OVW episode 691, Hendrix served as the special guest referee for Women's Championship match, helping Taryn Terrell to defeat Lovelace. During the match, Hendrix would refuse to let Lovelace beat Terrell; making slow counts, stopping Lovelace from hurting Terrell and giving Terrell a fast count. On the November 24 edition of OVW episode 692, Hendrix defeated Lovelace in a dark match. Later that night, Hendrix would pour animal feces all over Taryn Terrell. On the November 28 edition of OVW episode 693, Terrell attacked Hendrix during a in-ring segment trying to get revenge for the previous week but was stopped by Bostic, but then Terrell would get in a backstage brawl with Hendrix On December 1, at OVW's Saturday Night Special, Taeler defeated Taryn to win the OVW Women's Championship for a third time in a poop in the pool match.

Jessie teamed up with Alex Silva in a losing effort to Hendrix and Dylan Bostic in a mixed tag-team match. On August 4 at OVW's Saturday Night Special, Jessie challenged Hendrix for the OVW Women's Championship but was unsuccessful in winning the title. For weeks, Jessie competed against Hendrix, losing to her on several occasions. On the September 26 edition of OVW episode 684, Jessie finally defeated Hendrix in a dark match with the title not being online. On the October 10 edition of OVW episode 686, Jessie teamed up with Heidi Lovelace against Lylah Lodge and Taeler Hendrix in a winning effort. On the October 24 edition of OVW episode 688, Jessie teamed up with Lovelace and The Blossom Twins against Epiphany, Josette Bynum, Killa Kaila and Taeler Hendrix in a winning effort. On the October 31 edition of OVW episode 689, Jessie entered a feud with Epiphany after competing against her in a match, that ended in a no-contest. Later that night, Jessie defeated December, Emily Elizabeth, Epiphany, Josette Bynum, Scarlett Bordeaux and Taeler Hendrix in a Halloween Costume Contest - battle Royal. On the November 7 edition of OVW episode 690, Jessie teamed up with Lovelace against Epiphany and Taeler Hendrix in a winning effort.
