The river has its source in Lac-aux-Sables, located northwest of the main village in the area campgrounds. On its way downward, the river passes near Petit Lac Noir (Little Black Lake). After running for 2.8 km, the Propre River flows into the southeastern part of Huron Lake, located in the town of Lac- aux-Sables between the main village and Hervey-Jonction. The river resumes flowing south from the southwestern point of Huron Lake.

The Battle of Les Sables-d'Olonne was a minor naval battle fought on 23 February 1809 off the town of Les Sables-d'Olonne on the Biscay Coast of France between a French Navy squadron of three frigates and a larger British squadron of ships of the line. The French squadron had sailed from the port of Lorient on 23 February in an effort to link up with a fleet from Brest under Jean-Baptiste Willaumez, but missed the rendezvous and was pursued by a British blockade squadron under Rear-Admiral Robert Stopford. The French commander, Commodore Pierre Roch Jurien, anchored his squadron under the batteries which protected the town of Les Sables-d'Olonne in the hope of dissuading an attack. Ignoring the batteries, Stopford ordered his squadron to attack at 09:00 on 24 February, HMS Defiance leading the line.

Chutes Provincial Park is a recreation class provincial park in Sables-Spanish Rivers, Ontario near the community of Massey, Ontario, Canada. The park is named after a logging chute that diverted logs around the waterfall on the Aux Sables River. The waterfall is considered the main attraction at the park, along with the Seven Sisters Rapids found upstream from the waterfall. Unlike many other provincial parks, its proximity to Massey allows the park to use the municipal water supply, meaning that water does not have to be boiled before drinking.

The lake has three tributaries, the most important is the outlet of "Brulé Lake". The two other are the outlets of Veillette Lake and "à la roche" (river to the rock). Excluding the Springboks, Zimbabwe is one of only 3 nations in Africa to qualify for the Rugby World Cup, the others being Namibia and the Ivory Coast. The Sables maintain fierce rivalries with regional neighbors Namibia and Kenya, as the respective three nations have vied for African supremacy since the 2000s.

Like all antelopes, giant sables are shy by nature, but they can also be very aggressive. The males can be especially dangerous when hurt, attacked, or approached. In fights, males avoid some serious injuries by kneeling down on their front legs, and engage in horn- wrestling fights. Fatalities from these fights are rare.

To restore some forest areas, Grande Montagne, Anse Quitor (with neighbouring François Leguat Giant Tortoise Reserve) and two islets, Île aux Sables and Île aux Cocos have been declared nature reserves (under the Forest and Reserves Act 1983). Endangered plants on the reserves include Zanthoxylum paniculatum, Gastonia rodriguesiana, Badula balfouriana, and Gouania leguatii.

In April 1797, Réolaise was at Saint Martin de Ré to escort a convoy bound for Brest, and from there to ferry wine to Lorient. On 11 August she encountered a British squadron at Les Sables d'Olonne, but succeeded in escaping. She cruised under Tanays again in August 1799 in Quiberon Bay.

Osborne finally corners and wounds Arkady in the sable pens. Arkady gains the upper hand by releasing several of the sables, causing Osborne to rush recklessly into the pen where Arkady is able to shoot and kill him. Irina arrives and says that she wants to stay in America, but Arkady, finding America to be as corrupt as the Soviet Union, chooses to return to the latter; he also knows that if he does return home, the Soviet authorities will be less inclined to demand Irina's return. Moose, beavers, squirrels, pine martens are abundant in the reserve. Sables are known to live in the piedmont forest region of the reserve. The wild reindeer have almost disappeared after the loss of the pine forest section of the reserve in 1951, and consequent habitat destruction. The large predators include brown bears, wolves, and wolverines.

In 2007, Leijerstam became the first Welsh woman to complete in the Marathon des Sables where she ran six marathons in seven days, battling extreme high temperatures. On 25 April of that year the new tower showed its light, an electric signal, for the first time; it was tended by a keeper until 1985, when it was automated. Today the lighthouse is controlled automatically from Les Sables-d'Olonne; its property is still owned by the government, and is off-limits to visitors.

In spite of his weakened state, Arkady laughs when he realizes from his interrogators' questions that Iamskoy was himself a high-ranking KGB officer, planted as a spy in the militsiya, and his superiors were badly embarrassed to find that he betrayed them to help Osborne. Months later, Arkady is brought before a KGB General who confirms what Arkady already suspected: that Kostia Borodin (an expert hunter) and Valerya helped Osborne to trap and smuggle live sables - the only high-quality fur-bearing animal on which the Soviet Union enjoys a monopoly - out of Russia. Now, after several months of negotiations, Osborne has agreed to return the sables in exchange for Arkady being released and brought to America.

The chicks are altricial and covered in whitish-down on hatching. The eaglets fledge in August or early September. Adult plumage is attained at four years of age, but first breeding does not typically occur for another year or two. They reach sexual maturity at the age of two years. They have been reported to live for up to twenty two years on fur farms, and up to eighteen years in the wild. Sables can interbreed with pine martens. This has been observed in the wild, where the two species overlap in the Ural Mountains, and is sometimes deliberately encouraged on fur farms.

Base Section Number 1 used St-Nazaire, Nantes, and Les Sables d'Olonne as its ports, which handled troops and cargo. Approximately 200,000 soldiers entered France through the two ports and cargo handling reached 350,000 tons a month in October 1918. Its activities included training for engineer officers, artillery, and aerial observation. It had hospitals able to handle 35,000 sick and wounded.

Once it crosses the river, heading north, it is called Boulevard de la Montagne. It also goes through St-Ubalde after having climbed the Laurentian Mountains. The lighthouse is a hexagonal concrete tower, with lantern and gallery, designed in the Art Deco style. It is tall, and is white; the lantern is painted red. The light shows three white flashes in a two-one pattern every fifteen seconds. It was automated at the time of its construction, and is controlled from Les Sables-d'Olonne; it is government property, and may not be visited.

In his 1684 account The History of the Buccaneers of America, Alexandre Exquemelin notes l'Olonnais' place of birth as les Sables-d'Olonne, Kingdom of France. He first arrived in the Caribbean as an indentured servant during the 1650s. By 1660 his servitude was complete. He began to wander various islands before arriving in Saint-Domingue – in what is now Haiti – and becoming a buccaneer.

On 14 August 1811 Piercer captured the chasse marees Marengo and Phillippe, off the Sables d'Olonne. Two weeks later, Piercer was in company with when they captured the Catharina Augusta. In December Piercer witnessed an unfortunate occurrence for the Royal Navy. On the 27th, and sent 120 men in six boats to attack a French convoy sailing along the shore in the Basque Roads.

The rivière aux Sables is a river of the city of Saguenay (city), in the administrative region of Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, in Quebec, in Canada. In the 17th century, Russian explorers conquered Siberia in search of sables, while the Dutch contributed greatly to the charting of Australia. The 18th century witnessed the first extensive explorations of the South Pacific and Oceania and the discovery of Alaska, while the 19th was dominated by exploration of the polar regions and excursions into the heart of Africa. The settlement of Sobolivka was founded in the place where once existed the city of Sables, founded the Buh Cossacks for protecting of edge from the raids of Tatars. An original fortress was furnished two large earthen billows. Tatars pranged a fortress, and populations destroyed. Afterwards here was a new settlement with the name of Sobolivka, which entered in the complement of domains of the Polish counts of Pototskikh.

In 1965, Debarre decided to devote his life to sculpture and drawing after a meeting with Alberto Giacometti. He studied mathematics at the Lycée Georges Clemenceau in Nantes. After graduation, Debarre moved to Nice and first studied primary colors. He then relocated to Paris in 1973 and began a series of blue monochromes, which he exhibited the following year at the Museum of the Holy Cross Abbey in Les Sables-d'Olonne.

On 2 September 1806 Lord Cochrane was commissioned as the captain of Imperieuse.Cordingly (2008), p. 109. After her repairs were completed in November, Imperieuse joined a British squadron under Commodore Richard Keats stationed off Basque Roads. The American Sable is a result of Chinchilla rabbit crosses. Sables are identical to Chinchilla rabbits in body conformation, but their coats are colored differently. The head, feet, ears, back, and top of the tail are a dark sepia, while the coat fades to a lighter tan over the rest of the body, similar to the coloring of a Siamese cat. The breed's eyes are usually dark with a ruby hue.

Dauphine returned on 24 March. Ensign Tromelin-Lanuguy took command of Dauphine on 14 June 1774. In late 1774 and December 1775, Dauphine sailed to Madagascar resupply Maurice Benyovszky. On 29 November 1776, Dauphine rescued 7 women and an 8-month child, sole survivors of 160 slaves abandoned by the crew of a slave ship wrecked on "Isle aux Sables" (now Tromelin Island) on 27 September 1761, some 15 years earlier.

The community and post office have been identified under several other names, following the name changes of the adjacent lake. It was first known as Lac Rond (Round Lake), Lac Desormeaux (in honour of pioneer Norbert Desormeaux who arrived in the territory in 1890), as well as Lac des Sables (Sand Lake). Entrants were limited to sailing similar yachts and equipment to what was available to Sir Robin in the original race. This race started from Les Sables-d'Olonne on 1 July 2018. The prize purse has been confirmed as £75,000, with all sailors that finish before 15:25 on 22 April 2019 winning their entry fee back.

Kenogami lake is a long lake in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region of south- central Quebec, Canada. Situated at an altitude of , the lake is long and deep. "Kénogami" means "long lake" in the Montagnais dialect and was originally used to refer to Kenogami Lake, Ontario. It is situated in the Laurentian Highlands north of the Saint Lawrence River, into which it drains via the Saguenay River through the Chicoutimi and Aux-Sables Rivers.

Red foxes may kill small mustelids like weasels, stone martens, pine martens, stoats, kolonoks, polecats and young sables. Eurasian badgers may live alongside red foxes in isolated sections of large burrows. It is possible that the two species tolerate each other out of mutualism; foxes provide badgers with food scraps, while badgers maintain the shared burrow's cleanliness. However, cases are known of badgers driving vixens from their dens and destroying their litters without eating them.

Tradition notes that many miracles happened there. This chapel, fallen into ruin, was destroyed in 1866.

On 7 Jun 2019, the lifeboat Jack Morisseau set out to rescue a fishing vessel in distress during a storm off the Atlantic coast of France. Twenty minutes after launch, someone reported that the lifeboat was upside down on rocks close to its launch point in Les Sables-d'Olonne. Three of the crew died, one was airlifted out of the sea and three others swam to shore. The fisherman was unaccounted for.

Belleterre main street In 1930, prospector William Logan discovered gold near Mud Lake (now called Lake Guillet). This led to the establishment of the Belleterre Gold Mines Company in 1935, and the formation of the Belleterre community at nearby Sables Lake to house the miners and their families. In 1942, the place was incorporated as a town and at its peak had some 2000 residents. But by 1957, the mine was depleted and closed.

Many animals have been killed for the Siberian fur trade, which has had severe negative effects on Siberian ecology. In the middle of the nineteenth century, about 10-15 million squirrels were killed in Siberia each year, in addition to tens of thousands of ermines, rabbits, martens, foxes, sables, lynx and wolverine. Most of these animals are small and a single jacket requires many pelts. For example, several hundred squirrel pelts are needed to make one fur cloak.

Nikki Kimball (born May 23, 1971) is an American distance runner specializing in the Ultramarathon. She ran her first 100-mile race at the Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run in 2004, and was the female winner. She was the winning female at Western States again in 2006 and 2007, becoming only the third woman to win Western States three times. In 2014, she won the Marathon Des Sables multi-stage endurance race on her first attempt.

The British ships at Les Sables-d'Olonne were not seriously damaged, with minor damage to the rigging of Donegal and Caesar and damage to the rigging and masts of Defiance. Three British sailors were killed and 31 wounded. French losses were more severe, with 24 killed and 51 wounded. Although Stopford's dispatch on the action makes clear that attempts to repair the French ships began almost immediately, it is widely reported in British accounts that three ships were destroyed.

The highway begins north of Highway 17, at Whisky Lake Road. At this point, Highway 553 ends and Highway 810 begins, travelling north through the Canadian Shield. As it snakes northward parallel with the River aux Sables, the route passes several resource access roads which travel even further into the wilderness. The highway ends at Ritchie Falls, north of its southern terminus, north of which the roadway that carried it continues as a forest access road.

The road that Highway 810 follows was originally opened as the Massey Tote Road by the Spanish River Lumber Company at the turn of the 20th century, and provided access for loggers between Lake Huron and logging sites on the River Aux Sables, which the road closely paralleled. In early 1956, this road became Highway 553. The northern of Highway 553 were redesignated as Highway 810 on November 20, 1974. Since then, the highway has remained unchanged.

The Luçon and Sables-d'Olonne Divisions were ordered north to join Léchelle's main Republican army near Tiffauges. The underwoods abound in berry-bearing plants (e.g. cloudberry, cranberry, crowberry, red whortleberry), red-berried elder (Sambucus racemosa), wild raspberry, and spiraea. Bears, foxes, otters, and sables are numerous, as are reindeer in the north, and musk deer, hares, squirrels, rats, and mice everywhere. The bird population is mostly the common east Siberian, but there are some endemic or near-endemic breeding species, notably the endangered Nordmann's greenshank (Tringa guttifer) and the Sakhalin leaf warbler (Phylloscopus borealoides).

Bergeret was Pellew's prisoner for the second time. Exchanged after a brief captivity, Bergeret was put in command of the Créole and ordered back to France with reports and despatches. In February 1809, Bergeret was put in command of the Rochefort station, raising his pennant on the 80-gun Ville de Varsovie. He was supposed to have received reinforcements from Willaumez' squadron, but Willaumez ended up entangled in the Battle of Les Sables-d'Olonne, without support from Bergeret.

After studying literature, he worked in the communications industry and created an advertising agency, while at the same time embarking on a career of writing and illustrating children's books. He has written more than twenty books and albums and also writes in the children's press. In 1995 he established a publishing house in Les Sables-d'Olonne which publishes a dozen books per year.

The presidency of Arturo Alessandri saw a rise in popular discontent over an inefficient government. In 1924, the Chilean armed forces, led by General Luis Altamirano, began the saber-rattling (ruido de sables), a protest where soldiers banged their sabers against the floor of the Congress. Amid threats from the armed forces, Alessandri decided he could no longer govern and submitted his resignation. Although this resignation was not approved by Congress, Alessandri left the country and Altamirano established a military junta.

December 1807 saw Captain Frederick Paul Irby appointed to her for service in the English Channel and coast of Spain. He sighted three French 44-gun frigates (Calypso, Italienne and Sybille) near Belle Île on 23 February 1809 and Amelia and the brig chased them all night. The following morning they had approached so close to the rearmost French ship that her companions had to haul up to her support. soon came into sight and the French made for the Sables d'Olonne.

Agnew Lake is a lake in the Sudbury District, Ontario, Canada. Its area is 2,940 hectares and its shoreline is 210 kilometres long. The lake is located primarily in the municipalities of Sables-Spanish Rivers, Baldwin and Nairn and Hyman, although its easternmost end enters the city limits of Greater Sudbury near High Falls. The lake has been the site of varied mining activity, including drilling for diamonds in the earlier half of the 20th century and for uranium in the latter half.

Dima and Lama Hattab (born December 31, 1980) are twin sisters from Jordan best known for being the first female ultramarathon runners in the Middle East to take part in the famous endurance race Marathon des Sables. The Hattab twins also promote the sport of running in the Middle East, especially among women. In cooperation with the World Humanitarian Marathon and Ultramarathon Foundation (WMHF), they organize the Jabal Isrhin marathon, a famous annual race that takes place in Jordan’s Wadi Rum.

Fur coats can be made of almost any type of fur, but the most valued are the furs that are soft and will flow gently around the body. For example, reindeer fur is not usually used for coats because it tends to get stiff and rigid in the cold. The Siberian sable coats are the most expensive fur clothing. They come in seven different shades depending on which region of Siberia the fur is taken from and what season the sables were hunted.

In 1992 Leigh was diagnosed with dystonia, an incurable neurological condition, contracted after a badly performed dental operation some two years earlier, which affected his performing capabilities to such an extent that he eventually stopped playing altogether. Jean Behra was unable to take part in the British Grand Prix, having broken his shoulder blade at the non-championship Grand Prix de Sables d'Olonne the previous weekend. Consequently, Maurice Trintignant took over Behra's Gordini T16 for Silverstone, having driven a Simca-Gordini T15 at Rouen-Les-Essarts. The Gordini team also fielded regular drivers Robert Manzon and Prince Bira. As in the previous race, Belgian driver Johnny Claes entered a privateer Simca-Gordini under the 'Ecurie Belge' moniker.

The Canadian National Railway to Abitibi runs from 1909, linking Hervey-Jonction to La Tuque. The railway was built along the eastern shore of this lake, and was servicing the hamlets of Gouin and Lac-Masketsi (). Each hamlet had a railway station that has long served the lumber camps, resorts and tourist activities. In 2004, Lac-Masketsi was reduced in size by some when portions were annexed by mostly Trois-Rives (70 km²) as well as Lac-aux-Sables (20 km²).

Once a Roman town (‘Lucionensis’), Luçon takes its name from the Latin word for the northern pike (Lucius) and this fish decorates the coat of arms to this day. The town had an important position on the Roman road from Les Sables d'Olonne to Niort, and was a sea port in the Roman period. During the Dark Ages, a monastery was founded here by Saint Philbert. The town was sacked by the Normans in 846 and plundered by the Vikings in 853.

Hoffman, who made eight films, all released through Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Murray and Leonard divorced in 1925. Lake Charest is located just east of the mining village of Montautan-les-Mines. It is located close to the limit of Saint-Ubalde. The lake turns to be the head of the Charest River which, a priori, flows south-west over 1.5 kilometers in the territory of Notre-Dame- de-Montauban until the limit of Saint-Ubalde. In Saint-Ubalde’s territory, the river flows through the rows Saint-Paul, Saint-Achilles and Sainte-Anne, going gradually away from the boundaries of the Lac-aux-Sables.

The Elliot Lake Standard is a weekly newspaper, published in Elliot Lake, Ontario. Owned by Postmedia, the paper publishes each Thursday and serves much of the North Shore region, including Iron Bridge, Blind River, Spanish and Sables-Spanish Rivers. The paper was first published in the 1880s on St. Joseph Island, as the St. Joseph Island Herald. Following the emergence of Elliot Lake as the region's principal community in the 1950s, the paper moved to the city and became the Elliot Lake Standard in 1957.

It became the largest cod-fishing port in France, with 14,000 inhabitants, in the 17th century. During the French Revolution, unlike the surrounding Vendée, the city supported the Republic, and so was often besieged—unsuccessfully, because of its port. Rail service reached Les Sables on 29 December 1866, via the line from La Roche-sur-Yon, Bressuire, Saumur, and Tours; express service to and from Paris would arrive in 1971.

It extends over the Landes and Gers departments and represents 57% of the vineyards. It lies in the west, beside Armagnac-Ténarèze, an undulating area; the grapes grow in acidic, argillaceous and stony ground. Iron rust colors parts of the soil and these spots are called ’’sables fauves’’.

On 23 February 1809 Donegal was part of a squadron under Rear-Admiral Stopford, when they chased three enemy frigates into the Sable d'Olonne, leading to the Battle of Les Sables-d'Olonne. was able to anchor within half a mile of them, whilst Donegal and had to anchor further out because of their deeper draughts. Their combined fire eventually forced two of the frigates to run ashore, whilst Donegal suffered one man killed and six wounded in the engagement. By April 1809 Donegal was sailing with Admiral James Gambier's fleet in the Basque Roads.

The Moncouche Lake is a freshwater body of the watershed of the rivière aux Sables, flowing in the unorganized territory of Mont-Valin, in the Le Fjord- du-Saguenay Regional County Municipality, in the administrative region of the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, in the province of Quebec, in Canada. The majority of the area of Lake Moncouche is included in the northwestern part of the territory of zec Martin-Valin, in the township of Garreau. Forestry is the main economic activity in the sector. Recreational and tourist activities come second.

During the 17th century and first half of the 18th century, the Mistassini River was regarded as one of the six primary access routes to Lake Mistassini. A 1679 map by Louis Jolliet shows the river with the name Kakigoua, meaning "there where the sand is cut perpendicularly". Later the river is named Rivière aux Sables (Sand River) on maps by other cartographers such as Laure in 1731 and 1732, Jean Baptiste Bourguignon d'Anville in 1755, and Jacques-Nicolas Bellin in 1764. During his journey in 1792, botanist André Michaux calls it the Mistassini River.

The Saber noise (ruido de sables) incident of September 1924, provoked by discontent of young officers, mostly lieutenants from middle and working classes, lead to the establishment of the September Junta led by General Luis Altamirano and the exile of Alessandri. However, fears of a conservative restoration in progressive sectors of the army led to another coup in January, which ended with the establishment of the January Junta as interim government while waiting for Alessandri's return. The latter group was led by two colonels, Carlos Ibáñez del Campo and Marmaduke Grove.

In September 2008 Chiyohakuhō was the only wrestler who did not take part in the surprise drug tests of the seventy sekitori that led to the dismissals of Rohō and Hakurozan. In June 2009, along with other members of the Kokonoe stable and four other sables, he was tested, and he expressed his relief at finally having done so. Coat of Russian sables The monetary profits from the Siberian fur trade were enormous; Siberian furs were known as "soft gold" because their value is comparable to actual gold. Altogether, the Siberian fur industry was worth around $62 million a year in 1992. In the 16th century, a prime sable pelt sold for ten times what a peasant family could earn in a year, and a black fox fetched up to ten times the price of sable. Private traders sold roughly 350,000 rubles' worth of Siberian furs annually during the seventeenth century.

Bonchamps, Lescure and La Rochejaquelein took Bressuire, won the Battle of Thouars and stormed La Châtaigneraie on 13 May. At Pissotte near Fontenay-le-Comte the Vendeans were beaten by Chalbos on 16 May and lost all their artillery.

Mauro Prosperi (born 1955, Rome) is an Italian police officer and modern pentathlete who became famous after becoming lost in the Sahara Desert during an endurance event in 1994. Prosperi, a keen endurance runner, took part in the 1994 Marathon des Sables (Marathon of the Sands) in Morocco. Part way through the six-day 233 kilometre event a sandstorm caused Mauro Prosperi to lose his way. He ended up disoriented and ran in the wrong direction, ultimately running several hundred kilometres into Algeria. After 24 hours he ran out of food and water.

Music festival appearances have been a large part of Malouma's career. The first time she participated in an international festival was in Carthage, Tunisia in 1988; her performance proved to be highly successful. Malouma returned to the stage in August 2003, appearing at the Festival des Musiques Métisses in Angoulême, France, combining traditional Moorish music with a more modern approach in numbers from her album Dunya. She was not only selected as "artiste de l'année" (artist of the year) but was nicknamed "Diva des Sables" (Diva of the Sands).

Least weasels driven from a mountain hare carcass by a stoat, as illustrated in Barrett-Hamilton's A History of British Mammals The least weasel is small enough to be preyed upon by a range of other predators. Least weasel remains have been found in the excrement of red foxes, sables, steppe and forest polecat, stoats, eagle owls and buzzards. The owls most efficient at capturing least weasels are barn, barred, and great horned owls. Other birds of prey threatening to the least weasel include broad-winged and rough-legged buzzards.

Fort Saint Louis is under command of the capitaine de vaisseau in charge of the navy and the naval air forces for the Caribbean (COMAR ANTILLES). The forces based here include the BATRAL Francis Garnier (L9031); the P400 class patrol vessel Fougueuse (P685); and the frigate Ventôse (F733). The active part of the fort includes the administrative buildings of the base, the service for naval constructions, the radio station of Pointe des Sables, ammunition storage facilities (at the end of Fort de France), and the Rivière Salée station (20 km away).

The zec Tawachiche is a zone d'exploitation contrôlée (controlled harvesting zone) (zec) covering 318 km², of which 310 km² are located in Mékinac Regional County Municipality, in Mauricie, in the province of Quebec, in Canada. This zec is mainly located in the municipality of Lac-aux-Sables and in the non- organized territories of Lac-Masketsi and Lac-Lapeyrère. The zec territory is situated north of Sainte-Thècle and Saint-Tite. Located approximately 80 km north of Trois-Rivières, it is bordered to the east by Portneuf Wildlife Reserve.

The Sables-d'Olonne Division was smashed by Charette at the Battle of Saint-Fulgent. Canclaux and Rossignol mounted a new offensive resulting in a success at the Battle of Saint-Symphorien on 6 October, but their earlier defeats and the conniving of the radical Charles-Philippe Ronsin brought about a reshuffling of Republican commanders in early October. In 1944, Surrealist André Breton travelled to Québec, where he wrote Arcane 17. In 1984 Peter Ginn, the well known bird photographer and Geography teacher at Peterhouse Boys' School, approached The United Bottling Company, Mr Daryl Mitchell from Rakodzi farm and several others and a fence was erected. The park comprises land from Rakodzi farm and Springvale Estate. Later on in 1984, a pond was built and some game (nine impalas and several sables) was introduced. It was named after Patrick Gosho, a former Estate Manager at Springvale House with a history of running the Springvale Estate and being Springvale School's first employee.

Dysart:61Swanton:136 In 1539 Diego Maldonado, exploring the northern coast of the Gulf of Mexico under orders from Hernando de Soto, found Pensacola Bay (which the Spanish called the Bay of Achuse, Achusi, Ochuse or Ochus). Maldonado found a village on the bay, where he seized one or two of the inhabitants, along with a "good blanket of sables." De Soto ordered Maldonado to meet him at the Bay of Achuse the next summer with supplies for his expedition. Maldonado returned three years in succession, but de Soto never appeared.

Tromelin-Lanuguy then served as first officer on Dauphine, taking part in Kerguelen's second expedition. After the return of the ships to Madagascar, he took command of Dauphine on 14 June 1774. On 29 November 1776, Dauphine rescued 7 women and an 8-month child, sole survivors of 160 slaves abandoned by the crew of a slave ship wrecked on "Isle aux Sables" (now Tromelin Island) on 27 September 1761, some 15 years earlier. In August 1778, Tromelin-Lanuguy was appointed to the 22-gun fluyt Pintade, bound for France.

Route 363 northbound as it climbs up in the mountain Route 363 (highest elevation: ) is a south-north route in Quebec, Canada, going from Route 138 in Deschambault-Grondines along the St-Lawrence river to Lac-aux-Sables. It goes through St-Marc-des-Carrières where it is called Boulevard Bona-Dussault. After St-Marc, it enters a forest and then runs parallel to a railroad track. It is then concurrent for about 3 km in St-Casimir with Route 354 along the Rivière Ste-Anne, where it is rue (street) Notre-Dame.

Daigle hosted his first freestyle skiing camp on Whistler Mountain in April 1974. In July of the following year, he hosted the first "Michel Daigle Summer Camp" with John Eaves on Lac des Sables in Sainte-Agathe des Monts, Quebec, Canada. The camp was the first summer skiing training facility in North America to offer aerials training on water ramps. Over 6 day sessions, campers trained for aerials on the ramps - a 25 foot and a 40 foot high ramp - and on trampolines, and practiced ski ballet on a mechanical moving carpet.

On 12 November, the German tugboat Hercule took Infernet under tow from La Rochelle to bring her to the breaker's yard in Stettin, Germany, but four days later, the tow line broke in heavy seas. Infernet drifted aground off Les Sables-d'Olonne on the Atlantic coast of France and Hercule sheltered in that port. Infernet was found to have come to rest on a shoal, but the water was too low to allow her to be refloated; an initial survey noted that the ship's propellers and rudder were damaged in the grounding. Infernet proved to be a total loss.

It favoured weak riders who could be pulled along by stronger team-mates and handicapped strong riders, like Fontan, slowed by having too few good riders to share the pace-making. Only when individual racing was allowed as the Tour approached the mountains could Fontan ride at his own level. He won the stage from Les Sables d'Olonne that took the field within distance of the Pyrenees at Bordeaux. The Pyrenees were his local climbs but he was so far behind the leaders – 1h 45m – that the favourites disregarded him when he raced off alone from Hendaye, on the Spanish border, to Luchon.

Route 132 sign The main axis of communication is Highway 132 which runs northwest to southeast. The majority of the population in this area is located along this highway. Additionally, there are two provincial highways that snake through the valley which are perpendicular to the St. Lawrence River Hwy 297, which goes from Saint-Moïse to Baie-des-Sables, and Hwy 195, which runs from Amqui to Matane. A railroad that crosses the valley on the same axis as the 132 defines the eastern extremity of the valley, which allows access to New Brunswick and the Gaspé peninsula.

On 3 Oct 1817, he was appointed during the papacy of Pope Pius VII as Titular Bishop of Maxula Prates and Coadjutor Vicar Apostolic of Se-Ciuen. On 1 Feb 1818, he was consecrated bishop by François de Bovet, Archbishop of Toulouse, with Jean-Claude Leblanc de Beaulieu, Archbishop of Arles, and William Poynter, Titular Bishop of Alias, serving as co-consecrators. On 11 Jul 1838, he succeeded to the bishopric.

Between 1820 and 1849, the Hudson's Bay Company operated a trading post at the outlet of Sables Lake on the Du Lièvre River that controlled all the fur brigades from the upper Du Lièvre and Gatineau Rivers. In 1873, the Notre-Dame-du-Laus parish was founded, named after the apparitions of Our Lady of Laus. In 1876, the place was incorporated as the United Township Municipality of Bigelow-Wells-Blake-et-McGill, and two years later the post office, which was named Notre-Dame-du-Laus, opened. In February 1946, the municipality was renamed to its current name.

Route 367 is a 100 km two-lane north/south highway on the north shore of the Saint Lawrence River in Quebec, Canada. Although technically a north/south highway, long stretches of the road are east/west. Its northern/western terminus is close to Lac-aux-Sables at the junction of Route 363 and the southern/eastern terminus is in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures at the junction of Route 138. Route 367 used to stop in Rivière-à-Pierre, but in the late 1990s they have added the stretch between Rivière-à-Pierre and the junction of Route 363.

Seeking to gain something from the mission, Captain Georges Bergé instructed his men to disperse and go on general reconnaissance and meet at Sables d'Olonne at the end of the month for extraction by sea. One of the men was already missing and another failed to make the rendezvous. The term "vermin" is used to refer to a wide scope of organisms, including rodents, cockroaches, termites, bed bugs, mosquitoes, ferrets, stoats, sables, rats, and occasionally foxes. Historically, in the 16th and 17th century, the expression also became used as a derogatory term associated with groups of persons typically plagued by vermin, namely beggars and vagabonds, and more generally the poor. Tuncq occupied Chantonnay but soon returned to Luçon, leaving René François Lecomte and Marceau in charge of 7,000 troops in an exposed position. Back in army command Rossignol made the rounds of his divisions, rebuking his generals for not cooperating. He ordered the Luçon division to sweep the country to the west and keep touch with the Sables d'Olonne division. He also ordered Chalbos to capture La Châtaigneraie. On 2 September a council of war at Saumur decided to reinforce Canclaux's army with 16,000 veterans from the Army of Mainz under Jean-Baptiste Annibal Aubert du Bayet and make the main thrust into the Vendée from Nantes.

After retiring from football, Luis Enrique lived for a while in Australia to practice surfing. He took part in the 2005 edition of the New York City Marathon, finished the Amsterdam Marathon in 2006, the Firenze Marathon in 2007 and the Marathon des Sables in 2008, while also entering and finishing Frankfurt Ironman in 2007. He was due to take part in the Klagenfurt Ironman competition in July 2008, but eventually declined due to his engagement as manager of Barcelona B. Luis Enrique married his longtime partner Elena Cullell on 27 December 1997. Their daughter, Xana, died of bone cancer at age 9 on 29 August 2019.

Flib, Diggs, and Buckler join forces with a musical traveling group of hedgehogs, voles, and moles, who are also on their way to Redwall. When Flib and two of the younger hedgehogs sleep outside the performing company's raft, on the riverbank, they are captured by the Ravagers. As it turns out, many young ones have been captured by the Ravagers, led by Zwilt the Shade and Vilaya, both evil sables. They are keeping the hostages in the remains of Brockhall (a place under an immense old tree), which they have renamed Althier, and are planning to use the captives to force Redwall to surrender to their demands.

Neither sable has succeeded in finding the runaways. The two sables battle, and Zwilt stabs Vilaya with his broadsword; she falls unconscious with the pain. Thinking Vilaya is dead, Zwilt prepares to cut off her head as a warning to other vermin, but one of the Ravager stoats (a female named Gliv) urges him not to, saying it would be a bad omen. As the other Ravagers march off to make war on Redwall, Gliv is left behind with instructions to bury Vilaya; however, knowing that the Sable Quean is still alive, she nurses her back to health, and instructs her to follow Zwilt and slay him.

Nadi was elected to the General Council in 1910 for Canton du Grand-Serre, Drôme, and the Chamber of Deputies in 1914. During this time, activists from La Roche-sur-Yon and Les Sables-d'Olonne appealed to the SFIO, which sent Nadi, a Permanent Delegate, to visit them, resulting in the emergence of additional SFIO groups. Chaired by Nadi, the first Congress was held in La Roche-sur-Yon, from which emerged the Socialist Federation of Vendee, with a hundred members. In 1919, Jules Nadi was re-elected to the General Council representing Romans-sur-Isère, where he remained until his death in 1925, defeating Gailly.

The Spanish River is a river in Algoma District, Sudbury District and Greater Sudbury in Northwestern Ontario, Canada. It flows in a southerly direction from its headwaters at Spanish Lake (west branch) and Duke Lake (east branch) to its mouth at the North Channel on Georgian Bay, Lake Huron just outside the community of Spanish. The river is located almost entirely within the Sudbury District, except for brief passages into the city of Greater Sudbury near the communities of High Falls and Turbine and the river mouth in Algoma District. Tributaries include Pogamasing Creek, Mogo Creek, Agnes River, the Aux Sables River, the Vermilion River and the Wakonassin River.

Born in 1972 in Auray (Morbihan), Auguste Le Guennant studied at the Schola Cantorum de Paris, the organ with Alexandre Guilmant and composition with Vincent d'Indy. He held for some time the position of organist at the grand organ of Notre-Dame de Clignancourt, and left Paris in 1905 to become head of the chapel at Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Port in Les Sables-d'Olonne, and from 1908 at the Basilica of Saint-Nicolas in Nantes. He founded the mixed group A Capella in this city, in collaboration with A. Mahot. The Mutual Edition of the Schola Cantorum published his Adagietto for organ, and an O Salutaris for four mixed voices.

Eleanor Roosevelt in private showed a revulsion against rich Jews in 1918, telling her mother-in-law the "Jew party [was] appalling....I never wish to hear money, jewels or sables mentioned again.". The race, starting in Les Sables D'olonne, France, required the sailors to race through the "Roaring Forties" and "Furious Fifties" latitudes. Dangers faced ranged from hitting an iceberg to the high velocity unchecked waves. On February 25, 2005, Schwab completed the Vendee Globe in 9th place becoming the first American to officially finish and the 254th person to solo circumnavigate the globe, with an official time of 109 days, 19 hours, 58 minutes and 57 seconds.

As a growing service-centre for the surrounding region, its economic base became more diverse with a strong foundation of tourism activities that included, in the summer, horse-back riding, boating, fishing, and lakeside recreation, as well as the winter activities of cross-country skiing, dog-sled racing, skating, and ice hockey. While the train is no longer in service, there is an extensive bike path that has replaced it called "Le Petit Train Du Nord". It directly connects to other paths that extend as far as Montreal.

Via his contacts in Brussels he worked with film maker Alain de Halleux on many TV and movie ads, including a trilogy of ads for Perrier. Several short-lived duos and one-off projects from this period included musicians John van Rymenant (saxophones, electronics, programming), Peter Beyls (self-designed software, controllers, interfaces, electronics), Claude Janssens (alto saxophone, trombone, programming). Leigh played with Pierre Jacob (keyboards, flutes, percussion, vocals) in the fusion group Sables (band) from 1988 until 1992, and in 1988 formed the Morton Fork Gang with British saxophonist Joe Higham – the band included Daniel Denis (drums) and Guy Segers (bass guitar) from Univers Zéro, cellist Jan Kuijken, and saxophonists Mark Bogaerts and Daniel Stokart.

At first, Russians were content to trade with the natives, exchanging goods like pots, axes, and beads for the prized sables that the natives did not value, but greater demand for furs led to violence and force becoming the primary means of obtaining the furs. The largest problem with the yasak system was that Russian governors were prone to corruption because they received no salary. They resorted to illegal means of getting furs for themselves, including bribing customs officials to allow them to personally collect yasak, extorting natives by exacting yasak multiple times over, or requiring tribute from independent trappers. Russian fur trappers, called promyshlenniki, hunted in one of two types of bands of 10–15 men, called .

The Sable LTS remained in a "development hell" until mid-1994 when it was introduced as a high end version of the Sable, but by then, it was just a highly optioned LS. An unknown number of these Sables still exist, but a pristine condition GS in this trim was sold on eBay in 2007. A special one-of- a-kind Sable convertible was created in 1987 for the 1988 Detroit SAE auto show. It was built from a sedan chassis and featured a completely custom two- door body with a custom folding top. However, it was shelved; the only one sat in a warehouse for years until it was given a VIN, titled, and driven.

Atlas of Canada - Ministry of Natural Ressources of Canada - Propre River From Huron Lake, the Propre River flows south-east, passing under the road bridge of Chemin du Lac Huron, then under a railway bridge and under the Route 153 road bridge between Sainte-Thècle to Lac-aux-Sables. This bridge is characterized by the "Côte de la Propre" (bank of the Propre) which was dangerous to traffic until the construction of a new bridge and rehabilitation of the road. Below the bridge (close to the road), the river flows into a large waterfall. Once at the top of this fall, a dam was built to operate a saw mill owned by Mr. Champagne.

Ascofaré was a radio host until 1978, when he became a teacher at the Institut National des Arts in Bamako. In 1984, he received a diploma in film studies from the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (now the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography) in Moscow and, in 1985, he joined the Centre National de Production Cinématographique in Bamako as a director. Beginning in 1991, he produced several short films and, in 1997, he produced his first full-length film, Faraw, une mère des sables (Faraw, a mother of the sands), which retraces twenty-four hours in the life of a Songhaï woman. Faraw won the Golden Bayard for Artistic Creation at the 1997 Namur Film festival.

At age two, Vision d'Etat won the Prix le Pompier at the Les Sables-d'Olonne racecourse and the Prix de la Malmontagne at the Fontainebleau racecourse. At age three, he won the Prix Alcantara II at Saint-Cloud Racecourse, and at Chantilly Racecourse, both the Prix de Suresnes and the prestigious French Classic, the Prix du Jockey Club. His last outing in mid September was at Longchamp Racecourse where he won the Prix Niel. Undefeated in his first six starts, on October 5, 2008 Vision d'Etat finished fifth in France's most prestigious race, the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Vision d'Etat began his 2009 campaign in early April with a third-place finish in the Prix d'Harcourt.

Many non-Senegalese African dancers, who went on to found their own schools, attended Mudra Afrique, and so its multidisciplinary training greatly influenced dance across West Africa. This includes Germaine Acogny, the former director of Mudra Afrique, who established her own African contemporary dance school, École des Sables, in Senegal in 2004, based on the same Pan-African principles which inspired Mudra Afrique. The school is now a platform for choreographers from all over the world and for African dancers aspiring to an international career. She explains her conception of contemporary African dance saying “the artistic movement into which I insert my own work, even though it is deeply rooted in popular traditions, is not at all a return to roots.

On 7 February 1809 Naiad was in the squadron under the command of Commodore William Hotham and so shared in the proceeds of the capture of the French vessel Prudent. Then on 23 February Naiad was at anchor to the north-west of the Chassiron lighthouse with , and Emerald, the squadron now being under the command of Rear Admiral Robert Stopford in . The next day they saw eight sail-of-the-line and two frigates flying French colours and standing into the Pertuis d'Antioche. Stopford immediately sent Naiad to warn Admiral Lord Gambier that the French squadron from Brest had arrived but, before she had gone a few miles, Naiad sighted three French frigates heading for Les Sables-d'Olonne and signalled Stopford.

In 1989, with the help of Roush Racing, Ford Truck Public Affairs created a one-off Ford Ranger, dubbed the "SHO Ranger", with a SHO V6 and a Mustang GT's T-5 manual transmission. According to D.A. "Woody" Haines, assistant manager of that division, they commissioned the project truck "to test the market." In 1993, Ford Canada hand-built 40 Mercury Sables, some of which were powered by SHO V6 engines, as part of their AIV (Aluminum Intensive Vehicle) program and released 20 to the public. Using aluminum suspension elements and aluminum body panels, held together with spot welding and adhesive joining processes developed specifically for this vehicle, the end result was a car that was lighter than a SHO Taurus.

Hanley's daughter, Ella Clifford Scutt, maintained a scrapbook of her mother's career accomplishments, which she donated to the Laurentian University archives in 1967. Due to a fire at Webbwood's municipal building, the town's own records from Hanley's time in office have been lost, and the Laurentian holdings are the main extant source for primary documentation of Hanley's career. In 1967, Webbwood's then-mayor Dallas Wood confirmed to The Globe and Mail that the town had never undertaken any serious effort to commemorate Hanley's historic significance, such as naming a street after her or declaring a special event in her honour.

Plaque in memory of Félix Cadras at 119 Boulevard Davout, Paris 20th arr, where he lived under a false name during World War II With the outbreak of World War II (1939–45) Cadras was mobilized on 4 September 1939 as an artillery sergeant and assigned to the garrison of Boulogne-sur-Mer, where he remained until the German invasion in May 1940. In June 1940 his unit, which had retreated to Les Sables-d'Olonne, surrendered. Cadras avoided being taken prisoner and made his way to Tours and then to Toulouse, where he was demobilized. His sister Georgette found him there and told him the underground leadership of the PCE wanted him to help organize the resistance in the southern zone.

During most of 1924, Chile had been politically paralyzed by a conflict between the President and the conservatively controlled Congress, who refused to enact the laws that he submitted. On September 3, 1924 a group of 56 military officers protested for their low salaries, in the incident known as the ruido de sables (or "saber-rattling"). The next day the same group of young military officers led by Colonel Marmaduque Grove and Major Carlos Ibáñez del Campo, created the "military committee" to defend themselves from the government. On September 5, the "military committee" demanded of President Alessandri the dismissal of three of his ministers, including the Minister of War; the enactment of a labor code, the passage of an income tax law, and the improvement of the military salaries.

Within one year of retirement from professional rugby, Browne competed in and completed the Marathon des Sables, also known as 'The Toughest Footrace on Earth'. The 31st edition of the cult, multi day ultra marathon was staged in the Moroccan Sahara desert, over 6 days and 257kms. All participants must carry everything they need to survive for the duration of the race from the start, apart from water which is supplied by the race organisers at the start of each stage and at the various checkpoints throughout the day. During the 2016 edition in which Browne competed, Stage distances were as follows - Stage 1 - 37km Stage 2 - 40.2 kms Stage 3 - 36.2 Stage 4 - 84.4km Stage 5 - 42.2km Stage 6 - 17km Browne lost 9kgs over the 6 day race.

The British built five Martello Towers between 1832 and 1835 at Grand River North West (2), Black River (2), and Port Louis (1), of which three survive. One tower, named Cunningham Tower after Lieutenant-Colonel Cunningham, the commanding Royal Engineer, was constructed as part of Fort George at the northern side of the entrance to Port Louis harbour. Two towers were built at Grand River North West; on the south-west side of the river bay the tower was built at Pointe aux Sables whilst Fort Victoria was built covering the north-eastern flank. The remaining two were built to support existing batteries, which were also improved, at the mouth of the Black River; one to the north at La Preneuse and the other south of Grande-Rivière-Noire at Batterie de l'Harmonie.

L'Armendèche Lighthouse is a French lighthouse located along the coast of the Vendée department; it is located in La Chaume, a district of Les Sables-d'Olonne. It was the last major lighthouse to be constructed on French territory, and takes its name from that of a place just down the coast. The lighthouse was constructed in 1968 to a design by local architect Maurice Durand; unlike his other lighthouses, it was not meant to replace a tower which had been destroyed during World War II, but was instead built new as a landfall light. It was constructed in response to criticisms from local sailors, who said that due to development along the shoreline they could no longer see the harbor lights at the entrance to the town harbor.

The Charest River flows south, crossing the rows St. Paul, St. Achilles and Sainte-Anne, in Saint-Ubalde and gradually goes away from the boundaries of the Lac-aux-Sables. In his course, going toward the boundary Saint-Ubalde and Saint-Adelphe, this river gets water from lakes Sainte-Anne and Perch. Then the river flows South-East (almost in parallel to the Batiscan River) and through 16 lots in the First Price Row in the Eastern section of Saint-Adelphe, where its course becomes very coil. After descending the moraine more than a kilometer in the North-East row in the municipality of Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pérade, Charest River forks to 90 degrees to the right (southbound) entering Saint-Prosper-de-Champlain, moving towards the village, along the foot of the moraine.

Having settled in Yakutsk, he joined the staff of the local Lensky Kommunar newspaper. In 1925, Murray, Leonard, and Stahl produced films at Tiffany Pictures, with Souls for Sables (1925), starring Claire Windsor and Eugene O'Brien, as the first film made by Tiffany. For a brief period of time, Murray wrote a weekly column for newspaper scion William Randolph Hearst. At her career peak in the early 1920s, Murray, along with such other notable Hollywood personalities as Cecil B. DeMille, Douglas Fairbanks, William S. Hart, Jesse L. Lasky, Harold Lloyd, Hal Roach, Donald Crisp, Conrad Nagel and Irving Thalberg was a member of the board of trustees at the Motion Picture & Television Fund – a charitable organization that offers assistance and care to those in the motion picture and television industries without resources. Four decades later, Murray herself received aid from that organization.

Established at a terminus at 49 meters above sea level, the Tours station is the origin of the line of the Tours–Saint-Nazaire railway and of the line from Tours–Le Mans railway. Not being located on the Paris-Austerlitz to Bordeaux- Saint-Jean line, Tours station is connected by two connections. The connection from Saint-Pierre-des-Corps to Tours in the direction of Paris-Austerlitz and the connection from Tours to Monts (branches of the Bordeaux line) towards Bordeaux-Saint-Jean. Until May 5, 1970, it was the terminus station of the Sables-d'Olonne line, whose route from the terminal was abandoned from Joué- lès-Tours station, in favor of a connection created between this last station and the line from Paris-Austerlitz to Bordeaux-Saint-Jean, south of Tours.

Born on 4 October 1805 in Neuwiller-lès-Saverne, Bas-Rhin, as the younger son of Lieutenant- General Baron Etienne Hastrel de Rivedoux was a general of division in the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars. and grandfather, Christophe Claude d'Hastrel de Rivedoux, capitain-major of infantry and chevalier de Saint-Louis, survived the Siege of Pondicherry in 1760, during the Seven Years' War. He traveled the world for twenty years and took advantage of its military missions to draw and paint landscapes, scenes of daily life, human types and costumes. His views of various cities in France, including Les Sables d'Olonne and La Rochelle, the colony of Senegal, Rio de Janeiro and other cities in South America are reproduced or referenced in many works of history, art history or dictionaries, French or foreign.

Mike Plant (November 21, 1950 – 1992) was an American single-handed yachtsman. He competed in the BOC Challenge and the Vendée Globe, a single-handed non- stop race around the world. After discussion, it was agreed that the Nantes and Mayence divisions would continue to march from the west toward Cholet where it would meet converging columns from Luçon and Les Sables d'Olonne in the south and from Bressuire in the east. After starting at La Châtaigneraie, Chalbos and François Joseph Westermann devastated the countryside as far as Bressuire where they were joined by columns from Saumur and Thouars, making a body of 20,000 soldiers. On 14 October 1793, Léchelle ordered the Luçon column to march through Mortagne-sur-Sèvre to make contact with the advance guard of the Mayence division under Michel de Beaupuy.

The Sables would begin the decade in poor form, having lost all four of their matches in the 2000 Africa Cup, against Namibia and a South African Amateur XV; the team narrowly improved in the following edition in 2001, being able to defeat Namibia once by the score of 27 to 26. In the penultimate 2002 edition, Zimbabwe played a close and tense game against Namibia in Harare, but ultimately lost 30 to 42, failing to qualify for the 2003 Rugby World Cup. As the decade continued, Zimbabwe would slowly fade from the African rugby scene; the 2004 campaign was disastrous, as Zimbabwe lost to Madagascar for the first time, and would later get thrashed by Namibia. The 2007 Rugby World Cup qualifying campaign was also a disaster, with Zimbabwe losing to Zambia, an opponent they had traditionally dominated.

Soon after the renewal of hostilities in May 1803, Hotham obtained command of the 40-gun frigate Imperieuse, and in the same year he recaptured a South Sea whaler, homeward bound in the Channel. He was appointed to the frigate in April 1804, conveying Prince Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex from Lisbon to Portsmouth in August. In September he escorted an outward bound East India fleet, before proceeding to Halifax. On 1 December 1803 Imperieuse recaptured the ship Britannia, and on 4 November 1805 he assisted at the capture of four French ships by Sir Richard Strachan in the Battle of Cape Ortegal. In March 1806 Hotham took command of the 74-gun , in the squadron of Rear-Admiral Robert Stopford. On 23 February 1809 Stopford's squadron fought three French frigates in the Battle of Les Sables-d'Olonne.

Then in 1923 he opened his office in Paris, in association with Paul Sinoir, and produced many public and private buildings in the Île-de-France: His mastery of construction techniques and concrete in particular is revealed in his major works. At the same time, he was involved in the production of villas in Brittany, Val-André and Sables d'Or les Pins, In the 1930s, he collaborated with architect Henry Jacques Le Même on the construction of sanatoriums at Plateau d'Assy, Haute- Savoie, the sanatorium of the Roc Fiz (1932), Guebriant (1932–33), Clairière (1934) and finally the sanatorium of Martel de Janville (1932–1937). Between 1940 and 1942 and 1945 and 1947, he led the experimental reconstruction of the central city of Orléans, and was noted for his use of heavy prefabricated reinforced concrete. In 1949 he designed the plan of the École Nationale d'Enseignement Technique de Montluçon (Allier).

Their career took another step forward in 2001 when they participated in the famous endurance race Marathon des Sables, a 250 km, a six-day race in the sub- Saharan desert of Morocco which requires all participants to be entirely sufficient, with their own supplies on their backs. During the following years, they participated regularly in various local races and also started taking part in more endurance races around the world, including La Tranzaq (216 km race in France). Being women, in addition to their choice of such a difficult sport, made them well-known figures in the Middle East, appearing in many shows on famous channels like Jazeera sport and Orbit, and also making the cover page of various magazines. But in spite of the fact of their fame, the Hattab twins are facing a lot of difficulties in taking their career to the next level, mainly due to the lack of sponsorship in the Middle East for such endurance sports, especially for women.

In 1951 a law was introduced whereby 1% of the total funds given for the construction of new schools would be used to fund a work of sculpture to decorate the school in question. Leygue received several such commissions included "Le renouveau" for the lycée Angellier in Boulogne-sur-Mer in 1980, "Au-dessus de la mêlée" for the lycée Romain Rolland in Ivry in 1977, "Les voiles du futur" for the lycée La Roquelle in Coutances in 1972, "Soleil et nature" for the lycée technique de Grand-Quevilly in Rouen in 1970. Further such commissions were "Le Bovidé" for the lycée agricole in Coutances in 1969,"L’appel du large" for the lycée mixte in Sables-d’Olonne in 1965, "L’enseignement audio-visuel" for the lycée d’enseignement technique in Lille in 1964, "La main de Prométhée" for the lycée technique in Toulouse in 1960, "Le Phénix" for Caen university in 1955 and "La Fontaine-Tournante" for the lycée climatique in Argelès-Gazost in 1954.

The writer John O'Keeffe saw her perform as a small child and described her appearing on stage: "She always appeared in the orchestra in a yellow silk gown, and was heard by the applauding company with great delight, without remark upon her sables." Her final Dublin performance was in July 1756, singing in honour of General William Blakeney as part of Niccolo Pasquali's masque Hibernia's triumph. From 1757 to 1767, Baptist herself stated she was in England, performing in London and Bath, however there is no mention of her in the playbills of reference works for the London stage at that time. It is possible it was Baptist who plated Polly Peachum in The beggar's opera and later Juliet in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet in Lancashire during this time. In the spring and summer of 1758, she performed in the Ranelagh Gardens, Liverpool with local papers stating that "Miss Baptist, the celebrated singer from the gardens of Dublin".

Malouma Meidah receiving the 2015 Mauritanian Woman of Courage award Malouma was selected in 2003 by the jury as one of the World Music Expo (WOMEX) showcase artists and two years later she was selected by BBC musicologist Charlie Gillett, for his 2005 selected compilation Favorite Sounds of the World CD. That same year, N'Diaye Cheikh, a Mauritanian filmmaker, produced a documentary about her, entitled Malouma, diva des sables (Malouma, Diva of the Sands) with Mosaic Films, which won Best Documentary at the Festival international du film de quartier (FIFQ; Dakar, Senegal) and a 2007 Prize of Distinction from Festival International de Programmes Audiovisuels (FIPA), held in Biarritz, France. She was a runner-up for the Middle East and North Africa in the 2008 BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music. The griot-artist community of Mauritania has also acclaimed her by calling her the "first true composer in Mauritania". Malouma was decorated in 2013 as a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor by the French ambassador, Hervé Besancenot, acting on behalf of President Nicolas Sarkozy of France.

Trapped between the two British forces, French Commodore Pierre-Roch Jurien took his ships inshore under the batteries of Les Sables d'Olonne. Stopford followed the French into the anchorage and in the ensuing battle drove all three French ships ashore where they were damaged beyond repair.James, p. 97 Willaumez made no move to challenge Stopford or Gambier, although he had successfully united with the Rochefort squadron of three ships of the line, two frigates and an armed storeship, the captured British fourth rate ship Calcutta, commanded by Commodore Gilbert-Amable Faure. Together the French fleet, now numbering 11 ships of the line, withdrew from the relatively open Basque Roads anchorage into the narrow channel under the batteries of the Île-d'Aix known as the Aix Roads. These waters offered greater protection from the British fleet, but were also extremely hazardous; on 26 February, as the French manoeuvred into the shallower waters of their new anchorage the 74-gun Jean-Bart grounded on the Palles Shoal off Île Madame, and was wrecked.

Some of these songs were received negatively by critics. Capdevielle returned in 1988, with Nouvel âge, which remains one of his lesser-known albums. This album also featured personal reflection and dark inferences. The album Vue sur cour was released in 1990, and also went relatively unnoticed. In 1992, Capdevielle explored blues-rock with the album Vertigo, which was recorded in Nashville (this record is also largely unknown). Besides his musical career, Capdevielle achieved other artistic pursuits of various forms; he hosted a TV Show, Les Totems du Bataclan between 1985 and 1986; and in 1986, he acted in a telefilm L'Enigme des Sables directed by Philippe Valois. He also co-founded a production company with Paco Rabanne, Cadrages, which produced the feature film, directed by Mira Nair, Salaam Bombay that won the Caméra d’Or at the 41st Cannes Film Festival in 1988. He also authored Linda William's musical success Traces released in 1988 and, the same year, participated to the charitable French song "Liban" with other French artists.

In the year XII, he was made a French legionnaire in Pluviôse and an officer of the order on 25 Prairial. He received the latter again in February 1809. He fought in 1809 at the battle of Sables-d'Olonne, employing three frigates to force the retreat of six British ships-of-the-line. On 5 July 1814, La Gravière was named a knight of Saint Louis. On 13 November of that year, he was the commander of a division which went from Rochefort in order to take possession of Île Bourbon. On 10 February 1815, he reached the cape; on 6 April, he installed the new governor of the island; and on 27 August, he moored in the Roadstead of Brest. He was promoted to counter admiral on 28 October 1817, named president of the electoral college of Finistère on 10 March 1819, made a commander of the Legion of Honour on 28 April 1821, and commanded the French Brazil station the same year. Made a Commander of the Order of Saint Louis on 22 May 1825, he commanded the French station for the Antilles and the Gulf of Mexico.

According to chronicles, Galloway repaired the clocks of the Tsesarskaya Tower in 1628, and also "small clocks at the gates [or: small pocket watches, as per Zabelin; meaning is unclear]". When Mikhail Fyodorovich wished to see clocks on the Spassky Tower with more difficult mechanics as before, Galloway agreed and, because of the clocks' placement, also recommended to overbuild a high tower with a thatched roof over the gates, which was done from 1624 to 1625. When the work was finished and the bells controlled the clocks' time, Galloway received on 29 January 1626 from the Tsar and His father, Patriarch Philaret Nikitich, salary of one silver cube, 10 arshin scarlet satin, 10 arshin azure damask, 5 arshin amber-coloured taffeta, 4 arshin raspberry-coloured stuff, forty sables for 41 rubles, forty martens for 12 rubles; altogether cost about 100 rubles. "The Tsar presented him all this for constructing the tower and clocks over the Frolovsky gates in the Kremlin".
