He was an expert on the revenue stamps of Argentina and his multi-volume catalogue on those stamps has become the definitive work on the subject. Akerman produced books and written articles for philatelic journals, including The American Revenuer, The Revenue Journal of Great Britain, The Mainsheet, The London Philatelist, Gibbons Stamp Monthly and The Great Britain Journal.

Inspired by and envious of the $30 a month and free khaki britches and gold buttons of his friend Don Elbie, Snuffy Smith joins the US Army with his dog, Mr. Carson, concealed by an invisibility potion. As fate would have it, his company First Sergeant is Ed Cooper, a former revenuer who had unsuccessfully attempted to locate and destroy Snuffy's still. The clever Don Elbie has invented a new rangefinder that he hopes to have adopted by the army. General Rosewater hopes to test the new rangefinder in war games with a rival general.

While rummaging through the house the player finds her diary and learns which objects need to be collected to make her wildest sexual fantasy come true. While avoiding various pitfalls including her oversexed brothers, her father (who thinks the character is a revenuer) and his dog, the objects described are collected leading to a final encounter with the farmer's daughter in the hayloft. The game is timed by movements so that all objectives must be completed in 180 moves, lest the player misses the tow truck and lose the game. The game is a fairly standard text-based adventure, and despite its risque subject matter, there are no visuals.

Eleanor Lyon married Jack Duke in 1939, the year she graduated from Texas College of Mines (which later became Texas Western College and then UTEP), and lived with him in Louisiana where he worked as a revenuer for ATF before he joined the Army and served in China as a military police during World War II. After the war they lived in El Paso, where he worked as a border agent and she went to work for the college in 1948. With no children of her own, Duke was close to her seven nephews and three nieces – 9 children of her brother William L. Lyon Jr., plus Jack Duke's sister Louise Duke Cross's daughter, all raised in El Paso.

The "revenuers" destroyed many "stills" (distilleries) during this period and sent many moonshiners to the state penitentiary — the typical term of incarceration was one year. (Not uncommonly, an offender would serve his term, be released, and promptly resume production.) Local constables sometimes cooperated with the "revenuers" in busting up the stills, but at other times were themselves participants in moonshine production and distribution.
