According to Octavio Paz, "The interesting thing about him was seeking, restlessness, lack of satisfaction he felt with what he did, which is a symptom of undoubted talent. He was an intelligent man, a critically rare bird." Ecologically, Teraina is also highly interesting, for several reasons. First, as is readily apparent from its peculiar geographical and geological features, it possesses a combination of ecosystems that is quite unique in the entire world. Second, it holds the world's largest population of a rare bird species though it is over from that bird's original home. Furthermore, it was until fairly recently home to some enigmatic dabbling ducks which are now extinct.

Hahn did not mention the date in which he actually saw the bird which could have been long before 1834. The fact that Martinet's image was copied and that no mounted specimen exists (though such a rare bird would probably have been preserved) makes Hahn's account dubious. He may instead have based his account on other sources or even hearsay. If Hahn's account is disregarded, the Mascarene parrot probably became extinct prior to 1800.
At that time it was also designated a rare bird sanctuary. Archeologist Robert S. Carr surveyed the site in 1974, noting a second smaller mound nearby. A rare bird is > that painter who can so clearly expose in a mere image that which is hidden > in the blind darkness of the conscience.Quoted in Warwick (2006), p. 64.
In the early 1950s the only way of communicating new bird sightings was through the postal system and it was generally too late for the recipients to act on the information. In the 1960s people began using the telephone and some people became hubs for communication. In the 1970s some cafes, like the one in Cley, Norfolk run by Nancy Gull, became centers for meeting and communication.

Formerly classified by the IUCN as a critically endangered species with an estimated population of less than 150 adult birds, it was suspected to be more numerous than generally assumed. Following the evaluation of its population status, with an estimated 150 to 300 birds in total on the island, and it is consequently downlisted to Vulnerable status in 2008; it is still an exceedingly rare bird, but successful conservation measures have averted the threat of immediate extinction at least for the time being.BirdLife International (BLI) (2008): [2008 IUCN Redlist status changes] . Dieter Claessens, Niklas Luhmann, and many more. It helped that Schelsky was an outspoken liberal professor, without any ambition to create adherents - a rare bird among German mandarins. He helped another 17 sociologists qualify as lecturers (outnumbering in this any other professor in the Humanities and Social Sciences) and anticipated the boom in sociological chairs at German universities. Manning them, he was professionally even more successful than the outstanding remigrants René König (Cologne) and Otto Stammer (Berlin) - the Frankfurt School starting to be of influence only after 1968.
Once, when shown a manuscript in the rare bird seal script, he was so absorbed by it that he read and copied it overnight. During the Later Han dynasty, Liu Yun—a cousin of the Later Han emperor Liu Chengyou—was named the military governor of Wuning Circuit (武寧, headquartered in Xu Prefecture) in 948. Guo Zhongshu, who was around 19 at that time, went to Xu Prefecture and served as a prefectural judge () under him. In late 950, military governor Guo Wei rebelled and quickly captured the capital Daliang (also known as Kaifeng).
The stories were published as a book by Rare Bird Books in July 2018. The film was both a commercial and critical failure, just barely breaking even with its budget and being awarded the Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Picture, tying with Bo Derek's Ghosts Can't Do It. However, it has since achieved worldwide cult status, and it has gone under critical re-evaluation in Hungary, Spain, and Norway. Moreover, Billy Idol's "Cradle of Love" became one of his biggest hits on the Billboard Hot 100 (peaking at #2).
This led to a number of publications in ornithological journals. Stoddard documented several rare bird records for the state of Wisconsin including the first definitive specimen of the European Starling in 1923. In 1924 Stoddard was recruited by the U.S. Bureau of Biological Survey, a predecessor bureau to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, to study northern bobwhite quail (Colinus virginianus) in northern Florida and southern Georgia. Bobwhite quail populations had recently been in decline and a study was launched to investigate the causes, and what could be done to reverse the trend.
The phrase "black swan" derives from a Latin expression; its oldest known occurrence is from the 2nd-century Roman poet Juvenal's characterization in his Satire VI of something being "rara avis in terris nigroque simillima cygno" ("a rare bird in the lands and very much like a black swan"). When the phrase was coined, the black swan was presumed not to exist. The importance of the metaphor lies in its analogy to the fragility of any system of thought. A set of conclusions is potentially undone once any of its fundamental postulates is disproved.

Outside China only Japan and South Korea keep this species. On September 25, 2008, the Sado Japanese Crested Ibis Preservation Center released 10 of the birds as part of its crested ibis restoration program, which aims to introduce 60 ibises into the wild by 2015. This marks the first time the rare bird has returned to the Japanese wild since 1981. On April 23, 2012, it was confirmed that three crested ibis chicks had hatched on Sado Island in Niigata Prefecture, the first time chicks had hatched in the wild in Japan in 36 years.
Hoy was an acclaimed at archery and shooting, and in September 1830 he won first prize in the Southampton New Forest Archers' competition, having "'distinguished himself by the accuracy of his aim" in July of that year. He collected rare bird specimens as a hobby. On 10 September 1831, after Hoy had lost his parliamentary seat, he married Marian D'Oyley, the daughter and heiress of Shearman Bird who owned Harold's Park near Waltham Abbey in Essex. Following the dissolution of Parliament in 1837, her health was declining the couple moved abroad.
Consequently, scholars like Octavio Paz argue, religion became a way for women to avoid marriage. Since Sor Juana was opposed to marriage, Paz argues, entering the convent was a socially acceptable way to be a single woman in seventeenth century Mexico. Entering the convent also meant that Sor Juana could read and write about religion despite the barriers to formal education for women. O’Donnell argues that Sor Juana was called a rare bird because although theology was only an acceptable pursuit for men in the Catholic Church, she actively studied religion.
The world of birds is represented by 102 species of nesting birds found in the broader park area. The nesting bird group includes a community of birds inhabiting rocks and cliffs in the canyons of Velika Paklenica and Mala Paklenica, with 24 bird species. A special value is added to the park by the endangered and rare bird species such as the golden eagle, peregrine falcon, short-toed eagle and goshawk. Forest areas are rich with woodpeckers, the rarest among them being the white-backed woodpecker and middle spotted woodpecker.
During this time, the band met with various record labels regarding contract offers. Initial discussions with Chris Blackwell of Island and Chris Wright of Chrysalis were unsuccessful. In March 1970, during the band's six-week Tuesday night residency at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in Soho, members of Rare Bird, who Genesis had supported earlier, recommended the band to producer and A&R; man John Anthony of Charisma Records. Anthony attended one of their shows and enjoyed them enough to convince his boss, label owner Tony Stratton-Smith, to watch their next appearance.
Only a single known hoax involving a record submitted to BBRC has become public. In autumn 1994, Nigel Pepper, a birdwatcher from Essex, claimed to have recorded a hermit thrush in a garden in Chipping Ongar. Doubts about the record were raised in Birdwatch and BBRC reviewed the record in 2002, but decided that it should stand. In 2009, Nigel Pepper came clean and revealed in Birdwatch magazine (Birdwatch 204: 46-47) that the record was actually a hoax, made in protest at perceived suppression of rare bird records in the county.

Distraught by the claim, Charles shoots Emma's goanna, and turns the gun on himself. Hissao claims he will not give up architecture in order to preserve the family business by becoming an animal smuggler, but does so, and becomes wealthy and much-travelled. He accidentally kills a rare bird he is smuggling, whereupon he sells much of his share in the business to Japanese investors and commences rebuilding the emporium to his own design, according to which it becomes a bizarre and controversial museum of the Australian nation.
There is a small stone statue of Agathiyar at the top of the peak and the devotees can offer pujas themselves. Druridge Bay, Northumberland, where the curlew was sighted The bird in question was found by an unknown birdwatcher on Monday 4 May 1998 and was first identified as a whimbrel. The birder reported the whimbrel to Tim Cleeves who, uncertain of the bird's identification, contacted a number of other birdwatchers from the Northumberland and Tyneside areas and asked them to come to Druridge to give an opinion. The bird was watched by six observers until 20.50 hours that evening. News of the bird was broadcast on the national rare bird information services.
Donna Loren in 2015 Loren is working on new songwriting and recording projects and a full memoir. Throughout 2015, Loren released YouTube videos as she relearnt 100 songs that she recorded and/or performed in the 1960s; a project that she continued in 2016. In July 2017, Pop Sixties: Shindig!, Dick Clark, Beach Party, and Photographs from the Donna Loren Archive, a photographic retrospective of Loren's career with narrative by Loren and Domenic Priore, and photos largely by her adopted father Morey Zukor, was released by Rare Bird Books.
The second major cause was the widespread deforestation of the lowlands of the North Island by European settlers to create pasture for agriculture. Most of these forests were ancient, ecologically complex primary forests, and huia were unable to survive in regenerating secondary forests. It was already a rare bird before the arrival of Europeans, confined to the Ruahine, Tararua, Rimutaka and Kaimanawa mountain ranges in the south-east of the North Island. It was remarkable for having the most pronounced sexual dimorphism in bill shape of any bird species in the world.
First women at the South Pole Pam Young, Jean Pearson, Lois Jones, Eileen McSaveney, Kay Lindsay and Terry Tickhill Pamela Margaret Young (née Rawlinson) was the first New Zealand woman to live and work in Antarctica. In 1969–70, she worked at Cape Bird as field assistant to her husband Euan, a biologist, and was among the first six women to fly to the South Pole. She wrote a book about her trip (Penguin summer or a rare bird in Antarctica). The Young Peaks in Antarctica are named after her.

On July 4, 2011, Nicky Sanders was featured in a performance of "Orange Blossom Special" with Martin and SCR at the Capitol Fourth celebration on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol Building.
It is also of significance to the Zulu people, whose kings and warriors wore a single or many feathers as a headdress. Natlia Because of the association with warriors and heroism, the Isitwalandwe Medal was created to honour those who had "made an outstanding contribution and sacrifice to the liberation struggle", that is, those who resisted the apartheid regime in South Africa (1949−1991) in various ways. Isitwalandwe means "the one who wears the plumes of the rare bird", or blue crane. The blue crane is also the national bird of South Africa.
In 1970, the group was renamed 'Steve Rowland and The Family Dogg'. In April 1970, they had a Number 2 hit in the Netherlands with the song "Sympathy", previously recorded by the group Rare Bird in 1969. In 1972, Steve Rowland released a last Family Dogg album, The View from Rowland's Head, with guest musicians Chris Spedding on guitar and Ireen Sheer as singer. Fields was an English progressive rock band formed in 1971 by drummer Andrew McCulloch, keyboardist Graham Field, and bassist-vocalist Alan Barry. McCulloch had previously been a member of King Crimson, appearing on the band's third album Lizard. Field founded Rare Bird in 1968 and departed in early 1971, and Barry was a former member of The Dowlands (aka The Dowland Brothers, 1962-1963) with the Giles brothers Peter and Michael who would eventually become members of King Crimson. Fields released one eponymous album in 1971,} and one single from the album, "A Friend of Mine", in 1973.
They did record a second album in 1972 with ex-Supertramp bassist-vocalist Frank Farrell replacing the departed Alan Barry, but the record was shelved by CBS and not initially released. The master tapes of this album were re-mastered and released as Contrasts: Urban Roar to Country Peace in 2015, with the full involvement of Graham Field. According to Field, CBS management changed and "the new faces did not want to know us", so the group disbanded. Field had the rights to the name Rare Bird, and returned to working in that area and in television themes.
On a challenge set earlier by Lucille, Raoul uses this to get the best seats at Lucille's show at "The Rare Bird", where Francoeur (disguised) and Lucille sing as a duet. However, unknown to Lucille, the effects of the potion aren’t permanent and Francoeur is slowly shrinking down to his normal size. After the show, Emile and Raoul congratulate Lucille on her show, but Lucille accidentally reveals the identity of Francoeur, which Albert (who overheard her confession) reports to the police. Emile, Raoul, and Francoeur narrowly escape and Albert is arrested on suspicion of lying to the police.

Also, one can visit places like Asan Barrage, which has now become a world-renowned hotspot for bird watching. Many national and international ornithologists come here to observe rare and very rare bird species which come here from as far as Siberia, Russia. Close by is Ranpur Mandi, a mini zoo on the bank of Yamuna where one can see some local fauna and get some peace on the banks of ever vibrant water of Yamuna. Also the walk near Shakti Nahar at Dhakrani Colony is a peaceful experience in itself as the natural flora, and mountains studded with greenery surround it.
In 1915, John Dewey and his daughter Evelyn featured the Cottage School in their book, The Schools of To-Morrow, which examined how progressive schools around the country put new educational ideas into action.Dewey and Dewey 1915, pp. 85–86, 90–91, 227. They were especially struck by how prominently nature featured in school life, noting that: > [T]hey have, for example, a rare bird that is as much a personality in > school life as any of the children, and the children, having cared for him > and watched his growth and habits, have become much more interested in wild > birds.
For the Edinburgh production of 2005, the performers were almost universally praised by the critics, but the response to the work itself was profoundly divided. Of the reviews which dealt more substantially with the opera itself, the British Theatre Guides Peter Latham described the Edinburgh production as "a powerful piece, powerfully performed. … Political opera is a very rare bird, even today, and this piece is one to be cherished," while asserting that "it is right that opera should take on such subjects" and noting that Burstein's music was "more melodic than most modern opera." She began her writing career in poetry, and then switched to fiction because, as she reported in an interview, "I was an awful poet." Krouse's short story collection, Come Up and See Me Sometime (Scribner, 2001), won the Paterson Prize, was translated into six languages, was a New York Times Notable book of the year, and was described by New York Times Book Review critic Maria Russo as "[leaving] us with a feeling of unbounded, exhilarating possibility." Her novel, Contenders, was published in 2015 (Rare Bird Books)." Western Lit: Erika Krouse's Novel 'Contenders' Is Full of Welcome Surprises, Surprising Upheavals".
Hewitson visited Ronas Hill and wrote of his experience: > Our main object was to get some eggs of the Skua Gull...and had soon the > pleasure of examining one of these fine birds, first on the wing and > afterwards dead at our feet. We went to their head-quarters and were much > disappointed in not seeing more of them. They were once abundant here but > the last year a man of the name of Dunn, a bird stuffer from Hull, for his > own private gain nearly extirpated this rare bird. Regional species checklists are available for more than 20,000 regions of the world. This includes all countries, territories and dependencies, and most regions defined in the GADM subnational layers such as provinces, states, prefectures, counties, departments, municipalities and districts (GADM levels 1 and 2), as well as over 2,500 islands. Regional checklists are available in several taxonomic formats, and can also incorporate common names in a variety of languages. Data for regional checklists has come from a wide number of sources, such as the eBird EBD dataset and forums such as the Facebook Global Rare Bird Alert.
Mayumba is home to a very relaxed pace of life, but for those with energy to spare after a hard morning of tanning, swimming or sampling the local seafood, there are several good walks to be had in and around the town, with excellent views of the lagoon and the ocean. The seashore itself draws walkers like a magnet, and the wild coast to the immediate south of the town offers hiking limited only by your own stamina. Return home through the savannah for the chance to catch a glimpse of a rare bird or a sitatunga antelope.
Rodd was an ardent ornithologist, and especially interested in the question of migration. He studied minutely the avifauna of Cornwall, and it was entirely due to his exertion that many a rare bird was rescued from oblivion, while several species were added by him to the list of British birds. He contributed upwards of twenty papers on ornithological matters to The Zoologist, the Ibis, and the Journal of the Royal Institution of Cornwall from 1843 onwards. His collection of at least forty-five cases with 270 specimens, mostly from Cornwall, passed to his nephew Francis R Rodd, at Trebartha Hall, Launceston.
This was the highest-charting Stackridge album in the UK, reaching no. 23. A different version of the album was released in the U.S. under the title Pinafore Days and became their only U.S. chart entry, peaking at no. 191, although a US tour never materialised. Almost as soon as the album was finished the band were joined by Keith Gemmell from Audience; and shortly thereafter Evans, Slater, Sparkle, Walter, and Warren all departed the band and were replaced by Rod Bowkett (keyboards), Rare Bird member Paul Karas (bass), and Roy Morgan (drums), as Davis took full control of the band.
The melampittas are found in the highlands of New Guinea The melampittas are birds of the New Guinean rainforest and are generally montane species as well, with the range of the lesser melampitta reaching as high as , with a usual range of around . The greater melampitta is restricted to areas of rugged limestone karst with sinkholes that it apparently roosts and even nests in. In the Kumawa Mountains Jared Diamond found that that species inhabited a range of . Both species have a discontinuous distribution across New Guinea, and the greater melampitta is generally a rare bird that is seldom encountered, although this may because it lives in rarely-visited areas.
In the 20th century most of the birding activity in North America was done on the east coast. The publication of Roger Tory Peterson's field guide in 1934 led to the initial increase in birding. Binoculars, an essential piece of birding equipment, became more easily available after World War II, making the hobby of birding more widely accessible. The practice of travelling long distances to see rare bird species was aided by the rising popularity of cars.Moss 2004:265 About 4% of North Americans were interested in birding in the 1970s and in the mid-1980s at least 11% were found to watch birds at least 20 days of the year.
Their messages mimic the cryptic postcards of mid-century travelers, too busy like real ornithologists absorbing the fleeting movement of a rare bird to worry much about the kids back home. In each tableau the artist executes her painterly gestures while fidgeting with odd wooden scraps as the decisive interventions needed to harmonize the scene. These scraps organize our memory by providing a framework for the art- historical knowledge that reveals itself in an instant when the right strokes are completed. This is the instance of art, the moment when talent and a sense of intellectual tactics converge to balance the real with the imagined.
The American Bantam Association is a poultry fancy association for breeders of bantam poultry. It publishes the Bantam Standard, with detailed descriptions of all the bantam breeds and varieties that it recognizes; in most – but not all – cases, these are the same as those recognised by the American Poultry Association. It also publishes a quarterly magazine and annual yearbook, hosts poultry shows and provides judges for them, and provides information on bantam breeds. It sanctions or has sanctioned a number of poultry shows across the United States held by local groups, such as the Poultry and Rare Bird Show at the Los Angeles County Fair and the Ohio National.
The union refused to announce who had obtained the highest mark and stated that it would not appoint to the position; it was widely believed that Foley was the highest-ranked candidate. Instead, she was given a position of union woman officer, effectively continuing as assistant secretary. In this role, she asked to be permitted to represent the union at meetings and conferences, but permission was refused, the union leadership preferring to be unrepresented than represented by a woman. In later years, Foley stated that "they were afraid to call me the assistant secretary because a woman trade union officer was a very rare bird in those days".
Rare bird species in the area include the federally listed endangered southwestern willow flycatcher (Empidonax traillii extimus), state listed endangered western yellow-billed cuckoo (Coccyzus americanus occidentalis) and the tricolored blackbird (Agelaius tricolor), a species of concern. The South Fork Kern population of southwestern willow flycatcher is one of the largest in the US. The Kern red-winged blackbird is on the state's species of concern list. . Part of the historic nesting area on the South Fork Kern River was lost from land clearing. In 1954, the filling of Lake Isabella reservoir inundated and destroyed several miles of riparian and wetland nesting areas for the Kern red-winged blackbird.
To the north of Codrington is a frigatebird colony, centered on the lagoon's tiny Man of War Island, a forty-minute boat ride from Antigua. The colony, known as the Frigate Bird Sanctuary, is one of the main ecotourism attractions in Barbuda. During the mating season, from September to April, this rare bird displays a huge scarlet throat pouch to attract a female mate; the pair will lay one egg on a nest built precariously on the mangrove. These birds cannot walk or swim; they soar high in the clouds and live solely on fish, which they often steal from other birds, giving them their local name, Man of war.
In his professional life, Francis is sent to audit Thomas Pinto's pet store pursuant to the suspicion that Thomas is profiting from the illegal import of rare bird species. Thomas has been smuggling hyacinth macaw eggs, and his operation is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. Francis is eventually banned from Exotica when Eric manipulates him into touching Christina during one of her dances, which is against the rules of the club. Around the same time, Francis discovers illegal activities in Thomas' financial records, and blackmails Thomas to go to the club to learn about what happened the night he was kicked out.
The Patagonia picnic table effect (also known as the Patagonia rest area effect or Patagonia rest stop effect) is a phenomenon associated with birding in which an influx of birdwatchers following the discovery of a rare bird at a location results in the discovery of further rare birds at that location, and so on, with the end result being that the locality becomes well known for rare birds, even though in itself it may be little or no better than other similar localities. The name arises from the Patagonia Rest Stop in Arizona, where the phenomenon was first noted. As of June, 2020, more than 220 species have been recorded there.
Male on La Digue Nesting female The Seychelles paradise flycatcher (Terpsiphone corvina) is a rare bird from the genus of paradise flycatchers (Terpsiphone) within the family Monarchidae. It is a forest-dwelling bird endemic to the Seychelles where it is native to the island of La Digue. Males have glossy black plumage with elongated tail feathers, while females are reddish-brown with pale underparts and no long tail feathers. The International Union for Conservation of Nature lists this bird as being "critically endangered" and attempts have been made to increase its numbers by relocating some individuals to Denis Island, another island in the Seychelles archipelago.
His most recent theatre role was Macbeth at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse (2018), opposite his wife Michelle Terry as Lady Macbeth. For his role as Macbeth, the Financial Times said: "Ready is a rare bird in that he has an actorly way with oratory, but instead of keeping us at a distance from his character, it clarifies nuances and levels and paradoxically allows us in deeper." Also appearing on television, Ready received notability in 2013 for his role in the television show Utopia. He is best-known for his role as the special adviser to Keeley Hawes’s Home Secretary in BBC series Bodyguard, and Kevin in BBC series Motherland.
Major habitats and land cover types include: typical prairie grasses such as wheat grass, fescue, oat grass and sedges; forest dominated by aspen with shrubs such as rasp, silver willow and hawthorn; a saline lake with rocky islands; farmland cultivated with wheat and barley; and pasture land. The reserve provides habitats for nine endangered, threatened or rare bird species, as well as over 180 other species including the White-winged Scoter (Melanitta fusca), California gull (Larus californicus), ring-billed gull (Larus delawarensis) and piping plovers (Charadrius melodus). A key research activity undertaken in the area is monitoring of American white pelican (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos) nesting sites.
Joseph Di Prisco was born in Greenpoint, Brooklyn to his Italian-American father Joe "Pope" Di Prisco and his Polish mother Catherine "Caza" Di Prisco. At the age of ten, he was shuttled to California by his parents, as his father was on the run from federal and local law enforcement after a career as a small-time hustler, gambler, bookmaker, petty criminal, con artist, and confidential informant. Joseph Di Prisco learned the detailed story of his father's criminal career when he came upon transcripts of New York State Appellate Division trials in which his father was the star witness. Di Prisco wrote about this discovery in his memoir The Pope of Brooklyn (Rare Bird Books, 2017).

In 2012, she had a life-changing meeting with Leonard Cohen with whom she soon shared a manager; the two sponsored her for an O-1B artist visa so that she could write in America. Her debut novel, The Sex Girl, was published by Rare Bird Books in July of 2015. From 2013 to 2015, she hosted the interview podcast Coffee with Alice that featured guests such as Benmont Tench, Jackson Browne, Moby, Bill Pullman, Janet Fitch, Mike Campbell, Phil Hendrie, and many more. Carbone Tench is also one of the few women who, without media backing, interviewed George Christie, one of the most notorious and controversial figures in the Hells Angels.
He was sentenced in December 1964 in the little Rivonia Trial and sent to Robben Island, where he met Nelson Mandela and Govan Mbeki. During his imprisonment, he was one of three prisoners – along with Mandela and Mac Maharaj – planning to escape during a visit to a dentist in Cape Town. They called their escape plan off when they suspected a police trap setting them up for assassination. Mkwayi was released from Robben Island on 15 October 1989. In 1992, he was honoured with the ANC’s highest award, Isitwalandwe Medal (““the one who wears the plumes of the rare bird.”) awarded to those who have made an outstanding contribution and sacrifice to the liberation struggle.
Leopold studied at the University of Chicago under Woods among others, obtaining a degree with honours while still a teen, and was had inherited from Woods a great interest in this rare bird, having his chauffeur drive him and his ornithology enthusiast companions to the Michigan pine woods to obtain specimens and make observations. In his scientific journal articles he published a number of important discoveries. One was that the age of the jack pines in a stand is the most pertinent determinant in the suitability of a particular terrain as a breeding habitat for the species, and another discovery was that the population was subject to a deleterious brood parasitism by the brown-headed cowbird.

The bass quickly took to its new home and caused a radical change in the species composition of the lake. The predatory bass caused the elimination of more than two-thirds of the native fish species in the lake and contributed to the extinction of the Atitlan grebe, a rare bird that lived only in the vicinity of Lake Atitlán. A unique aspect of the climate is what is referred to as Xocomil (of the Kaqchickel language meaning "the wind that carried away sin"). This wind is common late morning and afternoon across the lake; it is said to be the encounter of warm winds from Pacific meeting colder winds from the North.

During these events Sergey was detained twice for a month each time. To avoid more serious punishment Paramonov was helped by the privatdozent Viktor Kazanovsky's protection. In 1915 Sergey Paramonov published his first scientific note "On the record of the spotted cuckoo in Bessarabian Government" in the Ornithological Journal. He found, a very rare bird in the Russian Empire, the spotted cuckoo by himself while he was having a holiday at his parents' in Cioburciu. In spite of World War I and the collapse of the Russian Empire, Sergey managed to successfully graduate from Kiev University in 1917 and to get a job at the Kiev's station of plant pest control, where Viktor Kazanovsky worked as a director.
Luttrell was in London at the time of Mary I's accessionBall The Judges in Ireland but returned to Dublin and died there the following year. He was a wealthy man, due partly to his acquisition of monastic lands: his will refers to numerous objects of gold and silver, and in 1538 he was able to present Thomas Cromwell with a goshawk, which was always a very rare bird in Ireland, and therefore much prized. Though he outwardly conformed to the Church of Ireland, on his deathbed he requested prayers for the salvation of his soul, and was suspected of remaining a Roman Catholic at heart.Lennon, Colm Sixteenth-century Ireland- the Incomplete Conquest Gill and Macmillan 1994 p.

In 2000, eight of the 22 members of Riverkeeper's board resigned after Kennedy insisted on rehiring William Wegner, a scientist whom the organization's then-president, Boyle, had fired as soon as he had learned Wegner had been hired six months earlier. In 1995, Wegner had been convicted of smuggling rare bird eggs from Australia and had also pled guilty to tax evasion. Boyle and the board members who resigned believed it was not right for an environmental organization to hire someone convicted of environmental crimes, especially since critics would not hesitate to publicize that fact to gain a publicity advantage. Treasurer John Fry, who also resigned, felt it would hurt the organization's fundraising.

As the plot involves more excitement and violence than usual, with the egg-collector attempting to shoot the rare bird of the title, some have classified this book as one of the metafictional stories in the series: a fantasy tale made up by the children themselves. The other two books generally agreed to be metafictional are Peter Duck and Missee Lee. However, Arthur Ransome himself made it clear that this story was not metafiction. Writing to Myles North, discussing the book's dedication, he says: :...At all costs it must do nothing to weaken the reality ... nothing to suggest that it is a mere story and not the record of an actual happening, even if for bird protection's sake, the details are somewhat disguised.

He particularly praised the quality of the photos (many of which Forsman took himself), which were also praised by other reviewers. In a review for the British Trust for Ornithology website, Su Gough wrote "every bit of this book strikes you with the sheer amount of work and knowledge that has gone into it". Jones, as well as Andy Stoddart, in an otherwise positive review for the website Rare Bird Alert, did comment that the book lacked coverage of the sanctijohannis subspecies of the rough-legged hawk, and that a photograph of the dark morph could have been included. Several reviewers shows how difficult raptor identification is, due to the large number of possible hybrids as well as variation within species.
Rare Bird Films most recent project is the Hulu Original, "Tiny Shoulders: Rethinking Barbie" which premiered at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival in the US, at Hot Docs in Canada, and began airing on Hulu in April, 2018. In the film, Andrea Nevins uses Barbie, the toy icon, as a lens to examine the past 60 years of feminism in the United States. The film weaves interviews with feminists and historians like Gloria Steinem, Roxane Gay, Peggy Orenstein and Amanda Foreman with a behind-the-scene look at how a toy giant attempts to reinvent a doll that embodied an antiquated perception of femininity. The United States State Department chose "Tiny Shoulders" as part of its 2018 film diplomacy program, American Film Showcase.

On September 13, 2005, The Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York premiered an exhibition about Iris Apfel's style entitled Rara Avis (Rare Bird): The Irreverent Iris Apfel. It was the museum's first time showcasing an exhibit about clothing and accessories focused on a living person who wasn't a designer. The success of the exhibition, curated by Stéphane Houy-Towner, prompted an initial traveling version of the exhibit at the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach, Florida, the Nassau County Museum of Art in Roslyn Harbor, New York, and later at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts. The Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History in Boynton Beach, Florida, is designing a building that will house a dedicated gallery of Apfel's clothes, accessories, and furnishings.

He served in a similar capacity for the Dead reunion shows at Alpine Valley in 2002.Dave Hoekstra, "Grateful Cheddarheads", Chicago Sun-Times, August 5, 2002 The 2015 Billboard piece that first shared the cover for John Popper's memoir, also revealed that Budnick's next project was a “Grateful-Dead themed novel. Rare Bird Books published Might As Well in the spring of 2016. One reviewer described it as “a highly entertaining (and wildly funny) fictionalized multi-character account of a Grateful Dead show, which details the experience of both the lot scene and an actual show (for those who could get tickets) at Brendan Byrne Arena in the fall of 1989.” Budnick later revealed in an interview that the general excitement from the Fare Thee Well shows had inspired him to revisit the band's touring days.
The show was different for its time because it strayed from conventional educational shows that simply presented information and instead, combined entertainment with education, which was appealing to new audiences. By the fall of 1960, the show was being aired on the National Educational Television (NET) network, which consisted of more than 50 stations, and was the first show to come from KRMA-TV that gained national exposure. In the winter of 1960, the Sunday Denver Post quoted John F. White, the president of National Education Television and Radio Center as saying of Case: "In Case, one observes a rare bird who combines executive ability, creative talent, an educational philosophy and exceptional professional broadcasting experience and quality standards." By 1964, educational stations that had rerun the series numerous times made the show the most watched noncommercial series of the time.
Peace was himself replaced by Graeme Swaddle (formerly with legendary Tyneside psych band Dead Flowers), who'd remain the band's longterm drummer. In 1994, Sleepy People issued their first album Blunt Nails In A Sharp Wall. The songs – based on a broad template of tightly-played psychedelic pop – were eccentric and sometimes absurdist, with ingredients veering from the disco stylings of "Sordid Sentimental" to the Gong-inspired sprightliness of "Mr Marconi's Unusual Theory", the full-on progressive rock fantasia of "Rare Bird At The Window" and the harder-rocking "Nicky's Little Army" (the latter inspired by the orphanages in Nicolae Ceaușescu's Romania). Originally put out as a self- released cassette (with distribution help from the "Organ" fanzine, who'd supported the band from the early days), the album was eventually re-released on CD by Org Records in 1999.

Illustration of Darwin's rhea, published in 1841 in John Gould's description of birds collected on the voyage of HMS Beagle During the second voyage of HMS Beagle, the young naturalist Charles Darwin made many trips on land, and around August 1833 heard from gauchos in the Río Negro area of Northern Patagonia about the existence of a smaller rhea, "a very rare bird which they called the Avestruz Petise". He continued searching fruitlessly for this bird, and the Beagle sailed south, putting in at Port Desire in southern Patagonia on 23 December. On the following day, Darwin shot a guanaco which provided them with a Christmas meal, and in the first days of January, the artist Conrad Martens shot a rhea which they enjoyed eating before Darwin realised that this was the elusive smaller rhea rather than a juvenile, and preserved the head, neck, legs, one wing, and many of the larger feathers. As with his other collections, these were sent to John Stevens Henslow in Cambridge.
With her colleagues, she clarified the taxonomy of Indonesian white-eyes, establishing the specific status of the Sangihe white- eye Zosterops nehrkorni and the Seram white-eye Z. stalkeri and confirmed the identity of the Serendib scops owl which had originally been discovered in Sri Lanka by local ornithologist Deepal Warakagoda. The Togian white-eye, identified as a new species by Rasmussen and her colleagues in 2008 The imperial pheasant is a rare bird found in the forests of Vietnam and Laos. Rasmussen and her co-workers used morphology, hybridisation experiments, and DNA analysis to show that this pheasant, previously thought critically endangered, is actually a naturally occurring hybrid between the Vietnamese pheasant Lophura hatinhensis and the subspecies annamensis of the silver pheasant L. nycthemera. A 2008 paper saw a return to white-eye taxonomy with the formal description of the Togian white-eye Zosterops somadikartai, an endemic species of the Togian Islands of Indonesia, which, unlike most of its relatives, lacks the white ring around the eye which give this group of birds its name.
