José Ignacio Flores de Vergara y Ximénez de Cárdenas, the "Pacificator of Peru," (b. Latacunga, Ecuador, 1733; d. Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1786), second-born son of don Antonio Flores, the 1st Marquis of Miraflores, was the first governor of the province of Moxos from 1772 to 1781 and the 20th president of the Royal Court of Charcas from 1781 to 1785. A refined and cultured man, he embodied the best human qualities of optimism, generosity and idealism of the Spanish American enlightenment in the late 18th century.

Sigerson Clifford died in Glenageary, County Dublin on 1 January 1985, aged 71, and was interred in Kilnavarnogue Cemetery in his native Cahersiveen, with a graveside oration by his fellow Kerry author and playwright, John B Keane. A monument in memory of Sigerson Clifford is located in Cahersiveen. Clifford wrote a number of poems and plays, including The Great Pacificator, which was staged at the Abbey Theatre, Dublin, in 1947. Clifford is best remembered for his poem, The Boys of Barr na Sráide, which was named after a street in Cahersiveen.

In the Netherlands at the time, Van Heutsz was considered a hero, named the 'Pacificator of Aceh' and was promoted to the position of Governor-General in 1904. His efforts boosted support for imperialism in Dutch society and government while weakening the position of anti-imperialists.

In his Notes on Dryden's Virgil, in a Letter to a Friend, with an Essay on the same Poet, London, 1698. In order to demonstrate his own superiority, Milbourne supplemented criticisms by specimens of his own translation of the first and fourth Eclogues and the first Georgic. Dryden complained in the preface to the Fables (1700) that his critic's scurrility was unprovoked. One of Milbourne's avowed reasons for not sparing Dryden was that Dryden had never spared a clergyman. Dryden replied that if he had fallen foul of the priesthood he had only to ask pardon of good priests, and was afraid Milbourne's ‘part of the reparation would come to little.’ ‘I am satisfied,’ he concludes, ‘that while he and I live together I shall not be thought the worst poet of the age.’ The morals of Milbourne, who, according to Dryden, had lost his living for libelling his parishioners, were severely handled in a poem entitled The Pacificator, 1699.

His functions as Civil Governor occurred during a period of great change in the administrative district, a period of great social tension and politics that resulted in Horta becoming a strategic point for the submarine cables and a port for international replenishment. This opinion that governor Moreira de Carvalho was a pacificator in a district that lived in a period of tension was reinforced by Dr. José Joaquim Gomes Belo, then rector of the Horta Lyceum, when he took up his post: :"...does not offset the assertion that for this peace [which you can enjoy here now] and who all play an active role, we must not fail to recognize that it was he your great worker. It was he who was able to bring together and give conscience to our desires and to live without hardships that overlapped the saturation and fatigue brought on by struggles woven of a lack of understanding, of injured vanities or malnourished pride." As Gomes Belo put it, Carvalho' s three years in office were "three years of peace", and that they "require our gratitude", referring to the populous of the district.
