As Selderhuis notes, for Bucer, "When people conduct themselves lasciviously, either as married or unmarried folk, they fall under divine judgement... Marriage... [is] the context in which sexual intimacy should have its place... Marriage is, after all, the only framework within which sexual desires can be legitimately satisfied." Immanuel Kant, who was raised as a Pietist, considered sex before marriage to be immoral. He argued that sexual desire objectifies the person you crave and, since no logically consistent ethical rule allows you to use a person as an object, it is immoral to have sex (outside marriage). Marriage makes the difference because, in marriage, the two people give all of themselves to create a union and, thus, now have rights over each other as each now belongs to the other.

Sympathy towards nonhuman animals and recognizing that the same dominant power is abusing all of the oppressed is essential to ending all oppression because "humans have an innate sense of sympathy and that this is the basis for moral awareness", and are therefore able to make the moral and sympathetic connections between human experiences and nonhuman experiences. These can include the connection mothers will feel to cows being exploited for their milk, or the understanding among "people of color, women, gays, and lesbians [who] all know the experience of being hunted-of being "prey" in Western culture." Vegetarian ecofeminists argue that as feminists, those who recognize the domination of the patriarchal power, should also recognize the way in which it dominates and objectifies nonhuman animals, and should therefore feel a moral obligation to end not only women's oppression, but animals' oppression as well.

Students at the University of Exeter voted for a condemnation of the lyrics to be issued by the Students' Guild. In Marshfield, Wisconsin, Lisa Joling, head coach of the Marshfield High School dance team, was fired in August 2013, three days after a halftime performance by her dance class to the song. Jennifer Lai of Slate, while noting that the video "undoubtedly objectifies women", countered criticism that the song itself connotes rape by citing lyrics such as "go ahead/get at me" and "So I'm just watchin' and waitin'/ for you to salute the truly pimpin'", among others, in which Robin and T.I. invite the woman's own sexual agency and are "putting the ball in her court". Lai also states: Thicke, noting that all three male singers are married and have children, said that the Diane Martel-directed video was tongue-in-cheek.

In Practical Memories, Canon remembers a beautiful vegetable garden that he discovered during his daily trips from Sarriá (Spain) to Barcelona. This is an excerpt that shows Canon's style: The windmills quivered soundlessly at the slightest blow of breeze and drops or trickles of water gathered at the pond to be distributed, as dew, as cleaning or underground water with temperature and fertilizers that allow the early exuberant growth of small red radishes, artistically clustered here, and there minute cucumbers, now compact ivory lettuce, and in its season, the coveted succulent asparagus and even the ridged watercress... The memory of this orchard is a comparison that Canon uses to discuss the situation of cultivation and the use of land in the Philippines. In 1921 Fernando Canon published his narrative poem A la Laguna de Bay; the poem objectifies to show how Philippine esoteric knowledge and spirituality can intertwine with technology, philosophical thinking, and modernity.
