Proteins and important plastics like Nylons, Aramid, Twaron, and Kevlar are polymers whose units are connected by amide groups (polyamides); these linkages are easily formed, confer structural rigidity, and resist hydrolysis. Amides include many other important biological compounds, as well as many drugs like paracetamol, penicillin and LSD.

After the war ended, DuPont went back to selling nylon to the public, engaging in another promotional campaign in 1946 that resulted in an even bigger craze, triggering the so-called nylon riots. Micah Barnes (born May 30, 1960) is a Canadian pop singer-songwriter. He has performed both as a solo artist and with the bands Loudboy and The Nylons. The oil has been shown to consist of 55-60% erucic acid. Caprolactam molecule used to synthesize Nylon 6 by ring opening polymerization Nylon 6 or polycaprolactam is a polymer developed by Paul Schlack at IG Farben to reproduce the properties of nylon 6,6 without violating the patent on its production. (Around the same time, Kohei Hoshino at Toray also succeeded in synthesizing nylon 6.) It is a semicrystalline polyamide. Unlike most other nylons, nylon 6 is not a condensation polymer, but instead is formed by ring- opening polymerization; this makes it a special case in the comparison between condensation and addition polymers. 3D printer Engineering plastics are a group of plastic materials that have better mechanical and/or thermal properties than the more widely used commodity plastics (such as polystyrene, PVC, polypropylene and polyethylene). Being more expensive, engineering plastics are produced in lower quantities and tend to be used for smaller objects or low-volume applications (such as mechanical parts), rather than for bulk and high-volume ends (like containers and packaging). The term usually refers to thermoplastic materials rather than thermosetting ones. Examples of engineering plastics include acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), used for car bumpers, dashboard trim and Lego bricks; polycarbonates, used in motorcycle helmets and optical discs; and polyamides (nylons), used for skis and ski boots.

A biography on the life of their drummer Jerry Nolan is titled "Stranded in the Jungle." Dolls lead singer David Johansen included a live version of it on his 1982 album, Live It Up. Other bands to make versions of "Stranded in the Jungle" include Crazy Joe and the Variable Speed Band (1981), the Mighty Flyers (1984), Big Dipper (1990), The Nylons (1996), and Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen (2007). In 1998 the Los Angeles-based punk-rock combo Voodoo Glow Skulls covered the song but with a much faster and harder tempo. Carothers and his team synthesized a number of different polyamides including polyamide 6.6 and 4.6, as well as polyesters. General condensation polymerization reaction for nylon It took DuPont twelve years and US$27 million to refine nylon, and to synthesize and develop the industrial processes for bulk manufacture. With such a major investment, it was no surprise that Du Pont spared little expense to promote nylon after its introduction, creating a public sensation, or "nylon mania". Nylon mania came to an abrupt stop at the end of 1941 when the US entered World War II. The production capacity that had been built up to produce nylon stockings, or just nylons, for American women was taken over to manufacture vast numbers of parachutes for fliers and paratroopers.

The Second World War brought the populations of Britain, Germany and France into intimate contact with Americans and American culture. The war brought hundreds of thousands of GIs whose relaxed, easy-going manner was seen by young people of the time as the very embodiment of liberation; and with them came Lucky Strikes, nylons, swing and jazz—the American Cool. To be cool or hip meant hanging out, pursuing sexual liaisons, displaying the appropriate attitude of narcissistic self-absorption, and expressing a desire to escape the mental straitjacket of all ideological causes. Until the 1990s there was a practice that sitting members of the UK Parliament (MPs) who were barristers were (if they wished) appointed QC, sometimes known as a "courtesy" or even "false" silk (or sarcastically "nylons" being artificial silks), on reaching a certain level of seniority, of around fifteen years, at the bar (though not automatically on election when they were more junior). According to Nylons Allison Stubblebine, the video is "drenched in absolute excess and opulence", with Madonna "lounging in a formal gown alongside a silk-pajama-wearing Maluma" and "stomping down the dining table in a veiled cowboy hat to her new husband", and calling it "one hell of a party". Shakiel Mahjouri from Entertainment Tonight Canada called "Medellín" a "visually-stunning" music video in which Madonna "brings her rebellious spirit, using dance and song, into another dimension".

Kurt's illustrated/designed album covers include The Shuffle Demons, David Wilcox (which received a Juno nomination for best album design – a collaboration with Michael Wrycraft), African Guitar Summit, Don Ross, and the children's entertainers Sho, Mo and the Monkey Bunch. In the late 80's Kurt added his signature visual style to numerous music videos, and art directed Out of My House Roach by the Shuffle Demons, and Let Your Backbone Slide and Drop The Needle (which received Juno and Much Music Awards) by pioneering Canadian rap artist Maestro Fresh Wes. These videos were extremely popular on Much Music, and the national exposure created opportunities for Kurt to art direct rap-oriented TV commercials. Swinghammer has created performing wardrobe for the Shuffle Demons, a cappella quartet The Nylons, and jugglers The Flying Dutchmen.

He was subsequently a member of The Nylons from 1990 to 1996, and later moved to Los Angeles. In 2003, he collaborated with the house music duo Thunderpuss on the hit dance track "Welcome to My Head", which reached number one on the Billboard club charts. He has also had some roles in film and television, including guest acting roles in the television series Katts and Dog and E.N.G. and a supporting role in the short film The Fairy Who Didn't Want to Be a Fairy Anymore, and as a vocal coach in the Canadian edition of How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?. In 2019, Barnes and Thom Allison collaborated on Knishes 'n Grits, a stage show in which they explored the links between Jewish music and African American music.

These singles and other hits such as "Listen to the Man with the Golden Voice", "Dancing on a String" and "I'm Specialized in You" were also successful in the Netherlands, Germany, France and New Zealand (where "I'm Only Shooting Love" hit number one in June 1984). After moving to Los Angeles from Europe in 1989, Alides' songs have been recorded by such artists as Jennifer Rush, The Nylons, and various European performers. He has established songwriting collaborations with such writers as Charlie Midnight (producer of Alides' last album Can't Wait for Another World together with Dan Hartman), Jackie DeShannon, Pamela Phillips Oland, Dwayne Hitchings, Donny Markowitz, and Todd Smallwood. The versatility of Alides Hidding is reflected in his capacity to adapt to a wide range of songwriting and producing styles.

This line had to be looped (the reference to Dallas changed to "weekend in Vegas") after the November 22, 1963, screening for critics was canceled due to President John F. Kennedy's assassination.

Sheard's recording history has led to over 200 records, as both solo and backup, with such artists as Rita MacNeil, Ian & Sylvia Tyson, Dan Hill, Rita Coolidge, Olivia Newton-John, Mary Margaret O'Hara, Celine Dion, Ronnie Milsap, Colm Wilkinson, Tom Paxton, Willie P. Bennett and The Henrys. Sheard has composed and/or arranged for various artists, including Murray McLauchlan, The Pointer Sisters, The Nylons, Shirley Eikhard, Andrea Martin, Caitlin Hanford and Quartette. His work has appeared on various U.S. television shows, including A&E; Biography, Sunset Beach, Sesame Street, Sesame Park, Showtime, Days of Our Lives, General Hospital and Late Night with David Letterman.

In 1967, Atlanta Constitution columnist Celestine Sibley wrote Dear Store: An Affectionate Portrait of Rich's. In it, she mentioned notable acts by Rich's staff and management, including the cashing of scrip payments made by the City of Atlanta to its schoolteachers during a financial crisis, accepting returns of worn nylons during World War II shortages, and the efforts of their personal shopper service, "Penelope Penn," to find the perfect gift for thousands of customers who wrote to them. The title of the book comes from a letter in which a child offers to trade his younger sister for a toy that he wants. The book also relates the story of Coretta Scott King, who chose to shop at Rich's for a coat to wear in Norway at the ceremony for husband Martin Luther King Jr.'s Nobel Peace Prize.

"Spooky" has also been covered by a number of artists including Dusty Springfield (whose gender- flipped version was featured prominently in the Guy Ritchie film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), Percy Sledge, Martha Reeves, Michel Pagliaro (recorded song in French), Velvet Monkeys, The Jazz Butcher, R.E.M., Imogen Heap, Kid Montana, who issued the song as a single on Les Disques du Crepuscule in 1986, David Sanborn, The Golden Cups, Marc Antoine, Phish, The Nylons, AP Mike, and the Conti Bros. which appeared on the soundtrack to the film The Haunted Mansion in 2003. The song was covered by Poppy in 2012. The song's main riff is sampled in the song "Why's Everybody Always Pickin' on Me?" by Bloodhound Gang, released in 1996, as well as "Something Wicked This Way Comes" by Barry Adamson from the Lost Highway soundtrack released in 1997.

Featured events included an annual Toronto Symphony rendition of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, complete with the firing of the guns from the nearby HMCS Haida, and often performances by well established acts, such as BB King, Glen Campbell, Kenny Rogers, Johnny Cash, Dizzy Gillespie, Pat Metheny and Canadian acts like Lighthouse, Bruce Cockburn, The Nylons, Luba, James Brown, Men Without Hats, Doug and the Slugs, Parachute Club and Red Rider. Unfortunately, due to a riot by Teenage Head fans in 1981 (purportedly instigated by their manager, who allegedly was interested in the publicity) harder rock acts were thereafter banned from the venue. In summer of 1983, the Forum was ahead of the curve by bringing in acts like Paul Young and the Royal Family and Tina Turner just before her huge comeback the following year. The Forum was torn down at the end of the 1994 season.

A TV special named Smashie and Nicey: The End of an Era was shown on BBC1 in 1994. The special began in the 1960s, with Nicey presenting Blue Peter and dancing on stage with Freddie and the Dreamers in doctored footage of the band's appearance on the show performing "You Were Made For Me", interviewing The Beatles, and becoming a DJ on offshore station "Radio Geraldine" where Smashie was initially his teaboy. It combined elements from the careers of several real DJs, with Smashie seen hosting a Saturday night TV show called Smashie's House Party, a parody of Noel's House Party, and having turned his show into a plea for his wife (named specifically as "Tessa") to come back after she had left him, repeatedly playing Bobby Goldsboro's "Honey" (Tony Blackburn did precisely this in the mid-1970s when his wife, actress Tessa Wyatt, left him). Similarly, Nicey was revealed to have advertised "Deptford Draylons", alluding to Alan Freeman's ads for Brentford Nylons, to have interviewed the Sex Pistols (in doctored footage of their famous interview with Bill Grundy) and to have fronted The Dave Nice Video Show, a parody of The Kenny Everett Video Show.
