As a result of living off of mainly fishing and subsistence farming, Anguillians had little money to hire labor for plowing, or "holing ground" as it was locally called. Instead, a communal effort called "jollification" would provide the labor for such a task. Several neighbors and friends of the person who needed the help would gather and work together to prepare the ground. This labor would be paid for in demijohns of rum which would be available at the jollification.

Jolliffe was acknowledged as one of the two main directors of the feature. In 1979, she returned to Melbourne to work for Fanfare Film. Later she moved to Sydney to set up Jollification Studio to work on her own projects. However, it was difficult to find funding for animated projects at the time.

Broudie signed the Lightning Seeds to Epic Records, put other projects on hold and embarked on a touring schedule: By the end of 1993 Broudie had finished the Jollification (1994) album, which included contributions from Terry Hall, Alison Moyet and Ian McNabb, the promotional tour began in August 1994 with a consistently changing line up over the years with Broudie the only constant. The tour benefited from the success of the second single from the album "Change", which reached No. 13 in the UK Singles Charts, becoming the band's second UK top 20 hit. The song was also featured on the soundtrack for the hit movie Clueless. The album Jollification became a critical success and the singles taken from this album, "Lucky You", "Marvellous" and "Perfect" made noticeable impact.

In the 1990s, Rogers continued to work in music production, beginning a long association with the Lightning Seeds, for whom he co-produced the albums Sense, Jollification, Dizzy Heights and Tilt as well as the football anthem "Three Lions". He also returned to The Fall to produce the majority of The Infotainment Scan. Throughout the '90s he was also involved with underground dance music, remixing under the names RAMP and Slacker.

Simpson has performed in the Philippines on several occasions, singing his Wild Swans hits popular in the country and has performed "Flaming Sword" as well as "Whatever Possessed You" during his live shows there. On 27 November 2019, Simpson joined Broudie and the Lightning Seeds on stage to perform "Flaming Sword" at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall as part of the 25th anniversary and reissue of the album Jollification.

The latter's song "The Life of Riley" became the backing music for Match of the Day's Goal of the Month competition. In 1994 Broudie created a touring band so the songs could be played live. Their 1994 album Jollification is considered by many as the moment the Lightning Seeds arrived as a mainstream band. During the same period, Broudie produced albums for other acts, including Northside, The Primitives, Terry Hall and Dodgy.

Capps Creek is best known for Jolly Mill Park, located at the old township site of Jollification, Missouri. The creek is also known for trout fishing, as it is a White Ribbon Trout Area managed by the Missouri Department of Conservation. White Ribbon Trout Areas are stocked periodically with rainbow and, occasionally, brown trout. The fishing regulations are generally relaxed and allow anglers to use any live bait and keep up to four trout per day.

Jolly Mill and the former town of Jollification have a history reaching back into the mid-19th century. The mill was the anchor of the town, and the town survived on its success as a grist mill and whiskey distillery. The town was destroyed during the Civil War and rebuilt, but it ultimately died when the railroad bypassed the town. Jolly Mill is now managed by The Friends of Jolly Mill and The Ozark Highlanders as a public family-friendly park, and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

However, this mindset has gradually shifted during the 1960s when she worked at Television Cartoons (TVC) as an animator on major projects, including Yellow Submarine, and she was not the only female animator. In 1975 she co-directed the Academy Award-winning feature with Bob Godfrey, which earned her a respected place in the animation industry. She said it was a real triumph for her, to "come from being a woman who 'can’t animate'" to winning an Oscar for her animated feature. Anne Jolliffe set up her own studio in Sydney called Jollification.

The Lightning Seeds are an English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1989 by Ian Broudie (vocals, guitar, producer), formerly of the bands Big in Japan and Original Mirrors.The Lightning Seeds Biography Retrieved 20 July 2011 Originally a studio-based solo project for Broudie, the Lightning Seeds expanded into a touring band following Jollification (1994). The group experienced commercial success throughout the 1990s and are well known for their single "Three Lions", a collaboration with David Baddiel and Frank Skinner which reached No. 1 in the UK in 1996 and 1998. The single once again reached No. 1 in the UK in 2018.

Around the time the "second generation" Icicle Works were winding down, McNabb became a de facto member of The Wild Swans, playing guitar and singing back-up vocals on their second studio album, 1990's Space Flower. As well, he worked with Ian Broudie on Broudie's studio project The Lightning Seeds, providing backing vocals on the band's first three albums, released between 1990 and 1994. McNabb also co-wrote a total of two songs with Broudie that wound up on The Lightning Seeds' second and third albums, 1992's Sense and 1994's Jollification. 1998 saw McNabb as part of a touring band for Mike Scott and The Waterboys, playing bass and sometimes keyboards.

DePauw Bands began in the early part of the 20th century. The earliest incarnation of a DePauw Pep Band can be found as far back as 1907 when the newly formed band played for a "jollification" event for the first Old Gold Day (later to be known as DePauw's homecoming). The Tiger Pep Band's creation date (1907) would make it the second oldest "scramble band" in the country next to the Columbia University Marching Band which was founded in 1904. While never losing its purpose of bringing joy and support for DePauw, Marching Bands took over shortly thereafter and continued on in one form or another until its final performance during the Presidential Inauguration Parade in honor of Alumnus Vice President Dan Quayle, class of 1969.
