The former traveled to Europe to study manufacturing methods and in 1850, a facility began operating in Roxbury. Produced watches hit the market in 1853. After a thousand watches were manufactured, the Boston Watch Company, which was previously known as the American Horologe Company, was finally established. While this company did not last long, it contributed to the clocks' mass appeal in America because it pioneered practices that allowed the timepieces to become more affordable.

After the 1882 restoration, the original fresco was derusted, some fragments still being kept today in the monastery's museum. Near the church one can find the Gothic Hall, which shelters a religious art museum. It has, among other things, objects related to the history of the monastery. In the gate's tower (which today no longer exists), that served as belfry, Vasile Lupu had installed a huge horologe, the first public use clock in Romanian Principalities (1654).

In 1850 Aaron Dennison partnered with Edward Howard, a reputable clockmaker. The two formed plans to construct a line of watches with interchangeable parts based on Dennison’s visit to the Springfield armory. They built a factory in Roxbury, with financial backing provided by Samuel Curtis and DP Davis (a partner of Howard in his clock business). This company initially operated under the name American Horologe Company but was quickly changed to the Warren Manufacturing Company to hide its purpose from foreign suppliers. The company’s initial focus was on the production of an 8-day watch, though this proved to be too expensive and not very accurate. Instead, the attention was turned to a 30-hour watch designed very similarly to what ultimately became the standard for an American 18 size watch.
