The development took on the name of Houlton and the first homeowners moved in during December 2017. A planning application to the Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC) was submitted in 2011, and was approved in July 2014.

The DF-17 uses the rocket booster from the already operational DF-16B short-range ballistic missile. As such, the design of the missile itself did not require any major changes. The biggest change however, is the obvious usage of a hypersonic glide vehicle rather than a conventional re-entry warhead(s) found in normal ballistic missiles and MIRVs. The DF-ZF HGV operates in a different manner from normal ballistic missiles or even intercontinental ballistic missiles in the first place.

However, after decades of research and development, directed-energy weapons are still very much at the experimental stage and it remains to be seen if or when they will be deployed as practical, high-performance military weapons. Complaints have been raised by one researcher over lack of access to high-performance computing power, required for development of the HGV. While China has a number of high performance supercomputers, access to them was not provided for the DF-ZF development project.

A lorry driving training company, System Training, is based at Carlisle Airport Business Park, a site opposite Carlisle Lake District Airport, and was featured in Series 2, Episode 7 of the Channel 5 TV programme Eddie Stobart: Trucks & Trailers, first aired on 30 June 2011. Edd Stobart, the 20-year-old son of Stobart Group Chief Operating Officer William Stobart, passed his HGV Class 2 driving licence using that school. ECM (Vehicle Delivery Service) Ltd has its HQ at the airport.

In particular growth in local employment opportunities will promote the sense of local community and identity, and balance the tendency towards its development as a dormitory town for Tralee. Ardfert has developed around a crossroads of local roads and the Tralee- Ballyheigue regional road. There is therefore, a considerable level of through traffic, and its infrastructure needs to be better planned and developed. This situation is compounded by the quarry to the north east of the village which generates significant HGV traffic movements through the village.

Following a public inquiry, the government approved the proposal in May 2018, and the contract to build the tunnel was awarded in November 2019. The Silvertown Tunnel will have two tunnels, one for each direction—with a dedicated HGV and bus lane. This will allow a substantial increase in cross-river bus services, as the new tunnel will be able to be used by double decker buses. Following completion of the new crossing in around 2025, both the Silvertown and Blackwall tunnels will be tolled.

A report was presented in 2009 evaluating the problems caused by HGV traffic through the village, and described solutions which included support from Newbury MP Richard Benyon. Maidstone services are a motorway service station directly off Junction 8 of the M20 motorway near Maidstone, England, owned by Roadchef. They were the first set of services to open on the M20, opening in 1997. Until the 2007 opening of Stop 24 services at Junction 11, they were also the only set on the motorway. There are two entrances at each end of a walkway, one for people arriving by car and one for HGV drivers, with shops and restaurants at each end.

The exact cause is unknown, although it was neither a Eurotunnel equipment nor rolling stock problem; it may have been due to arson of a heavy goods vehicle. It is estimated that the heart of the fire reached , with the tunnel severely damaged over , with some affected to some extent. Full operation recommenced six months after the fire. On 21 August 2006, the tunnel was closed for several hours when a truck on an HGV shuttle train caught fire. On 11 September 2008, a fire occurred in the Channel Tunnel at 13:57 GMT.

However, considerable opposition is building up to the plan. Southwell residents are arguing that the 'line' of the bypass will become a new edge of town, and allow considerable expansion of the urban edge of the town, into the sensitive southern aspect. This is the view which includes the historic town centre and views of the Southwell Minster. New traffic measures are suggested as an alternative to reduce through traffic, such as an HGV ban except for access, and downgrading this inappropriate route from Lowdham to Newark, to B road status.

The TiF aimed to tackle congestion at the times, places, and direction in which it is most expensive to the economy of Greater Manchester. A key part of the scheme was therefore to introduce a congestion charge. A capped day pass of £5 (at 2007 prices, estimated by AGMA to be £6 by 2013) was proposed for all vehicles, such as multi-drop delivery vehicles which may repeatedly cross charging rings during peak times. In 1794, the poet Robert Southey wrote that such a route was considered "the end of the world". In 1812, the local community was fined for not maintaining a good road, and builders were employed to construct a suitable route. The road opened in 1843 when a stagecoach travelled from Lynton to Porlock successfully.

The dates are not recorded, but Ashby's test track between Droxford and Wickham was probably removed in 1975, as had been the track south of Wickham in 1974. The Sadler Rail Coach Company was dissolved in December 1976, having failed to sell the Pacerailer to any railway company. A similar concept, the Pacer, was successfully developed by British Rail in the 1980s. Droxford station and its associated land were taken over by a driving school; the surrounding land was tarmacked and used for the training of HGV drivers.

GB virus C (GBV-C), formerly known as hepatitis G virus (HGV) and also known as human pegivirus – HPgV is a virus in the family Flaviviridae and a member of the Pegivirus, is known to infect humans, but is not known to cause human disease. Reportedly, HIV patients coinfected with GBV-C can survive longer than those without GBV-C, but the patients may be different in other ways. Research is active into the virus' effects on the immune system in patients coinfected with GBV-C and HIV.

The Real Food Cafe, just off the A82 in Tyndrum The A82 and A85 share the same route for between Crianlarich and Tyndrum. Although Crianlarich has a larger community, Tyndrum is equally well catered for motorists, particularly HGV drivers, and contains the Real Food Cafe, a transport cafe that stays open until 10 p.m. The cafe caters not only to motorists but also to walkers along the West Highland Way. The A82 passing through Glen Coe The A82 enters bleak moorland at the western fringes of Rannoch Moor, to the north of Tyndrum.

Phase 2 encompasses the contraflow between Junctions 8 & 9 on the M20 and now applies to HGVs for both the Port of Dover and Channel Tunnel. Both directions of motorway traffic are directed onto the westbound carriageway contraflow at a speed limit of 50 mph. The eastbound carriageway will then be closed and used for HGV queuing in two lanes (the hard shoulder and 3rd lane) with the other two lanes are reserved for emergency vehicles, maintenance vehicles and amenities. This would be marked out with cones and subjected to a 30 mph speed limit.

A second, unofficial camp was set up to the east of the N216 by the curve at exit 2 in 2015. The road is regularly blocked by the migrants with felled trees and other objects in an effort to stop the vehicles to enable them to hide aboard. In response, HGV drivers have been spotted attempting to run over migrants approaching their vehicles on the road. In 2016, plans were announced to build a long wall on either side of the N216 to prevent migrants accessing the road and to improve the surroundings for drivers.

The current chairman is Dale Evans, managing director of Anglian Water's @one Alliance, which brings together its supply chain partners. ICG members account for more than 40% of the annual spending on infrastructure in the United Kingdom. In 2019 the ICG launched an initiative to reduce accidents and improve workplace health in seven key areas: people plant interface, mental health, utility strikes, lifting operations, HGV operations, hand-arm vibration and public safety. Its aim was to eliminate illness and injury from these causes by 2025 and a progress report was to have been published in April 2020.

The Direct Vision Standard is a measure of how much HGV drivers can see from their cab directly (without the use of mirrors or video cameras). From October 2020, Transport for London will require all HGVs over 12 tonnes entering London to have at least a one-star rating and from 2024 they will need at least a three-star rating. To meet the one-star standard, a driver will need to be able to see someone's head and shoulders from within an acceptable distance. For the one-star rating, that corresponds to 4.5m at the side and 2m in front.

Ulceby public houses are The Fox Inn, and the Yarborough Arms located from the centre of the village; a previous public house, The Brocklesby Ox, is now the site of the aforementioned convenience store. The village has a preschool and primary St Nicholas C of E Primary School. Ulceby railway station, at Ulceby Skitter, is situated 1 mile, and Ulceby Truck Stop (an HGV park with cafe and petrol station) from the centre of village. Religious sites and landmarks are the Anglican church of St Nicholas, Ulceby Seventh-day Adventist Chapel, and a war memorial; Ulceby Methodist Chapel closed in June 2011.

This was later dualled. A year later the Stanwick and Raunds Bypass was opened with land for dualling which, as of 2018, has not been carried out, despite the development of several large distribution centres off the Raunds roundabout hugely increasing HGV traffic. In the mid-1980s, the Ringstead and Denford Bypass was constructed from the Raunds roundabout to a grade separated interchange at Thrapston with the A14. With the completion of the route, the Chowns Mill roundabout to Thrapston roundabout section of the A605 was renumbered the A45 and the A45 to the east of Higham Ferrers was renumbered A4500.

Around the year 2000 the severely damaged section from Thorpe Waterville to the Lilford roundabout was improved on line. This was the last section in Northamptonshire to be improved and had suffered badly from HGV with lorry ruts but the work was done on the cheap and the gridded gullies collapsed. The whole section was rebuilt with no gullies, crown drainage and soft verges in 2018. Road Safety Record since April 2017..... On 9 April 2017 a woman was found guilty of drink-driving on the road in a car with her newborn son in the back.

Depending on speed, road curvature and vehicle properties, heavy goods vehicle (HGV) combinations exhibit a phenomenon called 'high speed outside offtracking'. This means that the rearmost axle of the trailer does not follow the lateral path of the truck tractor unit, but may travel significantly—up to 1–3 meters (3–10 ft)—away from the curve center. Hence, narrow lanes on sharp curves have to be designed slightly wider than on straight road. The phenomenon is much larger on slippery snow-covered roads than on bare asphalt or cement concrete, calling for even larger lane widening.

Because the A82 is a main through route, tourists are suggested to use the older Military Road instead, so as to avoid the coach and HGV traffic. Cyclists and walkers can use the Great Glen Way between Fort Wiilam and Inverness. This is part of National Cycle Route 78 (The Caledonia Way) from Campbeltown to Inverness. Avangard carried by a UR-100UTTKh ICBM launched from Dombarovsky Air Base successfully hit a target at the Kura Missile Test Range. The Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Yury Borisov stated a day later that the glider flew at 27 times the speed of sound, "invulnerable to interception". According to Russian Defense Ministry's press service/TASS, the Avangard missile system with the hypersonic glide-vehicle was demonstrated to the US inspection group in accordance with the New START treaty procedures on November 24–26, 2019. On 27 December 2019, the first missile regiment armed with the Avangard HGV officially entered combat duty.

Elworth is a village in the county of Cheshire, located in the North West of England, and is a suburb of the town of Sandbach, located approximately one mile eastward. Elworth is known for its industrial past, having historically been the home of Foden's HGV manufacturers. The village also features two churches, Mount Pleasant Methodist Church and St Peter's Church of England, the latter of which was designed by George Gilbert Scott, noted for having also designed St Pancras railway station in London; Elworth also features Sandbach railway station, which serves the line between Sandbach, Crewe and Manchester.

In July 2013, the ownership of the Daw Mill site was transferred to property redevelopment firm Haworth Estates after UK Coal went into insolvency. Haworth subsequently submitted plans to North Warwickshire Borough Council to turn the land into a business park, which included proposals for an HGV depot, but withdrew their application in October 2014 after encountering opposition from local residents and councillors, who felt the scheme would be unworkable. One of their key objections was the volume of traffic that would be generated in the local area. Haworth said they would submit a revised proposal.

The declared objective of the training is to increase driver confidence and make road users safer, raise awareness of critical situations and impart some theoretical instruction in vehicle technology. There are special car, motorcycle, van, bus and HGV training modules. Some ADAC positions are very controversial, questioning the benefit for road safety of some planned measures or rather implying the opposite. The club had argued its opposition to a general speed limit on German motorways by citing the finding that statistically the motorways are already the safest roads in Germany (in terms of accidents) and that a speed limit would not significantly reduce the severity of accidents.

Over 1,000 cyclists participated in a die-in protest outside TfL's headquarters after six cyclists died in a fortnight. The Space for Cycling campaign's Big Ride approaching the Houses of Parliament. In November 2013, six cyclists were killed on London streets within a two-week period, bringing the number of cyclists killed in London in the year to 14, nine of which involved a heavy goods vehicle (HGV). In response, the Metropolitan Police announced an initiative called Operation Safeway, in which 2,500 traffic police were stationed at major junctions throughout the city to issue fixed penalty notices to road users breaking road traffic laws and offer advice to vulnerable road users.

This was the last IAA before it was again suspended during World War II, after which Germany and Berlin was divided, with West- Berlin being isolated within Communist East Germany. From 1947–1949, West Germany’s automobile and accessories manufacturers took part in the export trade fair in Hanover. The automobile industry’s hall acted like a magnet on the public, with a great number of visitors coming to the show. In 1951 the show was held on the Messe Frankfurt for the first time. The event, which was held in April, attracted a total of 570,000 visitors, with exhibits including the first HGV to have a turbo diesel engine.

A limited passenger shuttle service restarted on 14 September with the 06:18 BST from Folkestone. Services were increased when the section of the north tunnel was reopened from Folkestone to the UK crossover on 22 September, and again on 29 September when the tunnel between the crossovers was brought back into service. While the final sixth of the tunnel was being repaired, trains were limited to by the Intergovernmental Commission. Service levels were reduced so that only 90% of Eurostar services, 60% of Eurotunnel passenger vehicle shuttles and 70% of the HGV shuttles were able to run, costing Eurotunnel an estimated £185 million (€200 million) in lost revenue.

The A1082 is an English A road entirely in the county of Norfolk. OS Explorer map 250 – Norfolk Coast West. It runs from a junction with the A148 King's Lynn to Cromer Road in the town of King's Lynn to a junction with the A148 King's Lynn to Cromer in the northern suburbs of King's Lynn. The road is an essential part of the transport infrastructure of King's Lynn as it links King's Lynn Docks and its industrial estates to the A149 Queen Elizabeth way King's Lynn by-pass, allowing HGV traffic to reach the A47 main trunk road without passing through the centre of King's Lynn.

The CJ-10 long-range cruise missile made its first public appearance during the military parade on the 60th Anniversary of the People's Republic of China; the CJ-10 represents the next generation in rocket weapons technology in the PLA. In late 2009, it was reported that the Corps was constructing a long underground launch and storage facility for nuclear missiles in the Hebei province. 47 News reported that the facility was likely located in the Taihang Mountains. On 9 January 2014, a Chinese hypersonic glide vehicle (HGV) referred to as the WU-14 was allegedly spotted flying at high speeds over the country.

The article was published in the same week that a cyclist in central London, had been killed by a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) turning left into her path. Walden’s memoir from 2011 of her time spent with footballer George Best, Babysitting George, was vehemently criticised as “largely fictional” by his widow, Alex Best, who threatened legal action, against the book’s publisher, Bloomsbury Publishing. Newspaper of Sunday, The Observer, quoted Best’s former mistress, Gina Devivo, describing the work as being by someone “with a very good imagination”. She added: “I am most angry for George, because he is not here to defend himself. It just didn’t happen that way.

In 1980, the Army Board had come to the conclusion that the Royal Artillery Band, the Royal Artillery Mounted Band, and the Royal Artillery Alanbrooke Band would be required to adopt a wartime role. At that time, there were sixty-eight bands in the Army, and apart from the Royal Artillery bands, all of them fulfilled the traditional wartime role as stretcher bearers. It was decided that in the case of the Royal Artillery bands, the musicians would be trained as drivers, and all three bands quickly ensured that their members were trained and qualified as HGV 2 drivers, with additional experience driving 10-tonne Monarch trucks during Operation Lionheart in 1982.

Mercedes-Benz large goods vehicle A large goods vehicle (LGV), also called a heavy goods vehicle (HGV), is the European Union (EU) term for any truck with a gross combination mass (GCM) of over . Sub-category N2 is used for vehicles between 3,500 kg and and N3 for all goods vehicles over 12,000 kg as defined in Directive 2001/116/EC. The term medium goods vehicle is used within parts of the UK government to refer to goods vehicles of between 3,500 and 7,500 kg which according to the EU are also "large goods vehicles". Her hero was British middle distance runner Steve Ovett, and she was inspired by his success at the 1980 Summer Olympics. However, Holmes later turned her back on athletics, joining the British Army at the age of 18, having left school two years earlier, working initially as a shop assistant in a sweet shop and later as a nursing assistant for disabled patients. In the Army, she was initially a HGV driver in the Women's Royal Army Corps (WRAC), later becoming a basic physical training instructor (PTI). Holmes then elected in June 1990 to attend the first course to be run under the Army's new Physical Training syllabus, and successfully passed out as a Class 2 PTI.

Equus Altus, a sculpture of a packhorse carrying a roll of cloth, dominates the central court, and The Briggate Minerva, stands outside the centre's entrance on Briggate. Both are by Scottish sculptor Andy Scott. Packhorses were used to transport goods, in particular cloth, to and from Leeds: the artist said "My thoughts behind it were about the history of Leeds and the wool and textile industries and how horses were used as the HGV at the time". Minerva was the Roman goddess of both commerce and weaving, making her appropriate to this site in a city with a strong heritage of textiles, and wears an owl mask, one of the symbols of the city.

Philp worked for McKinsey and Company advising the boards of FTSE 100 companies before co-founding distribution business Blueheath Holdings, in 2000. The company grew from nothing to £70 million of turnover in four years, and was floated on the AIM before merging with Booker Cash & Carry as part of the Booker Group in a £375 million deal. He joined forces with Sam Gyimah, from 2010 a Conservative MP, to found Clearstone Training and Recruitment Limited, a HGV training provider, which sold its assets to RCaptial in 2007. In 2014 he took court proceedings against the trustees, claiming that they had paid themselves excessive remuneration. The High Court agreed, concluding that the trustees had failed in part of their duties, and that Mr Moore had paid himself remuneration to which he was not entitled; Mr Moore was ordered to reimburse over £100,000 and the trustees were made to pay £64,225 to the trust as compensation for loss of rent. In separate 2014 proceedings, the Court of Appeal upheld the trustees' decision to sell Tottenham House to an unnamed buyer for £11.25m. By 2013 the earl's financial affairs at his Trustees' hands had suffered to the extent that he was claiming Jobseeker's Allowance whilst training to be a HGV lorry driver.

The centre has been controversial with local businesses, however: the developers of the nearby St James Centre, TH Real Estate, lodged a complaint about the Dunard Centre's proposed lorry access, which would see daily HGV deliveries along a pedestrianised shopping street. They also criticised the building's height, suggesting it would block views from and of their W Hotel as the well the building's large size and its facade, describing it as being made "entirely of concrete". In response, the Dunard Centre's owners threatened to sue the St James Centre’s developers after they distributed letters urging surrounding residents and businesses to object to the concert hall's development. The Dunard Centre's developers claim the letters were factually inaccurate and that the hall would benefit the local area.

Map of the planned route of the Silvertown Tunnel The Blackwall Tunnel is the only major road crossing of the Thames in East London, and consequently has very high traffic volumes. Furthermore, the limitations of the western bore of the tunnel (not accessible to vehicles taller than ), means that larger HGV and double decker buses cannot pass through the tunnel in both directions. Given this, an expansion of the crossing has been proposed for many years—such as a third bore of the tunnel, proposed in 1989—however none of these proposals have come to fruition. Following the cancellation of the Thames Gateway Bridge in 2008, a new crossing from the Greenwich Peninsula to Silvertown—the Silvertown Tunnel—was proposed by TfL.

Three separate investigations were conducted. The first was a French judicial inquiry into the cause of the fire, the second was an internal inquiry by Eurotunnel and the third was an inquiry by the Channel Tunnel Safety Authority (CTSA), a bi-national body formed of personnel from British and French railway safety bodies, fire brigades and government departments. The usage of the HGV shuttles had been approved with the plan that, in the event of fire, the shuttle was to either continue to the terminal or to detach the locomotive and passenger coach. Neither of these happened, as the fire had damaged the train such that it was forced to stop, and the overhead line failed four seconds after the train had come to a stand.

On 24 June 2015 Operation Stack was implemented due to industrial action taken by French employees of the MyFerryLink company, as a result of disagreements regarding the imminent takeover of the company by DFDS. This has been the first ever incident which has seen the implementation of Phase 4 of Operation Stack, which involves closing the M20 from Junctions 9 to 11 coast- bound, meaning that continent-bound HGV traffic was stacked all the way from Junction 8 at Hollingbourne, southeast of Maidstone, to Junction 12 at Cheriton, near Folkestone. Operation Stack began to be removed from 3 July onwards, with more than 30 miles of parked HGVs needing to be cleared. The cost to the United Kingdom economy was estimated at around £250 million.

The DF-ZF is thought to reach speeds between Mach 5 () and Mach 10 (). The glider could be used for nuclear weapons delivery but could also be used to perform precision-strike conventional missions (for example, next- generation anti-ship ballistic missiles), which could penetrate "the layered air defenses of a U.S. carrier strike group." Hypersonic glider vehicles are less susceptible to anti-ballistic missile countermeasures than conventional reentry vehicles (RVs). Normal RVs descend through the atmosphere on a predictable ballistic trajectory—a hypersonic glider like the HGV can pull-up after reentering the atmosphere and approach its target in a relatively flat glide, lessening the time it can be detected, fired at, or reengaged if an initial attack fails.

Bannatyne spent his twenties moving from one job to another. Upon his return to Clydebank he trained as an agricultural vehicle fitter and then travelled around the country repairing tractors. He lived on the island of Jersey for four years from 1974 where he gained an HGV licence and earned a living through several jobs including deckchair attendant, ice cream seller and hospital porter. He also surfed, partied and met his first wife on the island. With Jersey's difficult business climate for outsiders, at age 29, Bannatyne and his wife moved to Stockton-on-Tees in North East England. In particular prosecutions can be brought against company directors for failing to meet their duty of care and allowing HGV driver hours to exceed the legal limits. For decades this bottleneck was a major problem in the North East's infrastructure with delays being caused on both the A96 and the Aberdeen to Inverness Line, caused by the speed limits imposed on the line following any HGV colliding the bridge, until the bridge could be inspected by a structural engineer. The Forth Road Bridge underwent a comprehensive structural survey between 2003 and 2005 after suspension bridges of similar design and age in the United States were found to be suffering from corrosion in their main suspension cables. The survey results showed significant corrosion and an accompanying loss in strength of between 8 and 10% in the cables on the Forth Bridge. The rate of corrosion and weakening of the main cables would have required the bridge to close to HGV traffic some time around 2014 and then close to all traffic by 2019, so plans were drawn up to build a replacement crossing, to run parallel to the existing road bridge between Lothian and Fife. Dehumidification equipment was installed to remove moisture from the inside of the main suspension cables, in an attempt to slow or halt the corrosion, but with no guarantee of success, the Forth Estuary Transport Authority and Scottish Government were left with no option but to plan the construction of a new crossing.

In August 2016 part of a pedestrian footbridge connecting areas of Ryarsh divided by the motorway was brought down - initially suspected to be the result of an impact by a digger from nearby works to widen the southbound bridge at junction 4 being carried on a low- loader that was moving along the hard shoulder. In the incident, the southern section of the bridge - which rested on a plinth south of the motorway and the cantilevered northern section \- was dislodged and fell onto the carriageway below, landing on the trailer of a passing HGV and being narrowly avoided by a motorcyclist who suffered broken ribs taking avoiding action. She normally undertakes up to 5 crossings a day in each direction, leaving Ardrossan at 0700, 0945, 1230, 1515 and 1800, and leaving Brodick at 0820, 1105, 1355, 1640 and 1920. The 1920 Saturday departure was removed during the winter 2016/2017 timetable to facilitate a 0820 sailing from Brodick on Sunday, where a crew safety drill has been a normal occurrence since October 2016. During the period of the summer timetable there is an additional sailing on Friday evenings, leaving Ardrossan at 2030, returning from Brodick at 2140. Due to the demand for capacity, a second ferry has supplemented the Caledonian Isles during the summer season since 2005. This peak summer service originally operated between June and August however, due to demand, operates from May to September since 2013. The additional service was provided by from 2005 until 2011, and by from 2012. During the summer 2012 period, the capacity was limited to 12 passengers for HGV drivers during the week, whilst a full passenger service was provided on Saturdays.

However, Freightliner's most profitable routes were those servicing Britain's major ports, specifically traffic to/from Europe and Ireland, as well as import/export traffic to the rest of the world. This pattern of profitability was recognised in the 1968 Transport Act, where by Freightliner became a separate listed commercial company wholly owned by the UK Government, but which leased its UK domestic rail transport from British Railways. Although by the late 1960s Freightliner had 28 terminals and 56 routes, the company's shift in focus from the original domestic freight market to the international market serviced via ports continued for the next 30 years, with many of the original domestic depots which did not service port traffic either never opening or eventually closing (ie: Kings Cross, Sheffield, Swansea, Swindon), whilst investment in seaport depots - specifically Southampton, Harwich, and the Port of Felixstowe where Beeching's plan had never envisaged a depot - continued at an increasing pace.
