"With massive competition coming from all angles, Netflix and Hastings have a pivotal 12 to 18 months ahead, especially with [Disney CEO Bob] Iger and Disney laser focused on streaming initiatives with its standalone service launch in 2019 and the Fox assets likely under the hood," GBH Insights chief strategy officer and head of technology research Daniel Ives said.

GBH Insights analyst Daniel Ives also told CNBC that he had seen "soft spots" in China, noting that the hefty price tag had made the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus more attractive, relative to the iPhone X. Tung said if Apple doesn't continue to add more "breakthrough features and designs," it will become harder in China, where Android is commoditizing iOS.

"While most tech names including FANG stocks are relatively insulated from any China worries/headwinds, this is enough of a near term concern for tech investors to take some profits after a golden run over the last few weeks with many of these names making new highs," said Dan Ives, head of technology research at GBH Insights, in a note.
