The Bengal Nagpur Railway main line from Nagpur to Asansol, on the Howrah–Delhi main line, was opened for goods traffic on 1 February 1891. Later it was modified as the bypass rail station of Adra Junction to decongest Adra station .

The plan defines[5] highways as the "main roads" that facilitate travel within the metro for the majority of residents, and distinguishes them from "Expressways", which will charge a toll. The plan intends for these toll expressways to decongest traffic on the main roads by providing an option to those road users willing to pay a toll fee in exchange for faster travel time. The plan calls for the construction of 426 km ofIntercity expressway, and 78 km of Urban expressway.

It was founded by King Henry IV (1553–1610) (King of France and Navarre) on May 17, 1607 to decongest the Hôtel-Dieu de Paris during the plague. He named it St. Louis in memory of Louis IX, who died of the dysentery that devastated Tunis in 1270. There is a proposal to upgrade Cherlapally Railway Station,[3] as a Major Terminus to decongest traffic in Secunderabad Railway Station. Nearest exit and entry junction for Nehru Outer Ring Road is at Keesara Junction.

The new town movement refers to towns that were built in the United Kingdom after World War II and that have been purposefully planned, developed and built as a remedy to overcrowding and congestion in some instances, and to scattered ad hoc settlements in others.Osborn & Whittick, 1969, p.33 The main reason for it was to decongest larger industrialized cities, rehousing people in freshly built, new and fully planned towns that were completely self- sufficient and provided for the community.

Madhavaram Mofussil Bus Terminus (MMBT) is a satellite bus termini of Chennai, India, located in the neighbourhood of Madhavaram, providing outstation/inter- state transport services. Spread over an area of , it was built to decongest the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus in Koyambedu. It will chiefly handle buses to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, including cities such as Chittoor, Tirupati, Nellore, Vijayawada, Kurnool, Puttaparthi, Visakhapatnam, Bhadrachalam, and Hyderabad. As of 2018, the number of passengers travelling from Chennai to these two states daily average 12,500.

Buses take up over 90% of public transport in Indian cities, and serve as an important mode of transport. Services are mostly run by state government owned Transport Corporations. In 1990s all government State Transport Corporations have introduced various facilities like low-floor buses for the disabled and air- conditioned buses to attract private car owners to help decongest roads. The Ahmedabad Bus Rapid Transport System, in 2010 won the prestigious Sustainable Transport Award from the Transportation Research Board in Washington.

National Corridors of India (NC) are 6 high volume corridors, including 4 in Golden Quadrilateral and 2 in North–South and East–West Corridors. Including Mumbai - Kolkata Highway (NH6), known as East Coast - West Coast Corridor, that carry 35% of India's freight. Lane expansion to 6 to 8 laning, ring roads, bypasses and elevated corridors will be built in Bharatmala to decongest the National Corridors. Logistics Parks will be set up along the NC. Busiest stretches of National Corridors will be converted to the expressways.

In the interest of the economy and trade and to decongest the central business district, CMDA has developed the truck terminal at Madhavaram over an extent about at the cost of about ₹ 60 million (6 crores). It is located near the junction of 100 Feet Road and the GNT Road, with easy access to Chennai city, port and railways. The terminal has been functioning since 1992. The objective of the project is to provide modern and functionally efficient truck terminals for the benefit of the city.

The completion of the expressway will be in 2022. The expressway, once completed, will decongest the Central Luzon segment of the Maharlika Highway, provide a faster route to Cagayan Valley, create a more efficient trade route between municipalities of Bulacan and Nueva Ecija, and Metro Manila. The project will also cater on women to work on its construction, to promote gender equality in the workforce. The North Luzon Expressway East will be connected to the also under construction expressway, the Central Luzon Link Expressway.

Widening of Kaloor Palarivattom Road was taken up by State P.W.D. with the co-operation of GCDA in getting the land surrendered free of cost for road widening. To decongest the south Railway Overbridge and to reduce traffic on M.G. Road and Chittoor road the eastern entry to the South Railway station was developed by GCDA. Greater Cochin Development Authority has thus developed a total of about 75 km. of road length of varying widths ranging from 7m to 36m with in the Greater Cochin Region.

This means that a fully switched network is a collision-free environment. The core function of a switch is to allow each workstation to communicate only with the switch instead of with each other. This in turn means that data can be sent from workstation to switch and from switch to workstation simultaneously. The core purpose of a switch is to decongest network flow to the workstations so that the connections can transmit more effectively; receiving transmissions that were only specific to their network address.

There are provisions for parking 1,500 to 2,000 two- wheelers and 60 cars on the premises of the bus terminus. A two-level underground two-wheeler parking lot was mooted in 2008 to decongest the entrance for the buses, which jostle for space with two-wheelers and cars. The Ring Road was divided into three major phases that connect all the five main gates in and out of Addis Ababa with all other regions (Jimma, Bishoftu, Dessie, Gojjam and Ambo). For this project, China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) was the partner of Addis Ababa City Roads Authority (AACRA). The Ring Road has greatly helped to decongest and alleviate city traffic.

The Mayor Democrito D. Plaza II Avenue (Also known as Butuan City Bypass Road) is a 15.5-kilometre (9.6 mi), two-to-four lane national secondary highway in Butuan City. It serves as a diversion road from the Butuan–Cagayan de Oro–Iligan Road. This highway is designated as the National Route 951 (N951) of the Philippine highway network. This 15.5-kilometre highway was constructed along with the Macapagal Bridge which aims to decongest traffic along the Agusan-Misamis Oriental Road in downtown Butuan.

In 2016, Payumo revived the proposal again, pitching the bridge as means to decongest traffic in Metro Manila and boost the economy. Comparing the proposed bridge to the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line, Payumo has noted that commuters in Cavite and other parts of Southern Luzon do not need to pass through Metro Manila to reach Central Luzon if such bridge would be built. China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) began its onsite study as preparation for the possible construction of the bridge in late 2017. Its team first visited the coastal towns in Bataan.

In 2014, considering to decongest the shed and upgrade, the Railway Board sanctioned funds to home 50 more locos than its present capacity to accommodate the new generation Electromotive diesel (EMD) engines along with the conventional ones. During September 2015, in order to achieve fuel efficiency, the railways has been promoting use of B–5, a 5% blended biodiesel as against normal high-speed diesel. Hence a storage facility has been proposed for the same to use in its locos. A storage facility along with blending facility was commissioned for use.

The SLEX Toll Road 5, will be the extension of South Luzon Expressway to Matnog, Sorsogon from Lucena. The total length of the extension would be . The extension hopes to decongest Andaya Highway and Pan-Philippine Highway, cut travel time from Manila to Naga by 2 to 3 hours, and to Matnog by 6 hours, and soon to be built by Manila Toll Expressway Systems Inc., a company partly owned (40%) by the Philippine National Construction Corporation, the rest shared equally by the local firm Alloy Manila Expressway Inc.

The region concentrates 54% by value of the national transport of goods & logistical operations, employing 122,000. Favoured by central position, radiality of road & rail routes, importance of the airport, As well as being a large centre of production and consumption, it is a great distribution centre. The municipality concentrates two-thirds of the region’s employment in the sector, but this is becoming more decentralised. A regional plan seeks to create nine new logistical centres outside the city, in order to decongest the central areas and rationalise distribution chains.

In 2016, the airline signed a letter of intent with Bombardier for orders of up to 12 Bombardier Dash 8-Q400 aircraft in a two-class 86-seat configuration. On December 16, 2016, PAL Express began its Caticlan, Busuanga and Basco services from its Clark hub. These alternate route operations were launched to decongest traffic on their Manila hub.

Given the space constraints of Mumbai, the city development planning agency CIDCO was set up to develop townships that would decongest the city. Marking the initial days of the railways in the Indian Subcontinent, the Madras Railway Company began to network South India in 1856. The first station was built at Royapuram, which remained the main station at that time. Expansion of the Madras Railways network, particularly the completion of the Madras–Vyasarpadi line, called for a second station in Madras, resulting in Madras Central coming into being. Madras Central was built in 1873 at Parktown as a second terminus to decongest the Royapuram harbour station, which was being utilised for port movements.

The Periperal Ring Road (PRR) of Bangalore, India, is a ring road that runs around most of the perimeter of the city, which is outside of Outer Ring Road of Bangalore. This 65-kilometre-long road is being developed by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA). The reason for creating the PRR was to decongest the Outer Ring Road which currently acts as a by-pass to the city with more than 10,000 trucks using it. The State Highways Department has decided to develop Peelamedu–Kalapatti- Saravanampatty and Kurumbapalayam Road into a Ring road. The SLEX Toll Road 4, also referred to as Toll Road 4 (or simply TR4), is a extension of South Luzon Expressway from Calamba (near its boundary with Santo Tomas, Batangas) to Lucena. Construction will be divided into five segments, with one additional extension to Mayao in Lucena on the revised project outline. The extension project is implemented by the Toll Regulatory Board and will be operated by the South Luzon Tollway Corporation (SLTC). The extension would decongest the existing national road between Santo Tomas and Lucena, and provide a modern alternate route for travellers from Quezon to the Bicol Region.

Owing to its proximity to Bangalore, besides being the gateway to Karnataka, being on the Chennai – Mumbai Industrial Corridor and the infrastructure that Tumkur provides, Tumkur has the potential to be the satellite city to decongest the State Capital of Bangalore. And also has been identified as National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ). NIMZ of approx. 13500 acres and the HAL Helicopter manufacturing facility (Nr Gubbi) 610 acres will be developed as integrated industrial townships with state-of- the art infrastructure and land use on the basis of zoning; clean and energy efficient technology; necessary social infrastructure; skill development facilities, etc.

The 4-laned La Verna-Mamay Bypass Road was constructed and finished in 2017 near the airport to decongest traffic going from Mamay road to the airport and beyond and vice versa, by avoiding the usually busy intersection of Mamay Road and the Carlos P. Garcia National Highway. To avoid widening a road, which would displace houses and creep onto the airport's site, the road splits into two for 600 meters then merges back.

The College was at loggerheads with the Pune Municipal Corporation over the proposed construction of a flyover in front of the college, that would not only deface the renovated Main Hall but would also encroach upon the College's premises. The College and its alumni were of the opinion that the flyover would not, in any way, decongest the traffic plying through that road. It also considered the flyover as serious danger to the safety of the pedestrians, including students, as it was not considered in the plan of the flyover. Many civic activists and organisations supported the College's opinion.

Two bypass roads were constructed during the early 2000s to decongest the Maharlika Highway and to spur new developments outside the downtown area. The 10.3-kilometer Felipe Vergara Highway provides a direct route to Cagayan Valley, while Emilio Vergara Highway links Santa Rosa to Nueva Ecija - Aurora Road, avoiding traffic bottleneck along Maharlika Highway. The station was constructed to decongest Allahabad junction and provide a separate route for trains to Southern India and Jabalpur which originate from eastern India and Mughalsarai. A delay of more than 30 minutes for an engine change at Allahabad is thus avoided.

Four railway lines exist between Chennai Beach and Tambaram, two for up and down long distance trains and two for up and down suburban services. However, only two rail lines exist between Tambaram and Chengelpet, which are not enough to meet the growing demand of the section let alone its future requirements.

On December 8, 2017, the city government opened the market's new vegetable section, selling vegetables brought straight from farms in Benguet. Inaugurated by Estrada along with Benguet governor Crecenscio Pacalso, the section ultimately aims to bring down the cost of vegetables sold in the city. Incorporated into the structure's rear is a fish port, which would allow the market to directly receive fresh seafood from Navotas and produce from other parts of the country, as well as a ferry terminal. Constructed with the assistance of the Philippine Ports Authority, the ferry terminal's construction is expected to help decongest Quezon Boulevard and surrounding roads with the impending revival of the Pasig River Ferry Service.

The Coimbatore Bypass refers to a series of bypasses connecting the various National Highways and State Highways passing through and originating in the South Indian city of Coimbatore. The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation is undertaking the construction of six rail-over-bridges in the city. In 2008, the State Highways Department came up with a proposal to create a Ring Road passing through Peelamedu Road, Kalapatti Road, Saravanampatty Road and Kurumbapalayam Road to help decongest Avanashi Road, Mettupalayam Road and Sathyamangalam Road. The 12 km road would extend from the South India Textile Research Association (SITRA) Junction in Peelamedu, going through Kalapatti Road and connect Sathyamangalam Road at Saravanampatty and then it would connect Mettuppalayam Road at Kurumbapalayam.

Damage on a bridge in the Ibaan – Batangas City boundary caused by Typhoon Nina (Nock-ten) required the closure of the Ibaan – Batangas City segment for bridge repairs, and diverting traffic to the parallel national roads. With increasing traffic demand in the Batangas City – Bauan area and the Batangas Bay area, proposals to extend the expressway are laid out to decongest the existing routes through those areas. Two projects are proposed to extend the expressway to barangay Pinamucan, within Batangas City, and to the municipality of Bauan. Like the North Luzon Expressway and SLEX before the construction of Skyway Stage 3, STAR Tollway is separate from the SLEX network despite being connected with SLEX since 2010.

Sarai Kale Khan Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) is a major bus terminus complex in Delhi, India catering to bus services to Haryana and Rajasthan states. Built to decongest the over-crowded Kashmere Gate ISBT, which was unable to bear the increase in inter-State traffic, construction of Rs. 80-crore terminus complex began in March 1996, and it was commissioned in January 2005 though it was subsequently redeveloped to handle the increased volume of passengers. Further it is aimed to integrate with the Delhi Metro Rail link coming up near Pragati Maidan and also inter-connect the bus terminus with Nizamuddin Railway Station to cater to the rising volume of passenger traffic.

He is a pioneer to start Car- free movement and promotion of non-motorised transport in Punjab state of India. His advocacy tool helped city municipal council to decongest the major commercial hub, the clock tower market area of the city Fazilka into a pedestrian by establishing India's first car free zone. Following a requirement by the Army Corps of Engineers to move the road into the proposed park area, city councilwoman Angela Hunt and local activists argued that the road would cripple the planned development; tollway supporters pointed to the planned roadway's ability to decongest the undersized "Mixmaster" interchange between I-35, I-30 and US-75, and argued that attempting to move the road would require a cost-prohibitive exercise of eminent domain. Eugène Hénard also proposed the creation of nine additional parks to decongest some areas lacking green spaces: Montmartre park including part of the hill, Saint-Denis park in the 10th arrondissement, Voltaire park in the 11th arrondissement, Ménilmontant park in the 20th arrondissement, Saint- Antoine park in the 12th arrondissement, Maison-Blanche and Croulebarbe parks in the 13th arrondissement, Maine and Grenelle parks in the 15th arrondissement. These parks would be smaller than the first group, but would not be less than in area.

The Quezon City Regional Trial Court issued the writ of preliminary injunction against the Saulog group of companies who attempted to sell their stocks to other bus companies.

The road is expected to reduce travel time by an average of 45 minutes from Daang Hari to Alabang Interchange as well as decongest traffic in Cavite, Las Piñas and Muntinlupa.

The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) is a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) corporation run by the Government of India's Ministry of Railways to undertake planning, development, and mobilisation of financial resources and construction, maintenance and operation of the "Dedicated Freight Corridors" (DFC). The DFCCIL was registered as a company under the Companies Act 1956 in 2006. First 2 DFC, Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), from Uttar Pradesh to Mumbai and Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC), Ludhiana in Punjab to Dankuni in West Bengal, which will decongest railway network by moving 70% of India's goods train to these two corridors, are both on track for completion in December 2021. 99% required land for these 2 have been acquired, and 56% of WDFC and 60% of EDFC is complete as of July 2020.

As part of the modernisation of the Mbarara-Katuna Road (2011 - 2015), a new northern bypass road is planned for the town. The bypass will start from the Coca-Cola Plant on Mbarara-Masaka Road at Makenke, pass through Rwebishuri and Nkokonjeru and join the Mbarara- Kabale Road at Katatumba Resort, about southwest of the central business district. The bypass is expected to decongest the city centre by taking the long-distance trucks destined for and coming from Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo off of Mbarara's city streets. The road is expected to cost about €170 million (US$210 million), of which the European Union is expected to lend about €122 million (US$153 million) with the government funding the balance from its own resources.

In 2009, a law was passed by the Rivers State House of Assembly and governor Amaechi's administration to spread development to the surrounding communities as part of the effort to decongest the Port Harcourt metropolis. The Greater Port Harcourt region, spans eight local government areas that include Port Harcourt, Okrika, Obio- Akpor, Ikwerre, Oyigbo, Ogu–Bolo, Etche and Eleme. Its total population was estimated at 2,000,000 as of 2009, making it one of the largest metropolitan areas in Nigeria.

The bridge was constructed along with the Butuan Bypass Road, which aims to decongest traffic along the Agusan-Misamis Oriental Road in downtown Butuan, through official development assistance from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation worth PH₱2.2 billion.

In 2003, then-President Roh Moo-hyun sought to relocate the national capital of South Korea from the metropolitan city of Seoul to a new multifunctional administrative city in the centre of the country. The goal was to reduce the influence and dominance of Seoul on national governance and economics, whilst promoting the regional development of other areas of the country. According to the former Interior Minister Maeng Hyung-gyu in 2012, "Sejong is a symbol of the country’s efforts toward more balanced regional development," helping to decongest Seoul and spur investment in the country’s central region. Another extension to Bauan, called the Batangas City–San Pascual–Bauan Road (originally Batangas City–Bauan Toll Road), is proposed by the Department of Public Works and Highways as an alternative to the existing national road between Batangas City and Bauan. The proposed toll road is being constructed as an at-grade bypass only, connecting with Diversion Road, with right of way acquisition and construction works started on February 21, 2018.
