Cengage Learning, Phrases such as "mental retardation", "mentally retarded", and "retarded" are also subject to the euphemism treadmill: initially used in a medical manner, they gradually took on derogatory connotation. This had occurred with the earlier synonyms (for example, moron, imbecile, cretin, and idiot, formerly used as scientific terms in the early 20th century). Professionals searched for connotatively neutral replacements. In the United States, "Rosa's Law" changed references in many federal statutes to "mental retardation" to refer instead to "intellectual disability".

That plan would have cost seven figures and was quickly discarded.

"At that time I was going through deep depression. I thought I was on a divine mission ... to kill René Bousquet and that if I did not do it I would have no right to eternal grace". But now he was just a "normal bloke" ("un simple quidam"). His media profile could not be completely shaken off, however. In his well received 2010 debut novel HHhH, Laurent Binet mentioned Didier, identifying him as the "spectaculaire abruti" (loosely, "eye-watering cretin") who had deprived France of the "trial of the century".

It also has a gdt command (game debugging technique, a reference to the DDT debugger) which enables the player to move any object (including the player) to any room. Use of gdt requires answering a random question requiring deep knowledge of the game. The game's response to a wrong answer ("A booming voice says 'Wrong, cretin!' and you notice that you have turned into a pile of dust") appears in many "fortune cookie" databases. The Fortran version was also included in the distribution media for some Data General operating systems.

The Idiot by Evert Larock (1892) An idiot, in modern use, is a stupid or foolish person. It was formerly a technical term in legal and psychiatric contexts for some kinds of profound intellectual disability where the mental age is two years or less, and the person cannot guard themself against common physical dangers. The term was gradually replaced by the term profound mental retardation (which has itself since been replaced by other terms). Along with terms like moron, imbecile, and cretin, it is archaic and offensive in those uses.

In The Third Wheel, when Greg and Rowley become private investigators Greg looks through the window at his house to find him playing one of Greg's video games with Rowley.

In "Mongolism" Brousseau argues that a precursor of the Mongolian idiocy was to be found in the "furfuraceous cretin" described by Édouard Séguin in Idiocy and its Treatment by the Physiological Method (1866). The term Mongolism was replaced by the term Down Syndrome only later, in 1961, after Clemens Ernst Benda signed a petition on The Lancet journal. Brousseau was treasurer and director of the Southern California Society of Mental Hygiene. Brousseau was a member of American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Association of University Professors, American Association of University Women, Women's Overseas Service League, Lique d'Hygiene Mental of Paris, American Psychological Association, Southern California Academy of Criminology, Ecole d'Antropologie-Paris.

Quite, quite stuck, Felix whirls about the air several times in his tiny prison, dropping defeated here but regrouping swiftly and sending the bucket flying off. The question marks of a moment past give way to an exclamation point of indignation, and in rushes Felix again to confront the cretin. The mouse gives chase about the floor and up the tent pole, thence to the roof and down the pole again; the vermin slips out from under the wall of the tent and spies a garden hose, wherein he hides just as Felix, spotting his prey, emerges. The cat leaps on a bulge in the hose, thinking for a moment that he has won; but the clever devil slips away, knocking Felix over.
While the term "idiot" is, in the present day, not used in a medical, legal or psychiatric context, instead meaning a stupid or foolish person, the term previously held meaning as a technical term used in both legal and psychiatric contexts for some type of profound intellectual disability, wherein the disabled person's mental age was considered to be two years or less. Along with terms like "moron", "imbecile", and "cretin", "idiot" has become an archaic description in legal, medical and psychiatric contexts, becoming instead an offensive term deemed outdated and discriminatory towards those it was once used to describe. The term was gradually replaced with "profound mental retardation", which has since experienced euphemistic evolution and been gradually replaced with other terms.

Stewart Jackson replied from his verified Twitter account "Suck it up whiner...". Jackson attracted attention in October 2016, when he used Twitter to state that patriots should not subscribe to The Economist, a liberal, free-market magazine, because of its arguments about the problems leaving the EU would entail. After losing his seat in 2017, Jackson contacted a former constituent who had been critical of him on Facebook to call him a "thick chav", and also wrote: "If you print any shit about me on Facebook in the future you will regret it." In October 2018, Jackson, who is known for his pro-Brexit views, was again criticised after tweeting: "What a pathetic cretin" in response to a picture of an ill child with a duvet depicting the European Union flag.
Cretin High School and Derham Hall High School were allowed to remain because they were located within the Saint Paul City limits. The vote also let St. Bernard's, St. Agnes and St. Paul Academy join the Conference if the desired although they all were in different athletic conferences. The decision allowed Saint Thomas Academy and Hill-Murray to remain for the 1986-1987 school year and guaranteed them a non-conference schedule during the 1987-1988 school year but forced them to find a new conference for the 1989-1990 school year or to schedule games as an independent. Hill-Murray and Saint Thomas Academy applied for entry into the Twin Cities Federation or Umbrella Conference, then a twenty three school athletic conference split into three distinct conferences.

Janusz Szpotański, (pen names Władysław Gnomacki, Aleksander Oniegow) (January 12, 1929 in Warsaw - October 13, 2001 in Warsaw) was a Polish poet, satirist, critic, translator, literary theorist and chess player (a three times chess champion of Warsaw, he also held a nationwide title of Master). He was the creator of satirical tragi-comedic poems which ridiculed the communist government of Poland. These works were often written in an absurdist, grotesque style, and specifically lampooned prominent members of the Polish communist party, as well as the general "low life" mentality of the average Communist Party member. He is best known for creating the character of "Towarzysz Szmaciak" (literally: Comrade Dishrag, but idiomatically Comrade Cretin or Comrade Scumbag) - an uneducated, dull, cynical, sadistic, anti- semitic and stupid individual who supported the communist party out of opportunistic, not ideological motives.
Salemme and Joerger offered "the most damning alternative analyses that had yet been advanced within the ranks of the Trotskyist movement. The Salemme-Joerger document, entitled 'The U.S.S.R. and Stalinism', declared that the 'victory of Stalin in the party, the adoption of the theory of 'Socialism in One Country', the expulsion of the Left Opposition and the crushing of the workers' democracy and workers' control, signified that at the head of the U.S.S.R. there ruled a counter-revolutionary group which ruled in the interests of a new Russian bourgeoisie.'" The document went on to declare that the Soviet Union was "capitalist and fascist" and that revolutionaries must "stand for no 'material aid' to the Russian regime in time of war nor to its allies." They also attacked Trotsky as a "juridical cretin" for insisting that nationalized property meant that Stalinist Russia remained a workers state.
And whose fragmentation of approaches creates distancing with the public, which he does not even know what it is; the infantile fable of Duendes and Abracadabra and also not sagacious enough for adolescents." he still wrote that "Xuxa is lost between the children's audience and the youth in a plot run by Moacyr Góes." Claudio Szynkier, writing to Folha, criticized the concept of fatherhood set out in the film "full of disappeared, rejected or cretin parents: a dark and strangely symptomatic idea of culture in which there is an authority of the image (in this case, Globo TV) playing paternal role. a system that also provides for the collage of synthetic fragments of a film imaginary: Indiana Jones grafted here, "The Goonies" there, all as fuel structural, fast consumption, for the film floor. The audiences surveyed for Adorocinema gave the film 4 stars out of five, with a score of 3.8 points.

The Saint Paul Seminary's Metropolitan Cross From the beginning of his episcopacy, Archbishop John Ireland wished to be able to provide ordained priests for the ever- increasing Catholic population of the Upper Midwest, and began seeking funding for the creation of a new seminary. The primary financier to bring about John Ireland's vision of an Archdiocesan seminary was James J. Hill, a Methodist and the president of the Great Northern Railway. Despite being Protestant, Hill's wife, Mary, was a devout Roman Catholic and the half-million-dollar gift and endowment to start the Saint Paul Seminary were in honor of her. Being overly dedicated to even the smallest aspects of the new seminary project, Hill's influence over the completed project could be seen on a larger scale in that the six initial buildings were made to look like a train depot (the seminary administration building), a steam engine (gymnasium and physical plant), box cars (Cretin, Grace (though constructed in 1913), and Loras halls), a refectory, and a roundhouse (school building).
Irving went on to call the Auschwitz death camp a "tourist attraction" whose origins Irving claimed went back to an "ingenious plan" devised by the British Psychological Warfare Executive in 1942 to spread anti-German propaganda that it was the policy of the German state to be "using 'gas chambers' to kill millions of Jews and other undesirables". During the same speech, Irving denounced the judge as a "senile, alcoholic cretin".. Following his conviction for Holocaust denial, Irving was banned from visiting Germany.. Inside a barracks in Auschwitz II Birkenau. In 1992 during his appeal for his conviction for Holocaust denial, Irving called Auschwitz a "tourist attraction". Expanding upon his thesis in Hitler's War about the lack of a written Führer order for the Holocaust, Irving argued in the 1990s that the absence of such an order meant that there was no Holocaust.. In a speech delivered in Toronto in November 1990 Irving claimed that Holocaust survivors had manufactured memories of their suffering because "there's money involved and they can get a good compensation cash payment out of it".
