83 Muir was appointed to the Board of Trustees for the City of Miami's Public Library in 1962, at the recommendation of county commissioner Alice Wainwright. To advocate for a county library system, Muir published an article in The Miami News entitled "Why it's Time for a County Library System," which sparked a thoughtful public debate that ultimately led to the consolidation of the City and County library systems and established the county library system. Muir was elected as the first Chairperson of the Library Advisory Board and appointed to the Dade County Library Committee of the Florida Library Development Council. Along with county representative George W. Dayton, Gunter worked on the Texas County Library Law which passed on March 5, 1917 and was signed by Governor of Texas James E. Ferguson. Though the first county library law would later be repealed, Gunter pushed for a second library law after getting advice from the California State Library. The new law – the 1919 Texas County Library Law – passed and signed by Governor of Texas William P. Hobby. Gunter died on October 10, 1926.
In 1921, the New Jersey Legislature passed a bill providing for the creation of a county library system via referendum for Burlington County. Proponents viewed the measure as a method to distribute books to the rural community and centralize library facilities. Burlington County voters approved the referendum by 73 percent, making the Burlington County Library System the first county library in New Jersey. The library began as a small room of the Mount Holly YMCA, which functioned as the library's depository.

The origins of the Northeast Georgia Regional Library System began with the Clarkesville Library established in 1928. This library, as well as its sister county library (the Cornelia branch) joined alongside the Stephens County Library Program to create the Habersham- Stephens Regional Library System in 1944. The Clarkesville library served as the regional headquarters for the system from 1928 until 2009 when it was replaced by the general NEGRLS processing center.
She also authored a history of the Tulsa City-County Library, "Tulsa City-County Library: 1912–1991," which was published in 1991. Thompson was hired by the Tulsa World as a book editor and columnist in 1977. She was highly involved with the Tulsa Press Club while on staff. She lived in Tulsa for 45 years until 1995, when she moved to Sarasota, Florida with her second husband, T.K. Thompson.

Shafter Learning Center The Shafter Education Partnership, in conjunction with the Kern County Library and Richland School District, opened the Shafter Learning Center in June 2014. The building, which had housed the Shafter branch of the Kern County Library, was remodeled to accommodate two classrooms and a computer lab. Dodge & Dolliver designed the building based on Mission Revival architecture even though James Bertram, Carnegie's personal secretary, objected to their choice. William Henry Curson, the contractor for the Woodland Opera House, was the contractor for the job. Between 1915 and 1979 an agreement was made between the Yolo County Library System and the City Library. The two organizations shared the same building for administrative operations but the Yolo County Library had a separate service establishment.
The Burlington County Library became the first county library in New Jersey when it was established in 1921 in Mount Holly. Thomas Daniel Wilson was born in 1935 at Shincliffe Station in County Durham, England. He left school at age 16 to work as a library assistant in Durham County Library. Following national service in the Royal Air Force he returned to Durham County Library and took the examinations of the Library Association to qualify as a professional librarian. He then moved to being head of a small academic library - head by default, because he was the only librarian.

Hennepin County Library started in 1922 as a horse-drawn "bookmobile" to areas outside the core city of Minneapolis. In early 1979, the Brumback Library was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, qualifying both because of its architecture and because of its place in the area's history. Critical to its importance was its place as the core of the county library system: the Brumback was the first county library to be established anywhere in the United States. It was the second Van Wert County location to be added to the Register; only the county courthouse preceded it.
This building proved inadequate, so a new library building was built on the same location and opened on January 4, 1926. The cost of construction, about $8,000 to $9,000, was funded with donations from local citizens and the library club. During the 1960s the counties of Polk and Floyd joined with Bartow County, Georgia to create the Tri-County Library system. Founded in 1913, the Contra Costa County Library brought a commitment to widespread, county-wide service. Prior to this time, libraries for the public included the Martinez Free Reading Room and Library Association established in 1896 and the Richmond Public Library established in 1909. By the 1920s, there were over 40 branches and the Contra Costa County Library also provided service to 64 public schools. During the years following World War II, the Library began to reflect the newly developing suburban nature of the county it served.

In 1948 the Cobb County Board of Education established the Cobb County library, taking advantage of state matching funds in order to secure monies for books to support a future county library system. During this same time, and into the early 1950s J. Dennis Kemp became concerned about the lack of library resources in unincorporated areas of Cobb County and went to the county commissioner to see if library outreach could be afforded to these communities. A county-appointed study committee, created in 1956 began to explore the possibilities of joining the Cobb County library collection with the existing Clarke Library. The next year the committee finalized a merger creating the Cobb County-Marietta Public Library Board, and two years later in 1959 they combined and brought the Clarke and Fort Hill libraries to the system.

The Punta Gorda Public Library is located in Punta Gorda, and is one of four branches composing the Charlotte County Library System. Salt Lake County Library Services began operations early in 1939, when the first location was housed in two school rooms in the old Midvale, Utah School. Small libraries were subsequently established in several county schools. The library was immediately very popular with the residents, issuing library cards to 1,700 patrons between January and April 1939. Though the law passed originally in 1917, it was repealed. With the newer and reworked Texas County Library Law of 1919, the law was petitioned in 1920 and led to a county library being established.

The Atlantic County Library was founded in 1926 following a public referendum which was held in compliance with the law for establishing a county library. All communities were automatically included in the library’s services except Atlantic City which already had a municipal library. The first librarian was Jane Brown and the library’s first location was a room on the ground floor of the American Legion building on West Second Street in Mays Landing. By the end of 1926, the total collection was 13,000; there were four local libraries, eight deposit stations, 57 grammar schools with collections as well as four high schools with beginning collections. The first Children’s Librarian was employed in 1930. The 1950s were the expansion years and the beginning of a building, equipment, and contingency fund. In 1952, the library owned 49,000 volumes and 5,543 requests. In 1967 grants of $15,000 were available which were renewable for five years; the county library received a grant to develop a good reference collection.

In 1938 the first iteration of a county library in Hart County began with the Hartwell Woman's Club appointing a library committee and requesting book donations from each member of the community. Books at this time were housed in the Community Woman's Club House and circulated twice a week by volunteers. By 1939, with the advent of Franklin Delano Roosevelt's Public Works Administration, a paid librarian was hired and the collection was moved to a nearby drug store with rent paid for by various support groups in the community. In 1941, the Hart County Courthouse underwent renovations and planned to add an annex to house the county library collection.
Flagler County Library System consists of two branches with over 57,000 borrowers. The Main Branch is located at 2500 Palm Coast Pkwy NW, Palm Coast and the Bunnell Branch is located at 103 E Moody Blvd, Bunnell. The Flagler County Library system currently employees eighteen staff, with fourteen full-time employees and four part-time employees with an annual operating budget of $1 million. The Wayne County Library The founding of the Three Rivers Regional Library System may be attributed to the first library in Wayne County, as this county is the home of the current central headquarters for the system. Built in 1937 through efforts by the Works Progress Administration, the Wayne County Library started off with a small, inadequate building. By the end of 1938 many of the books in the collection were already in bad repair, and public funding of the library was minimal. Constant financial support was afforded to the library by the Georgia Library Commission for its first decade in order to stay afloat.

In March, community volunteers manned an office space provided by First National Bank (now serving as office for the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce), and opened the library for donations including books, furniture, and cash. An initial $5,192 was raised to establish the library as a member of the Northeast Texas Library System.

For his lifetime work as a children's illustrator, Bryan was U.S. nominee in 2006 for the biennial, international Hans Christian Andersen Award, the highest recognition for creators of children's books. The Ashley Bryan Art series was established at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center of the Broward County Library in 2002. Dr.Henrietta M. The first libraries to lay the groundwork for what would become the Bartram Trail Regional Library System were the Mary Willis Library and the Taliaferro County Library. In 1967 these two individual libraries signed a contractual agreement to form what was known as the Wilkes-Taliaferro Regional Library System. Three years into this agreement, in 1970, Greene County, Georgia joined the system and lengthened the name to the Wilkes-Taliaferro-Greene Regional System. By 1974, with the incorporation of McDuffie County, the library system voted to shorten its name to its current form and create a Wilkes County Library Board in order to oversee the daily operations of their newly grown library system.
The Fresno County Public Library was founded in 1910 and housed at that time in the Fresno City Library building, which had been constructed in 1904 with a $30,000 donation from philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. Subsequent gifts provided Carnegie libraries in Selma, Clovis and Sanger between 1906 and 1916. Sarah E. McCardle was the first County Librarian, developing the library into the then second largest county library in the state with 54 branches, 152 elementary and high school libraries and a circulation of 748,553 volumes. In 1917, the two organizations merged and the Fresno County Board of Supervisors became the governing body for the County Library system, with 12 communities initially designated to have county branches.

Opioid epidemic After his daughter's death, Bannon and his wife established The Jessica Autumn Bannon Memorial Film Collection on September 26, 2015 with 1,500 film and television titles. In 2017 the collection consisted of 2,000 titles. The bulk of the collection is housed in the Chester County Library in Chester, South Carolina.
Kenton County is served by a county library with branches in Covington, Erlanger, and Independence. The Erlanger Branch has grown to be the busiest branch library in the state of Kentucky. The fire that destroyed the capitol in 1935 also caused damage to the library collections, when the water used to fight the fire drained into the basement. In 1969 the Library took over Talking Book and Braille library services for blind and print-disabled Oregonians from the Multnomah County Library in Portland.

The Old Wakulla County Courthouse (constructed in 1892-1893) is a historic site in Crawfordville, Florida, located at Church Street. On May 3, 1976, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Thought to be Florida's last wood-frame courthouse still in use, it was restored and became a Wakulla County library.

In June 2009, with the help of the Barkley Advertising Agency the Johnson County Library system implemented a unique marketing strategy. The courier trucks the library uses to transport materials from one branch to another have been designed to represent some of the iconic individuals from literature from the angle of a product advertisement.

The Belmont Library is a branch of the Multnomah County Library, located in Belmont, Portland, Oregon. The original library building opened in 1924 and was expanded in 1937 with the addition of a children's room. The brick building had small round windows and large oak tables. Waldo is served by the School Board of Alachua County. Upon closure of Waldo Community School in 2016, elementary students are now zoned for Chester Shell Elementary in Hawthorne. The Sonoma County Library system consists of several branches throughout the County. In 1996, when the Town of Windsor offices moved to a nearby building, the existing Town Hall building was renovated to house the Windsor Regional Library. The new full service branch library at the edge of the Town Green was dedicated on November 3, 1996.

The Dickinson Memorial Library and Park is a historic site in Orange City, Florida, United States. The library is located at 148 Albertus Way. Volusia County library website The park is located on the corner of East Graves Avenue and U.S. Hwy 17–92. It contains tables and park benches around a gazebo and two water fountains.
There is also an Alpine County Sheriff's office and fire station, as well as a County library and K-6 public school. On summer weekends and holidays, there is bus service to Lake Alpine, which is a popular nearby recreation area and lodge. In winter months, there is a shuttle to the ski area in daily operation.
The building was completed in 1924, located at the corner of Second and Queen Streets. Later the library was made part of the Franklin County Library and began to receive funds from the County and State, though the Afternoon Club still donated funds through at least 1979. During the American Civil War it served as a military hospital. It was then occupied as a Masonic lodge until acquired by the Greenbrier College for Women. In 1935, the college deeded it to the town for use by the Greenbrier County Library and Museum. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

The Sammamish City Council is elected by the community. Of the seven council members, two members are elected as Mayor and Deputy Mayor. Council meetings are held at City Hall, part of the Sammamish Commons, which is also the site of Sammamish Library, a branch of the King County Library System. Sammamish does not have its own post office.

The Harnett County Library System is based in Lillington, Harnett County, North Carolina, in the United States. The main library building in Lillington has 14,395 square feet and employs 14.5 full-time-equivalent staff.
Askew worked to increase the effectiveness of public libraries. In 1906, she founded a summer school for the staff of small libraries to share knowledge and skills. Concerned with providing books to rural areas still without a local or county library, Askew began sending "traveling libraries" - shipments of around 300 books - to community buildings throughout the state.

Since its opening, the center has hosted more than 38 major exhibits and served more than 895,000 customers. The chosen building site, at 207 Mill Street, near the intersection of Mill and Neal Street, had been the birthplace and early home of philosopher Josiah Royce. Thirty-eight Dakota Amerindians were hanged for participation in the conflict. A total of 303 were sentenced to be hanged but President Lincoln pardoned 265 at Whipple's urging. Lincoln's intervention was not popular at the time. Two commemorative statues are located on the site of the hangings (now home to the Blue Earth County Library and Reconciliation Park).
The Johnson County LibraryJohnson County Library serves the residents of Johnson County, KS, including Mission, KS. It has thirteen locations county wide. JCL's Antioch Road location in Merriam, KS is just to the west and the Cedar Roe location in Roeland Park, Kansas is just to the north. However, the library does not have a location in Mission proper.
For the next three years he served as Deputy Commissioner/Chief Librarian, supervising library staff while working with the city and its consultants and serving as the library board's liaison with contractors building the new library, which would become the Harold Washington branch. In 1990 Morrison returned to the Broward County Library, this time as the director of the library system. During Morrison's years with Broward County Library, the system grew from four branches to thirty-eight branches; the system was named Library Journal's "Library of the Year" in 1996. Inspired by a visit to the Auburn Avenue Research Library on African American Culture and History in Atlanta, Morrison began promoting and fundraising for the creation of the Broward County Library's African-American Research Library and Cultural Center.
Eden Prairie Reading Center, ca. 1972 Eden Prairie's first community library was located in the Eden Prairie Consolidated School, which opened in 1924. The school board contracted with Hennepin County Library to use the school library space, and the first librarians were responsible for managing both the school and county library collections. Eventually the school collection increased to the point that there was no space for the county collection and the partnership with the school library was dissolved in the 1950s. The Hennepin County Bookmobile then served the community until the 1970s. The first independent location of the community library opened in 1972 as the Eden Prairie Reading Center, a 1540 square foot double Quonset hut located at 7420 Eden Prairie Road, with a collection of 12,000 items.
The Fort Myers Regional Library branch houses the county library system's genealogy collection, the largest in Southwest Florida, in their dedicated Genealogy Room. Patrons can access print, microform, and digital resources for their research needs. In 1989 Anthony Edwards, librarian of the Ennistymon branch of the Clare County Library, and Maureen Rynne, joined hands to organise a festival to promote traditional singing. The County Board of Supervisors serves as the District's Board of Library Directors. In 2007, the Maricopa County Library District opened Perry Library, which abandoned the traditional Dewey Decimal System in favor of categorical shelving (i.e., Shelf Logic). Their Sun City Library moved to Shelf Logic in 2009 as did its Gila Bend (2012) North Valley Regional and El Mirage Libraries in 2013.
The Atlantic County Library System utilized the service to create a browsable collection of artifacts from its Egg Harbor City German Project, which is organized and accessed at the library system's website but draws dynamically from the New Jersey Digital Highway repository through a search portal. This project resulted in the digitization of more than 30,000 immigration records and thousands of photos.
The council picks a mayor and vice-mayor once every two years at the first council meeting in January. Laramie is the county seat of Albany County and houses county offices, courts, and the county library. In 2015, Laramie passed an LGBT anti-discrimination bill. The ordinance bans discrimination against LGBT people in employment, housing and public accommodations such as bars and restaurants.

Clearview Public Library is a public library serving the residents of the Township of Clearview, Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada, and through contracts to the residents of the adjoining townships of Adjala–Tosorontio, Simcoe County, and Mulmur, Dufferin County.
