Galen of Pergamum, a Roman physician and philosopher, first described corneal tattooing in 150 AD, and the same procedure was later described by Aetius in 450 AD as an attempt to mask the leucomatous opacities of the eye. Both physicians would cauterize the corneal surface with a heated stilet. After the cauterization, they would apply the dye to the eye, using a variety of dyes, such as powdered nutgalls and iron (see iron gall ink) or pulverized pomegranate bark mixed with copper salt. This would then stain the cornea, correcting the cosmetic appearance for the patient.

ReLEx SMILE is the latest advancement in laser vision correction technology. In August the album, Into the Mouth of Badd(d)ness, was released in the United States and Canada through iTunes, and the next month the CD version was released in Canada through Aquarius Records. In January 2009, the band entered The Boom Cave, a recording studio in Oshawa, Ontario, owned by Chuck's former Cauterize bandmates Jesse Smith and Jason Bone, to record the band's first EP. The EP, entitled God's Favorite Sons was co-produced by the band, Jesse Smith and Jason Bone, and self- released by the band in March 2009, sold only at their live shows, as well as few local shops around the Ontario area. The band started playing live shows, playing original songs as well as a lot of punk covers from The Clash and Misfits, which were sung live by guitarist Ben Davies. Not long after, drummer Matt Worobec also returned to the band. In late 2009, Ben Davies left the band, leaving Chuck and Dave the only guitarists.

A combination of archaeological and anthropological studies offer insight into man's early techniques for suturing lacerations, amputating unsalvageable limbs, and draining and cauterizing open wounds. Identification of the underlying cause plays an important role in treatment. Aside from his more supernatural skills, Riddick is in superlative physical condition and is an exceptional fighter with or without the use of his eyes. Whether as a result of his Furyan heritage or simply training, Riddick is stronger, faster, more agile, tougher, more resistant to damage and injury, possessing more acute senses, immense stamina, and superior healing when compared to most humans; he is shown on more than one occasion dislocating his limbs for brief moments with only slight signs of discomfort, although he was in more obvious pain when his leg was broken in a fall, and had to use a heated rock to cauterize a wound when he was impaled in the chest by a creature's sharpened tooth. In general, Riddick possesses an abnormally high threshold of pain and psychologically channels what pain he does feel into anger. His ability to cope with toxins is also heightened; when a merc team was attempting to take him out with horse tranquilizers, it took four darts just to make Riddick stop running, and he still remained conscious until he was hit in the head.
