The rolls used to supercalender uncoated paper usually consist of cast iron and highly compressed paper, while the rolls used for coated paper are usually cast iron and highly compressed cotton. The finish produced varies according to the raw material used to make the paper and the pressure exerted on it, and ranges from the highest English finish to a highly glazed surface.

As described in a film magazine, wealthy Dorothy Calender (Valli) withdraws a string of pearls from her uncle's keeping to assist her brother with a debt. A detective is following her about and with the aid of others almost succeeds in getting his hands on the pearls. Billy Kirkwood (Rawlinson), who thinks Dorothy is a thief but wants to save her from her folly, secures the pearls from the escaping crooks and restores them to the young woman. Later it develops that the detective is dishonest and the whole gang is locked up, while Dorothy declares her love for the man who saved her property.

The third type of finish is called a plater finish, and whereas the first two types of finish are accomplished by the calender stack itself, a plater finish is obtained by placing cut sheets of paper between zinc or copper plates that are stacked together, then put under pressure and heating. A special finish such as a linen finish would be achieved by placing a piece of linen between the plate and the sheet of paper, or else an embossed steel roll might be used. The twelve eclogues of The Shepheardes Calender, dealing with such themes as the abuses of the church, Colin's shattered love for Rosalind, praise for Queen Elizabeth, and encomia to the rustic Shepherd's life, are titled for the months of the year. Each eclogue is preceded by a woodcut and followed by a motto describing the speaker. The opening line of each eclogue expresses characteristics of the month, and the poem as a whole charts common accuracy of the seasons, the toil and celebrations of the village year. The precision of the description of birds, flowers, and harvests is balanced by an underlying theme of the hardships and rituals that each season entails.

With the expansion of the rubber industry the design of calenders grew as well, so when PVC was introduced the machinery was already capable of processing it into film. In 1570 Grindal became Archbishop of York, where Puritans were few and coercion would be required mainly for Roman Catholics. His first letter from his residence at Cawood to Cecil told that he had not been well received, that the gentry were not "well-affected to godly religion and among the common people many superstitious practices remained." It is admitted by his Anglican critics that he did the work of enforcing uniformity against the Roman Catholics with good- will and considerable tact. He must have given general satisfaction, for even before Parker's death two persons so different as Cecil (now Lord Burghley), and Dean Nowell independently recommended Grindal's appointment as his successor, and Edmund Spenser spoke warmly of him in The Shepheardes Calender as the "gentle shepherd Algrind".

A copy, which may be of a first edition, survives in the Berlin library The tract was a screed of crude personal abuse against Balthasar Schupp. Any shortage of subtlety in the text is more than balanced by savagery. The true identity of the author has never been pinned down, although two centuries later a consensus had emerged that the author was probably Schupp's old clerical antagonist, Pastor Johannes Müller, and that furthermore Schupp knew it. In English, poems with envoi have been written by poets as diverse as Austin Dobson, Algernon Charles Swinburne and Ezra Pound. G. K. Chesterton and Hilaire Belloc went through a period of adding envois to their humorous and satirical poems. Using an envoi as a 'sending-out' poem was already quite typical by the eighteenth and nineteenth century, with poets like Henry Longfellow using the form in the 1890s, and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe writing his 'L'envoi' which he addressed to the reader. Ezra Pound's 'Envoi' to his longer poem Hugh Selwyn Mauberley (1920) begins "Go, dumb-born book", and thus explicitly gives the 'Envoi' title to the long-standing genre of writing a farewell poem addressed to the book of poems itself, previously used for example by Edmund Spenser in The Shepheardes Calender (1579) or Anne Bradstreet in 'The Author to Her Book' (1650s).

Robert was born in County Cork about 1596, the eldest son of John Travers of Ballinamona, who was Registrar of the Consistory Court of Cork and of the Diocese of Ross, and his wife Sarah Spenser, sister of Edmund Spenser. His grandfather is generally recorded as Brian Travers who came to Ireland from Lancashire in the middle of the sixteenth century. Smith Travers, 1864 "Collection of Pedigrees of the Family of Travers; or Abstracts of Certain Documents Collected Towards a History of that Family", Edmund Spenser 1884 "The Complete Works in Verse and Prose" could find no support for a link with Brian Travers, Higginson, 1912 "Spenser’s Shepherd’s Calender in Relation to Contemporary Affairs" concludes that the "relation of the Irish John Travers, who married a Sarah Spenser, to the Travers family of Lancashire is therefore entirely hypothetical".

He made his debut in 1964 as a poet in Radio Opole and in the newspaper Trybuna Opolska, and as a journalist in Słowo Powszechne, for which he was a field correspondent from 1964 to 1966.
