The multiple world champion, who won gold in the two-man bobsleigh on Monday, steered his sled to a 0.29 second lead over Won Yun-jong's South Korean team, who enjoyed the support of a raucous hometown crowd at the Olympic Sliding Centre.

Their exploits in 1988 also left a permanent Winter Olympic legacy known unofficially as the "Jamaica rule," whereby certain qualification criteria were required for all countries wanting to compete in bobsleigh at the Games, instead of just being able to rock up.
