The ampullae are round when seen from the front, with a flattened body giving convex faces and a small neck, often with a fitting round the neck for a chain or cord by which they could be suspended, or perhaps worn. There are records of similar blessed objects, or eulogia, being hung on the bedpost for protection from demons at night,Vikan (1982), 12 and the oil, or just the relic, was believed to be able to heal the sick when applied to them.Vikan (1998), 235 Often there is a strip in a different metal running round the edge of the faces and up the sides of the neck, with little rings for a suspension cord. In the Monza examples these strips are secured by wire wound rather untidily round the neck.

The Allmusic review by Bruce Eder awarded the album 3.5 stars stating "Although it doesn't have anything as universally popular as "The Unicorn" to pull people in, the Irish Rovers' third album is a most genial and accessible record, filled with low-key playing and singing, alternating with bursts of exuberance in the singing and playing. Indeed, "(The Puppet Song) Whiskey on a Sunday" almost comes off as a Gaelic equivalent to sunshine pop, whereas "Shamrock Shore" is a bit more traditional in its sensibilities but no less catchy and rousing. Will Millar, George Millar, and Jim Ferguson get featured vocals across the dozen songs, which range from Leadbelly's "Goodnight Irene" to Brendan Behan's "Liverpool Lou," with a detour into the ridiculous ("Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavor on the Bedpost Overnight"). Wilcil McDowell gets the last word with a featured accordion solo on "Rovers Fancy.

Another indication that the woman is not pregnant is that Giovanna Cenami (the identification of the woman according to most earlier scholars) died childless,Harbison 1990, 267 as did Costanza Trenta (a possible identification according to recent archival evidence); whether a hypothetical unsuccessful pregnancy would have been left recorded in a portrait is questionable, although if it is indeed Constanza Trenta, as Koster proposed, and she died in childbirth, then the oblique reference to pregnancy gains strength. Moreover, the beauty ideal embodied in contemporary female portraits and clothing rest in the first place on the high valuation on the ability of women to bear children. Harbison maintains her gesture is merely an indication of the extreme desire of the couple shown for fertility and progeny.Harbison 1990, 265 There is a carved figure as a finial on the bedpost, probably of Saint Margaret, patron saint of pregnancy and childbirth, who was invoked to assist women in labor and to cure infertility, or possibly representing Saint Martha, the patroness of housewives.
