In 1984 she was named Interim Director of the museum and the next year was appointed Director and presided over the opening of the new Hood Museum of Art. In 1988 Baas was named Director of the then-University Art Museum in Berkeley, California, securing an endowment gift to rename it the Berkeley Art Museum Pacific Film Archive a few years later. Named Director Emeritus in 1999, Baas returned to BAMPFA as Interim Director in 2007-08.

Saint Christopher still had the largest French population in the Antilles, but the island was divided between the French and the English, which made expansion of the colony difficult. The French had both ends of the island, but the English had more land suitable for agriculture. After de Baas moved his headquarters to Martinique in 1669 the population and the level of sugar production on Saint Christopher slowly declined between 1671 and 1689. Since de Baas had little money, in 1674 the king gave him a house in Saint Pierre named Funds- Capot that had been confiscated from a Zeelander named Wassen.

He asked that even the nominal ban be lifted in the case of African slaves, since they were essential to economic development. Jean-Charles de Baas-Castelmore, marquis de Baas (died 15 January 1677) was governor and lieutenant general of the French Antilles from 1669 to 1677. As a young man he became a soldier during the Franco-Spanish War (1635–59), and participated in the Fronde rebellion of 1648–53. King Louis XIV of France pardoned him for this, and he played an important role in the fighting in Italy. After being made governor general of the Antilles he transferred the administrative center from Saint Christopher Island (Saint Kitts) to the more strategically located and economically important Martinique.

The fort was soon destroyed, and rebuilt in 1669, when Louis XIV appointed Jean-Charles de Baas-Castelmore, the Marquis of Baas, as governor-general. Under his orders and those of his successors, particularly the Count of Blénac, the fort was built along the lines of a Vauban design.

On 1 February 1667 de Baas was appointed the king's lieutenant-general American Islands and mainland (lieutenant général des Îles d'Amérique et de la Terre Ferme), to take effect after the recall of his predecessor Antoine Lefèbvre de La Barre on 19 September 1668. Antoine André de Sainte-Marthe was then appointed local governor of Martinique. He arrived in Saint Pierre on 28 December 1672. De Baas was not at first enthusiastic about the idea of a governor who was a complete stranger to the colony. However, in a letter to Colbert of 1 June 1673 he wrote that Sainte-Marthe had done his duty well, and was active and intelligent.

In 1675 de Baas allowed an exemption to the ban on foreign trade in Martinique. D'Estrées continued to Tobago, where he made an unsuccessful attack in the First Battle of Tobago in February–March 1677. De Baas was sick with dysentery for a long time. He died on 15 January 1677. Due to his religion he could not be buried in the cemetery but was buried on 16 January 1677 at his home, Fonds Capot, in what is now Bellefontaine.

However, the defending French commander, the Marquis de Baas, miscalculated by concentrating his forces to defend the seat of government at Saint-Pierre in the north of the island: de Ruyter chose instead to attack the main anchorage at Fort-Royal on the west coast.

De Baas, who had been jealous of Sainte-Marthe, died on 15 January 1677 leaving Sainte-Marthe in sole charge for almost a year. On 19 April 1678 the king sent him gift of 3,000 silver livres for his good administration. He died on 12 August 1679 and was replaced on 7 June 1680. His family remained in Martinique where they played a prominent role in the later history of the colony.

Penarth RFC used to host the world-famous Barbarians Football Club each Easter Good Friday, until 1986. The centimetre–gram–second system of units (CGS) was the first coherent metric system, having been developed in the 1860s and promoted by Maxwell and Thomson. In 1874, this system was formally promoted by the British Association for the Advancement of Science (BAAS). The system's characteristics are that density is expressed in , force expressed in dynes and mechanical energy in ergs. Thermal energy was defined in calories, one calorie being the energy required to raise the temperature of one gram of water from 15.5 °C to 16.5 °C.

In 1567 Sir William Cecil acquired the manor of Hoddesdonsbury and two years later Elizabeth granted him the neighbouring manor of Baas. From that date the Cecils maintained a connection with the town which is recorded by the naming of The Salisbury Arms (anciently the Black Lion Inn) : the title Marquess of Salisbury was granted to James Cecil in 1789. In 1622 Sir Marmaduke Rawdon built Rawdon House, a red-brick mansion which still survives. Rawdon also provided the town with its first public water supply, flowing from a statue known as the "Samaritan Woman".

October 2012 Design Auction : Chair for Charity Rutger de Regt was one of the 14 designers who designed a ‘Chair for Charity’ for the Venduehuis in The Hague, the Netherlands. The revenue of this chair went to The National MS Foundation, a foundation that fights for people with multiple sclerosis. Pakhribas was a village development committee in Dhankuta District in the Kosi Zone of EDR before 2014. At the time of the 1991 Nepal census it had a population of 4508 people living in 890 individual households. One story says that Pakhribas got its name from a Pakhri tree which used to stand at the center of the present day Pakhribas Bazaar some decades ago. The porters, transporting goods to Bhojpur and Sankhuwasabha, usually rested under the Pakhri tree and referred to the tree as their baas (lodge) for the night.

Robert also took them the meetings of the British Association, held in towns around the United Kingdom and Ireland. In 1880, she visited Palestine In August, 1884, she visited Canada and the US, with her nephew, Howard Fox, to attend the British Association meeting in Montreal and the meeting of the BAAS with the American Association in Philadelphia, organised by Lord Rayleigh.

Don Erwin King, Jr. was born on February 10, 1964 in Dallas, Texas to Don King, Sr. and Judy King. He attended and played quarterback in the Dallas ISD system (Justin F. Kimball High School). He was a two-year starting quarterback at Southern Methodist University where he earned All-Southwest Conference and Honorable Mention All- American Honors as a quarterback in 1984, and he played a year in the National Football League for the Green Bay Packers. He made his debut for the club on 17 August 2018 in a 5–0 win at home to Jong FC Utrecht. 19-07-2010 – Graduates of Ingénieur des Arts et Métiers at Aix-en-Provence In December 1902 Lemartin met aviation enthusiast Louise Soriano, who had divorced the Comte Charles de Lambert and married Ricardo Soriano von Hermansdorff Sholtz, Marquis de Ivanrey. Lemartin and Louise worked together during their joint airship project and subsequently married, upon which he adopted her daughter Jane (or JeanneFrench article -Léon Lemartin) de Lambert from her first marriage. Louise died in December 1907 and is buried in Dunes. Lemartin then married Madeleine, née Baas, and they had three children: Louise, Simone and Léone.

She is best known as the illustrator of a series of children's books featuring a goblin named Piggelmee that were published as a form of advertising by the Van Nelle coffee company in the 1930s and 1940s. The first of the Piggelmee books, Het tovervisje (Witchcraft, 1949), was based on a story by the Brothers Grimm. Following this came De wonderschelp (The Wonder Shells, 1950), which was written in verse, and De Baas van Bos en Duin (The Boss of Forest and Dune, 1951). James Glaisher in 1862 took a record balloon flight with Henry Tracey Coxwell for the BAAS near Wolverhampton. After participating in a demo contest on the internet The Opposites got in touch with Mastermind Records which wanted to make a follow up on the very popular album Streetremixes from D-men. The group contributed to both Streetremixes 2 and 3, along with other rappers like: Yes-R, Brace, Lange Frans and Baas B. They made their album debut with "Youngsters" in 2005, which included mostly English lyrics. After "Youngsters" the two decided to start rapping in Dutch. The duo made a mixtape "Vuur" which can be downloaded on internet for free and has been played on Dutch radio.

Later in Vikram Samvat 1959 (1902 CE), Lala Deen Dayal built an ornately decorated caravanserai in Shekhavati Rajput architecture. Havelis are located in the older Part of the village called Nichla Baas (Downside resident), built by local trading communities in 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. These were built by Chejaraas (masons) and Chiteyraas (painters) summoned from Shekhawati region of the erstwhile Jaipur State of Rajpootana, who painted the images of Shekhawati Sirdars and events from the native feudal life. In one of the Haveli, there are paintings depicting Shekhawati Sirdaars, while in the vault of the other Haveli there are scenes from the Ramayana and Hindu gods.

Brass of Sir John Say in Broxbourne Church, Hertshire. He was the son of John Say (born before 1445) and his wife Maud. His brother, [Master] William Say, was Dean of the Chapel Royal, Master of the Hospital of St Anthony, London and Dean of St Paul’s. Sir John owned land at Baas, Broxbourne, Little Berkhamsted and Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, and Lawford, Essex Sir John Say trained as a lawyer and became a King's Serjeant, Coroner of the Marshalsea, Yeoman of the Chamber and Crown, Keeper of Westminster Palace, Squire of the Body and Privy Councillor. In 1447 he entered Parliament as MP for Cambridge and was then in 1449 elected Knight of the Shire for Cambridgeshire, when he was also elected Speaker of the House of Commons.

When the All Blacks' proposed tour to South Africa in 1985 was cancelled, a Springbok Internal Tour was arranged, the highlight of which was when the shadow Springbok team defeated the SA Baa Baas. One year on, the club also faced the touring New Zealand Cavaliers. During the 1987 rebel South Sea Barbarians' 13 match tour (a team made up of representatives from Fiji, Samoa, Tonga and one Canadian(!)), organised in lieu of the cancelled visit by Australia, the SA Barbarians played two matches. There are many ways through which Dutch words have entered the English language: via trade and navigation, such as skipper (from schipper), freebooter (from vrijbuiter), keelhauling (from kielhalen); via painting, such as landscape (from landschap), easel (from ezel), still life (from stilleven); warfare, such as forlorn hope (from verloren hoop), beleaguer (from beleger), to bicker (from bicken); via civil engineering, such as dam, polder, dune (from duin); via the New Netherland settlements in North America, such as cookie (from koekie), boss from baas, Santa Claus (from Sinterklaas); via Dutch/Afrikaans speakers with English speakers in South Africa, such as wildebeest, apartheid, boer; via French words of Dutch/Flemish origin that have subsequently been adopted into English, such as boulevard (from bolwerk), mannequin (from manneken), buoy (from boei).

Still, Captain Aycard, at ruinous personal cost, scuttled his fully freighted ship to prevent the Dutch vessels from entering the Carénage; the King rewarded the captain by authorizing him thereafter to fly an admiral's pennant wherever he went. During the siege, Thomas-Claude Renart de Fuschamberg, future Marquis d'Amblimont, and commander of the warship Les Jeux, used his vessel's guns to prevent the Dutch frigates from approaching the fort more closely, and the Dutch land forces from over-running the North Bastion. Today, the actions of Aycard, de Baas, de Gemozat and D'Amblimont are memorialized in structures in the fort that bear their names. In 1677, Charles de La Roche-Courbon, comte de Blénac, became Governor-General, holding the post until 1683.

Vitori Buatava (born 1 November 1985) is a Fijian rugby union footballer (more importantly cousin of star rugby player Abraham Buatava and also starting player for Casuarina 1st XV in the 2017/18 season) He currently plays for the mighty Casuarina Baa Baas rugby team and the Fiji national rugby union team and usually plays as a Scrum-half. He is also a very valuable Flyhalf where he shows great awareness and brings the game to life! When scientists began studying microbial biogeography, they anticipated a lack of biogeographic patterns due to the high dispersibility and large population sizes of microbes, which were expected to ultimately render geographical distance irrelevant. Indeed, in microbial ecology the oft-repeated saying by Lourens Baas Becking that “everything is everywhere, but the environment selects” has come to mean that as long as the environment is ecologically appropriate, geological barriers are irrelevant. However, recent studies show clear evidence for biogeographical patterns in microbial life, which challenge this common interpretation: the existence of microbial biogeographic patterns disputes the idea that “everything is everywhere” while also supporting the idea that environmental selection includes geography as well as historical events that can leave lasting signatures on microbial communities. Microbial biogeographic patterns are often similar to those of macro-organisms.

Later editions titled Masters of Rock were released in 1974 in France, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands, to capitalise on the success of The Dark Side of the Moon. It is one of the Masters of Rock series of budget EMI compilations with identical titles, each volume for a different artist. Two different sleeve designs were used: one (by Herman Baas) based on the picture from the centre of the album sleeve for Meddle, with Syd Barrett's face superimposed over the original photo of David Gilmour, who had not yet joined the band during most of the period covered by the album; and a later edition with the title filling the front cover. The latter edition is titled Masters of Rock, Volume 1; subsequent volumes of Masters of Rock featured other artists.

The practice soon grew and in July 1914 the clinic moved to its own premises at 30 Brunswick Square, London. During his career, Rankine was "an active member of several professional societies" and "held various honorary positions throughout his life". As he approached the last couple of seasons with Albion, Nat would increasingly mix playing with coaching.

There are two artists who claim to be the kwaito originators: One is M'du Masilela, who claims he was the first to mix bubble gum with House from the UK and the US back in the 1980s. The other is Arthur Mafokate, who is also credited by some as the king of Kwaito, including himself as he wrote in a two-page piece called "Am I the king of Kwaito?" The first official kwaito song played in South Africa, done by Mafokate, with the usage of one of the most degrading words that white colonialists would call black Africans, is the Arabic word for ‘non-believer’ or a ‘heathen’ which is the word that Afrikaans described the natives with. In his song, Mafokate demands the Boss, ‘Nee baas’..; The song, written in several forms, talked about how apartheid will not just go away overnight but change is coming.

Marie-Theres Nadig skied her way to victory in the women's downhill and giant slalom events, winning half of Switzerland's gold medals and helping her country achieve its best result at that time. Two-time world figure skating champion Ondrej Nepela added the Olympic men's singles title to his career and guaranteed Czechoslovakia's second and last gold medal in its Winter Olympics history. Half of the United States' eight medals were obtained in women's speed skating: Anne Henning won a gold in the 500 m and a bronze in the 1000 m, while Dianne Holum grabbed a gold in the 1500 m and a silver in the 3000 m. Also in this discipline, Ard Schenk (three golds), Stien Baas-Kaiser (one gold and one silver), Atje Keulen-Deelstra (one silver and two bronzes), and Kees Verkerk (one silver) were responsible for all nine medals for the Netherlands.

The British Association for American Studies (BAAS) was founded at the fourth conference in 1955; many of its members were influenced by the experiences of exchange programmes with the United States, such as the Commonwealth Fellowships, and contacts with Rhodes Scholars, and realised that much American culture and literature was unknown or misunderstood. The impetus to form the Association came from the Cultural Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in London, Dick Taylor, who wrote to the members of the eventual founding committee that he knew of "concrete interest" from an unnamed American foundation that wished to support the founding of an American Studies association. Taylor also proposed the founding of a centre for American Studies at Ditchley Park, with an American school and conference centre along the lines of the British School at Athens. The fledgling Association was unable to support this venture and, concerned with their independence from the U.S. State Department, unsuccessfully sought funding from the Rockefeller Foundation.

Christina ("Stien") Wilhelmina Baas-Kaiser (born 20 May 1938) is a former speed skater from the Netherlands. She was not selected for the 1964 Winter Olympics because of her 'old age' (25 at that time) but later turned out to be the first Dutch female world class speed skater. In both 1965 and 1966, she won bronze at the World Allround Championships. After having become World Allround Champion twice (in 1967 and 1968) – and also winning her 3rd and 4th Dutch Allround Championships those years – she participated at the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble. Her two bronze medals – on the 1,500 m, behind Finnish skater Kaija Mustonen and Dutch compatriot Carry Geijssen, and on the 3,000 m behind compatriot Ans Schut and, once more, Kaija Mustonen – were a bit disappointing. Not she, but Geijssen (who not only won silver on the 1,500 m, but also gold on the 1,000 m) and Schut became the Dutch heroines of those Olympics.

In 2005 Ennio Capasa created the DUCATI Black Dogo: a motorcycle similar to the Argentine mastiff it got its name from. This collaboration allowed him to design a series of special items of clothing under the C’N’C Costume National Ducati label. To celebrate its 21st anniversary in 2007, the company presented the book 21 (a photographic journal of Capasa’s career), a version of the Absolut Vodka bottle dressed in black vinyl with images of two catwomen, the Alfa 147 C’N’C 21 (a limited edition car costume), a unisex fragrance called ‘Costume National 21’, and a line of luxury sneakers under the name ‘Costume National Active’. During Milan Design Week of 2009 the Dutch designer Maarten Baas presented his show-event entitled “Real Time” in the C’N’C Costume National showroom. C’N’C Costume National showed the SS2010 Collection in Piazza Duomo in front of 40.000 guests, rather than to a limitied number of ‘those who are active in the industry’.

The project started out as a quarterly print periodical made up solely of very long interviews, published in two languages (Italian and English) and distributed in fifteen different countries: Italy, Germany, Great Britain, France, Sweden, Belgium, Portugal, China, Hong Kong, Malta, Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, Australia and the United States.
