His opening act is then started, but the light fixtures overload and the bulbs explode, leaving him unable to perform.

The sketch "See You Next Wednesday" mocks theater-based gimmicks like Sensurround by depicting a dramatic film presented in "Feel-a-Round", which involves an usher physically accosting a theater patron. The film is number 87 on Bravo's "100 Funniest Movies," and is considered, along with The Groove Tube, to be one of the groundbreaking films of the entire spoof and mockumentary genres of film making.

Anecdotally the pseudonym 'Andrew MacAllan' was conceived by Leasor and his literary agent, Gillon Aitken, during a long lunch. Leasor was now in his sixties and finding it harder to interest publishers in new book projects. They were happy to publish some of his proven successes, such the Jason Love thrillers – but even then they would limit their print runs to 20,000 in hardback, which would virtually all be snapped up by libraries. They would then say that few had been sold to retailers and that therefore there was no popular demand for a larger run. Leasor was also frustrated by people accosting him at drinks parties claiming that it was now virtually impossible for a new author to get published on merit alone, without some fashionable backstory to excite the publisher’s interest.

The area gained notoriety in April 1989 due to the Central Park jogger case. A white female jogger was badly beaten and raped at night in the North Woods, when 30-32 youths from East Harlem were known to have been roaming through the park, and accosting and sometimes assaulting eight other persons. According to The New York Times, the attack was "one of the most widely publicized crimes of the 1980s". A group of four black and one Hispanic teenagers, who became known as the "Central Park Five", were convicted of this and another assault, and sentenced to years in prison. Hogan during his time with the nWo At Bash at the Beach in 1996, during a six-man tag team match pitting The Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) against WCW loyalists, Hogan interfered on behalf of Nash and Hall, attacking Randy Savage, thereby becoming a villainous character for the first time in nearly fifteen years. After the match, Hogan delivered a promo, accosting the fans and WCW for under-appreciating his talent and drawing power, and announcing the formation of the New World Order (nWo). The new stable gained prominence in the following weeks and months. Hogan grew a beard alongside his famous mustache and dyed it black, traded his red and yellow garb in for black and white clothing, often detailed with lightning bolts, and renamed himself "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan (often shortened to Hollywood Hogan).

On the day of Anna's trial, Phelan testifies against her by recounting the time she slapped Seb across the face mere moments before his ladder accident occurred. He then expects his apprentice to confirm his theory when Seb is called up next; to his surprise, however, Seb betrays Phelan by changing his statement and confirming Anna's story — pointing Phelan as the perpetrator behind the incident, in front of the court. This apparently helps with Anna's case when Eileen starts to doubt her viewpoint on Phelan, up to the point when she secretly visits Anna in person to question her about his activities; Phelan moves out of the house to stay with Billy after learning about this from Eileen. As the trial continues, with Anna's longtime friend Roy Cropper (David Neilson) and Tim each giving their statements on her behalf, Eileen ends up uncovering CCTV footage of Gary and Tim accosting Seb in the taxi — causing her to believe that they coerced him in conspiring with Anna against her husband by retracting his story; she promptly delivers the evidence to court, thus destroying Seb's testimony and reconciling with Phelan.
