Another pioneer was the English band Carcass, which performed grindcore on its first two releases but morphed into death metal and an increasingly melodic style on the Necroticism – Descanting the Insalubrious (1991) and Heartwork (1993). Ceremonial Oath and Eucharist also played melodic death metal in the very early 1990s, however never gained much attentioned outside of their own scene.

Later, he stood for the Biplobi Sainik Sangshta (Revolutionary Sepoy's Organisation) in opposing the military rule and took shelter in the Sundarbans with his followers as part of the resistance. Ziaduddin was arrested in an army operation in the Sundarbans in 1976. Along with many other descanting military officials and political leaders, he was sentenced to life imprisonment by a military court. In 1980, he was freed on presidential clemency.

Symphonies of Sickness is now considered a landmark in the deathgrind sub-genre of heavy metal music. In December 2018, it became the third Carcass album to be inducted into the Decibel Hall of Fame; the first two being Necroticism - Descanting the Insalubrious and Heartwork respectively. This accolade would reward 50% of the band's full-length discography a Hall of Fame entry. In the same year, Loudwire's Eduardo Rivadavia named Symphonies of Sickness as the best goregrind album ever made in 2018.

Bill Steer at Gods of Metal, Bologna, Italy (2008) Symphonies of Sickness (1989), the second album, which contained a much improved production quality (courtesy of Colin Richardson), featured more death metal structures and longer songs with more slow passages. The second half of the tour in support of Symphonies of Sickness saw the addition of second lead guitarist Michael Amott, whose previous work included Carnage. Amott was to become a permanent member, playing on the second Peel Session and contributing material towards their third album. Necroticism – Descanting the Insalubrious (1991) showed even more intricate composition, further improved production and guitar solos.

His collected writings, which include expositions of the Epistle to the Ephesians and of the Apocalypse, were published in five folio volumes between 1681 and 1704, and were reprinted in twelve 8vo volumes (Edin., 1861–1866). Edmund Calamy the Elder's estimated Goodwin's qualities as a considerable scholar and an eminent divine, and had a very happy faculty in descanting upon Scripture so as to bring forth surprising remarks, which yet generally tended to illustration. A memoir, derived from his own papers, by his son Thomas Goodwin the Younger, Independent minister at London and Pinner, and author of the History of the Reign of Henry V) is prefixed to the fifth volume of his collected works.

The closing track, "Songs for the Damned", includes lyrics that reference famous heavy metal albums and songs by Opeth (My Arms, Your Hearse, Blackwater Park, Damnation), Slayer (Reign in Blood), Carcass (Swansong, Necroticism – Descanting the Insalubrious, Heartwork), Cannibal Corpse ("Stripped, Raped and Strangled"), Deicide (Once Upon the Cross), Dying Fetus (Destroy the Opposition), The Dillinger Escape Plan ("Sugar Coated Sour"), Iron Maiden ("2 Minutes to Midnight"), and Danzig (as well as the song "20 Eyes" by Danzig's early band, the Misfits). This is also the first album to include clean vocals in tracks such as the title track and Memories of a Glass Sanctuary. The album sold just under 5,000 copies in its first week of release entering the Billboard 200 at number 126. Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett listed the album as one of his top 25 favorite albums from 2000 to 2009.

Plagued by constant lineup changes, Carnage eventually recorded their only album Dark Recollections with Amott as the sole original member, but by the time the album came out on Necrosis records in 1990, the band was broken up.Willems, Steven. Soon afterwards, Amott was recruited by Carcass in 1990, and released the seminal album Necroticism – Descanting the Insalubrious in 1991. The band would go on to release their highest selling album, Heartwork (Columbia/Sony), in 1993, helping to define what is now known as melodic death metal. Amott left Carcass in 1993, and decided to form a classic rock influenced band, Spiritual Beggars. The band released their debut album Spiritual Beggars in 1994, which led to a European record deal with Music for Nations, who released Another Way to Shine in 1996.
