Zoar is a census-designated place (CDP) and unincorporated community in Menominee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 98 at the 2010 census. Zoar is located along Wisconsin Highway 47, approximately northwest of Neopit. Situated within traditional Menominee territory, it is known in the Menominee language as Saqnawehnaen, a name which refers to a fork in a stream.

Zoar Valley was named by Ahaz Allen, an early 19th-century settler of the region. The name is of biblical origin, referring to the city of Zoar from the Book of Genesis. The extent of Zoar Valley's use by Native Americans is unclear due to subsequent disturbance by farming and settlement activities; however, findings from nearby archaeological sites suggest that indigenous peoples likely made use of the area. Frozen Prydden Falls meets Lake Zoar at the shore. The Zoar Trail extends from its southern terminus at the end of Great Quarter Road in Paugussett State Forest in Newtown, then follows a route northwest along the western bank of the Housatonic River until, at the northernmost point, it turns south-east and proceeds roughly south-east back to the terminus at the end of Great Quarter Road. The Zoar Trail is primarily used for hiking, backpacking, picnicking, and in the winter, snowshoeing. Portions of the trail are suitable for, and are used for, geocaching, mountain biking and cross- country skiing.

Just northwest of the Dead Sea is Jericho. Somewhere, perhaps on the southeastern shore, would be the cities mentioned in the Book of Genesis which were said to have been destroyed in the time of Abraham: Sodom and Gomorra (Genesis 18) and the three other "Cities of the Plain", Admah, Zeboim and Zoar (Deuteronomy 29:23). Zoar Moravian Church (The Zoar Church) is a historic church in Laketown Township, Minnesota, United States, near the city of Waconia, Minnesota. It was built in 1863 by a congregation of immigrants from Hopedale, Pennsylvania. It is built in a Greek Revival style, typical of other early public buildings in Minnesota. The steeple was moved forward in 1908 to create a bell tower.

Canyon depths within the Zoar Valley Multiple Use Area are the greatest within the entire Cattaraugus Creek corridor, ranging up to along the South Branch and along the Main Branch. Several nearly vertical rock faces approach in height. The property also contains large stands of old-growth forest with trees of unusual size and height, which are further protected as part of the state-designated Zoar Valley Unique Area.

Zoar Valley is a popular regional destination for outdoor recreation. The Zoar Valley Multiple Use Area is open to the public for activities including fishing, hunting, hiking, white-water rafting, and nature study. The area is closed between sunset and sunrise, and camping is not permitted on the property. As the area is not officially a park, there are few safety barriers in place to prevent falls into the gorge.

William Cowper, the first pastor of Zoar Chapel, lived at Providence Cottage in Upper Dicker; in the 1970s documents were found there which related to the ministry of James Reed of Chiddingly, a prominent Baptist preacher of the late 18th century. William Vine, the third pastor at Zoar Chapel, was previously linked to the Strict Baptist chapel in Hailsham. Ebenezer Chapel at Bodle Street Green changed from Independent to Strict Baptist in 1864 as a result of its new pastor's involvement with Zoar Chapel: originally an Independent, he was received into the Strict Baptist Church at Lower Dicker and asked for Ebenezer Chapel to realign in the same way before he accepted the pastorate.

A functional tunnel of the Underground Railroad, still in existence today, connects a former train drop-off area of the New York and Lake Erie Railroads near the foot of Gowanda-Zoar Road to an outlet on the property formerly owned by William and Evelyn (Merrill) Glazier, a local surgeon and nurse. Located on Gowanda-Zoar Road, the home was used as a safe house for former slaves escaping to free states and Canada from Southern states around the 1860s and the time of the American Civil War. A homemade railroad sign is posted on the property at the location of the tunnel's outlet. Notable within the Zoar area are maple trees that are approximately 200–300 years old.

Paugussett State Forest is a Connecticut state forest with two separate sections located on impoundments of the Housatonic River in the town of Newtown. The forest's Upper Block encompasses approximately on the western shore of Lake Lillinonah. It offers boating access to the river and hiking on the blue-blazed Lillinonah Trail. The forest's Lower Block encompasses approximately on the western shore of Lake Zoar and offers hiking on the blue-blazed Zoar Trail.

The Zoar Trail is a Blue-Blazed hiking trail "system" in the lower Housatonic River valley in Fairfield County and is entirely in the Sandy Hook section of Newtown in the lower block of Paugussett State Forest. The Zoar "Blue-Blazed" loop trail circles the border of the Paugussett State Forest "lower block" as an elongated oval whose length goes from southeast to northwest. The northeast trail section follows the shore of Lake Zoar (the section of the Housatonic River between the Stevenson Dam to the south and the Shepaug Dam to the north) while the southwest trail section roughly follows the Paugussett State Forests inland boundaries. There are four short side trails which have rectangular blue blazes with yellow dots in the middle.

The Pomperaug and Crest trails can be used together as a "loop" trail. There are shorter side trails in the park which have rectangular blue blazes with red, white, orange or yellow squares on their bottom border. The Campground side trail connects the Lake Zoar shore campground section of Kettletown State Park with the Pomperaug trail. The Miller trail is a 1+ mile loop trail around the northern boundary of Kettletown State Park with scenic overlooks of Lake Zoar.

Zoar is a settlement in Garden Route District Municipality in the Western Cape province of South Africa. Village and mission station 21 km east of Ladismith. It was founded by a group of over 200 German Separatists seeking escape from religious persecution in their homeland, on the farm Elandsfontein in 1817 and named after Zoar on the Red Sea, mentioned in the Bible (Gen. 14:2-8). The name at first meant ‘insignificance’, but when Lot fled thither from Sodom, it acquired the meaning of ‘haven’.

Within the Unique Area, activities such as logging and gas drilling are prohibited. Prior to being designated as a Unique Area, the old- growth forest within the state-owned portion of Zoar Valley was at danger of being logged; the additional protection was the result of lobbying by activists and local residents. Traditional natural resource management activities, including logging, are permitted to take place outside of the Unique Area. Approximately of plantation forests were established within the Zoar Valley Multiple Use Area during the 1960s and 1970s.

Some of this sediment load is derived from silt/clay tills common along the river, but some likely stems from agricultural activities. As is the case with many streams draining agricultural lands, fecal coliform levels can be elevated at high flows. During summer storm events, especially after a prolonged dry period, bacterial levels can exceed 10,000 colony forming units (cfu); bacterial levels are low most other times. Lake Zoar is not stocked yearly with fish by the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, but the Pootatuck and Pomperaug rivers feed into it are heavily stocked with trout, many of which eventually make their way into the lake.

In 1922, the former Monroe and Zoar Bridge Turnpike (more commonly known as simply the Monroe Turnpike) became part of the Connecticut state highway system. In 1693, he was appointed "Royal Hydrographer", and on April 30, 1697, he was granted a seigneury southwest of Quebec City which he named Jolliest. In 1694, he sailed from the Gulf of St. Lawrence north along the coast of Labrador as far north as Zoar, a voyage of five and a half months. He recorded details of the country, navigation, the Inuit and their customs. Like several other Welsh chapels, Bethesda originated in a split in the congregation at Zoar Chapel nearby. In 1807, Daniel Lewis, the minister at Zoar, visited London and other places to raise funds to clear the chapel's debts. Some members of the congregation objected, and when an independent investigation found in favour of the minister, a number left to establish a new church. Initial meetings were held in rooms and premises at various places in the town, but in 1811 it was decided to build a chapel under the guidance of Methusalem Jones, who had become the minister.

Sign at the boundary of the state-managed Zoar Valley Multiple Use Area The state-managed Zoar Valley Multiple Use Area encompasses a area along an section of the Cattaraugus Creek's Main Branch canyon and a stretch of the smaller South Branch, centered around the confluence of the two streams. The Multiple Use Area is maintained by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. In 2007, the state established the Zoar Valley Unique Area, a area which further protects and preserves the entire state-owned length of the gorge's cliffs and bottomlands, in addition to a buffer area along the gorge's upper rim and along several larger side creeks, where sufficient state-owned land is available. The Unique Area contains the majority of the currently known or suspected old-growth forest, all of the riverside floodplain and terrace woodlands, as well as all of the slope, cliff and talus plant communities.

Four invasive plant species exist in the lake as of a 2007 study, including Eurasian watermilfoil, Brittle waternymph, Curly leaf pondweed, and European waterclover. As with all the Housatonic River impoundments south of Bulls Bridge, Zebra Mussels have invaded and colonized Lake Zoar.

In the 9th century, Al-Sharat's capital was Adhruh, but by the late 10th century, it apparently was replaced by Sughar (Zoar). Other principal towns in the district included Tabuk, Ma'an (Mu'an), Madyan, Aynunah (on the northern Red Sea coast), Wayla (Ayla) and Maab (Rabba).

The Zoar community includes many homes and families living throughout a hilly area with pastures, fields, woods, ponds, and open land. Some residents own farms with dairy cows, horses, and other animals; other residents own homes and property that does not include a farm or farmland.

Kettletown State Park is a public recreation area on the eastern shore of the Housatonic River's Lake Zoar in the towns of Oxford and Southbury, Connecticut. Park activities include swimming, camping, hiking, picnicking, and fishing. The state park is managed by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

This is a Scout camp located in Union, Connecticut. The CT Burn Foundation uses the facility as a summer camp for children with severe burns. This camp has had a long history, first, as Boy Scout camp located on Lake Zoar as part of the Housatonic River system.

Zoar Valley is an area of deep gorges along the Main and South branches of Cattaraugus Creek in western New York, United States. The valley is located along the border of Erie County and Cattaraugus County, roughly between the villages of Gowanda to the west and Springville to the east. The core area surrounding the confluence of the Cattaraugus Creek's Main and South branches is protected as the Zoar Valley Multiple Use Area, a conservation area located within the towns of Collins, Otto, and Persia. The protected area is managed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, and is open to the public for fishing, hunting, hiking, white-water rafting, and wildlife and scenic viewing.

The Tuscarawas River collects Chippewa Creek in Summit County near Clinton, and Sandy Creek in Stark County near Bolivar. In Tuscarawas County, it collects Conotton Creek southeast of Zoar; Sugar Creek at Dover; and Stillwater Creek north of Tuscarawas. Nimishillen Creek, a tributary of Sandy Creek, drains the city of Canton.

Neopit is a census-designated place (CDP) in Menominee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 690 at the 2010 census. Neopit is located along Wisconsin Highway 47 at its intersection with County Road M, approximately southeast of Zoar. The name derives from the Menominee name Neyōpet which means "four sitting".

Zoar Chapel was completed in March 1842 and was a Welsh Congregationalist church. It replaced an earlier structure of 1823 at the cost of £2,300. The building was Grade II listed on 22 August 1975. Before it closed in 2005, it had been one of the largest chapels in Wales.

Zoar is a village in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 169 at the 2010 census. The community was founded in 1817 by German religious dissenters as a utopian community, which survived until 1853. Much of the village's early layout survives, as do many buildings from its utopian origins.

Notably, he sold 5,500 acres of land to the Christian sect, The Separatist Society, led by John Baumeler, that had emigrated from Wurtemberg to Philadelphia. The land, in northeastern Ohio, in present day Tuscarawas County, would later become the village of Zoar, a communistic society ( eine Guter Gemeinschaft / a community of goods).

Morris died of a stroke at his home in New Haven, Connecticut on August 22, 1895. He is interred at the Zoar Cemetery in Newtown, Connecticut. His home in New Haven was purchased by Yale University in 1957 and restored in 1990. The house was originally built in 1873 and features Italianate architecture.

The Kettletown Trails are a Blue-Blazed hiking trail "system" in the lower Housatonic River valley in Fairfield County and are in the towns of Southbury and Oxford -- primarily in the Kettletown State Park and the Jackson Cove recreation area belonging to the town of Oxford. The Pomperaug "Blue-Blazed" linear trail is an in-land trail from near the northern main entrance to the park in Southbury traveling along the inland border of the Kettletown State Park to and south of the Oxford Jackson Cove beach recreation area. The Pomperaug trail connects to another trail which provides a path which crosses the Housatonic/Lake Zoar at the Stevenson Dam to the south and then north to Paugussett State Forest on the western shore of Lake Zoar (the section of the Housatonic River between the Stevenson Dam to the south and the Shepaug Dam to the north). The Crest "Blue-Blazed" linear trail is a coastal trail which aligned with the eastern shore of Lake Zoar through Kettletown State Park from north of the Jackson Cove recreation area up to the northern main entrance to the park in Southbury.

The cliffs along Zoar Valley's gorges are composed of Devonian silt stones and shale, and are part of the Canadaway Formation. The valley's gorges expose stratifications of the Onondaga Escarpment. Cliffs near the confluence of Cattaraugus Creek's South and Main branches reach heights of up to when measured to the tops of nearby hills.

PCB levels in the lake have fallen considerably since the 1980s.

It was partially destroyed by an 1851 fire, and rebuilt using brick by Pollard's son. Another fire between 1884 and 1885 destroyed the structure, as well as its contents. The present house was built in 1890; today it is on the National Register of Historic Places as Zoar. The forest was donated to the Virginia Department of Forestry in 1987.

Aged 33 at the time, he remained at Bethania for thirty years, the longest pastorate in the chapel's history. Hughes was a native of Capel Iwan in Carmarthenshire and had trained at the Neuaddlwyd Academy in Cardiganshire.

The Sand Bar is an accumulation of sand close to the center of Lake Zoar. It is a popular meeting destination for all boaters alike. The depth of the water above the sand bar varies upon the generation schedule of "First Light Hydro Generation." The depth varies from 6 inches of water at its most shallow point to a foot before receiving.

The Biblical city of Zoar, now rendered Zoara, gives its name to the chapel and to others in neighbouring West Sussex: at Handcross (founded 1775; still Strict Baptist) and Wisborough Green (founded 1753; now Evangelical). Former chapels of that name, neither of which survived the 19th century, were at Brighton (Windsor Street) and Hastings in East Sussex. There are several others elsewhere in England.

Bruce Lessels is an American slalom canoeist who competed in the 1980s. He won two medals at the 1987 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships in Bourg St.-Maurice with a gold in the C-1 team event and a bronze in the C-1 event. Bruce is currently married with two daughters and owns an outdoor adventure company called Zoar Outdoor in Western Massachusetts.

The sanctuary is located along the Cattaraugus Creek's South Branch, adjacent to the Zoar Valley Multiple Use Area. Two other privately owned conservation areas, the William P. Alexander Preserve and the Rodger Sweetland Memorial Preserve, are owned by the Nature Sanctuary Society of Western New York. Outside of these protected areas, old- growth forests in the valley are unprotected, and some have been clearcut in recent years.

He also had two pieces at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois. In 1897, he founded a summer art school in Zoar which relocated to Chagrin Falls in 1899.

A Baptist chapel was built on the High Street in 1837. Known as Little Zoar, it was used until 1907 when it became the Parish Room, continuing in the same role today as the Village Hall. A new chapel was built in red brick and stone in 1911, a short distance to the east; it was in use in 1973 but is now a private residence.

The plain was compared to the garden of Eden as being well-watered and green, suitable for grazing livestock. Divine judgment was passed upon them and four of them were consumed by fire and brimstone. Neighboring Zoar (Bela) was the only city to be spared. These back- and-forth interpretations of Eblaite tablets were based on tablets whose facsimiles had not been published for others to study, and some of Pettinato's findings changed. The rendered façade has pilasters and an open pediment. Strict Baptist chapels are characteristically "modest in scale, neat in complexion and restrained" architecturally, but Zoar Chapel is unusually "large and impressive" for the denomination. Set back from the main road in a large graveyard, behind a low hedgerow and with some formally placed yew trees, it has "an atmosphere of grandeur". The building is Classical in style with some Georgian elements.

The area was first inhabited during the Stone Age by Algonquians, a nomadic people. An Algonkian mound from the first or second Stone Age is located on a farm in the area of Rosenburg along Zoar in Gowanda. The mound is believed to be about 3,500 years old, with artifacts including spearheads, copper heads, and stone implements of a crude nature having been excavated from the site.Kirby, C.D. (1976).

Zoar Chapel was built of two stories, in the classical tradition. The top floor, was an octagonal gallery, with steeply-tiered wooden pews on two main sides, one end and two short wings; one between each side and the end. The rectangular building was built of rubble stone with its entrances in a symmetrical five-bay front on the north side. The hipped slate roof has wide eaves.

The river edge and immediate riparian zone are largely intact for most of the river's length. There is only one dam on the main stream, located within Scoby Dam Park about upstream from the Zoar Valley Multiple Use Area. Although a barrier to fish, it does not regulate flow. Sediment load and siltation are Cattaraugus Creek's main environmental issues, and the stream regularly experiences elevated turbidity due to suspended sediments.

A prior, one lane wooden suspension bridge known as "Zoar Bridge" existed just south of the confluence of the Halfway River with the Housatonic, at what is now the Monroe/Newtown town line, about 3/4 mile upstream from the dam/bridge current location. The supports for the old bridge were inundated with the construction of the dam. This bridge was not the predecessor to the current Derby-Shelton Bridge.

One is in a planted native garden on the north side of the Gawler River. The other is north of Womma Road, not far from a small cemetery and ruins of the Zoar Bible Christian chapel which had served the Penfield community. There are interpretive signs at these landmarks and all of the bridges to cross the Expressway, which are named after famous military battles that involved Australian forces.

According to the Ohio Historical Connection, Zoar is an island of Old-World charm in east-central Ohio. The Separatists, or Zoarites, emigrated from the kingdom of Württemberg in southwestern Germany due to religious oppression from the Lutheran church. Leading among their group were some natives of Rottenacker on the Danube. Having separated from the established church, their theology was based in part on the writings of Jakob Böhme.

The impounding of the Housatonic River by the Stevenson Dam created Lake Zoar, a lake with 27 miles of shoreline. and The plant was covered in a Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) study, record CT-183. The Stevenson Dam Bridge, a reinforced concrete bridge that is integrated with the dam, carries Route 34 across the river. The Stevenson Powerhouse is a 160 by 80 ft building rising 131 ft in height.

Canolfan Soar is a bilingual facility in the town centre that includes a theatre, dance studio, music rehearsal rooms, café bar, book shop, teaching rooms and flexible exhibition, meeting and conference facilities. At its heart is Theatr Soar, an intimate venue for the performing arts. Its 200-seat auditorium held its opening performance in February 2011. Six years of planning, fundraising and development transformed the Zoar Chapel, and the adjoining vestry building.

In 1771 George III of the United Kingdom gave a land grant to the Moravian Church to establish missions for the local Inuit in northern Labrador. In the 18th century, Jens Haven and his followers built missions at Nain (1771), Okak (1776) and Hopedale (1782). These missions also served as trading posts. Later on, other Moravian settlements were established at Hebron (1830), Zoar (1865), Ramah (1871), Makkovik (1896) and Killinek in Nunavut (1904).

The trail connects to a Cleveland Metroparks trail at Rockside Road, which continues another north. The Summit County trail continues through Akron and further south through Stark and Tuscarawas counties to Zoar, Ohio, almost continuously, with a single interruption. Sections of the towpath trail outside of Cuyahoga Valley National Park are owned and maintained by various state and local agencies. The trail also meets the Buckeye Trail in the national park near Boston Store.

A deadly and extreme Class VI resides at Great Falls in Canaan (Falls Village) and is most likely not able to be paddled. The most dangerous and difficult section that is navigable is by Bulls Bridge, with Class V whitewater. There are several minor and major dams along the river that form lakes. Most notable are two lakes in Connecticut, Lake Zoar, which borders Monroe, Newtown, Oxford, and Southbury, and Lake Lillinonah.

250px Stephen Buhrer (December 25, 1825 – December 8, 1907) was the Democratic mayor of Cleveland from 1867 to 1870. Buhrer was born near Zoar, Ohio, in Tuscarawas County to Johann Casper and Anna Maria Miller Buhrer. His father died in 1829 and Buhrer was entrusted to the Society of Separatists until he was old enough. Buhrer was educated mainly in Sunday School until he was twelve and he started learning a trade.

Zoar State Forest is a state forest located in King William County, Virginia, near the town of Aylett. It is used to grow timber and agricultural crops, maintain habitat for various species of wildlife, and to provide educational and recreational opportunities. All state forests are managed by the VDOF for multiple-use purposes, including watershed protection, recreation, timber production, fishing, and applied forest research. The state forests are self- supporting (no taxes are used to operate the system).

The Ohio & Erie Canalway Scenic Byway is a 110-mile (177 km) scenic byway located within the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area in Northeast Ohio. The scenic byway begins in Cleveland and ends in New Philadelphia, with a spur connecting Massillon and Canton. It follows the Ohio and Erie Canal through cities ranging from large, industrial cities such as Cleveland, Akron, Barberton, and Massillon to small, quaint villages such as Peninsula, Clinton, Navarre, Bolivar, and Zoar.

Llewellyn was High Sheriff of Glamorgan in 1878 and Mayor of Swansea in 1891. In March 1888, Llewelyn contested the Gower by-election as a Conservative candidate. The Liberal ranks had been affected by divisions over the choice of candidate and Llewelyn ran a strong campaign. Unusually for a Conservative candidate he held meetings in nonconformist chapels, including one at Zoar, Ystalyfera which was said to have been well attended by the working men of the district.

Little Miami Intermediate School, built on donated land at the corner of Zoar and Stephens Road in Hamilton Township and Little Miami Junior High School, built contiguous to the high school, were both dedicated in 2009 and opened to students. After another six years of unprecedented enrollment growth, in May, 2018, voters approved a $64.6 million bond issue to construct a new preK-1 building, and additions to the high school, junior high and intermediate school.

The Wilderness Center (TWC) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit nature center that operates its headquarters in Wilmot, Ohio, located in southwest Stark County, Ohio. It includes an interpretive building, astronomy education building, an observation tower, pier and picnic shelters. TWC's 10 miles of trails go through forest, prairie and along streams and creeks and past ponds and Wilderness Lake. TWC also maintains hiking trails on its Zoar Woods satellite property in northeast Tuscarawas County, Ohio.

Southeast of that crossing is Centerville Public Library. SR 264 continues to the southeast, until it meets its eastern terminus, an intersection with SR 124 (Centerville Highway) north of Centerville. At its eastern terminus, the roadway continues as Zoar Road SW. The route is known as Bethany Church Road for its entire length. No section of SR 264 is part of the National Highway System, a system of routes determined to be the most important for the nation's economy, mobility and defense.

State Route 212 (SR 212) is a two-lane east-west state highway that runs within Stark, Tuscarawas, Carroll, and Harrison Counties in eastern Ohio. The western terminus of SR 212 is at U.S. Route 250 near Beach City, and its eastern terminus is at SR 151 in Bowerston. The route passes through rural areas but passes through small villages including Beach City, Bolivar, Zoar, Sherrodsville, and Leesville. It largely follows the valleys formed by the Tuscarawas River and Conotton Creek.

The Pomperaug Trail loop in Southbury and Oxford primarily parallels the Housatonic River on the high western bank and ridge running south to north. The Pomperaug Trail traverses several high points with scenic views of the Housatonic River though they may be obscured by foliage, particularly in the summer. The trail also travels very close to the eastern bank of the river (Lake Zoar) in some locations. Several year-round and seasonal streams cut across the trail to flow into the Housatonic River.

Nimrim, in Moab, is mentioned twice in scripture in the Tanakh and Bible, in Isaiah 15:6 and in Jeremiah 48:34. Little is known of Nimrim other than it was in Moab. It is mentioned in connection with several cities that were under Moabite control at that time (around 626BC - 586BC) such as Heshbon, Zoar (previously known as, Bela (Genesis 14:8) and Horonaim. Scholars are not in agreement of whether Nimrim was a river, or a lake, or a city.

With the opening and success of the Davis iron pyrite and talc mine in Rowe in the 1880s, a prospecting craze developed in the area. In 1892 the main shaft was 501 feet deep, and production was reported to be 334,552 tons of pyrite.Quinn, A.W. Mining operations were also opened in Charlemont during this period and included the Massachusetts Talc Company in the village of Zoar.

Rapids interrupt the river trail in Brookfield (no portage is available), and three dams across the Housatonic require portages along the way to Long Island Sound.The dams include the Shepaug Dam that impounds Lake Lillinonah, the Stevenson Dam Hydroelectric Plant that impounds Lake Zoar, and the Derby Dam between Derby and Shelton that impounds Lake Housatonic. The Still River Preserve in Brookfield covers about adjacent to the river. The preserve is owned by Weantinoge Heritage Land Trust of New Milford, Connecticut.

The Kettletown State Park trails are on the eastern bank of Lake Zoar, primarily in Kettletown State Park (in Southbury. 'Al's Trail' overlaps with the Lillinonah Trail for the first four miles of each. The two separate shortly before the Lillinonah Trail reaches the Paugussett State Forest parking lot at the end of Echo Valley Road. Al's Trail continues for six more miles through Newtown, Connecticut, ending near the grounds of the former state mental institution known as "Fairfield Hills" (AKA Fairfield State Hospital).

The Zoar Norwegian Lutheran Church is a historic church in rural northeastern Day County, South Dakota. It is a modest wood frame structure, set on a rise south of County Road 4 northeast of Pickerel Lake. It has Gothic Revival styling, and a bell tower capped by a steeple with flared roof. Built in 1904, it is one of a few surviving period country churches in the region, and is distinctive for its use by a Norwegian-American community in an area predominantly populated by Polish immigrants.

Many of these trees are located along South Quaker Street and Vail Road. Each spring for decades, the trees have been tapped by locals in order to make maple syrup and maple sugar candy. Several of the trees have become diseased and have died in recent years, with some having to be cut down. Others were cut by the Highway Department when South Quaker Street was repaved and realigned with the section crossing Gowanda-Zoar Road that connects it to Vail Road around 1990–1995.

German Evangelical Reformed Church, also known as the Zoar Church, is a historic church located north of Newton, Iowa, United States. The congregation was established in 1876 by German immigrants, many of whom settled here in the late 1860s after first living in Freeport, Illinois. with They built a small frame church on this property soon after, and the first burial in the cemetery behind the church building occurred in 1877. The present frame church was built by members of the congregation in 1892.

There was a Congrgationalist tradition at Dowlais before the growth of an industrial community there and the family of Gwernllwynisaf (one of the farms) were prominent in the cause at Ynysgau. One of the early leaders was Methusalem Jones (1769-1839), but following disagreements he withdrew and concentrated on leading the cause at Bethesda, which together with Ynysgau had been instrumental in establishing Bethania. A revival took place in South Wales in 1829. At the time, Bethania shared its minister with Zoar, Merthyr Tydfil.

Robert Alter suggests that verse ("your two daughters who remain with you") indicates that Lot's two virgin daughters left with him, but that he had other, married daughters who stayed behind with the sons-in-law. Lot's wife turns into a pillar of salt, but Lot and his daughters escape to Zoar, and end up living in a cave in the mountains. In Genesis Lot's daughters got their father drunk, and over two consecutive nights had sex with him without his knowledge. They both got pregnant.

After another brief road walk on Thoreau Drive, the trail drops steeply to Round Hill Brook, which marks the Shelton/Monroe border and the beginning of Webb Mountain Park. Camping is available at Webb Mountain through the Town of Monroe. After passing through Webb Mountain, the trail continues to roughly follow the Housatonic River, arriving at an overlook of Lake Zoar, then descending to the Boys Halfway River. The trail then leaves the Housatonic River behind and heads southwest along the Boys Halfway River to Barn Hill Road.

Supply preachers served when permanent pastors were not resident. The chapel was registered for worship under legislation in place before the Places of Worship Registration Act 1855 was passed, so although it has an entry on the General Register (under the terms of that Act of Parliament) it has been allocated the default registration number 1. It was also registered for the conduct of marriages on 4 January 1844. A Strict Baptist chapel in the nearby hamlet of Ripe, which opened in 1830 and closed in 1948, was served from Zoar Chapel for many years.

Most are composed of non-native conifers, although several native hardwood plantations are present as well. Modern timber harvests by the state are intended to encourage native species growth and improve wildlife habitat. In 1905 one span of the structure was relocated to Conotton Creek where it is now a pedestrian only crossing. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, documented by the Historic American Engineering Record and carries the Zoar Valley Trail, the intrastate Buckeye Trail, and the interstate North Country Trail. A 56 foot long single span deck truss of Fink design was built in 1870 to carry trains of the Atlantic, Mississippi and Ohio Railroad (later Norfolk and Western Railway, now Norfolk Southern Railway). The original location of this structure is unknown.

The Paugussett Trail extends from its southern terminus at Buddington Road in Shelton, and travels north through the Shelton Lakes Greenway, Indian Well State Park, and Birchbank Mountain Open Space, then enters the Town of Monroe at Webb Mountain Park, and turns southwest to follow the Boys Halfway River. The northern terminus is on East Village Road near its intersection with Barn Hill Road in the East Village section of Monroe. Today's Paugussett Trail passes through just the municipalities of Shelton and Monroe—both in Fairfield County.

Lewisham Castle Lewisham Castle is a small medieval ringwork about a mile and a half south-west of the village. It is not certain whether it was in fact a castle. In the English Civil War a Royalist force led by Prince Rupert fought a Parliamentarian force in a skirmish at Aldbourne Chase on 18 September 1643, two days before the First Battle of Newbury. A Baptist chapel opened in 1841 in Back Lane and was rebuilt as New Zoar Chapel in 1868. It was sold in 1914 and demolished some time after 1931; its burial ground survives.

At Aylett, the site of Zoar State Forest, the U.S. Highway crosses the Mattaponi River into King and Queen County, where the highway meets the western end of SR 14 at the community of St. Stephens Church. US 360 enters Essex County at Miller's Tavern where the highway crosses the watershed divide between the York River tributaries and the Rappahannock River. The U.S. Highway is named Richmond Highway northeast past Tappahannock-Essex County Airport to Brays Fork, where the highway meets US 17 (Tidewater Trail) at a directional intersection. The U.S. Highways run concurrently into the town of Tappahannock.

Stevenson Dam, which blocks the Housatonic River to form Lake Zoar, and that also functions as the State Route 34 bridge across the river Route 34 is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Connecticut. Route 34 is long, and extends from Washington Avenue near I-84/US 6 in Newtown to the junction of I-95 and I-91 in New Haven. The highways connects the New Haven and Danbury areas via the Lower Naugatuck River Valley. The portion of the route between New Haven and Derby was an early toll road known as the Derby Turnpike.

The number was later revised to nine. Areas near parts of the new freeway were to become a wetland habitat. A portion of NY 39 near the current southern terminus was also reconstructed in 2007 and 2008 to accommodate for the completed interchange with US 219. The rights to the project were awarded to Cold Spring Construction on January 26, 2007, with work commencing on June 1. Altogether, the project was initially expected to cost $86 million and be completed in late 2009. The lengthy construction time was largely due to the need to construct two bridges over the Zoar Valley gorge.

Bear Swamp Generating Station or Jack Cockwell Station is a pumped-storage hydroelectric underground power station that straddles the Deerfield River in Rowe and Florida, Massachusetts. It is one of many hydroelectric facilities along the river, giving that waterway the nickname of "the hardest working river in the county".Zoar Outdoor The reservoir covers , storing about 1.7 billion gallons at an elevation of above sea level, higher than the lower reservoir. To move the huge volumes of water (8,800 cubic feet per second uphill and 10,760 cf/s downhill) in both directions, Bear Swamp uses reversible water turbines of the Francis type.

Griffis Sculpture Park is a sculpture park located between Ashford Hollow and East Otto in Cattaraugus County, New York. The outdoor art museum, which was created by artist Larry W. Griffis Jr in 1966, was the first sculpture park in the United States. It features more than 250 works of art created by over 100 artists, and also serves as a nature preserve, with of trails. Griffis founded the Ashford Hollow Foundation for the Visual and Performing Arts to administer the park, which was most recently headed by Simon Griffis, son of Larry Griffis, until Simon's death at Zoar Valley in June 2010.

The Zulu Congregational Church is one of the oldest African Ethiopian churches in South Africa, it was founded on the 23rd of March 1896 by Rt Rev Simungu Bafazini Shibe at Denver Zoar Umzumbe, KZN. It was formed as an independent from the previous American Zulu Mission at The Table Mountain Mission Station is situated forty miles northwest of Durban in Pietermaritzburg, was founded by American missionary, Samuel D. Marsh, in 1848. Marsh was forced to abandon the station owing to ill health, and from 1850 it was administered by Jacob Dohne, formerly of the Berlin Missionary Society. In 1860 Dohne left the AZM to rejoin his parent society.

The Paugussett Trail access spur crosses railroad tracks near CT Route 34 and Lake Zoar, Monroe, CT. The mainline Paugussett trail is blazed with blue rectangles. It is regularly maintained, and is considered easy hiking, with very few sections of rugged and moderately difficult hiking (notably the initial steep climb near the Indian Well waterfall and the steep climb using "stairs" between two suburban houses at Princess Wenonah Drive in Shelton). Much of the Paugussett Trail is close to public roads. There are limited camping facilities in Webb Mountain Park (reservations required) along the trail and camping is prohibited in Indian Well State Park.

Zoar Strict Baptist Chapel is a Strict Baptist place of worship in the hamlet of Lower Dicker in the English county of East Sussex. Founded in 1837 and originally known as The Dicker Chapel, the "large and impressive" Classical/Georgian-style building stands back from a main road in a rural part of East Sussex. The 800-capacity building included a schoolroom and stables when built, and various links exist between people and pastors associated with the chapel and other Strict Baptist and Calvinistic causes in the county, which is "particularly well endowed with [such] chapels". The chapel was built in 1837–38 and substantially extended in 1874.

In 1910 on his 100th birthday Johnson was presented with a silver tea service by representatives of the cement industry in Britain and several European Countries. In the course of his long life, Johnson also served as a borough magistrate for Gateshead, a county magistrate for Kent, and councillor for the Borough of Gravesend, in addition to serving on a number of commissions, services not untypical for a businessman of the period. He was also president of the Gravesend Liberal Association and the Gravesend Total Abstinence Society. Johnson was a founding member of Zoar Strict and Particular Baptist Church, Gravesend, where he served as a deacon for many years.

Once the crystal is exhausted, her link to Grayskull diminishes and she will revert to her falcon form, Zoar. In the 2002 series, the Sorceress is far from powerless outside Castle Grayskull in her human form, as she demonstrates when she magically defends a village against an evil warlord. The 2002 series also portrays the Sorceress as more capable and more involved with the goings-on of Eternia. Unlike the 1980s Sorceress, who mainly sent psychic calls for help to He-Man, the 2002 Sorceress is more of a defender herself, physically and magically protecting Castle Grayskull and the power of the Elders contained within.

As one of the earliest gas utility companies in the United States, National Fuel Gas witnessed a number of technological firsts at its company or its subsidiaries. Engineers at the company discovered that depleted underground gas fields could be modified to act as storage reservoirs. Thus, the first such storage facility in the US was implemented at Zoar Field, about forty miles south of Buffalo. This turned out to be a great financial asset to NFG in the 1940s and 1950s, when skyrocketing demand for natural gas led to extensive pipelines in the eastern states being connected to new pipelines and fields in the southwestern states.

Webb Mountain Park was a farm owned by the Mr. and Mrs. Alfred E. Wagner which was purchased by the Town of Monroe in 1972.

The mountains of Edom, and the town of Zoar (Sughar) at the southeastern end of the Dead Sea were included in the district.

Hailsham was said to have three, which was a "notably small" proportion given that it was by far the largest of the listed settlements. About from Hailsham was the village of Upper Dicker, a stronghold of Protestant Nonconformism (the 400-capacity Zoar Strict Baptist Chapel had opened in 1838). One resident was a Catholic convert, though, and she wrote to Bishop of Southwark Peter Amigo in 1915 asking for part of her house (Elm Cottage) to be used as a public oratory for herself and local Catholics. Permission was granted, and Fr Paul Lynch of Our Lady of Ransom Church said Mass for her and three other people on 15 July 1915.

The river rises southwest of Hartville in northern Stark County, and initially flows westward, through Uniontown into southern Summit County, where it passes through the Portage Lakes area south of Akron, and Barberton. From Barberton the Tuscarawas flows generally south through Stark and Tuscarawas counties; the communities of Clinton, Canal Fulton, Massillon, Navarre, Bolivar, Zoar, Dover, and New Philadelphia were developed along its banks. South of New Philadelphia, the river turns southwest and west, flowing past Tuscarawas, Gnadenhutten, Port Washington, and Newcomerstown, sites of former Lenape people villages at the time of the American Revolutionary War, into Coshocton County, where it joins the Walhonding River at the city of Coshocton (a former major Lenape site) to form the Muskingum River.DeLorme (1991).

Novomeysky felt the limitations in 1933 when he approached kibbutz Ramat Rachel about organising a labour group to expand operations at the expansive Mount Sodom site; while the northern shore had difficult conditions, the southern site was far harsher due to its isolation from civilisation in the heart of the Judean Desert combined with that region's arid climate. Ramat Rachel contacted the United Kibbutz Movement, which organised a group of 20 who in 1934 travelled to Mount Sodom along with Palestine Potash workers to establish a work camp. Materials arrived from Jerusalem, and water was purchased from King Abdullah. In most continuities from the Filmation series onward, He-Man is the secret identity of Prince Adam, the son of King Randor and Queen Marlena, the ruling royal family of Eternia. Adam becomes He- Man by holding aloft his magic Power Sword and uttering the words "By the power of Grayskull…" and serves as the protector of good on Eternia. He is first given this ability by the Sorceress of Castle Grayskull, a powerful magic user and mystic guardian of the castle, who in many depictions is able to transform herself into the falcon Zoar. Upon Adam's transformation into He- Man, his cowardly green pet tiger Cringer becomes the mighty Battle Cat, a giant armored beast that He-Man often rides into battle.

The former site of Burgate is marked by another Cozen Stone, and on the next stretch of wall, one tower survives, used for a period as a water cistern and now incorporated into the 19th century Zoar Chapel.; ; The south-east stretch of the walls beyond the former site of Riding Gate, marked by a 19th-century plaque, are particularly well preserved, including the Dane John Gardens, used as a public park and decorated with sculptures.; The two towers near this stretch of wall are reconstructions from the 1950s on the original medieval foundations. Another four towers survive between the former sites of Riding Gate and Wincheap Gate, one of which remains near its original height and retains its defensive crenellations.

In Western North America outside the Pacific Northwest, the Columbia Mountains of British Columbia (BC), northern Idaho and northwestern Montana, have more of a continental climate and have pockets of temperate coniferous rainforest. In Eastern North America, there are scattered pockets of temperate rainforest along the Allegheny Plateau and adjacent parts of the Appalachian Mountains from West Virginia to New England. These areas include sections of West Virginia, Western Pennsylvania, as well as Western New York and the Adirondack Mountains. A good example of these forests are found in Zoar Valley in Western New York (nearest major city is Buffalo, New York), Cook Forest State Park within the Allegheny National Forest (nearest major city is Pittsburgh), and Cathedral State Park in West Virginia.

The road runs through agricultural areas and passes to the south of Delaware Coastal Airport, where it makes a curve to the north. US 9 Truck/DE 404 Truck head through a mix of farmland and woodland with some homes to the east of the airport, crossing the Delmarva Central Railroad's Lewes Industrial Track line at-grade before ending at US 9/DE 404 east of Georgetown. US 9 Truck has an annual average daily traffic count ranging from a high of 30,235 vehicles at the Arrow Safety Road intersection along the US 113 concurrency to a low of 5,033 vehicles at the Zoar Road intersection. The portion of US 9 Truck concurrent with US 113 is part of the National Highway System.

Some upland forests within the state lands are very mature in character, but these experienced timber harvesting in the 19th century and light management cutting by the state in the 1970s and 1980s. Zoar Valley's old growth is primarily deciduous, and varies in character and species composition depending upon location and landform characteristics. Northern hardwood stands, including eastern hemlock, sugar maple, American beech, yellow birch, northern red oak, and tulip tree, are widespread, especially on mesic north-facing slopes and on the lower reaches of south-facing slopes. Similar stands are found on the raised terraces within the canyon, where old- growth trees have been noted to achieve great size, both in terms of height and diameter (typically expressed as diameter at breast height [DBH], a standard measurement taken above the tree's base).

The portion of the old Ousatonic road north of Stevenson Dam is now mostly submerged as a result of the damming of the Housatonic to form Lake Zoar and Lake Lillinonah. The state took over the road at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1922, when route numbers were first publicly signed in the New England region, the route from New Haven to the village of Sandy Hook was designated as State Highway 117. The road followed the Derby Turnpike and the remaining portion of the Ousatonic Turnpike to the village of Stevenson, then the rest of modern Route 34 to Sandy Hook. In the 1932 state highway renumbering, old Highway 117 was renumbered to Route 34 with an additional westward extension to the city of Danbury.

The Little Karoo is separated from the Great Karoo by the Swartberg Mountain range. Geographically, it is a 290-km-long valley, only 40–60 km wide, formed by two parallel Cape Fold Mountain ranges, the Swartberg to the north, and the continuous Langeberg-Outeniqua range to the south. The northern strip of the valley, within 10–20 km from the foot of the Swartberg mountains is least karoo-like, in that it is a well-watered area both from the rain and the many streams that cascade down the mountain, or through narrow defiles in the Swartberg from the Great Karoo. The main towns of the region are situated along this northern strip of the Little Karoo: Montagu, Barrydale, Ladismith, Calitzdorp, Oudtshoorn, and De Rust, as well as such well-known mission stations such as Zoar, Amalienstein, and Dysselsdorp.

Troops can choose to outpost camp as part of their summer camp experience - using the patrol cooking method to prepare their own meals in their site, yet still participate in the many advancement and program opportunities in the Seven Ranges summer camp. The Pipestone Camp Honor Program was founded in Camp Tuscazoar, Zoar, Ohio in the summer of 1926 by George M. Deaver, Scout Executive of the Council; C. L. Riley, a teacher at Canton McKinley High School, who was serving as Camp Director at the time; I. W. Delp, Principal of Lehman High School in Canton; and Charles E. Mills, a Scouter who was skilled in theatrical production. The program sought to reward Scouts who excelled in advancement and Scouting spirit while at the camp. The Native Americans of the Tuscarawas valley inspired the ceremonies of the program.

Prior to the major archaeological excavations in the 1980s and 1990s that took place in Zoara, scholars proposed that several sites in the area of Khirbet Sheikh 'Isa and al-Naq' offered further evidence of Zoara's location and history. Further information regarding Zoara in different historical epochs were obtained through the descriptions of Arabian geographers, suggesting that Zoara served as an important station in the Aqaba-to-Jericho trade route, and through Eusebius' statement that the Dead Sea was situated between Zoar and Jericho. Researchers who have studied ancient texts portray Zoara as a town erected in the middle of a flourishing oasis, watered by rivers flowing down from the high Moab Mountains in the east. The sweet dates that grew abundantly on the palm trees surrounding Zoara are also mentioned in some historical texts. Several excavation surveys have been conducted in this area in the years 1986-1996.

The Old Town Hall after its renovation in 2014 to become the Redhouse Cymru arts centre The town has held many cultural events. Local poets and writers hold poetry evenings in the town, and music festivals are organised at Cyfarthfa Castle and Park. With this in mind, Menter Iaith Merthyr Tudful (the Merthyr Tydfil Welsh Language Initiative) has successfully transformed the Zoar Chapel and the adjacent vestry building in Pontmorlais into a community arts venue, Canolfan Soar and Theatr Soar, which run a whole programme of performance events and activities in both Welsh and English, together with a cafe and book shop, specialising in local interest and Welsh language books and CDs. Also on Pontmorlais, Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association was successful in a number of funding bids to develop the Old Town Hall into a new cultural centre, working in partnership with Canolfan a Theatr Soar to turn the Pontmorlais area into a cultural quarter.

In contrast, Protestant Nonconformism in its various forms has fewer adherents than are found in the east of the county, and many Methodist, Baptist and other chapels have been closed. The sale of several chapels in Chichester city enabled Methodists and United Reformed Church adherents to join forces and open a small red-brick church together in 1982; and Baptist worship in the city has a continuous history going back more than 300 years, now maintained in a postwar building in the suburbs. Strict Baptists, whose chapels are much more prevalent in East Sussex, have a 200-year-old place of worship in the city, and the present Baptist church at Westbourne is the successor to an old chapel serving that sect. The reuse of old chapels by new congregations is common: former Congregational chapels at East Dean and Kirdford are now in use by Evangelical groups, as is the 18th-century Zoar Strict Baptist Chapel at Wisborough Green and the former Society of Dependants' (Cokelers') meeting room in Loxwood, the historic centre of that tiny sect.

Rabbi Levi, or some say Rabbi Jonathan, said that a tradition handed down from the Men of the Great Assembly taught that wherever the Bible employs the term "and it was" or "and it came to pass" (, wa-yehi), as it does in , it indicates misfortune, as one can read wa-yehi as wai, hi, "woe, sorrow." He-Man's new ally Ram Man is initially tricked into fighting on the side of Skeletor in He-Man Meets Ram-Man. Man-E-Faces is introduced in The Ordeal of Man-E-faces as an Eternian actor turned into a monster by Skeletor, freed by the Sorceress, only to be magically possessed by three multiple personalities: man, monster, and robot. Skeletor's evil warriors also get their own introductory mini comics, with Tri-Klops as a skilled swordsman/mercenary in The Terror of Tri-Klops and Trap Jaw portrayed in The Menace of Trap Jaw as a criminal from another dimension. In these pre- Filmation stories, the primary characters of Prince Adam, Cringer, Orko, and Evil-Lyn did not yet feature in the series; although the Eternian Palace and Royal Court with King Randor and Queen Marlena (both yet unnamed, looking decidedly older than in the later series) are featured in several of these DC mini-comics, as are the mystical falcon Zoar (not yet an alternate form of the Sorceress) and the Attak-Trak (battle machine, based on the toy, and not yet a robotic-voiced van-like vehicle, as in the Filmation cartoon).
