Section 521 rental assistance is rental assistance authorized under Section 521 of the Housing Act of 1949 (42 U.S.C. 1441 et seq.). Owners of housing financed under Section 515 or Section 514 may receive rental assistance payments from the Rural Housing Service (RHS). The assistance payments enable eligible tenants to make monthly rent payments that do not exceed the greater of: (1) 30% of monthly adjusted family income; (2) 10 percent of monthly income; or, (3) the portion of the family’s welfare payment that is designated for housing costs. On August 8, 1974, Taylor filed a police report claiming that she had been robbed of $14,000 in "cash, jewelry, and furs". Chicago Detectives Jack Sherwin and Jerry Kush, who took the report, recognized her from a similar, previous report and she came under suspicion for false reporting, for which she was later charged. Additionally, Taylor was suspected of welfare fraud after Sherwin found welfare payment checks made out to multiple different names in her apartment. Upon investigating her, Sherwin discovered Taylor was wanted on welfare fraud charges in Michigan. She was arrested at the end of August 1974 for possible extradition to Michigan. Released on bond, she fled the state and was a fugitive until October 9, 1974, when she was caught in Tucson, Arizona.

The pay-rise for his position (up €38,000 to €310,000 per annum), would have made it higher paying than that of the US President and made him the highest paid Head of government in the European Union. Criticism from opposition parties concentrated on the timing of the announcement (following highly publicised budgetary concerns at the Health Service Executive) and the fact that Ahern's increase alone would amount to about four times the basic social welfare payment. Jane Ann Thornthwaite is a Canadian politician who was elected in the 2009 provincial election to represent the riding of North Vancouver-Seymour in the 39th Parliament of British Columbia, and subsequently re-elected in 2013 to the 40th Parliament and in 2017 to the 41st Parliament, all as member of the BC Liberal Party. She has held several parliamentary secretary roles focusing on mental health and addictions. In 2012 she introduced private member's bill (Bill M-214) to establish standards of care for pet breeders and while it was not adopted, a version was included in a 2017 amendment to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. She also introduced private member's bills in 2018 and 2019 addressing care for children at risk of serious harm and reporting on welfare payment methods.
