Later that same year, he joined the staff of Yale University as a teacher of Vietnamese. He would remain associated with Yale for the rest of his life. He passed away from causes of sudden heart failure on November 17, 2008 at 82 years old.

The name Mmaku, meaning welcomer or embracer, came into existence when as a little boy Ezianu, due to his welcoming heart, embraced a spirit in human form. From then on, the name was given to him in addition to his birth name. Mmaku-Ezianu, as he was now called, got married and had two sons, MMaku-Ukwu and Mmaku-Nta. Mmaku-Nta in his turn had five sons: Enugu-Afam, Eziama, Mkpurumkpu, Awo, and Agboneri.

Burton located Redden in Clayton, where he was part-owner of the Cookie Jar Café, and also worked as a cook and dishwasher. His most recognised role was as a main presenter on the now defunct breakfast programme GMTV. Leong's mother, the Japanese pianist Sumiko Nagasawa, gave piano lessons with the infant Dana sleeping in her lap. Leong's violin instructor Marjorie Lin found that Leong possessed perfect pitch when he would repeatedly ask her to tune his violin. As a teen, he studied cello under Kathleen Johnson, Julian Hersh and Irene Sharp while also studying trombone under Paul Welcomer of the San Francisco Symphony, Wayne Wallace and Dr. Arthur Barnes and Fred Berry at Stanford University and David Taylor at the Manhattan School of Music. While in middle and high school, Leong was selected for principal positions playing both Cello & Trombone in the California All State Jazz and classical ensembles, the Monterey Jazz Festival All Star Big Band which toured Japan & California and the National Grammy High School All Star Big Band which performed at the 1997 & 1998 Grammy Awards Events with Boyz II Men and on NBC's nationally televised Today Show.

Among these are a variation set on Lasses likes nae Brandy, deriving indirectly from a composition by David Young, in the Macfarlane manuscript, probably via a later printed collection by McLean - the following tune, a minuet, is attributed to McLean; a variation set on Further Benn the Welcomer, deriving from a version in Flores Musicae, or The Scots Musician, published in 1773, of which a copy is in the Wighton Collection at the University of Dundee; and a tune here called Nea Good Luck, but generally known as Up and war them all Willie, a version deriving from Oswald's Caledonian Pocket Companion of about 1750. Rook's title may derive from the fact that this tune, and the song in 6/8 time, Nae Good Luck, use the same passamezzo moderno ground bass. Versions of Alloway House, The Deukes dang ower my Daddie are also taken from Oswald,.
