70 A severe waterspout strike before the abandonment could explain the amount of water in the ship and the ragged state of her rigging and sails. The low barometric pressure generated by the spout could have driven water from the bilges up into the pumps, leading the crew to assume that the ship had taken on more water than she had and was in danger of sinking.Begg, pp. 140–46 Other proffered explanations are the possible appearance of a displaced iceberg, the fear of running aground while becalmed, and a sudden seaquake.

Illustration from the book The Philosophy of Storms, published in 1841 There was a commonly held belief among sailors in the 18th and 19th centuries that shooting a broadside cannon volley dispersed waterspouts. Among others, Captain Vladimir Bronevskiy claims that it was a successful technique, being an eye-witness to the dissipation of a phenomenon in the Adriatic while being a midshipman aboard the frigate Venus during the 1806 campaign under Admiral Senyavin. A waterspout has been proposed as a possible reason for the inexplicable abandonment of the Mary Celeste.

The text content of the inscription is quite long, and is arranged in a number of lines. However, many of the letters have been eroded and are difficult to read, probably due to the use of the stone as a part of the allegiance ritual described in the inscription. The ritual was likely performed by pouring water over the text of the stone, which would collect at the bottom of the stone, and poured via the waterspout to be consumed by people that swore their allegiance to the king. Some lines of the inscription can still be read.

It is an ornately carved spout sunk several metres below the courtyard level and the Malla kings used it for their daily ablutions.
Multiple tornado warnings were issued throughout New England with a waterspout briefly moving ashore as an EF1 tornado in Westport, Connecticut, ripping a roof off a house and snapping large pine trees. It was the first tornado on record in Connecticut to be associated with a tropical storm or hurricane. The storm left roughly 750,000 Connecticut residents without power, including 625,000 customers of Eversource Energy and 123,000 customers of the United Illuminating Company. The strongest winds from Isaias throughout its path were observed on Mount Washington, which recorded a gust of , the strongest wind gust ever recorded on the mountain in August.
This hypothesis appears supported by the type of animals in these rains: small and light, usually aquatic, and by the suggestion that the rain of animals is often preceded by a storm. However, the theory does not account for how all the animals involved in each individual incident would be from only one species, and not a group of similarly-sized animals from a single area. When Animals Rain From The Sky. Scribol. Further, the theory also does not account for a genuine tornadic waterspout not actually sucking objects up and carrying them rather than flinging objects out to the sides.
History records many instances of unusual objects falling with the rain – in 2000, in an example of raining animals, a small waterspout in the North Sea sucked up a school of fish a mile off shore, depositing them shortly afterwards on Great Yarmouth in the United Kingdom. Coloured rain is by no means rare, and can often be explained by the airborne transport of rain dust from desert or other dry regions which is washed down by rain. "Red Rains" have been frequently described in southern Europe, with increasing reports in recent years. Bücher, A and Lucas, C, 1984.
Opposite it is a bronze pine cone with 129 perforated scales, which stands 91 cm high (including its base); its date is controversial and ranges from the 3rd to the 10th century. Its base is clearly Ottonian and includes an inscription written in Leonine hexameter, which refers to the Tigris and Euphrates rivers of Mesopotamia. According to one view, the pine cone would originally have served as a waterspout on a fountain and would have been placed in the atrium of the Palatine chapel in Carolingian times. The upper level is characterised by an exceptionally fine brick western wall.
The Tweed enters turbulent waters where a whale and a giant squid are battling to the death, and Leela and Royston are both swept overboard. As the Tweed pulls ever further away, Leela is forced to kill the squid herself and to tie herself and Royston to the whale in order to survive. The whale is too seriously wounded to dive beneath the surface, and eventually dies, just as another storm approaches—this time with a waterspout. Leela and Royston must climb inside the whale's mouth in order to ride out the typhoon... The Tweed reaches Rapa Nui in December, although there appear to be no natives present to greet them.
The Great Lakes have been observed to help intensify storms, such as Hurricane Hazel in 1954, and the 2011 Goderich, Ontario tornado, which moved onshore as a tornadic waterspout. In 1996 a rare tropical or subtropical storm was observed forming in Lake Huron, dubbed the 1996 Lake Huron cyclone. Rather large severe thunderstorms covering wide areas are well known in the Great Lakes during mid-summer; these Mesoscale convective complexes or MCCs can cause damage to wide swaths of forest and shatter glass in city buildings. These storms mainly occur during the night, and the systems sometimes have small embedded tornadoes, but more often straight-line winds accompanied by intense lightning.
The Yolngu people of northern Australia say that the constellation of Orion, which they call Julpan (or Djulpan), is a canoe. They tell the story of three brothers who went fishing, and one of them ate a sawfish that was forbidden under their law. Seeing this, the Sun-woman, Walu, made a waterspout that carried him and his two brothers and their canoe up into the sky. The three suns that line in the constellation's centre, which form Orion's Belt in Western mythology, are the three brothers; the Orion Nebula above them is the forbidden fish; and the bright stars Betelgeuse and Rigel are the bow and stern of the canoe.
Several years later, when Jaffy is sixteen, he and Tim are dispatched by Jamrach to the Dutch East Indies, aboard a whaling ship. Under the charge of Jamrach's seasoned field agent, Dan Rymer, they have been sent to capture a "dragon" for the menagerie. The crew successfully capture the dragon, but on the return voyage it is set loose by Skip, one of the ship's mad crewmen, and after it bites a crew member they are forced to drive it overboard. Later the vessel is struck by a waterspout and sunk, leaving only a dozen men alive, stranded in the Pacific Ocean in two whaleboats.
Placing a coloured figure in the centre of the drama was revisited by Turner, with similar abolitionist overtones, in his The Slave Ship (1840). Winslow Homer, The Gulf Stream, 1899, 71.5 cm × 124.8 cm, Metropolitan Museum of Art The Gulf Stream (1899), by the American artist Winslow Homer (1836–1910), replicates the composition of The Raft of the Medusa with a damaged vessel, ominously surrounded by sharks and threatened by a waterspout. Like Géricault, Homer makes a black man the pivotal figure in the scene, though here he is the vessel's sole occupant. A ship in the distance mirrors the Argus from Géricault's painting.
Later Hodges travelled across Europe, including a visit to St. Petersburg in Russia in 1790. In 1793 Hodges published an illustrated book about his travels in India. Cook's Straits New Zealand with Waterspout, 1776 In December 1794 Hodges opened an exhibition of twenty-five of his own works at Orme's Gallery, 14 Old Bond Street, London that included two large paintings called The Effects of Peace and The Effects of War. In late January, 1795, with Britain engaged in the War of the First Coalition against Revolutionary France and feelings running high, the exhibition was visited by Prince Frederick, Duke of York and Albany, the second son of King George III.

In 2006, SeaWorld Orlando added three new family rides for children to Shamu’s Happy Harbor, the Shamu Express, a killer whale-themed roller coaster; Jazzy Jellies, a jellyfish-themed samba tower ride; and Swishy Fishies, a waterspout-themed teacup ride as well as four stories of nets and tunnels, a huge sand box, and a playful pirate ship. In the following year, the authority announced plans to add a sea-based carousel and two other family rides in the Shamu's Happy Harbour and expanded the area to four acres. and the carousel was opened to the public in summer. It was manufactured by Chance Rides, an American-based roller coaster and amusement ride manufacturing company.
Thinking quickly, the special effects man on the other side of the wall saw the motorbike hurtling towards him and set off the accompanying explosion, creating a realistic waterspout. Lucky to escape with only facial bruises and a dislocated collarbone, as he struggled to his feet, Buckle apologised for having messed up, but the shot "was in the can". During the promotional junkets accompanying the film in 1965, a number of the vintage aircraft and film replicas used in the production were flown in both the United Kingdom and the United States. The pilots who had been part of the aerial team readily agreed to accompany the promotional tour to have a chance to fly these aircraft again.
Bill, Jo, and Melissa have a dangerous encounter with twin waterspout tornadoes on a enclosed road and they're spun round, which leaves Melissa shaken. The rest of the team, however, is ecstatic about the encounter and convince Jo to let them go visit Jo's Aunt Meg in the nearby town of Wakita for food and rest. While there, the team informs Melissa about Jo's backstory, explaining that Jo has since become obsessed with ensuring nobody else suffers the same fate as her father. Jo, realizing she is falling in love with Bill again, isolates herself from the rest of the group and is confronted by Aunt Meg, who tells her that no matter what happens, they will always end up together.
On July 27, a third airing of Sharknado got 2.1 million viewers, continuing the increase in popularity of the film and setting a record for most watched original film encore in Syfy history. Sharknado was projected to increase revenue for The Asylum from $5 million in 2009 to $19 million in 2013. A representative of the National Weather Service jokingly recommended what to do in case of a sharknado, saying: "As with any waterspout or tornado, the best advice is to be in an interior part of the lowest floor of a sturdy building – and not outside, whether sharks are raining down or not." Organizations such as the Red Cross of Oklahoma City also used the film as an opportunity to pass on storm safety information while others incorporated it into their own advertising.
Herman Hirsch, a Jewish male from Chicago on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, kept an account of President Arthurs maiden voyage. On Friday, March 13, one day into the voyage, Hirsch reported that the torah was dedicated and a procession to songs and music accompanied a march over all parts of the ship. Afterwards, Rabbi Aaron Ashinsky of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, officiated at a service held in a chapel provided for the passengers. Newspapers published radio dispatches emanating from President Arthur throughout her maiden voyage, thanks to a powerful new radio set installed aboard the liner. On March 14 the liner was able to avoid the worst of a gale that slowed of the United States Lines, and on March 26 President Arthur was able to avoid a waterspout east of Gibraltar.
Waterspout filmed off Anglesey, Wales, on 15 November 2010 by an RAF Search and Rescue crew Waterspouts exist on a microscale, where their environment is less than two kilometers in width. The cloud from which they develop can be as innocuous as a moderate cumulus, or as great as a supercell. While some waterspouts are strong and tornadic in nature, most are much weaker and caused by different atmospheric dynamics. They normally develop in moisture-laden environments as their parent clouds are in the process of development, and it is theorized they spin as they move up the surface boundary from the horizontal shear near the surface, and then stretch upwards to the cloud once the low level shear vortex aligns with a developing cumulus cloud or thunderstorm.
He exhibited many pictures at the Royal Academy, the British Institution, and the Society of British Artists, and obtained a great reputation in his particular field. In 1825 he was elected a member of the Society of British Artists, and in 1828 was appointed marine painter to H.R.H. the Duke of Clarence, Lord High Admiral of England and future King of England, William IV. Cartwright died at his apartments at Charing Cross, London on 16 January 1829, aged about forty. Among his main works were: The Burning of L'Orient at the Battle of the Nile, The Battle of Algiers, The Battle of Trafalgar, The Port of Venice at Carnival Time, HMS Greyhound and HMS Harrier engaging a Dutch Squadron in the Java Seas, Frigates becalmed in the Ionian Channel and A Waterspout off the Coast of Albania.
It was said that Mpu Bharada was the one that conduct the partition; with his extraordinary skill he flew and pouring water from a jar that the water traces magically transformed into a river marking the boundary of the two new kingdoms. Accidentally he stuck on a kamal (tamarind) tree, feeling upset he cursed the kamal tree to be forever short, thus become the name of the village where this event took place; kamal pandak ("the short tamarind tree"). Airlanga died in 1049, and his ashes were buried in Belahan tirtha (sacred bathing pool), on eastern slopes of Mount Penanggungan, where in one of waterspout statues he was portrayed as Vishnu riding Garuda, flanked by statues of two goddesses; Shri and Lakshmi portrayed the two queen consorts of Airlangga.
She can sustain underwater speeds approaching 51 knots (roughly 59 mph) for several hours and is capable of massive acceleration by shedding the outer layer of her skin to expose a nearly frictionless inner skin layer, allowing her to briefly reach speeds in the range.Alpha Flight #1–2 She has further demonstrated some ability to control water — in combination with her massive underwater speed, she was able to raise and ride the crest of a huge waterspout, letting her travel from an ocean shore up to three miles inland. After such feats, her outer skin layer can quickly regenerate to normal. Her skin also secretes an oil which can cause extreme constriction of the pupils — with one slap, she was able to temporarily blind the Sub-Mariner,Alpha Flight #15 himself superhumanly adapted to underwater existence.
In September 1998, a tornado hit Lynbrook; in August 1999, an F-2 tornado hit parts of Mattituck, in August 2005, a tornado hit Glen Cove; one year later in August 2006, a small tornado hit Massapequa in Nassau County, and parts of Amityville, located in Suffolk County. On July 18, 2007, an F-1 tornado hit Islip Terrace and on September 27, 2006, a waterspout was seen over Long Island Sound near Port Jefferson. In the wintertime, temperatures are sometimes warmer than areas further inland in Nassau County but Suffolk County will usually get at least one day where the temperature is below 0 °F (-18 °C) for low temperatures (especially in the night and early morning hours), In late July 2008 off the coast of Quogue on Dune Road, a water spout formed in the ocean; the related severe thunderstorms were the worst reported in years.

Issun, Amaterasu's partner in the first game, is unavailable to help Chibiterasu as he is busy with his duties as the Celestial Envoy, and thus Chibiterasu is tasked to find other partners to help rid the world of evil. One of the partners that accompanies Chibiterasu is the adopted son of Susano and Kushi, two characters from Ōkami. Other partners include: , a young mermaid that is able to swim about in underwater stages and can provide a water source for Waterspout; , a spirit medium who helps Chibiterasu see ethereal elements; , a flute-playing young boy that bears some traits similar to Waka from Ōkami; and , an overweight boy carrying fire who can walk through ice spikes and can provide a fire source for the Inferno technique. Chibiterasu and his various partners initially track down an evil summoner named that gave rise to the curses across the lands.
The album contains tracks from the beginning of his solo career in 1970 up to (on editions outside the United States) the newly recorded "Once Upon a Long Ago". The American version has a different track listing, reflecting the popularity of particular songs there. Originally the album was to include the unreleased London Town track "Waterspout"; there are LP slicks that feature it as the opening track on side two, as well as a cartoon icon, but the song was omitted at the last minute. Editions outside the United States have 20 tracks on the vinyl version and 17 on CD; the CD omits "Maybe I'm Amazed", "With A Little Luck" and "Goodnight Tonight". The American edition has 17 tracks on both vinyl and CD, and omits "Pipes of Peace", "Maybe I'm Amazed", "Once Upon A Long Ago", "We All Stand Together", and "Mull Of Kintyre", but adds "Junior’s Farm" and "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey".
The biography purports that the Minnie A. Caine belonged to Lowell's father and made most of her voyages in the South Pacific. The story is a mix of strange episodes and frightening experiences that included observing a dance of virgins on Atafu, Lowell's playing strip poker with the crew, Lowell's father dissipating a waterspout with rifle shots, near death experience when Lowell and all the crew was stricken with scurvy, and finally, the ship's conflagration and sinking in Australia followed by Lowell's swim to the safety of a lighthouse. The book received multiple positive reviews from different sources, including The Washington Post, Time, Life, Los Angeles Times, etc. Moreover, in the era when book clubs functioned as the most important distribution channel for printed books, in March 1929, The Cradle of the Deep was voted the book of the month by the jury of the highly influential Book of the Month Club.
Over in the country, Clem comes across a pond (where he dips in his toe) and, despite being unable to see through the eggshell, leaps across the pond, thanks to a couple of stones and a turtle unexpectedly surfacing from underneath the water (though he wonders where the egg came from afterward). Next, Clem comes across a farm and finds a cow fast asleep, deducing the cow is probably warm enough for him to continue hatching, but the cow uses her tail like a swatter to try to hit Clem. When that doesn't work, she uses her tail to set Clem up like a golfball and (turning the tail into a golf club) hits Clem to a barn where he goes down the waterspout and hits the foot of a horse. As Clem wishes aloud for something to break open the shell, he, at the same time, narrowly avoids getting stomped on by the horse as the horse begins walking.
Cikovsky, 369-370 For art historian Nicolai Cikovsky, Jr., The Gulf Stream is more richly informed by these artistic predecessors than by Homer's direct experiences at sea, with the circling sharks derived from the tortured souls of The Barque of Dante, the dramatic sea and sky inspired by The Slave Ship, and the "mode of pictorial utterance" akin to The Voyage of Life. Elements in the painting have been interpreted as possessing funereal references: in addition to the black cross in the boat's bow, the open hatch (representing a tomb), ropes (for lowering the body), broken mast and torn sail (shroud) have been cited for symbolic meanings.Cikovsky, 383 By contrast, the boat in Homer's painting Breezing Up (A Fair Wind) of 1876 featured an anchor in its bow, symbolic of hope. The sailor in The Gulf Stream ignores these allusions, as he pays no heed to the sharks, waterspout, nor the ship in the distance, and inverts the optimism of the romantic masterpiece Raft of the Medusa painted earlier in the century by Théodore Géricault.

Indian Navy frigate INS Tabar firing an RBU rocket. The RBU-6000 Smerch-2 (Реактивно- Бомбовая Установка, Reaktivno-Bombovaja Ustanovka; reaction engine-bomb installation & Смерч; waterspout) is a 213 mm caliber Soviet anti-submarine rocket launcher. It is similar in principle to the Royal Navy Hedgehog system used during the Second World War. The system entered service in 1960-61 and is fitted to a wide range of Russian surface vessels. It consists of a horseshoe shaped arrangement of twelve launch barrels, that are remotely directed by the Burya fire control system (that can also control the shorter ranged RBU-1000). It fires RGB-60 unguided depth charges. The rockets are normally fired in salvos of 1, 2, 4, 8 or 12 rounds.
